If you read the owner's respone, you'll notice that he did not deny a single thing I said. Not a single thing! Everything I said is true. Their prices are double...sometimes 5 times what they should be.
Russo Bros was the first company that I met that used this scam. It's funny but it's not illegal at all. Why not? Well, they didn't claim that the official-looking cost book that they brought out of the truck came from a independent 3rd party company. They simply brought the book out and YOU made the assumption that the book would be fair. YOU were the one too embarrassed to ask what the book was. (Don't feel bad, my wife was too.)
I'm actually starting to see other companies start using this same scam. And it works. I heard this guy brag to me that he charged $6k for a $2k job to this old lady who didn't know better. I just stared at a fellow American and wondered how he could do that. Business is not business. I've come to the realization that scamming people WILL make you more money but I don't think it's worth it. I don't think I could take the shame of looking at my face every morning. I genuinely don't understand how this owner does it.
I originally wrote a review that outlined the scam that Russo Bro perpetuates. (I'll retype my original review below so everyone can see what they do.) They have been doing it for a LONG time, perhaps decades. They had a 5 star review until I exposed them for what they are. And, then everyone looked at their past invoices and realized that they were indeed scammed and started writing bad reviews about them.
It's sad but OTHER businesses are starting to get in on this act too as they see how profitable this scam is. It's not illegal but it's still a scam. It's tricking you into believing the prices comes from some legitimate source when it doesn't. Please report their activity on Yelp or some other review source like Google. It's wrong.
Here is a summary of my original review that Yelp removed (which is probably illegal):
(Please notice that Yelp removed my original review that detailed their scam. I guess they paid Yelp off. Fortunately, it wasn't enough to remove this review. I'm sure if they remove this review, they would get sued by Consumer Affairs because everything I said was true and unbiased.)
My wife called Russo Brothers because they had 5 star reviews (at the time; nobody realized the scam that they were running and the tons of money they were making). They appear extremely professional. They will call you before the appointment. They will wear their little booties. And, when the job is over, they will take out this cost book that is supposed to some official book on plumbing prices. Where does this cost book come from? . It comes from a publishing company that sells these costs books that has plumbing prices that are LITERALLY twice, five, or even ten times more than any other company would charge. If you dispute the cost of a small faucet leak that costs $500, they will say that's what the cost book says, they can't do anything about it.
Previously, everyone just assumed that the official price book must be true and accurate because it comes from an official looking book. But, that is the scam. The book isn't published by some sort of Plumbing Association or a Plumbing Group that publishes fair prices. It's just a dressed up book that has EXTREMELY inflated prices.
Yes, they will call you before you before the appointment, they will wear their booties so your floors don't get dirty, and they will do the job correctly. But does that justify that the cost of the job is LITERALLY ten times what other plumbers charge? Hell no.
To the past customers of Russo Brothers, check your invoices. Look at the price and then check the price of another plumber who might have fixed something similar. Notice a difference? Yep, you'll notice a HUGE difference. They will take your hard-earned money with a smile.
