We cannot recommend David highly enough. We have worked with him several times, on both major and minor projects.  Among the projects, David has installed 2 faucets for us, repaired a door, drilled holes to run wiring, and fixed a leak/repaired the aftermath from a bathtub that dripped through to the dining room ceiling. David is the only person I trust with my home and the first person I reach out  to when we need work done. David always does quality work and ensures the project is like new before leaving.

Burst pipe happened near midnight the night before and by 9am David was onsite to assess our options. Got us a temporary fix so we could keep water through the house then first thing the next morning he was onsite with supplies. Him and his team rerouted a pipe away from the exterior brick to prevent another freeze issue down the road. Work completed this morning and you can't even tell that anything ever happened. Great work and a seamless process.

We had a bathroom nightmare because our old handyman didn't do a good job. We've used David and his team in the past and had them come take a look.  His guys are thorough and good and he does his best to lay out options and be transparent.  He also works with your needs to let you decide the best way forward.  Our new bathroom after David's work is amazing and we couldn't be happier.

I didn't actually use the services of this company, so I cannot comment on the quality of their work. However, the communication is terrible. I've been in contact with David via email and telephone for weeks and he cannot find the time (after repeated requests) to look at his calendar and schedule a time to stop by for an estimate, even after I spent significant time taking and sending photos with detailed descriptions of the work needed. I wish I hadn't wasted my time and do not recommend this company. If you don't have availability, say so from the get-go rather than wasting people's time. It's unprofessional and shows a great degree of disorganization.

I needed some handyman work done in my condo. Had heard about David through a friend and decided to give him a call. Very responsive and courteous on the phone. Gave me a quote for the work done. Then, while here, I showed him some shelves that needed rebuilding and he figured out how to fix them, redo my baseboard, and more! He and his team did an amazing job both with the handyman work and the reconstruction of my kitchen. Couldn't recommend more!

Very quick and knowledgeable. It took less than an hour to get the repair completed. He also accepted PayPal which was convenient.

David was awesome -- fixed three toilets, caulked a shower, cleared a drain, sealed a leaky faucet, and replaced another faucet. Explained everything he was going to do, priced it all ahead of time (not cheap by any means, but you pay for quality I guess), and then did it and everything looks good. And sound good too -- the toilet that had been running for months is not anymore.

Extreme arrogance on phone. You have to remember you are a customer service. Did not want to listen to my problem which I described. I don't feel he can be trusted. Moving on.

My shower had a recurring, very mysterious leak. Three other plumbers had tried to identify the problem, but it was David and Juan who were able to figure it out! Not only did they identify the issue but they were also incredibly kind, timely, respectful, and communicative. Overall, (given the leak) a great and pleasant experience!

I asked David to help me replace an existing light with a ceiling fan. Mind you, I am a DIY-kinda gal and when he first quoted me $250/hr I was very skeptical....I looked on Taskrabbit and other sites to see if someone would be cheaper. It turns out that installing a ceiling fan in our 90 year old house wasn't very straightforward - there was a double ceiling, existing light was not actually attached to a beam, etc. David ended up having to make a large hole in the ceiling and other modifications to install the fan safely and properly. They also plastered/sanded/painted the ceiling and it looks great, like new! He was very professional and punctual. He & his workers were respectful of my home and cleaned up after themselves.

You can probably find a college student to help you with simple tasks for lesser quality & price. David may seem expensive, but you will be happy with his work, especially for more complicated work on older homes.

David did an amazing job on my condo last week!  The floors in my unit needed to be completely replaced, the drywall needed to be repaired, the whole place needed to be repainted, and the Murphy Bed needed to be moved and reassembled.  I also needed two locks replaced.  David took care of everything, and he did ahead of the deadline we had discussed.  The best thing about working with David is that you can trust him.  He gives you honest and reasonable rates for his work, is transparent about the timing of a project, and communicates clearly.   If you live in the DC area and are looking for a handyman/contractor who you can rely on, David is your man!

David and his colleague did a great job repairing a door in a rental unit that wasn't closing and needed to be planed down.  They were on-time, courteous, and met the deadline for completing the work.  Not cheap, but definitely got the job done.

I've used Capitol Handyman several times from smaller fixes to larger projects, and they have been really great to work with! David and his team have always been quick to respond, able to fit my projects into their schedule quickly, and do a great job with the work. Like others, I also had a very good experience. I had three different projects, and David and another handyman from their company got them done in short order. They pointed out issues that I hadn't thought of and came up with good solutions. It was easy to communicate with them before and during, and the pricing was fair and transparent. Great service!

I would highly recommend Capitol Handyman for their highly responsive team and follow through. We had a faucet leak in our kitchen, and I reached out for an emergency repair. I got a response within minutes and they were getting ready to send David out the same day. We ended up using a friend who was able to come in and take care of the issue, but I know who to call next time I need immediate and efficient service on plumbing repairs! A sense of urgency in times of stress is highly appreciated.

David is very responsive and knowledgeable.  He helped me handle some minor plumbing issues, and gave me some advice on how to handle some issues with my sink.  He's the first that I'll call if I need something done!

Very timely response and price was best that I received.  Had them install a garbage disposal.  Showed up on time and very neat and efficient. Will definitely use him again if something comes up.  (only wish he had told me he charges 3% on credit card or paypal transactions...I could have had cash)...

I had a leak from the bottom of my garbage disposal and reached out to David about a repair or replacement.  He was very responsive to me over Yelp and gave me a four hour window for just a couple of days later.  He arrived on time, assessed the situation, and made a recommendation quickly.  In the end I think the service was worth the price.

My recommendation to others would be to look at purchasing a garbage disposal in advance and asking if David can install it - it cost ~$80 more from David than from Amazon.  I am not sure what local hardware stores charge.  The convenience of having this taken care of today was worth the price to me, though - no two trips for David, no two days out of the office for me.  They came and had all of the tools and parts required to handle it today.

My only gripe is that David does not accept personal checks and that is not clear to me from his Yelp page.  He prefers cash or credit card which was difficult for me as a landlord without a business credit card - it may not be as big of a deal to others.

Overall I would recommend others reach out to David for plumbing issues.  I will most likely return to him as well.

I called the night before for a garbage disposal issue that I had underneath my sink. I scheduled an appointment for the next day, which I was grateful for because of the short turnaround. They called 30 minutes beforehand letting me know that they were arriving, and then again when they had arrived. They came in, explained the contract/prices, and fixed the issue with no problem. They kept the area clean and threw out the old dispenser on the way out as well. Clean, quick, and professional. Their prices are reasonable and would do business with them again.

I am disappointed to have to write this review, especially when this business has such good reviews otherwise.  I had an awful experience with Capitol Handyman and would not recommend using them.  I hired Capitol Handyman to fix my shower knob because it had fallen off.  My shower was otherwise working fine and had solid water pressure.

They replaced the knob ($250 installation, I bought the part myself for $100) and told me that I needed to add sealant to showers in my house. I paid them $290 to put sealant on two showers and a bathtub.  I thought it was very steep, but the plumbers seemed ok so I went along. After they installed the knob, David called me to the bathroom to check the water pressure.  Since they just put in sealant, he said he couldn't turn on the full shower head and just showed me the water coming from a second shower head into a bucket.  I couldn't tell if it was how it was before, but it looked alright and I trusted them (I also didn't see how it would be broken now), so let them go on their way.  24 hours later, I tried the shower and it was completely broken.  Almost no water came out of the main shower head.  I was surprised since it worked perfectly fine before Capitol Handyman came over.

I asked them to come back to take a look.  When they did, David did nothing to try to fix it.  David started yelling at me to the point where my roommate came out of his room to make sure I was ok.  I had not raised my voice at all at David and did not during the course of our conversation.  He said that he thought the pressure was bad after they fixed it, which is why he asked me in the first place.  It seemed like he was covering his tracks.  It felt like he knew something went wrong during his installation and he didn't want to admit it.  Instead of trying to fix anything or make recommendations on what to do, he just blamed me for not catching the bad water pressure in the first place.  I was stunned. I went from a shower with a broken handle to a broken shower.  

Perhaps we could have communicated and figured out a way to fix the problem.  But I am not in the business of paying hundreds of dollars to have someone come into my home and yell at me, especially when I did nothing wrong.  Instead, I paid Capitol Handyman almost $600 to make a problem worse.

I had a very good experience: he was very responsive to messages, great about communicating when he could come to the house, very efficient, competitively priced, and willing to honor his pricing even when part of the job unexpectedly turned out to be more difficult than we thought.

I had a great experience. He got the job done quickly and effectively. I will definitely hire them again!

We used Capitol Handyman for a variety of projects: painting on the first and second floors of our home, installation of pendant lights, wall repair and more. Moshe and his team did impeccable work and their attention to detail was A+. Most importantly, they were extremely communicative and constantly kept in touch. Capitol Handyman came out for a quote and completed all the work within a week, the same week we initiated the request.

Completed a project to install a ceiling fan in a location that had no fan box or electricity. Required drywall modification and repair, running electricity and installing an outlet as well as the fan. The result was excellent and I'm thrilled to have our new fan.

Also completed two plumbing repair projects to replace a cracked PVC valve and a repair a leaking outdoor spigot.

Will contact again for future projects.

I called David very last minute to help repair a hot water valve. We had a narrow window, and without making it work I would have had to push back a long awaited washer/dryer installation. I was very anxious about getting this all done while I was also busy at work and dealing with the washer/dryer delivery guys. David was friendly, informative, and despite being very busy came at eight in the morning to do the repair. He showed up right on time, and was communicative throughout the process. I can't say enough good things about David and his team.  I brought them in to help alleviate the smell of an old furnace in our recently re-developed home. They were able to alleviate most of the smell, and put the wall back together better insulated and better looking than it was before.  I pushed David to look at another section of the wall -- which he had every financial reason to do -- but he cautioned against it.  I have no trouble believing David had our best interests in mind and was never looking for easy money at our expense. That means a lot for a guy with little home repair experience:  you can trust David's advice.

If you're looking to purchase a newly re-developed home in and around the district, keep David's number handy.  You're gonna to need it.

David did excellent and very fast drywall work at our home. He took the time to carefully match paints and make our walls look brand new. He was very communicative and easy to work with. We will definitely call him again in the future.  Highly recommend him and his work!

Apparently I never learned not to put stuff down the garbage disposal (or maybe I still don't believe that you can't)....but after some choice words from my husband and some disappointing looks from David after he REPAIRED my sink, I'm a new woman that will forever throw leftover scraps in the trash! A weekend without a working sink is torture. I was so grateful David fit our downtown condo into his busy schedule - within one day of contact. He was easy to work with, reasonably cost, and offered quick service. I plan to use him for other handyman services in the future!

David and his colleague helped me with some odd jobs around the house - caulking in bathrooms, hanging a new ceiling/fan, new grout for tiles in a closet.  He came the same week and changed a battery in a beeping smoke detector and looked at my non-working garbage disposal.  He saved me the money of a new garbage disposal by cranking the old one and getting it working again!  The best thing about David is that most of the work had to be performed while I was not home.  It is priceless to find honest and reliable services today!  I highly recommend and will use his services again.  I've been looking for a reliable Handyman for years.  You will not be disappointed!

They came over the day after I called and did the job quickly and cleanly. So happy to finally have a new faucet! I'm very pleased with their work.

Scheduling was easy (which meant a lot to me considering how many handyman/ contractor types never bother to get back to you!) and David contacted me right away when I asked for a quote. We were able to make an appointment quickly, and he showed up right on time. They were able to fix my disposal (I had gotten a substantial piece of metal stuck in the blades which needed to be pried out by someone more skilled than myself.)

This is was my first time using Capitol Handyman's services. I must say I am very impressed. They answered my message swiftly and made scheduling simple. They also showed up on time, which  I greatly appreciate as I do have a very busy schedule. David was very amicable and upfront about the costs and all the work that he would be doing. Contacted David to repair the utility room wall after a small fire. He gave a very reasonable price and did the work (drywall replacement, paint & patch) in one day. I have a washer dryer coming this weekend and he changed his schedule and took care of the wall. He was very proffesional, came to the house early and was out before rush hour. I'm having him come back to do more work. Wife was very pleased, enough said!

I contacted David via email and received a response  in less than 24 hours. He showed up on-time for my Monday morning appointment and quickly replaced my garbage disposal.

He was professional, honest, and courteous and I wouldn't hesitate to use him again.

A+. David was quick coming over and repaired my bathroom sink and several interior door hinges. The pricing was reasonable, and when he needed to get a part he quickly got one and charged me $6 for it, came back and completed the job. A+!

I needed my garbage disposal replaced fairly quickly as it was leaking and making a mess. David came out the next day I was available and replaced it in less than an hour at a very reasonable rate. He cleaned up everything and installed a better disposal. He also gave me tips on how to make the new disposal last longer. It's really hard to get a good plumber in the area that charges reasonable rates and I am very happy with this experience. Will definitely be using him again if I need a plumber.

I called David ten minutes before closing yesterday about a plumbing issue, and he put me down for the first thing this morning, and texted me when he was on his way. He replaced my garbage disposal and fixed two leaks in two hours. He was honest about some complications that could have made the repairs more expensive, but he was able to save me that money at the end! I am very happy with their service, and will definitely call them again if anything in the house needs fixing!

I called the morning of to help unclog a utility sink in the basement. I asked around for a couple quotes and they were the only ones that could come day-of with a reasonable price. He came within an hour to assess the situation and confirm the quoted price. Returned a couple hours later, and the issue was resolved within an hour. They were prompt, clean, and professional! Will definitely use again if we have any other issues with our plumbing.

David was great and would definitely hire again for other services. We needed our faucet changed and he was fast to respond, courteous and professional. We were able to make an appointment quickly and he was efficient once he came.

David came to review three small jobs at our condo. After evaluation, he found that he could not effect immediate repairs on any of them, suggested how I should proceed, and refused payment for his time and trouble! I have every intention of following his recommendations and calling him back in to complete repairs. Couldn't possibly ask for better customer service, he obviously has earned the positive ratings he receives on Yelp!

David was an absolute delight to work with.  Very patient and knowledgeable about him job, as you know remodeling is a tough process.  He took care of our needs A-Z.   A+++ for a great job done.

David and his partner came to my apartment today to install a new deadbolt and to replace my garbage disposal, and they did phenomenal work. It's hard to find a reliable handyman who I'd want to call back for additional work, but I look forward to calling them in the future when I need more fix it work around my house.

To start, David gave me an up front quote and provided a three hour window for their arrival. They ended up showing up early, which was great as they were done before lunch (I was expecting them to show up towards the end of the window they stated like most service companies do, and to have to be at home all day). In terms of the quote, they were more than fair. They ended up having to do more work than I had originally asked for, and while they ended up charging me a bit more than we had originally discussed, the price was more than fair given the additional scope of work.

The garbage disposal: I thought I had done the correct research and purchased an appropriate replacement for my garbage disposal. The one I had chosen had a power cord with a plug, and I thought it was removable (my existing disposal was hard wired in). Turns out the power cord was permanently attached to the disposal, and that I needed to install an outlet under the sink to plug it into. When David walked me through this, I was disappointed because I figured we would have to reschedule. But they were prepared! After I agreed to the additional installation work, David and his partner walked to their truck and walked back with all of the materials needed to install the new outlet (new outlet, gangbox, etc.). After completing the installation, they tested the garbage disposal and gave me some tips on how to best maintain it going forward.

The deadbolt: I was originally planning to replace my existing deadbolt, but I live in a condo building, and due to the way the original locks were installed, they couldn't be replaced. David and his partner recognized this immediately when they saw my door, explained the problem, and gave me an alternate solution. Truth be told, I had requested quotes from several locksmiths before going with Capitol Handyman, and while one of them mentioned that my lock couldn't be replaced, they weren't able to explain to me why nor did they offer an alternative, so I assumed they just didn't have the experience needed to complete the job. David was patient in his explanation and was very clear about what he could and couldn't do. I watched David and his partner install the new lock, which required cutting through a metal door, and it was obvious that they knew what they were doing. The new lock looks great!

To close out the job, they swept up all of the metal filings and trash that accumulated during their work. I ended up giving them a tip on top of the quoted amount, and they tried to give the tip back!

It's hard to find a handymen who are honest, high quality, and reasonably priced. But I can confidently say that Capitol Handyman checks all the boxes!

Tried to charge me 5,000 to install 2 doors and fix one...just for labor. Laughable lost a lot of potential business.

I called David to help my grandmother, and he no doubt was there within 2 hours which is great. What remains a mystery to me is though why he charged her $550 for less than 1 hr worth of work, for freeing up a clogged bathroom sink drain and getting a garbage disposal back into service. I would recommend him only if you have some excess cash you want to get rid of.

I had some drywall repair work done by David and crew and it looks great! Their work is meticulous, clean, and great quality. I felt I got a fair price for the detail of work done. They are very dedicated to their craftsmanship and it shows. They will be the first to call for any future projects.

David is quick, responsive, friendly, and professional.  We had a leak in our kitchen ceiling, and after doing a thorough test, made an appointment to come back to open the ceiling to fix the leak.  He and his assistant got the ceiling open and found the problem quickly -- unfortunately it ended up being a very expensive problem that I needed to consult with the owner about before authorizing any repairs.  I was impressed that he took the time to explain what options we had available and also that he told me what I needed to make sure I asked for if I decided to go with a different contractor -- that struck me as very honest and helpful.  He really seems like a good guy who cares about his work.  I'll definitely keep him in mind for future house issues.

David quickly assessed what the issue was with my sink, made the proper replacement of parts, and repaired additional parts of the sink free of charge. Quick, effective, and fairly priced.

Very prompt and courteous.  Did not waste time, and did a good job handling a multitude of repairs. Made recommendations on replacing versus repair, instead of charging for repairs that would not last. David was able to get out to give me an estimate within 24 hours of submitting my request. I had significant plaster damage and needed several rooms patched and repainted. His team was able to complete the job in just a few days despite some unexpected surprises. Their work looks great, you wouldn't even know the ceiling in the master bedroom had been on the verge of collapse a few days ago. They did an excellent job, and I will definitely be using Capitol Handyman in the future.

Posted for my Husband: From the initial phone call to the handshake on the walk-away, I don't think this could have gone any smoother.  I'm an average handy guy, but I also know my limitations.  From the estimated cost based on emailed photos of the job to the pre-arrival, day of the job phone call, these guys literally nailed it! While their obvious knowledge and skill with the particulars of the job require mention, their strongest quality was intangible.  This was one of those jobs that could have easily gone wrong requiring the more expensive of the possible fixes.  These guys got in there and knocked it out at the low end of the estimate.  They score high on the not trying to gouge anybody scale. No Nonsense, Straight-shooting Professionals.  No reservations whatsoever about recommending them! Oh yeah, did I mention baby and pet friendly?!?

David and his team did an outstanding job repairing an enormous hole in my wall, which included rebuilding a light switch box and re-painting the area to match the rest of the room.  He also did some light work in the bathroom.  He was extremely responsive upon initial contact, and stuck to his original quote after viewing photos of the damage.   I am so pleased and will certainly call upon him again!

Capitol Handyman just completed some work on my property - installing a new ceiling fixture in the living room, replacing the kitchen floor, and re-caulking.  From the first message I sent requesting a quote, I've been impressed with David and his company, and I'm very happy with the final results.  Their pricing is very fair, their work is high quality, and they are consistently punctual and professional.   I will definitely hire them again for future projects - highly recommended!

David was quick and true to his word from the start.  He was easy to work with and did a good job in diagnosing and then addressing our toilet problem which included him picking up a new one from Home Depot and returning to the house to install it.  His cost was very fair.  I would use him again and recommend him highly.

David and the crew at Capitol Handyman were great. They set up an appointment right away for the next morning for my broken garbage disposal. They came right when they said they would, in a one-hour window of time. They were fast, professional, and up front about the costs, which were reasonable. I would definitely recommend them!

This strikes me as a wonderful company. This was my first time using Capitol Handyman. Yet this was the second company I called for help in finding and addressing the source of a possible shower leak. And, boy, am I grateful I called Capitol! So, the owner, Dave, provided excellent service both during the quotation and work process. He was on time, respectful, clear on pricing, professional, and did quality work. I really appreciated how he thought about the problem and identified carefully several possible sources based on his observations. I think he solved it! We agreed on a plan so he (and a colleague) used skill, knowledge along with his insights and forethought to attack the situation. I was so grateful. Bathrooms were clean after his work and the work was well done. Dave was also patient and was willing to work around cats, people, and cleaning lady. I will call them again. In fact, I started making a list before they left!

These guys were great.  I got a quick response on my quote, and they were extremely responsive to my emails beforehand asking questions.  They arrived on time, and they called me before to let me know they were arriving -- just as I requested.  They asked for an overview of everything I wanted done before they got started, so we did a whole walk through on the day's tasks, and we signed an agreement about the work that was being done and the rate.  I had some fairly complicating things I wanted done, and they took their time and did a very professional job on each item.  They took the time to figure out the best way to perform certain tasks so that the end result would look really good.  Their tools were all very organized, they had everything they needed to do the work, and they cleaned up after themselves which I really appreciated.  They worked quickly and they were friendly to work with.  I would definitely hire Capitol Handyman again when I need tasks done around the house that I can't handle.   Thanks guys!
