Tony and his crew came by to install an earthquake shutoff valve on the natural gas line coming into my house.  They also handled several other neighbors' homes on the same day.  The work was high-quality, fast, and complete.  Very impressed and will not hesitate to call them again for all future plumbing needs!

We had a sump pump go down during the last rain and it caused major flooding in our basement. I called and he came out the next morning. He installed a new pump right away. Tony has done two jobs at our condo in Point Richmond and both went smooth as silk: a kitchen faucet replacement in which he made our incorrect choice of faucet work for the space, and replacing two old water supply valves for a washing machine. Tony stays in touch, shows up on time, brings the tools he needs, knows what he's doing, gets the job done, and charges a fair price. It's a good feeling to know a plumber I can rely on to handle whatever comes up. If you need work, call to get on his schedule because he seems in demand -- for good reason.

Bay Plumbing installed a water pressure regulator valve on the exterior of our home. They were connecting to old steel pipes from the water main and warned us that the old pipes might crumble and it could turn into a larger job at higher cost. They deftly connected the new pipes to the old, and expertly integrated the new valve to our existing plumbing and sprinkler system. Tony was very responsive to my requests, prompt for his appointment, and thorough on good listening. We were so confident that we hired him again to install a valve for our refrigerator ice maker. For both projects, Tony listened to my requests, then he explained what the project entailed, possible difficulties, and different scenarios. He finished within the estimated time and we haven't had problems since. I will definitely call Bay Plumbing again!

Tony came to my house to help me find the source of a musty smell in a bathroom - I thought it might be a failed wax seal below the toilet. He came the same day I called, and texted an hour before the appointment to ask if he could come a bit early. I have never worked with a plumber as knowledgeable and easy to communicate with, and he is a fantastic trouble shooter. I ran a few other problems by him when he was here, and he solved them all - previous plumbers had no suggestions. His pricing is extremely reasonable, and he is the only plumber I will call in the future - I feel very fortunate that I found him.

I texted Tony after hours on a Thursday night about an urgent plumbing issue that I needed dealt with the next day. He texted right away and told me that he was not available but that he would refer me to a colleague of his.

Our 1926 bathtub required constant washer replacements until it came
to the point the handles had to be replaced. Tony tried to save them but
the fixtures were so old there were no existing parts. He figured out a
way to provide new tub and shower fixtures and also fixed our leaking

I recently called Bay Plumbing to get a second quote on a gas pipe repair when another company's estimate seemed very high.  The quote was much more in line with my budget so I had Tony do the work.  The team was on-time, completed the work as promised and cleaned up after (always appreciated).  I subsequently hired Tony to do some work in the kitchen and laundry room to move appliance hook-ups and install a new disposal.  Throughout the projects, the team has been great.  Tony explains the work in detail before beginning to set a proper expectation for timing and the final outcome. There have been no hidden fees and we even worked to adjust a portion of the project at no extra cost. We found him through our real estate agent, and asked him to do several jobs before we moved into our new home: fixing some existing shoddy plumbing work, running a gas line to the kitchen and the backyard, venting our laundry properly, running pipe for a utility sink.
He quoted us reasonable prices for every portion of the overall job, did the work in a timely manner, and was super communicative with us throughout. He was happy to explain anything we asked about, and even gave some helpful advice about how to get some drainage work done under the house. He also has an awesome assistant who did a lot of the work--he was super polite and really fast.
All this is great, right? Well, it gets better. We ran into Tony at Home Depot near our house one weekend while we were setting things up before the move--he went there to grab a part for the work he was doing at the house--and he volunteered to take a roll of linoleum we had just bought back to the house for us so we wouldn't have to go back there. So unexpected and kind.
And that's not even the best part. We had our new gas stove installed by Linn Star Transfer (a contractor for Home Depot's appliance deliveries) after Tony put in the gas line. They installed the stove incorrectly (I don't even know how that is possible; it's not complicated) and we had a gas leak until we turned off the gas via Tony's properly installed gas shutoff valve. Instead of dealing with Linn Star again, we decided to see if we could pay Tony to do this tiny job--we would have happily paid him more than it was worth just to get it done properly and not waste his time. He said sure, he'd check it out; then he went to our house and fixed it for free.
Seriously, hire this guy! I know we'll be using him for more work in the future.

Clogged sink during the quarantine treated with gallons of jellied drain poisons resulted only in our kitchen smelling like a long abandoned high school swimming pool,   chose Tony and Bay Plumbing entirely by a dartboard in the dark and that random intuition was picture perfect! Polite,  friendly and professional ... rolled out the rescue mat to keep his work tidy,  ran the snake machine  right there in the kitchen, whirled quiet as a mouse and viola! drain runs clean! Tony offered a work guarantee and rolled everything out the door simple as pie ... yes -  should another plumbing need arise I'll  be calling Bay Plumbing. (Verified user! honest) Plus! Clogged sink, toilet and water coming up the shower drain as I'm trying to cook dinner - what a nightmare!  After calling 12+ plumbing companies with no availability or just an answering machine, I was so relieved that Tony not only picked up the phone, but had a conversation about what was going on and when he was available (8am the next day). So many other companies that I called simply answered the phone to tell me they were unavailable.

What struck me most was his professional manner: calm, helpful and friendly without being pushy or demanding. He explained possible causes and patiently answered my questions about if it was okay to use our bathrooms and faucets by explaining what he thought the issue might be and why it might be risky to use them.  He reconfirmed our appointment via text later in the evening and also texted me in the morning as he was heading over (arriving within the time frame he promised the night before.)

Tony arrived with his assistant and immediately put on shoe covers before entering our home. As a neat freak and a family that doesn't wear shoes indoors, I appreciated this. He was also careful to take on/off his shoe covers whenever he entered our home - he wasn't just wearing them for show. After asking some questions and taking a look at our drains, he explained what he thought the problem might be and how he would tackle fixing it. His pricing was fair and included a warranty. He ended up having to use the mechanical snake from more than one area on our property to reach the clog and didn't raise the price for the extra effort involved. Afterwards, he checked to ensure the clog was resolved.

Bay Plumbing was professional, efficient, and reasonably priced. Tony is also just a nice guy who does good work. When we need our water heater replaced or any other plumbing needs, I'll be calling him.

Mystery leak in our house that we assumed was coming from the upstairs shower/tub combo. Tony and his co-worker responded same day and we completely geared up for COVID prevention (masks, gloves and shoe covers) and discovered where the leak was coming from and fixed it quickly. They also offer a 90 day warranty on their work if there are any issues. Very professional and efficient plumbers that I recommend highly.

We had an emergency with our water heater and even though it was after hours, Tony was able to stop by and fix the issue. He was patient and detailed in his explanations about the work and gave us a lot of options to think through. We are so grateful and would recommend to anyone!

Our kitchen sink was leaking outside of our house and down our driveway. We got Tony's name from our neighbor and we're glad we did! He came right out the same day to diagnose it, and got everything repaired in just a couple of days. We highly recommend him to anyone!

In the midst of the Covid-19 crisis, our bathroom sink pipe broke and water was leaking all over the floor.  With trepidation to let a plumber in, Tony reassured us he was taking precautions-gloves, booties, a mask, which he put on before entering, and texted us what time he was coming. He clearly explained his price for labor ahead of time, and determined upon inspection that a part underneath the sink was broken. He had the part available in his truck, so he didn't need to go out to other stores. He is sweet, polite, and efficient and fixed the problem in about an hour with a 30-day guarantee on his labor. I was impressed with his calm demeanor and recommend that if you have an emergency situation and need a plumber, you should call Tony at Bay Plumbing during this time of Coronavirus.

Called Tony this morning. Best decision ever!  This guy is amazing.   He showed up exactly when he said he would, diagnosed two problems extremely quickly, gave me a very reasonable estimate, and then fixed both problems on the spot!  He is a true professional.  Not only that but he's a super nice and ethical person.  We're having family stay with us in two days, and Tony totally saved the day--fixing serious bathroom problems will make for a much smoother visit!  I can't thank him enough.

I have to say this company had the best customer attitude I've experienced since starting this remodel in June '14. They had other things too, like expertise and patience, but it was an added surprise that they were so casually careful with my entire home. No fuss, no attitude, just put on the booties, and covered the floors where they worked - and did I say put on the booties EVERY time they came in?  

The bathrooms are old, and they made some helpful observations and suggestions about future work that sounded right to me. This was a pleasant change too, because I often get really stupid suggestions from guys who seem to think I'll go for anything. Tony's ideas were conservative, and sound, and a welcome relief.

I've had Tony do several projects over about 6 years, ranging from  emergency drain backup problem (which he was able to resolve by coming at end of same day that I contacted him) to major job replacing old crumbling galvanized pipes with copper through entire house.  Excellent and reliable work, communicates well, fair cost.

I feel very fortunate to have been referred to Tony and Bay Plumbing when I moved to Berkeley a few years ago. Tony and his crew addressed a major plumbing issue that arose during our  kitchen remodel.  They also did all of our gas line work and installed our tankless water heater.  I couldn't be happier with their work.  They were very professional and much more affordable than a lot of plumbing companies. His team was very kind and friendly. They were always punctual and worked efficiently.  I would hire them again in an instant!

Had my kitchen redone and needed all the plumbing and gas lines reinstalled.  The work was on a tight schedule and Tony was on time for each stage. Since it's a 1940s house, all the pipes were galvanized and had to be replaced with copper, starting in the crawlspace.  He worked neatly and efficiently for hours and at the end there was a beautifully constructed grid of pipes for the hot & cold water.  After the sink was installed he came back and installed the disposal and the water filter system.  The gas lines for the range had to be repositioned, and he was able to manage that, in addition to knowing about code requirements.  After the project was completed I realized that the single lever on the kitchen faucet bumped against the backsplash wall in the hot position, so at no cost he came back, crawled under the sink and repositioned the lever section of the faucet to be in front.  Problem solved.  
Lastly, since a previous plumber had told me I needed to get all my galvanized pipe replaced in order to prevent mineral buildup and lose my water pressure, I asked him about replacing all of the pipes.  He gave me a very good price, but also said there was no need to do it until I experienced problems.  Since this is not a problem, I decide not to do it.  But am still considering it just to be on the safe side.  What I appreciated was his honesty.  Lastly, he is a sweet and charming person to deal with.

There was water leaking out of the master bedroom shower faucet. The fixtures were from the 1970's so I knew it was about time to the fixtures and cartridge updated. Tony came out to assess the problem. He was upfront and did not want to make any unrealistic promises; he updated me along the way as worked on the faucet and when he went shopping around for the cartridge. Tony found a compatible cartridge and replaced it quickly an at a very reasonable price. Tony also told me that I should start to consider updating the whole faucet / figure in the near future as he showed me the pipe and there was a lot of rust on the current pipe. I will definitely call Tony back when I am ready to replace the whole fixture.

We had a leak between two floors, and Tony came within an hour of our call (and gave us regular updates on his estimated time of arrival within that hour). He gave us several different options to address the issue (differing levels of invasiveness and effectiveness). His diagnosis was free, and his rate for the work very affordable. He checked in with us at every step of the process to update us and let us know how he was proceeding. For the elements of the work he couldn't do (tiling), he was able to recommend a contractor.

Also worth noting that, during this time of SIP, he arrived masked and gloved without us asking.

Tony is excellent. During the Coronavirus Shelter in Place he was quick to respond. A bunch of us in our neighborhood decided it was time to get our Earthquake gas shutoff valves installed for a number of houses. Tony was helpful with all of us neighbors, dealing with each of us individually for the work and payment, etc. Good communication and collaboration. He and his helper wore masks and kept social distancing. His pricing was fair and he explained it clearly. He treated each house and owner individually, explaining possible issues that might come up (e.g. an old furnace problem, a meter that was under the house--might be better to get it moved out from under first, etc). He seemed knowledgeable and straightforward. He left everything cleaned up nicely. Everybody was very happy with him and happy to find a new plumber as well.

In the middle of installing our gas shutoff valves he also dealt with a sink issue I had at work. He took time out to fix the faucet assembly so we wouldn't have to buy a new one. This was on a weekend! He was very fair about all of it. Very handy and price conscious which I appreciated. I've recommended him to other friends since then and they've been very happy with him as well.

Excellent, professional plumbing work, replacing our old pipes and installing new fixtures while preserving old tile much better than we expected. Even painted the new venting pipe outside! Great communication throughout the process. Respectful and easy to have in our home. Very reasonable prices.

Tony of Bay Handyman Plumbing came to my rescue when the main water pipe broke in front of my house. When other companies quoted 1900 for the job, he did it for about half the cost even though the job was really involved. He was also incredibly accommodating to our needs and the urgency of the situation. He came within the hour of me calling - no other company was willing to do even that.

Tony not only helped to calm the explosion in front of the house immediately, he worked with us to make sure we had water at important hours while the repairing was happening.  Through it all, Tony demonstrated not only the utmost of professionalism, but a high level of empathy and compassion, and outstanding craftsmanship.  He resolved the issue within one day (other companies said 2-3 days), worked all day and into the evening to get things going better than business as usual at home.

I don't usually post reviews, but I had to for Bay Plumbing. About 1.5 months ago, I had a sewer main backup. When I made an appointment with Tony, I had no idea how bad it was. It turned out that my basement toilet had sewage flooding out of it due to the backed-up main. Not only did Tony and his colleague assess the extent of the back-up immediately, he and his staff took the entire afternoon to carefully examine and clear the drains throughout the property to understand how these old pipes (house was built in the 20's) were connected.
They also efficiently cleaned out the disgusting toilet, removed and disposed of it, and then cleaned up the bathroom, and put in a new toilet. They even came back the next day with a specialist to visually inspect the inside of the sewer main with a camera to determine whether the pipe was damaged, in order to understand whether damage caused the back-up.
Tony and his staff were patient, considerate, knowledgeable, experienced, thorough and very professional. Although they spent many hours over a 2-day period to do all of this work, they charged a very reasonable price for all of the work.
Tony even stayed behind after hours of grueling work to patiently answer all of my landlady's questions about replacing the sewer lateral and the runoff pipes to meet specs. I HIGHLY recommend Tony and his group for any of your plumbing needs!

Tony at Bay Plumbing is just amazing! My garbage disposal had not been working for a month and as you can imagine things were already starting to smell, lol. I had asked a couple of friends with a bit of plumbing knowledge to take a look. They tried to reset the disposal machine with no avail. They just didn't know what was wrong with the machine.

After a while, I decided that I had no choice but to call an expert.  That's where Tony comes into the picture. He came and take a look at our disposal unit and after 20 minutes he figured out the problem. There was a tiny spoon blocking the machine. He proceeded to take it out and Voila! The machine worked as good as new!

I appreciate such a professional and honest service. Tony told us that it was great the machine still worked as it is  high end machine that came with the property.

I sound so old writing this review because i have worked with Tony for over 20 years. He just did a change of some old plumbing on a clawfoot tub. Most plumbers i think would be smart and turn up their nose and run. He knows that every time you work on old plumbing it always throws you a curve ball. Tong did the job including making some very tight turns to make it all fit and it works brilliantly. I am always amazed at his work. I will tell you to use him even if he gets too busy for my old plumbing nightmares. Ron

We have used Tony and his Bay Plumbing team on two major remodeling projects and a separate tankless water heater and sump pump installation for my home in Alameda.  All of these projects were delivered to perfection.

We had an emergency sewer issue in our new home and, once again, Tony delivered.  Although the home had a major remodel in 2000, apparently they didn't Remodel the sewer system.  Let's just say the Blockage created a terrible situation which, as you can imagine, caused great angst!   The old clean-out access was inaccessible and had to be replaced.   Two new clean-outs were added and the blockage was cleared.  the process took most of the day (Tony arrived at seven AM as promised!)  

This was a difficult job with Tony and his team performed with amazing responsiveness and professionalism.

We hired him for a bathroom remodel which included moving drains, installing a sink, and a new shower system.  He coordinated very effectively with our tile contractor and all work was conducted on a timely basis.  When we called him back during the process because we decided we wanted to relocate something we had originally had him put somewhere else, he came almost immediately to take care of it, because our tile contractor needed the change right away and he handled the redo in a very amiable fashion.  He is quite wonderful to work with!

I am so glad I came across Tony and Alan. I had an emergency repair on Friday 4/21. I called a local company that I dealt with in the past to fix my heater. They send me someone who broke the cartridge while force pulling it, then asked me for $2175 to cut off the tile and replace my whole shower system. My complaint to them fell on deaf ears (see my previous review the same date). So I started calling around. When I called Bay plumbing the recording said to send a text for faster response. I left a VM anyway, then texted the number with a picture of the issue. He replied to my text right away offering a free estimate within the next 2 hours. He called me a bit earlier as he finished his previous job early to check if it's ok to come in earlier than what was planned. I said yes,
He checked the matter, give me 3 options, all the prices were competitive compared to other plumbers I spoke to. Tony and Alan ended up fixing the problem right there and then!
He also saved me money, though pulling the broken piece was very hard.
I thought the  fast service, the good communication and the quality of work all exceeded my expectation.

I very much recommend Bay Plumbing. A long-brewing problem in my bathroom -- tub draining slowly, water coming out onto floor from around toilet -- turned into an urgent disaster. Tony and his crew are everything you could hope for.  They have done two jobs for me and they are fast, polite, skilled, responsive, helpful -- the whole business.  AND the prices are reasonable.   What more can you ask for?

Bottom line - Tony the owner of Bay Plumbing, Berkeley, CA is professional, reliable, efficient and fast. I had a clogged kitchen sink and called a couple of plumbers. Tony responded quickly, provided a quote, provided a time window, called when in route, used his own equipment to protect my floors, used shoe coverings, fixed the clog and cleaned up when he was finished. He answered all of my questions and was finished in about an hour. I would not hesitate to use his services again.

I needed a plumber to address some issues that popped up on a building inspection and it turned out that Tony is right around the corner from us.  So glad I called him!

We needed to remount our water heater, replace an ancient kitchen faucet, and diagnose a water leak that was occurring in our shower/bath.  Tony was able to pop over the next evening and provide a detailed and written estimate.  He was very thorough looking things over and honest about what needed to be done, and what could be put off until another day.

Both Tony and his crew were very professional and respectful, punctual, and kept us informed of any difficulties as they went along.  His prices are very fair and he was happy to take on a smaller job, unlike others we have talked to in the past.  Tony is now our go-to guy for any/all plumbing needs!

We feel very fortunate to be introduced to Tony, Bay Handyman Plumbing.  Tony helped us two plumbing problems, about 18 months apart.  One required that he install new faucets in a downstairs bathroom.  Since our current hardware in the bathroom is old, it was hard to find replacement parts.  However, he worked with us to help identify the right parts.  Perhaps I shouldn't say this, but he doesn't charge for all the time he works.  Anyway, we were very pleased with the installation of the faucets.

Our second problem was no hot water in a shower in a different bathroom.  He diagnosed the problem, went and got the part, and we now have hot water.

Tony is professional and reliable.  He also does not work strictly by the clock, which is a refreshing change from most plumbers these days.  I believe that our plumbing bills are lower for this reason.

We've worked with Tony on several plumbing projects, but this last one at our house was a doozy! He was persistent in finding the source of the problem and communicated with us every step of the way.  

He has always been reliable, honest and trustworthy. We highly recommend Tony and his crew.
