Rotot-Rooter charged us $450.00 for literally less than a minutes work. I know there is drive time and all that but they work and live here in the Valley so it wasn't a long road trip and they were able to schedule it the same day so thery weren't booked up. They parked, came in, with one hand tool, and fixed the problem in less than a minute. Yay for expertise but it's kind of like the difference between administering an asprin versus doing heart surery. I actually followed the worker into the house and he was done by the time I got to the bathroom he was working in. He and a trainee stood around and chatted for 20 or 30 minutes. Long enough for them to explain they didn't have the material they needed to clean the marks off the toilet bowl the Auger made, and what to look for at Home Depot so I could do it myself. Apparently their time is not that precious. So how it all started; I had accidentally flushed a metal protein shaker ball down the toilet and the home depot drain snake I used had a shape on the end of the coil that would not snag the metal spring ball. I get the whole idea of paying for expertise but $450.00 for literally a minutes work seems kind of high. I could have bought every concievable tool, a drain camera and taken plumbing classes at the community college and still paid less. Then the guy had the confidence to give me his name and number to work off the books and save me money next time. I guess since I feel like since they screwed me I shouldn't be surprised that he's going to pirate customers from his employer. On top of that, he had his trainee write his name and number down on the receipt and said it all in front of the trainee so appreantly it's ok with Roto-Rooter for employees to do that? Advise: Call around, get hard quotes for the work. Don't sign forms before the work is done, you agree to pay whatever they say. Don't trust the big name companies. The only address on the forms they left with me are in Chicago. Thats feels a little too big.
