Argent Plumbing, Heating & Air Conditioning

Argent did a sewer inspection for me on an older home. Two other plumbing companies could not get the camera all the way through due to several turns the pipes make, they just gave up pushing and recommended digging out and replacing completely functioning and clean pipes. Argent's plumber worked hard and was able to get the camera to the end.

So I received my response from the BBB. It's amazing to me how Argent Plumbing & Heating spun their response to accommodate them overcharging & miss diagnosing the problem with the AC. My plumber friend is actually a retired Master Plumber who installed the unit. Nothing was rewired or jumped in order to get it working. It's a shame they need to lie in order to validate their mistake.
I would never recommend or use them. I'm posting the BBB response to me that they receive from the Owner of Argent. Pretty sad they needed my 250.00 & would manipulate the real truth.

I called Argent to service my customer's commercial air conditioner, that they had installed several years ago. I was advised that I would be put on hold to let me know when my customer would have a service technician come. When the receptionist come back to me, she me advised that they would not come to service to unit and to go on the web to find a another contractor, even though they did the installation. I also had them do some other work for my customer, so we were not a new account for them. The receptionist was rude and again advised me to look for someone on the web. I would not recommend Argent Plumbing & Heating to anyone.

Had Argent do a small plumbing project this summer.  Work was descent, had to correct a few issues, and price was on the higher end but fair.  

Called to have an estimate for some HVAC work.  Price seems much higher so asked for clarification (I.e. man hours, material list ect...)

Argent never replied to several emails.  Irony is we spoke at length about future projects such as new tankless, adding entire HVAC zone, new bath remodel.

Ironically their crew left an expensive tool at my house and I returned it to the office on my way to work to save them the trip.

Shame how poor their customer service is for a repeat customer trying to build a longterm relationship.  Do not recommend them as they do not value customers.

Argent Plumbing has performed work in my home and business over the past 10 years and I find them to be courteous and prompt in responding to my calls, whether for an emergency or scheduled work. From the time they arrive to when the job is finished they are always professional, knowledgeable and honest in their approach. I have used them for big and small jobs and have never had any issues I've been very satisfied with their work and would highly recommend them, they are truly best. They offer amazing customer service from scheduling an appointment to completion of the job! Professional, courteous, knowledgeable and easy to work with!

Having used them multiple times over the years, they're not the cheapest plumbing and hvac company, but they arrive quickly, don't try to up-sell and fix the problem properly and promptly. Being an engineer, when I have questioned the details around a component replacement, they actually explain, in verifiable detail, the what and why of their recommend course of action (meaning their people are actually trained and not just randomly swapping out logic boards and sensors, or trial & error recapping).

In my experience, in the sea of (criminally) terrible HVAC businesses in northern NJ, whose starting point is always to try selling whole new installations, Argent has proven honest and efficient.

I used Argent to change my piping in the basement and a faucet in the kitchen last summer - all very good. Around Thanksgiving 2022 I had a toilet leaking issue and called them a 3rd time. They decided I needed a new toilet.  They told me I should get a comfort height toilet - just over an inch higher than what we had.  I told them no less than 6 times I did not want a toilet where my 90-year-old mother cannot reach the floor with her feet.  No, no, it's only just over an inch higher they assured us.  After install, we discovered my mother cannot reach the floor and it turns out the new toilet was about 3 inches taller than our old one.  After much debate with the manager Nick (who is almost impossible to get hold off, numerous emails and phone calls later), we agreed on picking a new lower toilet - the deal is we pay for the toilet, and he install for free.  Today, 1/3/23, they returned with a new shorter toilet (great height) that has a mold/extruding defect in the rim.  The front of the rim is lower than the rest of the rim.  If you stand back, you can see, a very plain to the eye, drop in the front of the rim.  There is a large gap between the seat and the rim.  They changed the toilet seat, problem NOT resolved.  Then it was - your floor isn't level.  It's the same floor we had with the previous 2 toilets (1 her removed 20 minutes earlier) with no problem.  Nick called me by phone very nasty - now what the hell do you want? It's the toilet you wanted.  I explained there was a defect when they molded the toilet and we need a new toilet without a defect.  Things got heated.  Yelling exchanged.  He tells me he's going to take out the toilet and leave a hole in the floor.  So right now, the toilet is still here.  The front rim lower than the rest of the rim, like some pouring spout.  What we didn't get to in our discussion is the toilet tank is not level either, it sags to the right.  So far, over $1550 for the first toilet change out and another nearly $500 for today's defective toilet.  Two months ago, I would have highly recommended Argent.  After this experience and being yelled at by the manager - I strongly recommend you consider someone else.

Argent has the worst customer service
A no heat call is not one of their priorities they will put you on a list no matter what your problem is
Even after you have spend thousands of dollars to have a new heating unit installed through them
They miss diagnosis and never take responsibility for their mistakes
And their charges for a service are insane!

One of my AC condensers was blowing cool air, but not cold enough. MY HVAC guy retired so I needed somebody new. I tried Argent. HUGE MISTAKE. First, they never showed between 1-4 pm, and I had to call them. They said they would come the next day between 9AM and 11AM. By 12 noon I gave up and decided to forget about them. They showed up at 1:30 pm like it is normal not to update a customer when you are so delayed. I agreed to pay them $178 for the diagnostic.   This zone is a smaller u it which only covers the kitchen and family room.  They told me that I had 2 options. A new system for $10,000 or they would put refrigerant in the system , but they would not guarantee it would work. They wrote up an estimate. I almost passed out when I saw the price of $1,650 to add refrigerant. I asked them to leave. I called Trane/American Standard and told them I needed someone to service my AC. They recommended a local guy.  There was NO charge for the estimate. If I didn't want to do it, he would just leave. I know about Covid and supply chain issues, but I also know about price gouging. The new guy added 1.5 pounds of freon.  I paid him $419 because the refrigerant is now $200 lb, which confirms what I learned refrigerant costs today. I needed $300 worth. The rest was labor and tax.   I wish I had read these Argent reviews ahead of time. If you are foolish enough to use Argent then you deserve what you get.

Update; called the manufacturer and the issue was fixed in TWENTY MINUTES by their tech for FREE.  Argent quoted us for HOURS of labor and was going to charge well over $600. Do not trust this company.

An old house means old sewer lines and that caused us to find a backup of sewage in our utility sink in the basement. I called Argent and they were quick to respond. The guys scoped the line and found the problem. We needed to replace the line from house to curb.  From start to finish, the guys were knowledgeable, hard working, and friendly. While fixing the line, they saw a leak in our main water line and worked to fix that too.  Another potential disaster averted.  Both inside the house and outside, the men replaced and repaired with minimal damage. And when finished, they cleaned up completely.  I must really thank the folks that worked outside who were careful to replant shrubbery and rebrick the walkway.  I am truly impressed with how hard they worked. Like any repair one can only hope to never have to do it again.  But as to this experience, I highly recommend them.

There is a separate Argent Yelp listing for what seems to be the same business (links to the same website and same area) on South street in New Providence.  It seems to be the same place, but the reviews are much different.    

Anyway, I called them when I had a leaky faucet.   Their fee for just giving an estimate is the highest I have seen in the area, and, in my opinion, the amount the Argent plumber wanted to charge to complete what he said was going to take approximately 45 minutes was incredibly high.  I actually thought he was joking when he quoted me the price.  I felt immediately uncomfortable with him in my house and tried to get him to leave as soon as possible, but he of course wanted his $100 fee for the 3 minutes he spent confirming that my faucet was leaking.  I ended up getting the work done for less than half the price by another licensed professional who did a great job.  Please be careful.  I don't know if these guys are bad at what they do (I would never hire them so I will never find out), but, they seem extraordinarily expensive.

Had a clogged drain with bathtub full of water spewing out from kitchen sink. Called Argent and was advised of estimated ETA within an hour. Claud called within 10 minutes to confirm his arrival. Claud was extremely professional, pleasant and fixed the issue in no time. Would highly recommend Claud and Argent.

We had email confirmation of appointment from Argent to carry out plumbing repairs. needless to say they never arrived. on us contacting them we were told with no apology that they would come another day. Needless to say I had to take a day off from work to be home for this. in my view extreme poor work ethics. Would be cautious in hiring them for jobs

WORST SERVICE I HAVE EVER EXPERIENCED!
We had a gas leak and scheduled a cost estimate on the next day of the storm.
Then Argent started play their tricks.
We only had one place having gas leak for sure and another place might be a potential leak require further check. Argent directly said both piple need to be fixed for sure and the estimate would be more than $1400.
And when we wanted to see the cost estimate for fixing only one place. Argent told us EITHER FIX BOTH OR NOTHING!
OK, without any detection or inspection on whether the second place had gas leak for sure, Argent already told me I have to fix them all and pay them the amount way out your expectation. Argent was telling me what kind of service I can buy. Well played!!!
Then I paid them the unprofessional inspection or check for $99 and sent them out.
We have someone else fix the issue next day with $500 and after detail checking the second place DO NOT HAVE LEAK AT ALL.
AVOID THIS COMPANY! THEY ARE UNPROFESSIONAL,ARRAGANT AND MUCH MORE EXPENSIVE THAN THE OTHERS

Asked them to come out to address some corrosion on old plumbing pipes.  Agreed to the $100 non-refundable home visit charge (credit applicable to final bill).  The price that they quoted after having paid for the house call was absurd - I subsequently made one call to another reputable plumber who could do it for 70% less.  I can kiss that $100 good bye, but I guess that's the cost of my lesson to never use Argent again.

The BEST!! ALWAYS a great job. Neat and know what they are doing. Very knowledgeable and friendly. Shows up on time.

My 92-year-old father lost heat on a very cold night.  Argent Plumbing arrived the same day and told him it would cost  $15,000 to install a new boiler. The serviceman left without making any attempt to restart the boiler or do any repairs. As a result, the house was unheated for 24 hours. I called another plumber who came and inspected the boiler and concluded all that was needed was a new circulator for the porch. The other two circulators which heat the main house were fine. He restarted the boiler and heat returned to the main house. A repair to the porch circulator was done the next day. Argent plumbing intentionally left the boiler off putting my father's health at risk. I can only imagine they did this in order to compel the decision to buy a new boiler. This is  a fraudulent business practice on their part or at the very least unbelievably negligent. The fact that they offered to pay my plumber's bill is tantamount to an admission of guilt.

I had an AC & Heating unit replaced this week, the man at Argent Plumbing were very professional, courteous and efficient. The price was worth it. You get what you pay for! Thank you for the amazing service. - Sandy

Argent did an oil to gas conversion, and I could not have been more pleased.  The men were neat, clean and polite.  The job was clean and complete in one day.  What more could you ask?  They were also the best price that I got for the job.  I recommend wholeheartedly.
