Why is it that whenever you call a mechanic, contractor, car salesman, electrician, you get this nervous will I get ripped off? feeling at the pit of your stomach?
Granted there are some who are honest and really want to help you than help themselves to your wallet. Unfortunately, these guys aren't one of them.
First, I called the place and tell them that we have a partial outage. Whenever we tried to turn on the circuit breaker, sparks would fly. We called another electrician but they couldn't find the problem. So we call Wells Electrical and see if maybe they could find the problem. They tell me they'll check it out in the morning and see what's wrong, then they can schedule a time to come out and fix it. They send out Tom and he comes, flips on the circuit breaker and everything is working. He takes off our electrical panel just to double check and sticks a power checker into a few (5 at most!) of the electrical outlets and everything looks fine. We're all puzzled, have a laugh about it and he goes off his merry way. This whole thing takes about TWENTY MINUTES!
The next day, I get an invoice asking me to pay $157.50!! Yes, that's $157.50 for twenty minutes! They labeled it as troubleshooting. I call them and politely asked them to please explain this invoice, there must be a mistake, he was only here for 20 minutes and nothing was wrong. That's where they pull the whole you need a filter, buy the extended warranty routine. Evidently, unbeknownst to me, they have a 1.5 hour minimum charge. I tell them, I was never told of such a thing over the phone or in person ...I was only told they were going to come check out what the problem was then schedule a time for them to come back and fix it. Their reply was... Well, you should have asked! Then they try to make it better by saying...we'll just charge you one hour which will be only $105 and that's being very generous of us!
WHAT?!? The previous electrician I called spent 1.5 hours looking for the problem, did MUCH more than this Tom guy, AND DIDN'T CHARGE ME ANYTHING!
I do NOT recommend them. I thought the way they handled my call was very unprofessional (I quote...Either pay the invoice or never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, call this number again!) and not telling customers about their $157.50 minimum charge but expecting them to know about it, just tarnishes those who try to build a good reputation in the service industry.
