Use caution and get a second opinion when dealing with this business!
I contacted Mr. Handyman of East Columbus, New Albany and Gahanna get an estimate to have a 10 square foot bathroom shower floor retiled. I was asked to send in a picture of the floor, which I did. Much to my shock, the estimate came back as a three-day job for $6,000 - $7,000!!!! I was told that they'd have to tear up the shower step-in, the tub underneath the tile and the subfloor. I said that I only wanted to have the tile redone and their response was that it was the same price as they were planning on having to rip out the subfloor (and all this from a picture!). I asked if they charged $1,500/hour and was told that they don't charge by the hour, they charge by the job.
I just had a professional tiler look at the shower floor, and he estimated the job at $250. Quite a difference! Just to be sure I was comparing apples to apples, I asked him about the tub underneath the tile as well as the subfloor. He said that there was no need to touch any of that and went on to say that there's a special glue that can be used to overlay the new tile on top of the old tile. The gentleman I am now dealing with has been a tile installer for 30+ years and comes highly recommended by several people I know. Care to guess who I'll be going with?
My entire exchange with Mr. Handyman of East Columbus, New Albany and Gahanna was done via texting, so I have a written copy of it all. I'm not sure what would possess someone to quote a job that is 2,400% - 2,800% higher than normal, but it only takes a couple of uninformed customers to make these ludicrous prices pay off.

I was quoted $350 to put in an outlet in a basement and this is reasonable. It's an open ceiling, and I have drilled most of the holes. Also, it's a new construction, so everything is straightforward.
However, somehow the electrician didn't have any electrical supplies on his truck and he took over an hour to get them when there are several places close by. Plus I had just put in an outlet a couple of days ago and even with a 20% markup on supplies it was outrageous more than what I paid at Ace Hardware and I got extra items. Therefore the bill came in at $500 for 3 1/2 hours of work & supplies, over 40% of what I was originally quoted. To top it off, he never took his boots off when coming in the house which every other contractor I've had has done so automatically.
No way I would recommend them at all.
