Have you ever attempted an innocent DIY project and everything just goes awry? Like, your project wasn't really even plumbing-related but just close enough in proximity that problems started happening? Welcome to my Thursday night. I exacerbated a tiny drip in my master bathroom toilet into a small stream, flooding the bathroom, and sending water through the ceiling (inadvertently setting off smoke detectors!). Thankfully, I was able to contain the flood and shut the water off, but I knew I was out of my element.

Having mitigated the emergency, I quickly scheduled my appointment with Putman & Sons for the following Monday. To my surprise, Jeff arrived a half-hour early after I received both a text and call from the main office, and a call from Jeff himself. This was easily the most communicative a contractor has ever been with me.

Jeff was polite and professional, quickly laying out his strategy for solving the problem while I hammered him with every plumbing question on my mind (not just toilet-related). In about an hour, he had fixed the original leak, resealed the toilet, and satisfied my plumbing curiosities. In total, the cost was ~$200, which was perfectly reasonable, in my opinion, especially considering I think the whole ordeal took closer to an hour and 15 minutes.

Thanks for a great experience!

I'll give 2 stars for the person who answers the phone, she is great.  Other then that - a little on the pricey side - 95 bucks to come out, up to 350 if it's an emergency.  Then they charge by the hour, which is industry standard (I get it) but if they don't have the part they need they charge while driving back to the warehouse.  This happened when we had a leaky faucet.  Seriously, the dude didn't have a part for a Leakey faucet!!  Won't use again. Grrrrrrrr!!!!

Had to pay $475 to fix a leaky faucet and install a new handle toilet lift.  Felt plumber was fleecing me and overcharging.  Took  20 minutes to fill out bill.  Bill did not indicate hours served just $435 for his service.  He was here one and 1/2 hours.

We had them install a toilet for us, very professional employees. Will call them for any future plumbing issues.

Came out quickly and worked through solutions when we had a basement backup.
Would recommend them to come out.

This business is flat out terrible. DO NOT USE. Tore apart our family's toilet and said I don't have the part. He says we should get a new toilet and left it in shambles. We find the part online and he wouldn't complete the job. Absolutely useless, train wreck. We had to hire someone else to fix this, but of course we had to pay for the labor.

INSTEAD RECOMMEND: Frost & Kretsch

Second time tried calling for water leak
They can never come out.
Women who speaks to you on phone rude and unhelpful.
Will never call them for service again.

Really high standard work with plumbers who respect your home. Becky is fabulous in the office . I definitely recommend this company after working with them for a number of jobs and renovations to our home over 20 years.

We had an issue with our hot water tank, before they got started we talked about going with bigger tank as my family kept running out of hot water. They suggested new technology Runai i think that will accommodate 3 showers, dishwasher and any other hot water needs. Brent Putman explained the process and sounded like the direction we want to take. Long story short we have no more cold showers or waiting in line when the tank is ready. We appreciate the response time, suggesting alternative solution. We have since used them at our office and we are very happy with their service, price, and cleanup after job was completed. will use them again

Will continue to use. Very reliable and hard working group. Always respectful of your home. My advice - use this group of people, may cost. little more but definitely worth the money. Woman on the phone is amazing - very kind and polite.

All fee, no service

3 weeks after calling Putman for help with a leaky bathroom faucet, a technician arrived to tell me I had a leak (Duh!) - $150 please!  Though I asked about the part leaking, no detailed info was supplied (my own research later identified a quick-connect part).  He left saying I would be contacted tomorrow in/re part availability.  A week later I had to call them to find out that nothing had been addressed yet but, they'd get right on it.  Several days later they did call back to say that the part was not available, I would need to replace the faucet.

In the mean-time, I contacted Delta Faucet.  Not only was the part available, they shipped it to me for free.  (It has since been installed, by me, in @ 15 minutes.)  I paid $150 for the lessen learned.

I was aware of the service fee but, expected some type of service.  I paid $150 and received no service, other than what I had to prod out of them, and then, they either lied to me about the part availability or, were too inept/lazy to find it - same result.  I feel taken advantage of.

Bottom line advice - unless you have money to flush down the toilet, do not call a professional plumber unless it is absolutely necessary.  If you do need a plumber, do not call Putman.

I'd also like to take this opportunity to giver 5 Stars to Delta Faucet customer service - they were great!

I am selling my house and needed a basement sink fixed / replaced. The repairman arrived, looked at the fixture, made a call to his manager at the office and advised me that would be $150 for the trip charge and could not fix the problem. I asked that he call his manager back and see what they could do on the price.

He called the manager and they came up with the solution that he would go out and pick up the part.
The amount invoiced was $927.43. I priced two of the exact parts from Home Depot and one was marked up from retail 67% and the other 293%.

I called to ask for a courtesy credit of $200 as the price was egregious. Michelle said that she could offer me a senior citizen discount of 5% ($44.91). I said that was unacceptable and asked that the owner (Brent) call me back. So far after several attempts, I have not received a call back. Be careful if you're considering this organization.

We had a leaky toilet, they were able to show up 3 days later!  Told us what was going on and what the repairs were going to be and offered to swap out to new toilet if we wanted to (couldn't get one at HD/Lowe's), so he was able to reinstall existing without leaking.

We've had Putman & Son at our home several times for different jobs, fixing ballcock in toilet, opening drains, toilets augured, opening and replacing wet bar sinks,  and every time they did a great job, in as little time as possible . And everything they did works well. I will recommend this company to anyone! They're courteous, respectful, and very professional workers.

Fantastic job. Problem wasn't fixed the first time. Second visit was scheduled in a very timely fashion and technician was professional and empathetic. He worked with our family regarding fees for the service. He was also informative and efficient. Would use this company again!

I would DEFINITELY NOT use this company. We could hear hissing in the corner of our pantry and the floor of the cabinet was damp, we knew we had a leak. Putnam sent 2 men out initially and they agreed that the leak was in the pantry. When they gave us an estimated for insurance purposes.  When they came out to actually do the work, 2 other men came with diagnostic equipment and told us the leak was in my LAUNDRY room despite our telling them where WE could hear it. They broke the tile and dug up my laundry room only to find out it was NOT there. They then proceeded to break the tile in my PANTRY and dig up that floor to find the leak where we said it was. THEN, when I asked them to put my laundry room in working order they ADDED more $$ to my bill! Before they left, they told me that they were REQUIRED  to do what they did! AND if I called back within 2 weeks they would ONLY charge me $115.00 per hour to hook up my laundry room sink!  I am SO SORRY that I actually PAID THESE people.  NEVER USE PUTNAM BROS PLUMBING!!!!

Let me paint a picture for you -- last night, I go downstairs to change the cat litter and MY ENTIRE CEILING IS WET AND DRIPPING. I have no clue what to do, and I also have no one to call. I finally found the water supply valve (in a crawl space full of spiders! AHHH!). Then, in the middle of the night, I let my elderly dog out to pee and she gets SPRAYED BY A SKUNK. I have to turn the water back on to bathe her. Leak starts again x5. Turn the water off again, go back to sleep. Get up for my NEW job, and call 5 plumbers on lunch. No one calls me back. I leave at 3:45pm knowing this is an emergency, but apparently no plumbers answer their phones or messages.

So what happens next?  A DARN MIRACLE! Putman & Sons CAME THROUGH LIKE CHAMPS. 20 minutes after I called, I was clearing the flooded area out and they pulled into my driveway. It should have been an after-hours call, but I swear Heather was put on this earth to solve flooding issues, including tears.

JOHN was AMAZING. He TROUBLESHOOTED, DISCOVERED, and RESOLVED the issue. I was so impressed with his professionalism and dedication to detail. John told me Putman & Sons services Meijer stores and dentist offices -- places where the job needs to be DONE RIGHT, THE FIRST TIME.

I'm going to need a complete tear down and rebuild of at least one wall, and carpet replacement. I had a HUGE plumbing issue that escalated FAST and NO ONE called me back -- except Putman & Sons, who got a professional plumber into my house within a 1/2 hour.

I will forever and ever recommend this company. I've already lined up a couple projects for them around my house, including PREVENTATIVE work. If you need plumbing EXPERTS, with PROMPT SERVICE, these are the people to call!

I do not recommend this company.   They overcharged me for two simple jobs.  It took 3 visits to repair a simple drip.  Everytime they came was later than the allotted time frame causing me to miss work. The technician talked my ear off trying to explain the problem.   This is the first time leaving a bad review ever.  Please consider another company for your plumbing needs.

A guy came in our house and looked at our RO spout January 13, 2015. Then started his speech about how he cannot do the job of even replacing it, cause theres so many brands available out there, etc. Spent no more than 5 minutes, went back to his car to charge us for half an hour rate of $95!

I didn't know plumbing work is consultative now a days...

I have called for urgent repair of appliance in the past and they were ready to replace what was needed to bed replaced at the time they came. So for this, I do not recommend this company.

We called Putman and Sons a couple months ago when our sewer drain was clogged. They put a camera in the line and discovered that the cast iron main sewer line, under our family room was corroded and needed to be replaced. Our family room is on a slab and all the flooring had to come out to make repairs. Everything in the room had to be removed and our new wood floor had to be ripped out. We weren't very happy about the process, but felt 100% comfortable with their work and their level of professionalism. We will be remodeling our master bathroom soon, and will definitely be calling them to do the work.
Sincerely,
Mike and Michele C

I worked with these guys during a remodel and they are now my go-to plumbers!  They were very friendly, professional, and responsive to our calls (both the technicians and the receptionists).  Also felt they were reasonably priced too.   I honestly would recommend them to anyone in the area!!

Major backup in my kitchen sink. The plumber came in was not very interested in what I had to say about how the sink had been acting off and on for a while. Just saw the standing water, said he had seen hundreds before and snaked it out. A few weeks later we had the exact same problem. The company refused to do anything about it saying that it was probably a 'new' problem. I just found out while discussing my issue with my neighbor that he had a similar experience with this company. Had to pay them for coming out but threw them out and hired someone else when the guy demonstrated that he had no idea what he was doing. Bad diagnostic company that does not stand behind their work. Will never call them again.

I can't say enough about how satisfied I was with Putman & Sons, who were recommended to me after another local plumber (company name rhymes with mover) completely botched what I hired him to do, resulting in the second flood in my basement in six weeks and messing up my previously fine bathtub drain. Mark and his apprentice, Dwayne, not only corrected the mess left by their predecessors but really went the extra mile to ensure that the only way my basement can flood again is to have someone pump water in from upstairs with a hose. Price was beyond fair, especially considering the high level of work performed. Don't hesitate to contact them if you have a problem--I couldn't be more impressed or satisfied.

Putman and Sons Plumbing is my first review after relocating to Michigan and they absolutely deserve five stars.  It can be pretty daunting when you're new to a place and need a skilled trade.  Really it's a flier.  Well, in this case my uncertainty was quickly allayed by this exceptionally friendly, conscientious, honest and knowledgeable outfit.  They were able to squeeze me in on short notice and completed the work efficiently for what I considered a more than fair price.  There's no doubt that I've found my go-to plumber in our new home.  Thank you!

I don't give a ton of reviews on Yelp, but I am going out of my way to say some great things about Putman and Sons Plumbling. We just built a house in Royal Oak in 2012 and we were having issues with our toilets not flushing correctly. My wife and I knew about Putman and Sons from growing up in the Rochester area. The owner, Mark, came over to inspect the situation and let us know that our issue was due to the original builder and plumber not clearing our sewer line all the way to the street. Mark then took care of the issue for us even though he really didn't have to because we were still under warranty for our home. I was amazed at how great their service was and how quickly they were able to diagnose the issue. They are honest, dependable, and I will never use another plumber again. I highly recommend Mark and his crew to anyone who needs plumbing done for their business or home.
