Horrible experience, tried to overcharge, lied and said I had a collapsed line when in reality they had a snake that was commercial size and couldn't make the bend going out. Then proceeded to charge me for not fixing the line, and tried to charge more for a camera inspection that I didn't need, and cancelled. Gave them some money just to leave my property and hopefully not steal my hubcaps. Hired a local company who came out and charged a fraction of what Roto wanted and actually did a great job in 45 minutes, shorter than the time Roto stood there screwing around with the wrong equipment getting nothing done. I will never call them ever again for anything, and sorry that my wife called them in the first place.

Wanted to give ROTTO-Rooter a thumbs up for hiring people like Justin #700.  He was early, educated, friendly and knowledgeable.  He efficiently found the problem.  Not the cheap one we were hoping for but the one we suspected we were looking at.  He called in our problem immediately.  They sent another person out who made arrangements to start work tomorrow.  During Justin's visit he managed to be quite professional while sharing parts of his life, a lovely wife and getting us to share interests with him.  A real people person as well as skilled at what he does.  Thanks to him we are happy (or at least sorta) at spending more money.

this is the worst company in history of mankind. i called them for the first time to do a job at my house. the guy come out and gave me quote and left. after a few days i called the company to have the guy come back to complete the job and i was told that guy was fired. they scheduled the another to come out and they guy come out and gave a me different quote that was $800 more  than what the other guy quoted me. asking why the quotes were so different the tech told me its because the fired tech did not know what doing. i called the office for clarification, the customer service was just as bad as the tech they had sent.  i will never use them.they wasted my time they are not professional in any way.

I have had mixed results in using Roto-Rooter for my plumbing needs.  While I do appreciate their customer service courtesy and the fact that they come when they say that they will, it often takes TWO service calls to resolve any plumbing or drain issue.

Many times this seems to happen because they do not listen well to your service request and simply send the wrong guy for the job.  Other times, they send someone too inexperienced to do the job correctly without supervision, and it has to be redone later by another technician.

My latest experience of this was when they sent a drain guy to solve my completed unrelated plumbing problem, resulting in having to have a different guy come the next day -- a huge waste of time for all of us.  I believe this wasted time is one of the reasons that their rates are so high.

Also, do not bother with coupons for these folks, as they will always find a way to say that they can't apply them or to raise the price so that you are paying the same amount, anyway.

They DO stand by their work, and eventually, they WILL get your problem fixed, but it may take more time and expense than you expect.

Main drain needed cleaning, called Roto Rooter Thursday evening was told at 7:40pm plumber could not come until between 11pm and 3 am, then got another call after 9pm advising they can't come tonight; truck broke down; (seriously?  only 1 truck for Roto Rooter?) then told they would come first thing in the morning; got another call at 7:19am advising the plumber was on his way; 8:25 am I called back asking of whereabouts of plumber on his way?  8:35 am, Drew (plumber) calls stating he is on his way then asks if I'm familiar with the pricing for Commercial calls?  I advised this was a residential property, not commercial.  He advised that since I didn't live at the house they considered it a commercial response and wanted to charge $379 to open the main drain?  Don't think so.  No more calls to Roto Rooter from me.

This was my first time using Roto Rooter. I am complete appalled by the service I have recieved. It is completely unprofessional and greatly inconvenient to wait for a service for over 20 hours when you are given a time frame that is not near that long. I placed my service call October first and my call time was 5:35pm. I explained to them I needed to unclog the drain in our basement as it was backing up. I also asked how much for the services which they told me it wasn't a flat rate and it needed to be assessed. I recieved a confirmation email stating that I would have a technician out between 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm. After waiting for hours I recieved a call back stating they were over 2 hours behind, but it wasn't a guarantee that I would get someone out by midnight. I opted out of that and told them I would rather have someone first thing in the morning being that I have a 5 month old that was asleep. At this time the women on the phone promised I would be priority in the morning because of the inconvenience. The time she told me now was in between 8:00 a.m and 11:00 a.m. At this point it has been over 12 hours since I placed the call the previous day. We could not run any water because it will back up and cause further damage to the basement. I called once to get a general time I could expect someone in which they stated I was next in line. I recieved a call again stating that I would have a technician out within 15 to 20 minutes. 40 minutes later I had to call back again because there is still no sign of anyone. They again tell me that I have to wait. By this time it has yet again passed the time they have given me. it is my personal opinion that they did not want me to use another company so they were going to tell me what I wanted to hear in order to keep my business. This is NOT ok. I have been completely inconvenienced by this whole situation because this company wanted to make a buck. When the technician finally arrived he said that in fact it WAS a flat rate which originally I had been told wasn't the case. If I had know that I would have called around to other services and by how long this was taking would have indeed gone elsewhere. It is not good customer service to lie and deceive to ensure you get a check at the end of the process. I consider myself a patient person, but this has been beyond ridiculous. This has been a horrible experience and with no other past experiences to sway my decision, quite frankly, my last.

I called for a simple drain clog.  They told me they'd be there same day at 3 pm.  Then called back and said 4.  Then 5:30.  Then the next day between 9 and 12.  Then called and said they'd be there at 11:30.  Then finally showed up at 12:30.  When I called to ask if they were ever showing up, they said they'd give me a discount.
When the guy arrived, he was very unprofessional.  Didn't put his booties on for the carpet.  Reeked of cigarettes.  Stood VERY close and kept getting closer as I backed up.  Kept telling me about plumbing code and how the mayor's friend cheated and home inspections or whatever.  The whole time NOT LOOKING AT ANY PLUMBING! Just talking! Finally he said he didn't have any equipment on his truck and he'd send someone out! Then quoted me an approx $500 price (for a clog!) and when I asked about the discount he offered to take $10 off.
I recommend Razor Rooter in Kansas City instead!! Super nice, about half the price of a normal Roto Rooter call and were at my house within 3 hours!

Reached out to get services, and explained that I oversee and Isl with clients with special needs and disabilities. With that being said I was ensured that they'd be able to accompany me in my request for immediate service.  I reached out to them at 6:55pm the hour is now 9:31p and just recently nit 5 mins ago they stated unfortunately they would not be able to service me this evening , and wouldn't be available until 11a-3p.  I was very displeased with the assurance they would assist as needed because if the clients I serve .

Called on a Sunday afternoon, had someone there in 1 hour to unclog my main line. Talked to me about the costs before doing anything, wore booties on his shoes to keep my floors clean, had to remove a toilet to get to the clog and did so with no mess or damage. Very impressed with the service.

I had them come out for a sewage backup and to clear the line. Turned out I needed to have a city inspector come out and meet with my tech from Roto Rooter. I have had 3 appointments with the city inspector and Roto Rooter to meet to get my issue resolved and Roto Rooter has failed to show up and each time and didn't even give me a heads up they wouldn't be able to make it. The city inspector has waited outside my home 3 times now for an hour waiting for them to show up. What makes it worse is I have already paid for their service so now I'm stuck with them... definitely don't pay until they have done EVERYTHING they say they will do. Customer service has for the most part been incredibly rude and not at all remorseful for no showing. I never post reviews, but this by far has been my worst customer experience I've ever had.

Called last night to have someone come out to have our drain snaked and we were told someone would be out within 4 hours. We asked for a quote and we were told we would be provided one when they came to our home (spoiler alert: never received a quote). They then called us back and said someone couldn't be out until tomorrow morning (today). They told us someone would be by between 8:00 am - 10:00 am. Called when no one showed up by 10:30. Told us someone would be by and they had someone in the area. Eventually had someone show up at 11:45. Never gave us a quote. They were done in less than 30 minutes and charged us $390 for a snaked kitchen line. We were quoted $79 by a local plumber and $99 by Bob Hamilton and assumed the price would be in this ballpark. We absolutely feel scammed and ripped off and would never recommend using Roto-Rooter for any of your plumbing needs. We will be sending a complaint to the better business bureau and leaving reviews elsewhere so other people are not ripped off like we were.

I called Roto Rooter because they give free estimates and other companies charge you to come out for an estimate.  I needed a pressure regulator valve replaced. The guy quoted me a price of $1,000 right off the bat. When I told him from what I read, that was double the cost of what it normally costs, he told me that labor was $500.  Then he told me the part was $150  and that they typically quote on the higher side.  So the total cost went down from $1,000 to $650 which still seemed high to me (just to replace a small part).  I told him I wanted to get another estimate, but again I couldn't find a company that  would provide a free estimate. So I called them again to have them do the work. I figure I would just bite the bullet. However, the second guy came out, told me the part I wanted fixed was a flat rate and told me he would go out to his vehicle to see what that flat was. But when he returned, he told me the price would be $780 dollar!! I figured he must have saw the notes from the previous guy who quoted $500 for labor.  I then told him I had an estimate of $650.  He then proceeded to tell me that he would take off $100 and try to get it to $650. I told him I needed it to be $650 and he said he could try to get it to that price. Which was strange, as I had already been told how much it would cost ($650).  Then I told him I had a $75 coupon and he replied that was already included (what??... this was the first time I even mentioned a coupon)
How can anyone trust a company like this??  I still have no idea what a good price for this would be and not wanting to pay an $80 service fee on top of something that could potentially be $650+ from another company didn't seem like a good idea. I still feel like I'm being overcharged based on what I have read on-line but what can I do??.  I don't think I would recommend Roto-Rooter due to their deceptive pricing practices. They send over these young plumbers in training who seem more interested in making a profit at your expense than quoting a fair price. My advice would be to go with another company that you can trust.

I called yesterday for a clogged kitchen sink at about 3 pm. I was told the plumber would be at my house within 2 hours. 2 and a half hours later they called to tell me the plumber would be at my house within the next 2  hours. at about 8 pm I was called again to inform me the plumber would be at my house within the next 2 hours. I told the customer service agent on the phone that it is getting late and it would be better if they came by in the morning. The customer service agent said his first available appointment would be between 9-11 am. I said that sounds fine. I waited from 9-11 and did not receive an calls for any updates on my service. I called and asked where the plumber was that was supposed to be at my house from 9-11. I was informed that the plumber would be at my house within the next 2 hours. The agent on the phone repeatedly lied to me telling me 2 hours. I understand being backed up, but I don't appreciate being lied to, or having my time wasted. Would not recommend if you are looking for honest time estimates.

Plumber was knowledgeable and professional. Was charged $450 for a valve and recovery tank. My grievance was the first scheduled appoint they gave me a two hour window from 9-11. They called me at 10:50 and said plumber was in way. At 12:09 I canceled as no one showed. When I called to cancel and no remorse. Begrudgingly, I rescheduled next day. Overall I'm glad it fixed. Seemed expensive for what was wrong, and cost me two half days off work. Filled out survey and some bum called and half assed apologized. Made it worse in my opinion.

If I could give less stars, I would. Our water pressure began to get worse and worse. Called our city utilityman to check and he said there was no leak, but we need to replace our PRV(Pressure Regulator Valve) He said it would be an easy fix and we could do it ourselves. It looked tricky so we called Roto Rooter for second opinion before we attempted to fix ourselves. They tried to charge us $650 to change PRV. Then went on to say we did in fact have a water pipe leak and said it could be between $5,000-$20,000! My husband talked to his dad and he told us how to check for leak ourselves(we are new homeowners) and there was no leak!! We think they loosened our water to look like we had a leak! Then my husband and his dad changed out the PRV for $85 in less than an hour! Boom, fixed! So, they lied to us, made us think we couldn't fix on our own bc we didn't have $3,000 tools, and tried to charge 6-7 times the cost of part to fix. Also, as we were talking I realized we had an AB May warranty and they said they wouldn't help us at all and tried to talk us out of going to them. VERY unhappy with the way they treated us.

Their schedulers are not good. They clearly have too much on their plate. In this instance the scheduler takes all the information (every detail) but somehow doesn't confirm the details at the end of it all. I call at the end of an arrival window (always 4 hours don't believe if they provide you a smaller window it's a lie), only to find out that they not only had the wrong address but they scheduled the emergency same day service request call for the next day after promising same day service without letting me know.

Terrible work on just the scheduling part. I'm still going through with it because I must.  I'll update after the results of that. If you need immediate emergency plumbing service my recommendation is to go with another company.

Feces were backing out of drains in the bathroom. I needed a plumber last night desperately. I called Roto Rooter only after my go to guy was tied up. I'm getting one next day at some time between now and noon despite receiving a same day service verbal promise.

TLDR: Don't use Roto Rooter if you require same day emergency service.

I would give no star if i could, they canceled my appoinment twice, this is for a commercial business service, they advertise clearly on the website that they do backflow prevention service, that why I called them. After 2 cancel appointments with no call, they told me they no longer do backflow prevention. They have wasted 2 days of my time.  Thanks Roto Rooter of KC! Horrible experience.

I've been calling since Last tuesday About my frozen pipes. Had many appointment scheduled that has consistently been pushed to the next day. now that it's been 6 days, without water.  they stopped calling me and telling Me updates. What kind of business does that during a pandemic. Just tell me to contact another business and stop saying it takes 3-2 days to get someone I've waited almost a week and still no one is giving me updates!!

I would give 0 stars for the Kansas City office, if I could.  They sure take advantage of the elderly!!
Many no- show & bill for the most ridiculous reasons. It took over a month to clear out a bathroom clog after tearing out the entire main bathroom in my parents home. Told my father they would be back & not show for days...until I call & complain. Took many calls to get to the correct person....each department has no idea what the others do, within the company & no one is at the office after 3:30. It shows on their website, no extra charge for weekends, but they do charge overtime for weekends & after 5...even if they were not there.  They claim that things were done on the bill, yet never discussed prior. The bill was ridiculous. Would never use them again.

We used to roto-rooter today because of a sewage back up in our basement. We live in the liberty area. They showed up within the 2 hour window, gave us a good faith estimate, and finished the work within an hour. I told them about a coupon I found online and they honored it. The technician was friendly and to the point. No complaints here.

I am so disappointed with Roto Rooter, they have always been the drain service I have used in the past. But today I needed my basement drain snaked and the service man came out and informed me that unless I removed the built in shelves above where the main drain is snaked, he couldn't do any work. Seems as though now they need 6 feet all around in order for them to work. There is 3 feet or so above and 4 or more around the area. So I just wasted my time waiting for him to come only to tell me that he could not do the work. He just stood there when I told him I wasn't removing the built ins and he said I could hire someone to tear it down and he would come back. I told him Roto Rooter had just lost a customer as they should have informed me of their new rules so I could find someone else. Good bye Roto Rooter. You do not care about the customers time and distress!!

Kitchen sink stopped draining. Liquid plumber, plunger and clearing the p-trap didn't work. Scheduled a two hour window appointment same day. Received text to confirm appointment window shortly after and another to confirm Chris was 30-45 min out. He was on time. Confirmed starting cost and once resolved, explained issue. Super professional and clean (especially for a dirty process.) Will use going forward.

This has been a terrible experience with Roto-Rooter.  I had service three days prior and have yet to be given a receipt or an invoice, for having a kitchen drain that was stopped up.  The technician did not show up at the agreed time, I had to call back, because they decided to skip my appointment because they messed up the call back number.  Once there he asked my credit card number number before the work was performed??  Once he finished he did not inform me of what was done, or the cost (I was in another city at the time) as I had asked when he requested my cc #.  I usually receive something in my email when I have services performed at my house, but it has taken 4 hours on the phone to reach someone who could tell me how much it cost, and speculate on what was done.

If I could give zero stars, I would. Rarely have I gone out of my way to write a negative review. Where to start?

Our faucet was leaking under the cabinets below the sink. I already knew it was probably just a matter of repairing or replacing the sprayer hose, but wanted a professional's perspective to be sure.

They told me someone would come out at 2 p.m. and that they'd text me when the plumber was 30 minutes away. Come 3 o'clock, nobody shows. Around 3:30, I get a knock at my door. A man is standing there wearing Roto Rooter attire. I said, weren't they going to text me? He explains that he is not the plumber, but the area supervisor. Mind you, I am a woman and was alone in my home. Forgive me for being skeptical and feeling very much on my guard given the kinds of schemes people are up to these days. I felt deeply uncomfortable and downright scared given that he had shown up in an unmarked car, no company logo, etc.

He comes into my home and takes pictures of my sink, and the area around it, then tried to convince me to pay extra for drying out where the water had come through??? Hilarious. There was not THAT much water. He doesn't even really explain himself as to why he is here, except that he is not the plumber. So I'm understanding that he's here to assess the situation and coach the plumber on how much to charge me, all the while looking for little extra things to upcharge me on. Absolutely unacceptable.

The plumber doesn't show up until 5:30 p.m., 3 and a half hours late, seemingly stoned, with an IDGAF attitude. He looks at my faucet for about 5 minutes, confirms what I already knew to be true (it's a matter of replacing the sprayer hose which has cracked) and proceeds to tell me that it's going to be THREE HUNDRED DOLLARS plus parts. I already know these parts are $15-$20 on Amazon/Lowe's/Home Depot. Needless to say, I declined the offer and found the part myself. We will be replacing it on our own, and saved $300.

If the price hadn't been highway robbery, and the service hadn't been awful, I would have had the professional do the repair. This quote, however, did not sit right with me.

Long story short, trash company with trash employees. I will never call them again.

Seems as if the camera roto rooter lost in my drain 5 years ago and supposedly removed magically resurfaced today . Roto rooters camera caused a blockage that flooded my basement . Had to call a competent company to come snake the drain , and lo and behold , the missing camera ! Thanks roto rooter , we paid you to screw up our house , now it cost me twice ! Guess this is what you get when you call the McDonald of the plumbing world ..... Local family owned companies from here on out for us ...

Update : after speaking with the corporate office I did get Roto rooter to refund the original service price, plus what it cost me to have the camera removed from the drain. Although I did not receive compensation for the damaged items in my basement I feel that they did make an acceptable Olive branch to reach out with.

I was very impressed with my Roto-Rooter experience.  When I woke up this morning and realized my toilet wasn't flushing, I was frustrated.  But, we called Roto-Rooter to come out and fix it.  They told us that they would be here between 3 and 6, but my technician showed up on the early end of that range, which is always appreciated.

Keith, the technician, was awesome.  He explained to me the cause and solution of the problem.  He told me that it would take 30-45 minutes, but I think it was only 20ish minutes before my toilet was good as new!  And, he gave my cats some attention, too.  I am super-impressed and will definitely keep Roto-Rooter in mind for my next plumbing need!

Don't bother making an appointment ahead of time with this company. They won't bother to show up and they won't bother to contact you to as to when or if they will show up. Then, after a couple of days, they will automatically cancel your service call. All without ever picking up the phone to see if you still want or need their service!
There are other companies out there who do good work and who care about their customers, but this isn't one of them!!!

Steer clear. NON EMERGENCY SINK CLOG. Took 30 min. No special parts or tools. Cost a whopping $325. That is $650 per hour. I gave a Google review and you get a canned response from a Pat Swanson at Roto Rooter. I feel much better now Pat Swanson is hot on the case. I did not even get the $40 off. Also no reciept after one week? They said they would email it? I have asked twice. They will grossly over charge. This is not the $99 drain cleaning company? Its like ordering a hamburger and getting a $35 bill. Steer clear!

Terrible customer service. I called at 10am. The dispatch said someone would be out between noon-4. At 3:30 dispatch called and said they'd be a little late and not arrive before 4. Then they called at 5:00 and said someone would be there within half an hour. At 6 I called them back because no one had arrived. They told me I was on the schedule for 5-9pm and no one was available to come right now. I was confused and told them that I had been waiting since noon for someone and they said that was unfortunate but no one was available. So, don't call them unless you have an entire day to sit around waiting for them to arrive.

1 star or less if I could. Extremely over charged!  Main line sewer clean out  and camera inspection $1200.  Prices  from $9200 to use some special tool to scrape out build up and clean other lines to $10,000 to replace pvc pipe under basement and then $5900 to run a new pipe to the end of my property for outside clean out.  The last price was negotiable by $2000 in a few seconds and thats when it hit me these guys are crooks!!!  Hire local, I didn't because I had sewer and didn't think they could respond as quick, I was wrong.

I tried to make an appointment online which did not work. I ended up calling them instead they are very professional.  I told them specifically what was wrong.  They sent out a technician who did not have the part nor did they have the expertise to do the job. To just go get the part is $75 and labor was going to be $350. It did not sound reasonable to me.

I took a peek at their price list.  Outrageous!! I will never contact them again, ever.

The only saving grace, they were on time, even on a snowy afternoon and they did not charge me anything.

I needed a simple line cleared and called Saturday late afternoon.  They offered same day service but I wasn't in a hurry and so they offered 8am the following day.  They won't quote cost(s) over the phone whatsoever but state that their tech will assess the situation at no cost.  At 8:30am I called to be sure that they intended to send a tech and was given a revised 8-12p time-frame.  At 8:45a a knock at my door was a Roto Rooter Field Supervisor who seemed confused.  I quickly realized that he was there to lay the ground-work for the Roto-Rooter scam....but he could see that my needs were only for a line clearing....he left...and I scratched my head.  The tech arrived at 1:30pm. I had everything ready for the tech and provided easy/quick access to the clogged line....the tech didn't even need to unscrew a single cap.  The line cleared quickly and easily, however, the tech spent the entire time discussing what he was 'feeling' through the cable...instilling fear....suggesting that his supervisor would come later to quote me on repairing my underground pipes.  I told him that the office had already inadvertently sent the field supervisor earlier in the morning....and to please snake the line....and not to bother with any additional 'supervisors' or prospective 'quotes'.  The charges for a simple line snake job ended up being nearly $400.  Roto-Rooter's entire corporate mantra is to delay the customer into desperation, over-charge for services, instill fear in the customer's mind, and then scam consumers out of as much money and in as many ways as possible.  They are sending field supervisors out (un-marked vehicle) for a full on tag-team style scam.
WAIT AND HIRE A LOCAL COMPANY TO CLEAR YOUR BLOCKED LINE.  Roto Rooter should be ashamed of themselves.  I should say that both the Supervisor and the tech were seemingly decent individuals.....but acting as co-conspirators for their bosses apparent wide-spread corporate scam(s) nonetheless.
The problem was that the Supervisor and the Tech are CLEARLY instructed by corporate to instill fear in the customer's mind and lay the ground-work for a 'supervisor's visit' whether there is any reason for such a visit or not.  A simple line blockage clearing is their way in to your home where they then run both (a) the charge as much as possible scam and (b) instill fear so that we can come back out and charge for as many potentially unnecessary repairs as possible.
It was pure insanity.  I don't review often.....but I will move heaven and earth to let AS MANY PEOPLE AS POSSIBLE know what Roto-Rooter is doing.

I can't speak for their services because they couldn't even manage to get a technician out to my house.

I called a Thursday evening about getting an odd smell checked out in my cleanout drain in the basement.  The dispatcher said they could get someone out the next day (Friday) between 4:00 and 6:00 PM.  They called at 5 PM saying they were running late.  They called again at 6 PM saying they were still running late.  They called again at 8 PM and said that they were not going to send someone out that late only for a smell and nothing actually backing up.

They said they would reschedule me the next day (Saturday) between 12 and 3 PM.  I got a call at 1 PM saying that they would be there within the hour.  At 7:30 PM during dinner, I got a call saying they were running late and were sorry for my wait.  I told them to cancel my order because they were supposed to be there 4 hours ago and never even called to update me.

The dispatcher apologized and offered me a discount if I rescheduled the next day.

So, silly as I was, said ok and rescheduled for the next day (Sunday).

The dispatcher said because I was put off twice already, she would make me a priority case and I would be the first stop on the list.  I told them they had to come before 12:00 PM, or I was done.  The lady said she would have an appointment between 10:00 AM and 12:00 PM and someone would absolutely be there.

Here we are at 5:15 PM and I just got a call saying that they were running late and someone wouldn't be here until TEN O'CLOCK TONIGHT.

I finally cancelled, but I can't get those many hours back that I made sure I was home for them to not show up.

It's a shame I can't rate them lower.

I called Roto Rooter at noon on a Saturday and had someone at my house by 1:00 p.m.  The service technician was professional, courteous, fast and friendly.  I had to have my main line cleared.  The technician showed me a large amount of tree roots that he pulled from the drain.  I now have a 6 month guarantee on the work done today.

I used Roto Rooter to clear a drain. Brandon (#506-3523) was very friendly and helpful. I also like that I have a garentee for that drain for 6months. I highly reccomend using Roto Rooter.

We woke up to find standing water in our basement. I was given a 3-hour window when I called, but the technicians arrived within 45 minutes of my call. They showed up and fixed the problem and I was able to get on with my day. The technicians were friendly and professional. This is the second time we have used them for drain issues in our old house and we will definitely use them again should we have any more plumbing issues.

We just had a great experience with Roto Rooter at our home in Central KC.  We have an old guttering system that uses underground drains and needed them cleaned out and checked for leaks/issues.  Our tech, R'Cittio, was fantastic.  He explained everything in detail, worked quickly and gave us some really good insight on the structure of our old system.  He used a jetting system to flush out the drains to the street and cleaned up every bit of the sidewalks and the areas around the drain to ensure no standing water/risk of icing.  I thought the price was reasonable for the work done and would absolutely use Roto-Rooter again, and would likely request the same tech.

We initially booked a plumber to come out between 3pm and 7pm yesterday. I left work early and cancelled plans for the afternoon to be home for this service. At 3:30pm, their water guy showed up at our home. We DID NOT report flooding, we DID NOT ask for a water guy. He said he would take some pictures of our shower head and build a report for the plumber. Then, he said that the  plumber would be here by 7 pm. The water guy suggested that we may need to take down our bathroom walls and replace the tile. This was after just glancing at our bathroom, not even touching anything.

We waited until 7 for the plumber and nobody showed up. We finally called and they said that he was taking longer than expected and we rescheduled for the next day. So much for waiting, we still couldn't shower. The plumber finally showed up the next day at 6 pm. He had no clue about our problem because the water guy's report apparently did not show up in their system. The plumber went in our bathroom with his dirty boots and stepped all over our brand new rugs which I found to be disrespectful. He also wiped his hands all over our towels, and his hands were also very dirty. This is very unprofessional!

The plumber said that it would cost $250 for the first hour and he assured the problem would be fixed within that hour, we said okay. He started working on it and fixed the issue within the first 5 minutes. We thought that was not reasonable and asked for a better price. We argued about the price, and finally after about 40 mins (mostly because it was hard to get a hold of his manager), he lowered our price to $100.

A reputable business who values their clients would have done what he did (taking off shower head and showing me how dirty it was) as a complimentary service for making us wait 4 hours yesterday. Btw, he had no idea that the water guy came to make a report. We are unhappy with the service and ripped off.

Update from my July review. My experience was beyond horrible. This continues. I was contacted by  a local manager (Kansas City) after he read my yelp review. Trust me when I say, I contacted ALL THE NUMBERS to let them know the price I was charge was not ok, I had waited all day for a tech that literally couldn't fix a garbage disposal or a shower handle (he couldn't figure out how to get the handle off) and beyond rude customer service from everyone on all the phone lines...and I was repeatedly told I would be contacted by all the people...never happened. TO THIS DAY, it still hasn't happened! To his credit, the manager CONTACTED ME and said I was owed some money back ( like $180) and the check would be mailed, it would take 6-8 weeks for the check to show up, I'm in the 2% of mess ups that this company makes. This isn't how they do business etc....WELL GUESS WHAT!?? Still. No. Check. I called customer service after about 15 weeks (that should have been enough time, right!??) and they would have someone contract me. Nope. Same story. Zero returned phone calls. So I called again, after another 2 weeks. Some how, I ended up with a person from accounting?? He found no record of this check ever even being submitted to him for me to be reimbursed. He was going to look into it and get back to me the very next day. Well, that was 2-3 weeks ago. Guess who still hasn't received her check, let alone a phone call? Yep. You will be overcharged and repeatedly lied to if you choose root rooter.

Rude/Poor customer service and no show plumber. After being told they were  in route twice.

I  made a appointment online. For between the hrs of 4-6pm. Online Confirmation email stated I would be called before my appointment telling me they were in route to my home. At 3:40pm they called me. She said they dispatched a plumber to my house and they were  in route to my house should be there in a hr..  I Said okay thank you see them soon. Well it's had be over a hour and half. It's now 5:45 so I decided to call the number back. I received the same dispatcher that called me. She says hello I say hello. I then proceed to ask if they were still coming to my house. She the said Ya Ok! (Click) this dispatcher just hung up on me! At this point I am a bit mad as I was going to ask for a time estimate as it was getting late. Now it is 6:00 I have decide they are not coming to my house so I go on about my evening. I sit down to eat my dinner at 7:00pm when I see I am getting a phone call from roto rooter so I answer. It The same dispatcher. She says hello is this Nina i said yes. She then says I have a crew on there way. Oh wait I mean there running late.  I the proceed to say I figured they were running late as my appointment was between hours of four and six and it is after 6 PM. I also figured they were not going to show when you hung up on me. I said I know longer want your service goodbye.

We had that horrible rain last night and I called Roto-Rooter at 5:10pm as an outside drain was clogged. I explained that it was filing up very quickly and was leaking into my basement. The man I spoke with said no problem we will send someone out in about an hour. At 6:33pm I get a call back from a female and says she is sorry but THEY have to CANCEL the appointment due to not having any technicians in my area. Serious?? Why did you make me wait and hour and twenty minutes I could have been trying another plumber!!! So I called Quality Plumbing Inc. out of NKC and their plumber JP was here quick and was super friendly. He found some roots in the pipe and took care of the drain issue. He knew I was worried about flooding and was here even when the news said a lot of roads were flooded. Nice to know their are still good people out there. I will NEVER use Roto-Rooter again!!!! They didn't care that my entire basement was at risk of flooding. If you want good service at a really good price call Quality Plumbing!! 816-472-4994.

My experience with Roto-Rooter began with a house purchased in an older area of Kansas City. We were having main line issues - backing up so bad that we were getting water in the basement. We called Roto-Rooter because of their quick turnaround times, which I will say were quite impressive.

The first technician was great. He was super friendly, willing to walk me through the process and honest about everything. After the first servicing we began having issues again. The same technician came out (still friendly) and helped release the blockage. We then had the Roto-Rooter camera inspector come out. This is where our entire experience began to fall apart.

The camera inspector went in and didn't find anything blocking the outside of the house. He then tried to go through the pipe up into the house, but hit a couple snags and literally gave up - stating that there must be a collapse in a pipe or joint under the basement. He put together an estimate to replace an entire pipe length of 20-25 feet in the basement, which resulted in a fairly expensive proposal.

Trusting my gut, I went and called on an independent plumber who did a similar inspection with a camera. He easily located what was causing the blockage - a BRIGHT ORANGE drain stopper that had somehow been dropped down the drain at some point during previous ownership. Unfortunately, they still had to dig up the pipe, but it was only 3 feet.

I'm still astonished by the lack of attention given to the problem, and the immediate let's dig and cut approach after the camera inspection. Unbelievable.

Pretty much not happy. I had an emergency and didn't have time to call anyone else. The first guy was pleasant and other then the price being almost a 100 dollars more then my second opinion. I was just relieved to have my pipes cleared again. There was a coupon on the site for 60 bucks but i was not even the chance to use that.  But other then the high price the first guy does not bother me.

HOWEVER, i was offered a free camera check so another tech came out and checked. Here is where i am upset. I was not given an estimate or a invoice for this deal. The gentleman claimed we had a sag and needed to get it repaired asap. Claimed it was about 56 feet out and we needed to look into the repairs, started in on the price of 8 to 10k and started on the financing parts of it. Now, i didnt see the sag, no one in the home was shown video or anything. There was no paper no video etc, just quotes verbally and out the door. Frustrated and paniced i called another plumber.

Our second opinion came in showed the video and said there was no damage worth digging out and doing that repair we were quoted. Just quoted general maintenance and and idea of where the minor sag was but said it was small enough with correct care this was not an urgencey and gave us a proper quote if we wanted to look into it in later YEARS.

I won't be calling back. I am sorely disappointed with the price for the original clear out. Then the lack of evidence, and the immediate push for financing. It seemed to take advantage of the fact it was emergency situation where I could not shop due to children in the home. But now Ive learned. I can get it done for 240 somewhere else with more honesty.

Replaced a small section of pipe and elbow coming from a sink to a main drain line. The pipe was old and sediment blocked about 50%. I was in the middle of a bathroom remodel and didn't know what to do but everything was very accessible. No drywall cutting needed. The service guy ended up cutting the pipe, installing an coupling, and the end that connects to the sink drain pipes.

The service rep, Nick, was friendly, honest, and got the job done. Came out and assessed the situation for free. It took him about 20 minutes and cost $198. Pretty pricey but I learned what to do and other plumbers were charging about the same.

I recommend Roto-Rooter

Booked 24hrs prior to needing service for a clogged floor drain. Given 12-4pm time slot the following day. Gave two valid contact numbers and verified. Supervisor came to consult on site day of. 1525hrs, called back location due to missed call, as the kstate game is on. Upon returning the call, However, CSR stated the second contact number said they weren't requesting service and cancelled service call. I'm the second contact, there are no missed calls. I should have looked at the Yelp reviews, as this is the lowest rated Roto Rooter in the vicinity. FYI, the primary contact stated The main contact number for the location comes up in caller ID as a BMW dealership, thus not picking up the call. CSR wasn't willing to resolve the situation, thus, the review.

Our basement drain overflowed and seeped water into the finished areas. The guys at Roto Rooter including Anthony, Dan B, and all the friendly staff who called to check on us and provide updates, including the manager, were absolutely phenomenal. Couldn't be more impressed with the professionalism and ability of Kenny, my Roto Rooter rep today in Kansas City (I live in Mission). He was well-dressed, very polite, knowledgeable, and took the time to explain to me what could be the issue.

He never tried to oversell, and when we decided on a course of action, he worked quickly to complete the task. He was mindful of our personal items that were close to his work area and cleaned up after he was finished.

Great job. Appreciate the courteous and friendly service. More than I was expecting.

I was contacted by Don Scrapelli who wanted to earn my trust and business back. I really appreciate the concern and the resolution he offered. I had already contacted someone else to do the work as with this situation time was of the essence of getting our sewer line back open. Our deposit was refunded and Don offered me to contact him again if we found our issue does not get resolved to my satisfaction with the other company. Very much appreciate the response and offer of resolution.

I had a toilet overflow and their plumber did good for the most part but our biggest problem is with the water restoration department. We had a class 3 sewage situation and the response time was terrible they didn't go deep enough and contaminated other areas of the house. We had an expert come in a review their work and we come to find out they only cleaned up about half of the mess and at this point a lot of time had passed so they caused us additional $27,000 in damage. Now they are trying to make me pay the $5,000 they charged me for their poor work. I don't have any additional funds from the insurance at this time and they're treating me and family like it's our fault. So that's what kind of company your dealing with they don't stand by their word and they don't do good work plus they like to try to intimidate people into paying a bill for a job that wasn't even done right!

Not impressed. Late for the appointment and no particular sense of urgency once he arrived. Initial quote was unbelievable-almost $360 plus parts to fix a toilet. I pointed out that I could buy a new toilet for that and indicated that I would pass on the job. Then he offered me a so-called commercial rate of $198 for labor plus parts. Went ahead knowing that these guys will never be back. A rip-off basically. I'm waiting for the sticker shock associated with the parts. That should be interesting.....

Will not be using Roto-Rooter again. My company had them come out to look at a urinal that was having issues flushing. All he did was cleared toilet of restrictions and it cost $740. Absolutely ridiculous. We contacted other privately owned plumbers in the area and asked what they would charge for something like this and they said roughly around $200. We also looked up the price of Sloan urials online and they cost around $300 for a brand new urinal. We could have bought 2 brand new urinals for the price of them to come out. Ridiculous.

Called for a main drain cleanup. It is an hour job max. The tech quoted me $442....wtf?   Said it was the hourly rate.  Rip-off pure and simple. Explains why I don't see many Roto-Rooter trucks in my neighborhood. Wow. Stay far  away from this company as they are way out of line on pricing unless you just like being raped.

The roto rooter team that came to my house in Kansas City to fix my clogged shower was amazing. The plumbers were on time (able to come the same day I called to request service), quick to find the problem, and explained things to me (someone who is clueless with this sort of thing) in a way that was easy to understand. They even helped to replace a rusty piece on the shower that had nothing to do with the reason they originally were called to the house. I would recommend the roto rooter team to any of my family and friends!

Your dispatch last night was awful. Called for service at 6:30, promised by 10:30, called me back at 11:15 saying they weren't sure if they can make even after I updated as to what I knew was wrong. Supervisor called me at 12:00 am and was like still want service/ YES I do. The tech arrived about 1:30 and was finished by 2. He was amazing. Dispatch really messed up and kept giving me the run around. Your dispatch needs to use GPS to better track where your techs are and pay attention to it and not send the techs all over delaying service your dispatchers promised.

The dispatch promised us a call by a certain time to confirm a more accurate time. Of course they did not call. The tech finally arrived hours later and was very nice. But the quote he gave me for the job was almost $300 plus parts. Called a couple of other companies and they all quoted $200 or less for labor and parts. So Roto-Rooter is definitely way over priced. Will not be calling them again!

Update to this....

A guy came to my house on Wednesday morning, but was not aware of anything involving my situation with a crawl space.  He was clearly too big to fit through the opening.  So he bailed and then neither myself, my mom or my dad who were helping me out...got a phone call back with any updates on whether I was going to get service or not.

Absolute trash and waste of time.

Thank God for the very nice Plumbers and Technicians because whoever schedules them needs some improvement.  4 out of 5 times they did not arrive in the window of time I was told.  That is my only complaint.

Jason Meyers #131 was great to work with. He was very knowledgeable, friendly.  He seem genuinely interested in finding the source of our plumbing problem! Also, Chris Smith, #?, a Commercial Technician, who performed a camera pipe test, was great to work with.

Main drain was clogged.  First Tech was very nice and professional.  He completed the auger portion of the service and told me the drain was open.  He called in to have a Tech with a camera dispatched and then left.  The Camera Tech (I mean sales person) arrived to show me a drain that was still almost completely blocked with roots and told me the only option was to dig up my yard for thousands of dollars.  Having just received such horrible news it didn't occur to me to ask, Why are there any roots left if the other guy did his job?  That is where my education began.  The fine print says they will open the drain not clear the drain, very different things.  After doing some extensive research online and on the phone I discovered my mistake.  The next day I called a local plumbing company that brought both the auger and camera.  Within 15 minutes or so they pulled up a softball size clump of roots, had me flush a toilet then put the camera in to show me a completely clear drain.  They recommended a very inexpensive foaming roots killer to use once or twice a year.

Now, I do want to say that both Techs were very pleasant, professional and probably doing exactly what they have been trained to do.  My issue is with Roto-Rooter policy.  Companies have to make money and I get that, but to take advantage of my ignorance on the subject using fear tactics is just wrong.

Not to mention they charged me almost 50% more than the local company did the next day and didn't solve anything.  Be very careful and do your research.  Make sure the Tech you hire uses both the auger and camera so they can confirm the work for you.  Also, make sure the company you hire agrees to clear your drain if at all possible, not just open it.

I cannot review their work because I cancelled my appointment with them, this review is simply about their scheduling.
I called them yesterday to unclog a kitchen sink.  They scheduled an appointment window of 6-10 PM.  They then called me just after 5pm which is BEFORE I left the office (which is why I asked for the 6-10 PM window) saying they had someone ready then and could he come early.  I said I wouldn't get home until 6pm.  So they sent that technician out on another call.  At about 9:30 PM they called me and told me their technician couldn't make it.  I had to reschedule for tonight.
The dispatcher said he had a 5-9pm window he could give me so I took that.  I took off work EARLY to make this window and was home by 4:30 PM waiting.  Just to be extra cautious, I called around 5:30 PM to verify I was still on the schedule for tonight.  I was informed that they tried to call me at 5:01 PM but there was no answer. Which is very odd since I had no calls on my phone which had been on my person the entire time and no voicemail from them.
I said...no, I'm waiting here for you.  So they told me they will tell my technician to just come to my house when ready and that I didn't need a call.  At 8:50, I decided to call them again and find out that it will be at least an hour and a half before a technician can get to me.
It's been an extremely busy week and I've wasted two whole evenings waiting for them.  Sorry RotoRooter, you didn't make a new customer out of me this week.

After this last crazy rain storm a few weeks ago, our basement had a back up with the floor drain and we were absolutely devastated due to the fact we just bought our home less than a month and half ago.

The tech came out within a few hours, and cleaned out a drain. He was so informative, and so helpful. He even scheduled another of their guys to come out later that week to check on if we would need a sump pump eventually or not. He gave us a bottle of drain cleaner to do once a month in all of our drains explained how it worked. And he was so polite especially when I was a nervous wreck.
The tech who came out to estimate costs of a sump pump was great as well in informing of us and reassuring us of whether we needed one or not. He was helpful and used his personal experience to help ensure us and point us in the direction of if we needed one or not.

Definitely will be going back to them if we ever decide on one, or if we have any more issues.
