We called Drain Genius to snake our main line. I was pleased when I first spoke to Dwight on the phone. I explained our issue and he explained what he thought would work best for us. Dwight quoted me $40 for toilet removal, $97 for snaking the main line through our downstairs toilet, and $75 for snaking an additional line for our kitchen & laundry. We scheduled an appointment for a Thurs. evening so my husband could be home at the time. Unfortunately, the evening of our appointment, we waited & waited for someone to show up and a little over a half hour after our scheduled appointment time, we called wondering what had happened. Dwight told us that the original tech that was supposed to come out got held up, but they could still come by in a couple of hours. We explained that we had plans that night & were planning on leaving soon, so later that night wouldn't work. We rescheduled for the next morning (when my husband had to be at work). The tech showed up & was friendly at first. I explained what was happening and he got to work. I was expecting him to do the things that Dwight & I had discussed over the phone, but that didn't happen. The tech didn't explain to me what he was doing or what it would cost before he started working. He started in our upstairs bathtub (which was never a problem) and used a plastic hair catcher on the drain. We have one of these things and use it when the drain gets clogged, but it wasn't an issue that we wanted them to work on. After he was done upstairs, he went in under our kitchen sink with a snake. We've lived in our home for about 5 years & have had a few different companies come out to work on the plumbing - every other company has gone through our pipes in the laundry room to unclog the drain, because that's where it all builds up. I mentioned this to the technician, but he tried anyway. I cleared all of the items from below our sink in the kitchen & he started using the snake. To his surprise, he was unable to clear the drain from there - like I had already mentioned. He then went downstairs into our laundry room in the basement. He moved the washer and dryer to get to our pipes. He did not come prepared, because he had asked me to use our tools to disconnect the pipes. He snaked the pipe & it cleared. He then used our tools again to reconnect the pipes, but did not move the washer or dryer back to their original place & left a nasty black sludge on the walls and counters in our basement near the pipes. While he was downstairs in our basement, he pointed to the heat exhaust pipe that goes from our furnace to the roof of the house and mentioned to me that the pipe was our plumbing pipes. I knew that couldn't be right, so I said, Doesn't that go into the furnace? and he answered, How do you think you get hot water? Our hot water heater is also downstairs in our basement, next to our furnace. When he was done with the drain in the basement, he put the snake on our carpet, which left a wet spot for several hours. The tech then went into our downstairs bathroom & used an auger on our toilet - this was something else that we didn't ask for. I had mentioned getting the toilet removed to snake the main line, but that was never done. He packed up his equipment and came back inside to get paid. I expected to pay the $212 I was quoted, but asked about the price because the toilet was never removed and the main line was never snaked. He started arguing with me and called Dwight to have him argue with me over the phone too. I ended up paying $172 cash ($97 for the kitchen/laundry line and $75 for the upstairs shower line-which I never asked for). After he left, I looked around and realized that he left a huge mess - a scratch in the paint on my kitchen cabinets, black sludge on the cabinets and counter tops, and to top it off, the kitchen line he used the snake on (again, which I didn't want him doing) was now leaking! My husband called Dwight that night and explained that we were unhappy with the service we got and the things we wanted done, didn't even get done! Dwight said he would call back to schedule to send someone out to finish the job at no cost. We were happy with that, so we waited for about 2 weeks for a phone call, but never got one. We called Dwight back and he said that all of his techs own their own equipment and that the only one with working equipment was the same one that came out previously. We declined because we were hoping they'd send someone with a little more knowledge about plumbing. Dwight then offered to refund our money, which we accepted, so we could quickly have another company come out and finish the job we wanted done. Dwight said he'd be sending out a check within a week. We waited about 3 more weeks without receiving our refund and called Dwight again. He said he would look into for us and if we didn't get it by that Friday, to let him know. Long story short, we never got our refund and now Dwight won't return our phone call.
