HISTORY
Established in 1949.
In 1950, Dick Ray, recently the commanding officer of Navy LCI, started his own plumbing business. He was educated at the University of Washington in Seattle, and during the war was a graduate of the US Coast Guard Academy at New London, Connecticut. His family came to Kansas City from England during the gold rush and remained. His Uncles helped lay the first sewer in Kansas City. He started the plumbing company with a pair of pipe wrenches and nothing else. Having no truck and not being able to afford one, he used the family car for a truck the first time. He hauled pipe and heavy fittings in a trailer behind. His wife answered the phone in their home while busy raising their three children. She took the service calls and Dick Ray took them from her by telephone and attended them. Even in those days, they offered 24-hour service. The family that came to Kansas City from England and helped lay Kansas City's first sewer 6 generations ago is still going strong.
ABOUT BUSINESS OWNER
When the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor in 1941 Dick Ray was attending The University of Washington in Seattle. He left Seattle to attend the Coast Guard Academy in New London, Connecticut graduating from The Academy as an Ensign.
After a tour in The South Pacific during the war he sailed as commanding officer on his LCI to the port of New Orleans where his ship was decommissioned at the end of the war.
Three years later in 1949 back in Kansas City, his home town, Dick started his own plumbing business and a family with his new bride Shirley.
He could not afford a truck & started his business using the family Chevy to run service calls, pulling an equipment trailer behind it. Dick had no helpers and did all of the labor himself. Shirley answered the phone in the home in Merriam and raised their three children. Shirley frequently took the service calls and conveyed the work orders to Dick.
Even in those early days they offered 24 hour service. The telephone rang beside Dick's bed & h

Service charge is high and we paid $400 (that was with a 10% discount) to have their tech sit on hold for an hour with Lennox tech support. Issue was a bad circuit breaker which could have been diagnosed more efficiently. I would shop around for more fair price.
I had my father call Dick Ray for his AC unit. The other company would only replace it and Dick Ray fixed it! Saved my dad a lot of money! Super thankful :)
In response to your comment, Ryan, it is misleading to tell people you have lowered your service charge ($166 for first half hour) when you have not. That is my beef.
Ok, so based on this business's new minimum service charge of $79, I did try using them again. Guess what -- their minimum service charge includes NO WORK. No, actual work is another $83 per half hr. So nothing's changed, it's $160+ for the first half hour. Master plumber? More like master ripoff. I feel like a chump.

Our heater went out in 18 degree weather this weekend. I spoke with the office manager, who reassured me that we wouldn't have a house fire, and suggested we wait until Monday morning to make an appointment, because it would save us a couple hundred dollars - so already got a yahoo for both answering the phone at night on the weekend and for being upfront on what they could do. Dan came this morning, he was super professional, kind, and we have a warm toasty house now. He was upfront on what broke and what needed to happen, and explained the invoice easily for me. So thank you guys!
Please run and do not use them. Their technician came out and fell through the ceiling in our kitchen. We explained to them we will pay the $65 fee when they come out and fix our ceiling and technician got upset. I called the office and no apology for the inconvenience, but they focused on the $65 at which time I told them I wanted to make sure someone came back before paying and all I got was a laugh and no apology. I explained our 81 year old mother had chemo and can not be ingesting anything coming from the attic, no empathy but more laughing about us not paying the $65. We are close to a month later and no update so I call again and finally talk to Jewel who is much more pleasant but states their drywall person is way behind with no ETA and I explain my mom having chemo again and I explain they need to hire someone else. Terrible service for an incident your technician is responsible for so please steer clear of this company. If I hear back soon I will update this post!

Their truck hauling a trailer with loose rock on 635N at 6:00 pm , Wednesday May 6,2020, with rock bouncing off trailer and hitting other vehicles, the rocks hit my windshield several times, even when I was in the other lane. I called the company, left a message with the answering service, and still no call back from them.

BE AWARE BE AWARE BE AWARE
I was a new hire for this company and they let me go Unexpectedly. when I asked why they let me go they did not give me a reason other than saying we have a 90 day observation I can let you go at any time.
They had released me via text message said they would come by the next morning to pick up the van I said OK the following morning early a.m. I went to the gym they texted me and was at my place of living to pick up the van they had spare keys to take the van also my car charger was in that van for jumpstarting cars they took the van
At that time Mike the GM called me and asked me where are The keys to the van I had told him that they were in my room after the gym I would return them mike had proceeded to tell me that they did not have them at that point in time they were going to have to charge me $700 to re-key the truck
I know I let you know again they never gave a timeframe when they will pick up the truck in the morning I did what I normally do in the morning they took the truck but did not get the keys cause they did not give an availability time when they would pick it up when I receive my last check which should've been $3900 because yes they pay their employees commission there I received a check of $600 with a bunch of deductions one of the deductions $700 to re key your truck they stole my money they rip me off they let me go for no reason
If they do this to there employees I would be very cautious as a customer to do any work with this company
I have been on job where Customers make a complaints about the customer service center dispatchers not following up with customers and customers waiting around for technicians and not showing up for the customer left no messages or return calls
I did everything I was supposed to do as an employee there I completed my jobs and handled customers my paycheck should've been 3900 being paid 600 and being done wrong by a company that you trust that advertises and leads you to think they're trustworthy it's just wrong
And remember customers always ask your technicians your plumbing technicians if they're paid hourly or commission because they get paid commission to make sales

Was hoping to use this company as they seem to get great reviews. I was referred via my home owner's warranty program when our AC went out on a 93 degree day. Originally, Dick Ray said they could see me that day (a Saturday), gave me my two hour window and we were all set! Then I got a notification from my home warranty program that Dick Ray had subsequently rejected the job. I called back to see what was up and they told me never mind they don't have that window and can see me after hours but I'd have to I pay an emergency rate. When I pushed back indicating this was not my mistake, they put me on hold only to come back and tell me never mind, they can only schedule homeowner warranty jobs Monday through Friday, and by the way they can't actually have someone cone out for two weeks, because they only have one technician who works with the home warranty program jobs. I don't like to be obnoxious about reviews, they seemed nice enough. Just a warning that if you are planning on going through your homeowner's warranty, Dick Ray may not be very helpful. They were extremely unhelpful in my case- ate up an hour of my time with a lot of misinformation, and ultimately could not accommodate the job in anything that would be considered a timely manner.
I was very impressed with Dick Ray Master Plumber Heating & Cooling. First, I spoke with Lisa who helped me set up my appointment. Since the referral/fix of my A/C was through a home warranty company, Lisa was great about getting me set up with their first available appointment which was the next day. After setting up the appointment, she even called me back to see if possibly she could help me fix the issue over the phone (unfortunately my issue was a part that needed to be replaced). The next day Cody came out and repaired my unit. He arrived on time, completed the work in a timely manner and patiently answered all my questions. I was very happy with both the customer service and actual service/repairs I received. I would highly recommend the company I will contact them in the future if I have any plumbing or HVAC issues.

They put the heating and air into our house when built in late 2006. From the first summer (2007) we had to have them come out for a repair on this new Lenox A/C. No charge. The next summer we had to call again. This time they charged us for the repair. Who has ever heard of only a one year warranty for parts on a A/C? In 6+ years we have had to have it serviced 6 times by others as we would not use Shawnee Mission again. Always something worn out etc. We were told by others that the unit was to small for our house and that is why it kept breaking down. So, now we learn the house size demands a 3.5 ton and they installed a 3 ton unit. Six years old and we will be replacing rather than throwing good money after bad. Our furnace has worked fine.....but it only has a 3 ton blower so now we have to replace it and add some duct work to get the ac to where it should have been to begin with when installed. Save yoursellf LOTS of $$ and go with someone else.

I have had Dick Ray plumbing out to my house twice for two different issues. The technician, Zac, was honest and didn't try to over charge me. Both jobs were not very easy! I would call them again for any plumbing issues!
DO NOT EVEN THNK ABOUT USING THIS GUY. I called them because I bought the advertising. They over charge. They do very little. They wanted to charge me $700.00 for a garbage disposal. You have got to be kidding. Please read this and go somewhere.

Horrible, if I could give zero stars I would. I called after hours with an emergency & spoke to someone who dispatched a technician but no one ever showed or called me back. So much for EMERGENCY 24 hour service...

I have had some water pressure issues ongoing, nonetheless they have fixed it and we're patient and persistent in getting the issues fixed. Dan and Vince were great technicians! Highly recommend this company. They have been honest and transparent and they communicate the options. I will definitely be using this company for future repairs!

Horrible service. Utterly horrible, they came to my house and were very unprofessional. Got sewage on my walls from the rooter and stained my carpet carrying there machine down stairs. They were also very overpriced. And a month later my sewage backed up again. DONT USE THEM.

Been using their service for years. Always prompt, courteous and efficient. Zak was the technician who diagnosed and repaired my furnace. He kept me informed and explained what was repaired. Lisa in the office was very helpful with scheduling and billing. If you are looking for HVAC or plumbing needs in the KC metro area, look no further!

If zero stars was an option they'd get zero. I had them out to look at an AC unit at my house. The repair guy told me I had a huge leak in my AC coil and I needed to replace the unit. He told me it was dangerous to have anyone downstairs and suggested I not light any candles due to the risk of freon combustion.
I paid these guys almost a hundred bucks for the service call but before I spent 3-5k on a new AC unit I called another company to come and give me a second opinion. Not only was there NO LEAK, the problem with the unit was a simple fan issue!
I don't know if it was just this one repair guy or if this is how Mission operates but I considered calling the BBB to lodge a formal complaint. IF you call these guys out don't assume they're telling you the truth. They nearly turned my $200 problem into a 3k payday for them.
Is majorly overpriced It shouldn't matter what business your in you shouldn't charge people 300% labor and 2-300% parts pricing. And plumber didn't even do the half the job right took shortcut that took same amount of time as if replaced the whole thing rather than caulk and hope... A plumber should know that. Talked to owner sounds like nice sincere man but wouldn't budge or compensate. .. Being they were recommended by friend I would of hoped for better but I wouldn't recommend. Watched you tube videos and got tips from home depot to do it right myself. Cost 30$ and few hrs vs 100 patch job.
Totally agree with other review wish I would have used this app before.
