HISTORY


Established in 1924.
Herbert & Norman Woolley founded the company, moving from New York to New Jersey, providing coal, ice and wood to local homeowners. When the Depression hit, Herb and Norman used their horses to help dig out cellars for homes being built. They extended credit to families who needed it and in return their customers responded with an unfailing consumer loyalty. By the end of World War II, the company had more than doubled in size, and the name was changed to the Woolley Fuel Company. Norm's son, Norm Jr. joined his father and uncle in 1954 and in the 1990's, Norm E. Woolley entered the family business as the 3rd generation owner. In 2008 Woolley Fuel became the first Diesel Station in New Jersey to carry Biodiesel and as the oldest business in Maplewood, we continue to offer personal service to our customers.

We had an excellent experience with Woolley Home Solutions recently, and highly recommend them to anyone. We awoke to a freezing house on the morning snow was supposed to arrive. We called Woolley, and Art arrived promptly, repaired our boiler, and gave us a lot of helpful information about maintenance and care. I had a recent issue with my heating system.  I was able to get a same-day appointment. Ed P came out to the house and quickly diagnosed the problem.  Unfortunately, the part needed had to be overnighted, but within two days, my heat was working fine!  Thanks to Woolley and Ed P.

We've been using Woolley for more than 15 years and have always had great service, never feel ripped off and the guys have been great.  Ed helped us this time and he was on time, efficient and didn't try to sell me something we didn't need.  Good solid company and great guys who have been with them for a while.  We don't use oil anymore, but I use them to service my heat and A/C.  I trust them!

I called on Monday morning for  furnace service, I didn't get a call back until Wednesday 4:30. I missed Todd's call so I called right back (1min.)
and went to his voicemail. I left message Wed., Thurs and Friday but no return call. What horrible service. Don't bother here! I called Korn Plumbing today, Friday and they will be here tomorrow morning.
90 years? Of what, crappy customer service? Go elsewhere people.

Called about a backed up pipe in the basement that overflowed the shower and the toilet. Let them know exactly what they were walking into. Our nanny was here as we were working. Apparently he barely looked at it and said I can't handle this today. Then said their equipment to do this kind of job was broken. He then referred another service that was extremely helpful and fixed the problem that same day within an hour. So you get 2 stars for the referral.

Our heater went out the day before forecasts of frigid single degree weather. The previous owner used Woolley, but I had chosen not to buy Heating Oil from them earlier in the year as part of a contract that would lock me in for a year. My reason at the time was that their price was 20% above the area pricing, which they acknowledged at the time, but chose not to adjust.
When I called for service, I was told that since I did not have a fuel contract they would absolutely not send someone to fix the unit. I pointed out the weather conditions and the fact that this was a family home, but they steadfastly refused to service unless I had previously committed to the fuel contract.
The unit manufacturer was very upset (Energy Kinetics) as they said they do not support this policy in any way among their dealers. The manufacturer then referred me to another vendor that quickly had a repairman out and my house was soon warm again. I am in the process of contacting NJ Dept of Consumer Affairs regarding this incident.

Been using Woolley for a few years for heat and A/C service...

Very punctual, friendly, and I'd recommend it to anyone (especially if they live in Maplewood)

CUSTOMER BEWARE!!!! The service provided was okay. In my opinion the part prices are extremely overpriced. Wooley sold me a Beckett 7505 Primary Control part for $360. When I called the Beckett Corp. they said the suggested retail price is $115.16 for that part. After inflating the price more than 3 times Wooley offers a 15% discount. (Price was still $306) When I caught them their manager was willing to lower the price to $115.16. If you are a former Reel Strong customer from Cranford like me, BEWARE OF THIS PRICE GOUGING WHEN YOU NEED AN EMERGENCY REPAIR!!!!!

Norman Woolley and his crew Art and Ed came through. Incredibly accommodating and apologetic. Did a good job. Definitely ask for Art if you work with them, very good guy.

Horrible customer service. Did routine work on our boiler and furnace. On the same day the boiler started leaking and the furnace not working. The service manager argued it wasn't their fault. Tried to pin it on our nest system which has been working since it was installed. And told us we would have to pay for more service. Awful.

I feel the need to tell ppl that they will get the job done eventually they take forever to call you back and that always need something else that's gonna take another day but they do good work

Ed P. worked thoroughly to get our oil-powered burner back to tip-top shape, showing us the soot-covered exhaust pipe leading into the chimney and taking care to vacuum it out so that it vented properly. Very cool. Glad to know we won't freeze overnight for yet another winter!

Previous review from 2015: Ed arrived early and went right to work on our oil-fired boiler, which had stopped working sometime during the night. Apparently, the fuel line that feeds the oil into the combustion chamber had clogged. Ed was thorough, checking that each part of the boiler was working before putting everything back together and even vacuuming the bit of dust and rust that came off our crusty boiler. Best of all, it was included in our Gold Plan, as part of the annual boiler maintenance we had done. Thanks!

Horrible customer service. I call up with no contract to establish a contract and I'm told it will take a couple of days. Granted I'm having problems with my furnace and I need someone to look at it. These days nobody will service your oil furnace unless you have a contract with the oil provide...nice. Anyways, I am desperate with no heat in the house for a couple of days already since I lost it over the weekend. I call up and I'm told basically too bad, you can't just establish a contract to get your furnace serviced. Ha, if only they knew how much oil I go through every winter due to lack of insulation and bad radiators, they would be rolling in it. The real issue I have is the insensitive nature of these oil companies. So heartless...

I needed a plumber, and I'm always nervous about trying a new home or contracting service, but my neighbor recommended Woolley Home Solutions and said he had used their services for years. I couldn't be happier with the service. They were gracious and polite from start to finish. Peter came and efficiently assessed the problem. He also recommended finding a tile guy to help me with the shower problem that is not plumbing related.

I appreciated their fast and courteous service!

Art D. came out to do the yearly tune-up of the furnace.  As a new homeowner I was not sure what to expect.  He checked the system thoroughly and he was kind and courteous to explain to me the workings of the furnace.  He also tagged all components in case needed for an emergency.
