Greer Family Plumbing is just what their name says: FAMILY. In my recent experience, another plumber that I usually use was going on vacation, so he recommended Greer. Both Michelle and Terry treated me like family. Professional, courteous, great communication, on-time, and skillful. Great value for the level of service and customer attention.

What a great business.

I have an older home, and recently we noticed a leak coming from underneath the toilet, so I consulted Yelp and called A1 Greer Family Plumbing.

Michelle, the owner, was wonderful. When I explained what was happening, she moved mountains to make sure we had someone at our place in, not a few hours...but within 20 minutes! The two men who arrived to fix the problem were fantastic. They worked for hours on a tree root issue, and completely cleaned up my bathroom when they were done.

This is truly a family business- and we need more like them out there.

We had an issue with our main line.  I expected to pay for an estimate for the plumber to look.  He looked at it and I thought it was going to be around $75 because he was there for about an hour.  The price was double and even more.  I wish he would have told me the cost before but he just told me at the end.  Also, I was a bit upset because he was very unclear what was the next step.  We paid a price for him to examine our piping but still ended up having to find someone else.  I don't recommend them but maybe I just had a bad experience.

I had my mom call me yesterday because she had water backing up in the back -to- back tub and shower in her home in the Sleepy Hollow area of Hayward.   I came out with my auger and went thru the main stack on the roof as I have done before, but the tub and shower didn't clear.  I tried going down thru the shower drain (2) and made it thru the trap, and couldn't get it to clear.  I told my mom that she better call a professional to come out and she called you.  A young man crawled under the very tight crawl space (been there before) and found that the fixture fitting they used is no longer to code and changed it with a clean-out accessable to the outside of the house.  I believed what they used back in the day is what we refered to as a cross, with no cleanout.   He pulled out a lot of hair ( used a hair strainer over your drain in the tub or shower).  She received a 10% discount.  The drain to the tub and shower is now serviceable, so I can take care of mom's house.  Thank you for the prompt service.

Greer Family Plumbing truly lives up to the as good as it gets!. If you mention Yelp, you can get $10 off your transaction. I found this place on Yelp and recommend it for anyone who has plumbing problems.

Here's to 5 Yelping Stars:

1. On Time & Efficient- Appointments can be made between 7am to about 5pm at night on weekdays. They use to do weekends, but currently only service during the weekday. Plumber Jeff and his entourage (+1 helper) got here 9 minutes after the scheduled time (7:09am) , but finished half an hour earlier than expected. I was amazed at the speed, efficiency, and timeliness of everything.

2. Affordable & Reasonable: Affordable and reasonably priced at $140/hour. Most simple plumbling jobs would probably run about 1-1.5 hours unless you are getting some piping installed.

3. Responds Quickly to Inquiry: When you are having a plumbing issue, you are probably already stressed and panicking. Greer Family Plumbing (Michelle aka Jeff the Plumber's wife) returns voicemails rather quickly. I left one on an evening and got a reply within a hour. She also picks up the phone into the evening/night hours and weekends. Meanwhile, two other places that I called didn't bother returning my call until 3 days later and by then I already resolved my problem (shame!!).

4. Friendly & Family Oriented: I miss the days when I can pick up the phone and talk to someone real. Not only are they rather real, but their customer service is friendly, courteous, and helpful. They do not oversell you on anything you do not need. I felt like I was in good hands. They were honest and quick in providing me an estimate.

I had a positive experience with this company and highly recommend them.

I had to find a plumber to install an industrial sink (like one a restaurant would use except we're not a restaurant) in a tight space in a strangely shaped room in a business office park. Greer Family Plumbing got the job done properly in just one day! We are still (a month later) very pleased with their work.

Terry timely arrived on time at my residence to provide me with a quote to repair a suspected deteriorated gasket that caused a water leak from the bathtub to a room downstairs. The quote for such repair, among other things, was reasonable. I decided to contract with Greer and Terry returned on time and quickly repaired the suspected deteriorated gasket, and cleaned up the remnants. When we pointed out that one of our toilets flush handles was defective, Terry said it just needed a new assembly and proceeded to fix it, even though it wasn't part of the contract.  Terry was professional and went over and beyond, so we will be using Greer again for future plumbing issues.

We have a tub in our house hasn't drained since we bought it three years ago.  I finally called Greer Family Plumbing last week and they had someone come out on the day I requested.  They get major points for actually having a dedicated phone person to schedule appointments, not just some guy's cell phone where he jots down your info on a scrap of paper.  Greer runs a professional operation which makes scheduling so much easier.

Vince came out as scheduled and was able to replace our drain pipe in a few hours.  I felt bad because it required him to crawl under our house through a tiny entrance and other repair guys (including my husband) have been less than thrilled about it, but the Vince went under there with GUSTO.  Scampered in there like a champ and got it done.  And he made sure to cover his work boots when he had to go back in the house to check the tub so he wouldn't track dirt everywhere.  Very thoughtful and considerate work, plus the cost was less than what another (less reputable) plumber had quoted me.   Highly recommended, I will be using them as our regular plumber from now on.

We were having problems with our kitchen sink backing up so Greer told us they needed to install a pump to ensure that the flow was able to get a little uphill to the sewer.

They charged us over $5k to install the pump and at first it seemed fine. However a few months later, it began filling up with huge amounts of grease which clogged it and made it stop working.

I asked them to fix it so it wouldn't do this and I was given a flip response of Well just stop pouring grease down your drain, nothing we can do

We have a normal household kitchen, we do not put much grease down our drain.

I found another plumber and they took a look and said this absolutely should not be a problem, the pump was just installed incorrectly.

If Greer had taken the problem seriously rather than blaming me for their poor installation, I would have felt they had some integrity. But they did not.

So then we had to spend another $2k to get the pump repaired by another plumber.

I will not be using Greer again.

My first impression when they came out was that they seemed pretty good. They said it could take a few days as they needed to reach out to their parts suppliers. But as I waited for their quote on the job, it never appeared. I had several plumbers out for estimates so I didn't bother calling back. It's been about a month and a half since they came out, still no quote. Not like I need it at this point, just sayin'.

I had two jobs done by this company. The first was intallation of a clean out for a sewer lateral.Idug the hole, Ben did the work then  I filled the hole.I liked that we worked together to find a cheaper solution. About a year later,I had a water heater installed. Again they worked with me to get it done as cheap as possible with AMERICAN PARTS. I will use them again.

Our Company's bathroom was clogged and as much as we tried, we could not unclog it which then led to backups in the pipes and into our sinks. Went on yelp to find a plumber. Called the first few and most of them said they could not be here until 3 hours. With it being Xmas Eve and working half day, we needed someone right away. Hoping we would get someone near us, we called A1 Greer Family Plumbing and thankfully they just finished up a job around the corner from us. They came here pretty quick, took a look at our situation, told us what needed to happen and they  got to it right away. They probably finished it within an hour. Pricing was not too bad either. Will definitely use them again.  Thank you A1 and Happy Holidays!

I had to double check when i saw so many 5 stars.  i thought maybe I was reviewing the wrong business.  Then I saw the name Herb and knew I was in the right place.
Short version: Herb came out and snaked our drain (I already had everything moved out of his way.  He needed me to provide a flashlight and a crescent wrench (seems like things a plumber might want to purchase at some point).
He spent a short amount of time snaking the drain, and was off.
A few days later, it backed up again.
My wife called in - the lady she spoke to said she would have management look into it.  My wife got a call from Herb (I'm not sure if he is management?), who said he would not redo it and that our pipes were sized too small.  Our house was built in the 1950s and the drain has worked fine.
Long story short, I wasted $150 for about 20 minutes of work and about 5 days of functioning drain.  I was very surprised that they didn't honer their work for at least a week.

I had a leak and water running from my shower into my garage below. I called Greer as soon as they were open, and within 10 minutes of my voicemail, Michelle called me back to tell me that someone could come by 1pm. She then called back again to tell me they could be there by 10am instead! Marty & Joey were fantastic - professional, courteous, cleaned up after themselves, and explained everything that they were doing. They worked quickly and efficiently to determine the issue and make the necessary repairs. While I hope I don't have any plumbing issues in the future, I'll definitely call them first. I'd recommend Greer to anyone looking for prompt and reliable service.

I read the reviews on Yelp & decided on Greer because it was a local, family run business.  I called at 8:00 a.m. & by 9:00 Ben was at my door.  He was friendly, courteous & fixed my clogged drain within an hour.  He even gave me tips on how to prevent this from happening again.  Although it cost $150 it was well worth the quick, efficient service.

Very pleased with the service.  Ben came right on time, actually, about 5 minutes early,  which was good for me...listened patiently as this senior citizen described the problem... that involved my washing maching backing up when it drained...
Ben got right to the problem and corrected it...put my appliances back in place...
I felt very comfortable...machine working beautifully...will use their services again.   Michelle , who answered the phone was also very patient and listened to my concerns.

Being patient and courteous is important when dealing with all customers and especially senior citizens.

Another home run for this company. This time my business in San Leandro had a persistently slow sink. We had tried the chemical drain cleaners to no avail so we called our friends at A1/Greer.  They made an appointment for the next day and even telephoned to let me know the tech was on his way.  Terry was extremely nice and very friendly and he solved the problem!  He had to remove the sink and the p trap (which was rusted in) but he did it with a smile.  After a good clean out we are draining great!  Another great experience with a company we trust!

I got a sump pump installed by another company.  I found out once the first rain came, that they did a horrible job, overcharged me, and would not return my calls.

I then call Greer Family Plumbing who came out right away, inspected the pump, quoted the job, and then with my approval, fixed all the issues I was having.

Fast, fair, and reliable.  I will always use them in the future!!!

We been using Greer family plumbing Castro Valley / Hayward for a long time. They are the best.  They fast and efficient . They get job done right the first time. This company and their employees are trustworthy. We don't have to watch while  they work. Being older . its important to feel safe and secure,  when having people in your home to do work. So yes I HIGHLY RECOMMEND GREER FAMILY PLUMBING for all your family plumbing needs. I had a lot of different plumbers and company's over the years . But Greer #1 and I keep them for the rest of my years, with no fear. Thank you from Sandy P Clark and Vicky Perry

Still loving Greer.  Terry is the best!  So nice and honest.  And they always call with a *correct* estimate of when they'll be there.  I never have to wait.

Plus, Michelle is the friendliest.  And their prices are super reasonable.  I wouldn't trust anyone else with my plumbing.  Thank you Greer!

I agree whole heartily with all the previous reviews of the Greer Family Plumbers. I had a serious emergency pipe leakage problem. I was given several alternative ways to fix the problem. The crew was fast, efficient, polite, informative and versatile. Once walls were opened, other problems were exposed. The crew was able to fix those problems and recommend other services who had to come in. I especially appreciate that all costs were discussed in advance as the problems were discovered. No surprises. I will only use these plumbers in the future. I agree completely ...you do get what you pay for!!!  Debbie d

I was referred to A1 from another company I used to use who switched from Residential to Commercial projects.

Had A1 Greer replace our old leaky galvanized main line from the street to the house.  They came out, gave me a hand-shake estimate including all the permit details needed, walked me through what was going to happen quickly but also thoroughly.

Day of the job, they showed up on time, did a few additional things we hadn't talked about but I was happy they took care of and ended up charging me Less than the initial estimate with options on different ways I could save a buck or two here and there.

Communication was clear.
Office staff is organized and friendly.
Crew was experienced and professional.
Contractors State License Board License is current with active WC insurance listed (very important to me).

A1 Greer is as good as it gets and I will be using them in the future when the rest of the plumbing comes up for needing replacement.

On a scale of 1-10...we give Greer Fam Plumbing a 20!  So blessed that we found them!  I called them last NIGHT...AFTER HOURS, left a msg for someone to call me back ASAP...Michelle called me back in less than 5 mins.  I explained to Michelle that I had flushed the toilet and a squirrel shot out like a rocket and scared me to death!  I was completely traumatized and Michelle listened to me and was sympathetic!  I scheduled an appt for 1st thing next morning.  Herb and Vince came out just now and were nothing but professional!  They drive a marked van Greer Family Plumbing which also prominently displays their CA Plumbing License Number!  They each wore company tshirts.  Herb is quite knowledgeable and thoroughly explained what he was doing and what he was discovering as he scoped our sewer line with a camera looking for possible ports of entry!  Vince, was also very professional and courteous!   We feel well serviced and are extremely satisfied!  If you are looking for a plumber...and feel like you are plucking feathers in the wind...CALL GREER FAM PLUMBING...YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED!  T. & J. We used Greer in the past for a hot water heater replacement. But now, something seems to be going downhill, maybe it's Herb. We called Greer for two jobs, a mysterious leak (always tuff to find, admittedly) and a new kitchen faucet. Fail on both accounts, with tons of sheet rock debris in his wake. Then we call to complain, and we get Terry, who does replace the kitchen faucet (what's up with Herb?) and then charges us AGAIN for the same useless hours that Herb logged, battling the old kitchen faucet. We argued for a small discount, but don't feel we should pay twice for a job done once. Not good. We won't use Greer again.

I've called on Greer Plumbing several times, based largely on a personal friend's recommendation. They diagnosis a seal leak at the dishwasher, but didn't want to reset our toilet wax seal. I believe they came out for a variety of little plumbing things: tighten faucets and handles, re calibrate toilet running, clear slow drain.
We called them for a major sewer line clog that backed up into our tubs, etc. This had happened before and I swear, it's only when EBMUD or one of the neighbors is working on their lines!  We had a clean-out installed some years ago and they came and cleared the line. However, the plumber clearly stated that we absolutely needed a sewer lateral replacement, that the line was probably clogged with roots, etc., etc., we needed to remove trees and bushes and that they more or less couldn't/wouldn't guarantee the work at all. So, of course, within a day or two ... the line clogged again. At night.

I don't know. There was just something ... lazy(?) about the guy who did the work, so I called some other plumber services about clearing the line. Even at an additional $135, it was still cheaper to try one more time than to, give up and have the sewer line replaced immediately, which would never be immediately anyhow and we weren't ready to dig an out house in the meantime.

I was able to get someone who came out that night, (found him in the yellow pages, wish I could remember his name) who charged less than Greer, and he cleared the line that night. And guess what?  ... my line is STILL CLEAR (and I'm writing this review like a year later!) So, I have to say I was disappointed. I paid more and then had to pay again for the second sewer line cleaning.
I was able to also find a cheaper and more cooperative plumber from Rent-a-husband, which is a handy man operation, who both could and would reset the toilet which was too something for Greer's guy to want to do.

When I was in need of a plumber due to a leaky sewer line I called a chain plumber, who advised me of the work I needed. Now I know plumbers charge a lot and I really hate to call one but when you need one you need one. So this chain company snaked my line and I put the problem as a whole on the back burner.

Long story short I didn't go to the chain company but decided to call Greer Family Plumbing. The chain company wanted to charge me almost double what Greer was charging. Now as I was going through the plumbers on Yelp I realized I knew the name Greer. Turns out I went to high school with the owner but didn't know him that well but I figured If I'm going to give a plumber my money it might as well be to someone I was associated with in some way and was a local name. This is not a biased review as I feel they treated me as any other customer.

So another long story short. I've used them on a number of jobs both in my grandmothers house and a neighbors. I've been satisfied with their work, their crew and their promises and there price is fair and most of all I trust them to be honest with me and not to sell me on stuff i don't need.

I've used them to unclog my sewer line and ultimately fix the line. They also ran a new water main pipe to the house that had a leak. They fixed the neighbors plumbing under the toilet and bath, but also stated that the pipes under the kitchen where already in great shape, thank god...

Btw both houses are older homes in the Old San Leandro District.

Hopefully I don't need to use a plumber again for awhile but if I did I would call Greer Family Plumbing!

I read the reviews on Greer and had also gotten a reco from my neighbor, and they did not disappoint! I have an old home and the shower was having problems...half the water would drain down the faucet instead of coming through the showerhead. I feared the worst (visions of my shower tile being ripped off, having to fully replace all my old galvanized pipes). I called in the morning and they came out later that afternoon. Discovered that it was just a part that needed replacing, which they found the next day. $250 later I have a great shower once again....cheaper than I expected, given my old pipes.  Herb (who came Day 1) and Terry (who came Day 2) were very nice and quick workers. Very dog-friendly, too. Great company.

First, the first available appointment was many days away. I was hoping for a next day appointment.

Second, they rescheduled my appointment because the plumber was of ill health. So I had to wait even longer. I understand that things come up, though, so I accepted this.

Third, when he finally did come, it was completely useless. He not seem to know what he was doing (decided that I have a certain type of pipe in my wall by looking at the pipe going into my house and looking at the pipes going to my water heater and kitchen sink...). As for problems with my hot water, I found more information online than he offered.

The only reason that they get 2 stars from me is because the visit was free.

Thank you- Thank you!!!

First I would like to say thank you to Jeff for being so calm on the phone when I was not.

When I came home from work after a long 10 hours I stepped in water on my front porch- weird- not really weird when I stepped inside to see water flowing like a river down my hallway!! I followed the little Mississippi to my kitchen sink and when I opened the cabinet door water just started spraying me in the face. I shut the door and looked in the phone book for a plumber- After 3 calls and 3 answering machines for other guys, I heard a friendly voice on the other end, Jeff Greer. I filled him in on the issue and he described over the phone how to quickly shut off the water to the house. Done.
Then he walked me through the labyrinth of lines under my sink- AKA: R/O water filter, icemaker, insta hot, sink. He described everything in detail as if he was standing beside me, thats what I would expect from a pro! He described how to isolate the line that was broke and leaking so I could turn the water back on to the house and get a shower. He then said he would stop by to see what it would take to fix it. An hour later Jeff was at my sink installing a new shut off coming out from the wall. Problem Solved! He even had the part on the truck and the item was replaced in about 30 minutes from start to finish.

Greer Family Plumbing rates are reasonable, Jeff is a pleasure to work with, and I would recommend them to anyone I know. I was very surprised with the single 1 star rating on Yelp and the corresponding 15 people that found that review useful. I would take 8 to 1 odds any day and would just write off the single star rating.

Thank you Greer for making me part of the family

Fair & Reasonable Pricing

Terry came right on time, something that rarely happens in the service industry for various reasons.

We noticed a leak under our kitchen sink a couple of days ago and for the last couple of months we noticed that our guest bathroom toilet wasn't filling up very fast anymore.

1)  Kitchen Sink Leak
After a quick inspection, Terry found the leak was part of the retractable faucet head.  Seeing that it was a Kohler he mentioned that usually the faucets have a lifetime warranty so to check that first before considering purchasing the replacement parts.  WINNER WINNER CHICKEN DINNER.  I called up Kohler, gave them the part #, and they're now sending me the part free of charge.  Before leaving Terry showed me exactly what to do in order to replace the part after it comes in.

2)  Guest Toilet water pressure
After a quick inspection, Terry found that the flumaster (sp?) was clogged and the main reason it wasn't refilling up fast enough.  I noticed this was starting to happen to my master bath as well.  He told me I could purchase the parts and install it myself, but I didn't want to risk it and asked if he would do the honors.  Without hesitation he went to Home Depot found the replacement parts, came back to home, and installed it.

The tips he gave me on what to look for and insights into things I should keep in mind living in a home with no under crawl were an extra bonus.

This was an incredible experience.  Greer Family Plumbing deserves all the raves they get on Yelp.

When our plumber for years was too booked to help us with our flooded basement during the storm of October 2009, we were referred  to Greer Family Plumbing.  They responded within an hour and had our sump pump fixed and a new water heater installed the next day!  Three months later when our basement flooded again in January 2010, they again had someone at our home within the hour.  In view of our flooding problems, we then had them install a tankless water heater on the side of our home instead of in our basement.  And in February 2010 we had them bring our sump pump up to code.   In April 2010 we had them repipe our home.  The job took about two days and we are thrilled with the results.

Throughout our dealings with this company we have found them to be customer oriented and to perform their work in an efficient manner.   To us they appear to be just as good, if not better, then those companies which state they are Diamond Certified.   What we like the best is that they speak to us in layman's terms.  Nothing is too complicated for them to explain to us so we can understand what is going on.  They clearly explain our options and present us with alternatives.  They treat us with respect!  And best of all, they are one of the few plumbing companies that give a senior discount for their labor.  We highly encourage our friends to at least give them a call for an estimate.  We have every confidence that they will be pleased with the work that is performed.  We certainly were!!!

Excellent experience with this company from beginning to the end. I appreciate a real person answers the phone and takes care of business.  Terry the plumber was early and did his thing!   It was a pleasure to work with someone who is professional and friendly and got the job done in a timely manner.  Best part was the the cost which was more than competitive  for snaking the pipes.  Highly recommend this company for all your plumbing needs.

I have used Greer Plumbing several times over the past 10 yrs, and once again they have provided me wonderful service, at a very fair price.  Jeff and his assistant came to my house in Castro Valley and moved a gas line for me, capping another outlet, running a new line to a kitchen stove and a line to the garage in case we ever want a gas dryer.  Figured while pipes are being rerouted, might as well.  The work was clean, quick, they were prompt as scheduled.  Can't complement them enough!

This was one of those times that I was very thankful for Yelp.  Had a shower issue, I called and got a visit within 2 hours.  Very prompt and called right before they were going to come.  He even took a look at all my sinks before he left.  Very well priced, much better than Roto-rooter.  By all means call them!

I was referred to A1 Greer Family Plumbing, so I thought I'd give them a try to repair a kitchen faucet that wasn't working properly. This should have been a simple repair, right? Well, after removing the flow restrictors, it seemed to be working better, so the plumber left. Little did I know that there was a constant drip coming from the turn off valves under the sink. The plumber hadn't checked to make sure that it wasn't leaking after he turned the water back on. I attempted to call them twice that Friday evening, but didn't get a call back until the following Sunday! They offered to send someone out on Monday. Well, I had to call another plumber who came out at 1am on Saturday morning to repair what had become a major leak by then. No, I no longer need you Greer Family Plumbing, not anymore. Oh, and they said they were going to see about adjusting my bill. Well, that never happened either.

Tenant texts me one morning and said the shower handle in the master bath fell off and it's also leaking water!  WTF?  10+ years without any issues when I lived there and 3 weeks into the lease, it's now an issue?

No problem.  Stuff happens.  I'm on it!

Called A1 Greer to take a look after reviewing their Yelp reviews and arranged to have Terry the faucet guy (apparently, they specialized in certain areas!) stop by the next day to take a look.

Terry arrives on time, is courteous, COMPETENT, and gets the job done in 90 minutes.

My wallet is three bills lighter for the shower and additional minor plumbing work but

1) Shower is fixed.
2) Labor is backed by a 1 year warranty.
3) Clean tenants are happy tenants :)

Be sure to mention Yelp for a 10 dollar discount.

Terry came to help my mom with a plumbing noise. No repairs were needed but he was so patient and gave her assurance of her concerns. We have used Greer for years and will always recommend them.

Just got yelp app to leave a review. Phenomenal group of people. Able to come out immediately and help fix an issue I wasn't able to. Was given a price gouging quote from another local outfit. Greer had Great prices and great service. Highly recommend.

I went searching for a plumber, first I put in plumber san leandro but then I remembered to look at Yelp and boy am I glad a I did.  The reviews are all true!  Michelle is AWESOME.  She is patient, clear, listens and flexible!  Ben was also great!! Upon immediately meeting him I could tell my always suspicious husband was happy with my find.  Not only did Ben provide us great service he also was very understanding to a delicate situation we had to tend to in our home.  I am sooo utterly THRILLED to have found a service I can call upon and TRUST.  Thanks Yelpers for the find and THANKS Greer Family Plumbing!  p.s. prices are soooooo reasonable!

Any fear I have ever had of a Plumber has gone away!  I called 3 other places for an estimate and thanks to Yelp, I found The Greer's!
From the moment I spoke to Michelle to set the appt., To Ben coming to give a rapid & honest estimate, their service was amazing.  This time yesterday I had a leak and less than 24 hours later Ben fixed it!  He also explained what was wrong, why and how the problem was fixed!
Always remember you get what you pay for and Quality Service is what we received!  Not to mention they are a local Family Business not some corporation where you are just an invoice # waiting to be charged an arm and a leg!!!!  Thanks Greer Plumbing for a Job well done.

Again, have to concur with everyone else's response about this company. I called about having a leak in the bathroom near the toilet. They pleasantly answered the phone, sent someone out the same day, he fixed it on the spot, and now I can sleep at night! Thank you Greer plumbing!

Bottom line is USE GREER FAMILY PLUMBERS!   We had a persistent leak under our sink and our garbage disposal was broken.  We called a plumber on craigs list who never showed up.  So we then called a plumber from a large yellow page ad who came charged us $200.00 to fix the leak and told us we needed a new disposal.   24 hours later we still had the leak!  So we called them back and they were happy to come out again but at the full rate!!!! Yep they were still move than willing to charge us full price for a repair they didnt do correclty.  So we found Greer on Yelp and they came out, found the leak, fixed it and our garbage disposal the first guy said could not be repaired.  They were able to find the leak in just about 5 minutes, they first guy said he could really find the leak but he did fix what he was pretty sure was the problem.  We have used Greer since and Ben came out to help us get our drains running.  We thought we knew the problem but Ben knew better, he saved us the charge of snaking our main drain (which we thought we had to do) and fixed the problem permantly for us!  Oh and by the was Greer did our toilet installs for us too, and after the install we found a minor leak, and guess what, they were right back out to fix it NO CHARGE!!! So as I said, bottem line, HIRE THESE GUYS!

Greer Family Plumbing is my go to plumber, and because we have an older home, we sometimes need them too often. I have found them to be professional, timely, friendly, and honest.  Their prices  are competitive, and have been done a good job in resolving our plumbing issues.  Terry has been our favorite, we have been satisfied with everyone that we have dealt with.

When we bought our home, it was a bank-owned property that need some minor plumbing work. I contacted A1 Greer based on the reviews here. Michelle does an excellent job with communication and she always let us know exactly when the plumber would arrive. They do exceptional work and provide no-nonsense advice. They installed a new toilet, a new kitchen sink which I bought at an Oakland Chinatown hardware store at a great price based on the plumber's recommendation, an earthquake safety gas valve and they extended a gas line to my dryer. As long as I live in the Bay Area, they will be my plumbing service provider.

I had to call them out to repair a Drain Leak on 9/12/12.  The service was excellent.  They not only found the problem, but were able to repair it on the same day even though it was not a simple matter. The price was very reasonable.

First I am giving two stars because MAYBE it was an honest oversight.

I had Greer out over a year ago because there was water leaking up on the side of my house. Greer came and dug a whole in the congrete and fix a cracked metal pipe (?).  for $1209.25.  The water never went away so I called them back, they came back and looked at it and said it was ground water. Summer/Dry season came and went and it never dried out. I called an spoke to Ben on the phone only this time and was assured it was groundwater. Well a year later and still water is in the whole that that dug. So I called American Leak Detector and they found a leak just below pipe that Greer aledgedly fixed.  So all this time we have had water leaking and was wasting money where Greer assurred me was ground water.

I am not sure why when they came back they didn't check to make sure they got the correct leak or double check to make sure there wasn't another one since there was still obviously a lot of water coming from somewhere.

So as I started maybe and honest mistake but I want a company that is more thorough and wants to be sure the problem is completely resolved.

Excellent customer service starting from the receptionist to the plumber (Ben). I had asked for an over the phone quote for a pipe issue, and she said that someone would need to take a look and get a better idea of the problem, Ben was very nice and professional. Instead of getting the pipes valves replaced, he told us a simple fix to resolve our problem. Saved some money and gave us recommendations to help us prevent our valve issues in the future.

I hired Greer Family Plumbing to snake a line at my property. During the process their snake got stuck in roots in the pipe. I took it on their word that it was not due to any mistake on their part. They wanted to charge me $1,500 (not including concrete) to excavate and recover the snake or $300 for the cost of the snake itself. I had a friend help me with recovering the snake which was stuck in roots for substantially less money inlcuding the concrete. I called a few top ranked plumbers on Yelp to get their opinions about who was at fault and they all concluded that getting the snake stuck was Greer's fault and that they would not have billed me if the situation occured with them. I contacted Greer and offered them a very fair offer to resolve the issue but Jeff was very combatitive on the phone with me and would not even agree to credit the original fee. I will hire another plumber next  time. A tip to Jeff - when you call a disatisfied customer, try listening not confronting.

At least once or twice a year, our house needs some plumbing help -- I guess given its age (built in '58), it should be expected.  I used to panic each time, but now I just call Greer.

Our disposal sprang a leak, and when we went to check it out, the entire P-trap disintegrated!

Once again, Greer Family Plumbing saved the day.  (Time for an update:  I am delighted to report that they still deserve the FIVE BIG STARS!)

Like a flash, Terry from Greer was here, and quickly replaced the works.  And, while we awaited the arrival of the new disposal, he also very kindly replaced a toilet seat.

Such friendly, accommodating service.  Always fair pricing.  Always right on time.  And always so tidy, never leaving a mess behind.  I really appreciate that.

It is such a pleasure to have a service provider I can rely on, and recommend without reservations.  I have told so many friends about the Greer team, and so far, all have been so pleased with the services they received.

(Note that these are the same guys who also operate out of Manteca.  They cover a lot of territory, so if you're not sure if you're in their service area, just give them a call.)

And, I just realized that this rave review sounds suspiciously like I am one of their cousins or something... Don't worry.  I'm bona fide!  :-)

Bathroom faucet was leaky and despite my attempts to replace the stem gaskets, it continued to leak.  Terry the receptionist was very understanding and has an excellent customer service.  Marty came by and made quick work of replacing the faucet I purchased.  He even made sure the area was clean before setting the new faucet down.  He is very professional and has a very amiable personality.  Thank you, Greer Plumbing, Marty, and Terry; you set me off on a good start for the New Year!

After reviewing yelp and getting some positive comments from friends we decided to give Greer Family Plumbing a try for slow drains at our rental.

While they cleared the sink (seemed a bit pricey) they could not clear the tub drain. We were told the waste overfill was shot and they would need to replace it all by tearing out the walls to get to it for a cost of $750!  Given we had had some work done recently (and doubted it could be that bad) my husband decided to get a snake at HD and give it a try himself with the help of a plumber friend. With little difficultly they cleared the pipe and the tub is draining perfectly now.

So, they get 2 stars for showing up on time and clearing the sink, but the estimate for the tub was so high and clearly a wrong diagnosis for the problem - they do not deserve higher.

Had some problems with a job that had to be put on hold due to unforeseen circumstances, but the plumber left a pipe just stuffed into the outlet without a slip nut or whatever it's called to keep it tight, so of course it leaked. We did get it worked out eventually but it should not have been left that way in the first place.

My parents house in San Leandro had a gas line leak recently. We called PG&E and they determined the leak was on the underground line. We called a company recommended by a friend. They came and basically told us what we already know that the problem was the underground line. They quoted us several thousands dollars to dig up the line and replace line. Then they said while there at it they can check the sewer line too. It'll be about a week to do.  I asked for other options because my parents were retired and on limited income. Their option was to finance the cost up to 20 years!? Seriously?!  I brought up capping the line and rerouting it. Then they said yeah that's possible and said they'll have to check with the city. Two to 3 days passed and not a word. So I called and said nothing but pushing to dig up to pipe again. I said no thanks.

Then I went on Yelp and found Greer family plumbing. Yelp reviews looks good but I was skeptical. I still decided to call them. After a few phone calls, I was able to set up an appointment with Virginia. Then I met up with Vince and his partner. He was there early and already started looking into the line. First impression with Vince was great.  He listen about my parents situation and I'm looking for the most economical but safest route. He went straight with what he sees and already had plans for the best option. He came across as a knowledgable and honest person. A couple of days later, we got a quote from Virginia and went with the original suggestion Vince recommended.

The repair day came (04/22/16) and Vince and his partner came on time. My mom let them in and they got going. They worked fast, safe and even clean up the mess afterwards. Vince were so ahead of schedule they also help detect a couple of small line leaks they found on the water heater and furnace and fixed them!!! They were still ahead of schedule. After the they were done, I got a call from Vince and went over the repair and other issues.  All I can say is he was very thorough, very clear explanation and best of all very professional! GREAT JOB!!! My parents are happy to be able to cook and shower! :)

Thank you Greer Family Plumbing, Virginia, Vince and team!!! I'm glad to know a great and honest company are still out there to provide great service and doesn't make you feel that you're getting ripped off. I think I found a plumbing company when I need one! Highly recommended!!!

This update is much overdue. Greer Family Plumbing went above and beyond and took care of everything. The owner redid the flooring, it looks beautiful. The sump pump outside is fixed. The tech who did the botched job no longer works there,  and he is not a reflection of this company.  I was really impressed with the care and concern Jeff had and I'm very grateful. Thank you Greer Family!

Pretty standard water heater replacement - it's in my garage, easy access.  Joel did decent work and explained how to maintain the unit.  He didn't provide an estimate.  I was referred to Greer, so I thought I would get a fair price without asking.

Here's a little price transparency for the general public:

The invoice I got was $1,250 labor for about 2 hours of work and $1,388 for a 50 gallon water heater.

Asked for a deal on the parts but they said they would lose money for any less...
The water heater is a Bradford White 50 gallon (model URG250t6n).  You can find it online for about $750 shipped.  Lose money, eh?

$1,250 for 2 hours of work?  That's $625 per hour.  I know 40-year attorneys that charge less than that.

I saw all these good reviews and decided to give them a chance. They fixed the water leak, the lady that answer the phone was nice but there were two things I wasn't happy about the service and their charges:

1. They came out for an estimate the 1st day, for about 2 - 3 hours of labor plus the cost of parts.  We were billed for 3 hours plus labor for the work done the 2nd day.  I called the technician, he said he spend around 2.5 hrs but they also have to charge 1/2 hr of time they are running to the store to get the part (???). That's like another $75 dollars we have to pay.  Wish they told us in advance.

2.  Tenant called and still have a leak afterwards, called them on a Friday night right after they left.  No one called me back and later they claimed that they never received the message or phone call.  Tenant fixed the leak.

Not likely to use them again.

My Hunny and I bought a house and after a week of moving in, our main plumbing line got backed up. :(

The toilet wouldn't flush, the tub water wouldn't drain and we were rushing to find a plumber. This happened about 9pm. I called greer plumbing and left a voicemail and sure enough within 20 minutes a lady called me back to schedule an appointment. The next day a plumber came out and snaked our main line and also gave us some advice so the problem wouldn't happen again i.e. change our toilet. I thought it was very nice of him because the last thing we thought caused the problem was the toilet water pressure not being strong enough to completely flush the toilet paper.

Another bonus was the man that came out was a handy man that worked in construction building houses and noticed we were trying to install doors and offered us some good advice (which helped very much)!

*KNOCK ON WOOD* If anything goes wrong with our plumbing again, Greer Family Plumbing will be the only place I'll call :)

I've had them work on my house twice now and happy each time.  This time was a bigger job (water heater replacement and upper shower issues) and it stretched to 5+ hours due to the nature of plumbing, something unexpected always comes up and in this case there were several things.  The two workers showed great perseverance and wonderful attitude the whole time.

Notes to keep in mind.

First, they're NOT a cheapo hack job outfit.  They do a good job and you'll be paying for a company that does a good job.  I have no problem with their rates and if they had asked for more I would have paid.  The two guys here busted their butts and got the job done although it wasn't easy.

Second, they are busy and it's plumbing; meaning that a job they're on has a good chance of going longer than expected.  So when they say they'll get there in a certain window of time, well, it might not happen  Be patient, I think these guys are worth the wait.  I'd rather wait for a good plumber that takes longer to get to my house than have a hack come over right away.  The lady that answers the phone is a great customer service agent.  She'll do her best to keep you updated and she is trying her best to give times as accurate as possible.

Third, no one is perfect and there was a little issue I found after they left.  We were all so excited about getting the job done after a long ordeal no one thought to check a certain area for leaks.  There was a tiny one and they sent a guy over the next day to take care of it.  So if you find something afterwards, don't freak, just give them a call and they'll take care of it ASAP.

I would not hesitate to call Greer Family Plumbing again to work on my house.

This review is long over due! My water heater had overflowed and this was the place that saved my day. I called Michelle and let her know my situation. She really wanted to help me out and moved some appointments around just so I would be without hotwater.
She sent Vince who was my so nice, knowledgeable that he got everything fixed for me in no time.
I highly recommend this business to all, they are honest and will help you get your water heater in no time!
