A-1 Plumbing is an unethical business that overcharges its customers. I was referred to them to repair a leaky toilet water connection (from the water outlet on the wall to the toilet tank). Their repairman Roger decided to replace the fill valve inside the tank (which was unnecessary) in addition to the leaking external flex tubing. He charged $370.00, $185.00 for the fill valve (Lowe's price $18.48) and $185.00 for the 20 minutes of installation. Potential customers should be aware of this fraudulent business.

This guy(owner) screwed me over!  Charged me $255 for a bath tub spout that came apart 2 weeks later. When I ask him to replaced it with the correct spout or give me my money back, he wanted to know why? I told him because the job was not done correctly then he hung up on me. There was no remorse from him or showed consideration. I wonder how many women he takes advantage of!

This is by far the best plumbing service I have ever had do work fo me! Jay is truely a professional who cares about his work and cares about the people he serves. Never have I had such a positive experience in nearly 50 years' working with the building and construction industries. I beg your indulgence as I relate my story.
I was scheduled for serious spinal surgery in San Francisco on June 3, 2019.  Just before we left we had a sewer blockage for the third time in May, 2019. This time it could not be cleared. To my good fortune, another plumber recommended Jay McColl who had the equipment necessary to power through most obstacles. Jay came out to look at the project and give us an idea of the nature of the problem and what it might cost to make the repairs. Knowing that the sewer line was the original, as built in 1939, he explained several likely conditions and proceeded to take a closer look.  He advised us that the pipe had rusted through and partially collapsed. He explained several alternatives and recommended pipe replacement because of the visible damage. The project included replacing the existing sewer line (which ran under my concrete garage floor), removing the obstruction in the line and installing additional cleanouts per city code.  I authorized him to proceed as may be required and my wife and I left for San Francisco.
Jay got to work and secured permits from the city, arranged equipment and set up the project to move ahead on my return to Reno.  I had expected to be gone for a week with the surgery. Little did I know that my wife and I would be gone for seven weeks.  My wife took over in my absence and coordinated with Jay to get the work done.
Since my wife knows virtually nothing about construction Jay explained every step in a way she could understand and he helped her make the right decisions.  Shortly after commencing the work, Jay ran into a boulder the size of a large coffee table which had crushed the sewer. Being down seven feet below a concrete garage floor the only choice was cut the floor, excavate and remove the boulder. Jay contacted my wife and advised her of the nature of the problem and the fact that the obstacle was likely to be a granite boulder since even heavy equipment could not penetrate the obstruction. Jay advised there was no way around the obstacle and we authorized him to go ahead as necessary. He ended up cutting the concrete floor, excavating to the existing sewer line, verifying the obstacle was a huge granite boulder, and breaking the boulder into small pieces that could be hand carried out of the garage. Again, Jay provided photos as the work progressed. He ran into a second boulder outside the garage and had to repeat the process used (excavate, break up, and remove) excepting the removal of the concrete floor. He and his crew worked many hours and late into the night to finish the work before we returned from San Francisco.

All during the process, Jay and his crew treated us with respect and addressed every concern promptly and completely. When I returned from San Francisco I met with Jay to review the work that had been done and all of the photos he had provided during construction.
Bottom Line: He is the best in the region and I would hire him again in a heartbeat!

My neighbor had his sewer pipe collapse, and it runs through my yard, so I agreed to let these guys come into my yard to work on it. Not only did they have to kill 2 old growth lilac trees, but they tore up a huge part of my lawn with their backhoe, leaving tracks and torn up sod everywhere. Didn't bother trying to fix anything. Then they had to move a heavy 50 year old swingset with 6 guys. Did they move it back? Of course not. Leave it for an older couple to try to move. Very unprofessional company to say the least.

The guy who worked with me is named Jay. They were fantastic. Very professional. Excellent communication. Cleaned up the job site very well afterwards. I had my Orangeburg pipe replaced. They dug a hole in my basement and another hole by the sidewalk with an excavator. They put a tool through the holes to break up the old pipe, then put a new pipe through the hole and connected it on both ends. I preferred this solution to others I was quoted because it had more of a guarantee to not fail than the liners. They also installed a new clean out and a back flow preventer. Basically if the city line were to ever back up, my basement will never flood with sewage. Overall the price was extremely reasonable.

Best contractor experience ever! And I've had more than a few. Jay answered every phone call and email promptly. He actually listened to my questions and concerns and answered them appropriately, and I am female.  He never promised anything he didn't deliver. The employees were friendly and courteous.
The job was a large complex one, involving removing and replacing sewer and water lines for 3 contiguous houses. The entire job was orchestrated beautifully, started on time and completed in 5 days, in December. Yet I was never without any utility for more than a few hours. The City inspectors were happy.  I was happy. And oh yeah, the price was very competitive. I had quotes from 3 different contractors.

I knew when I bought my 70 year old house that the sewer line was ... sensitive. That compromises would have to be made for pipes well past their expiration date. But this year it became clear that it was time to call in the professionals to take care of a problem I had hoped to avoid - a complete replacement of the sewer line.

I was referred to A1 Plumbing, and from start to finish, they couldn't have been better to deal with. Their estimate was more than fair (and less than I had been dreading). The team arrived on time (a rarity these days). They excavated four deep holes with a care for the existing landscaping. They did the pipe bursting and connections (fascinating!). And then they put everything back together so well that it's hard to tell at first glance that they were even there. All of this they did in two days with me watching over their shoulders, asking questions about the process and taking pictures. They turned what could have been nothing more than a depressing necessity into a fascinating demonstration of skill and knowledge.

No one wants to have to replace a sewer line. But if you find yourself in that position, know that the people at A1 Plumbing are the ones to call, full stop.
