McNiff Plumbing & Heating

I'll keep it short up front, then expand if you care to read further: if you're reading this review, you've just found your plumber.  James Jim McNiff is the kind of honest, straightforward, and reliable perfectionist you want doing the plumbing in your home.
I first met Jim on the advice of a friend - we suffered a frozen clog during the sub-zero cold snap this past winter, and although he isn't a clog guy he called me back quickly and pointed me in the right direction.  
So when we wanted to replace our inefficient oil furnace with a new gas system, Jim was my first call.  He came through and inspected the system, measured every radiator in our home, and came up with the BTU requirement for our heating needs. (Note: this is the proper procedure, and if someone simply sells you the same size boiler, then they've already failed - that boiler could be under- or over-sized.  Jim is the kind of guy who wants to work with his own data to get it right).
Jim then wrote up three different options for us to pursue, mapped out the rebate incentives available from our energy provider, and gave us a timeframe for how long each one would take.  We chose a system and he talked us through what to expect.  
To put it simply: the work was perfect.  Not only did Jim install a beautiful new system, he even was able to compress the footprint, saving us 14 square feet in our basement.  That kind of foresight comes only from experience.  When you watch him work, you realize he's lined up all of his fittings from small to large, and has everything mapped in advance; the man is looking for perfection.  
Everything works perfectly now - our heat is silent, reliable, and best of all - much cheaper now.  The contractors Jim had to bring in did an excellent job as well.  
So if you're looking for a great plumber to do the job right - you've found your man.  Jim McNiff is....  the man.

Excellent service!  We discovered our hot water tank was leaking this morning around 11am and less than five hours later it is completely replaced and working fine.  Jim gave us a quick response and quote and was here within the half hour to assess our tank and begin repairs.  Couldn't be happier with the work.

My 9 year old water heater was leaking like crazy through the bottom, not through the overpressure valve or any piping.   I called to McNiff Plumbing see about getting it replaced same day.  It wasn't a huge rush because I had already shut off the water inlet and the breaker and cleaned up all the water mess.  I have one of those half-height water heaters in the crawl space under the stairs, not easy to get to!  Jim was there in a little over an hour and did a great job with removing my old water heater from its awkward home and installing a new more efficient one.  Very professional and I will call Jim for any plumbing needs in the future - including replacing my 28 year old boiler heater at some point.  Thanks Jim!

I called Jame's answering service a little past 9am. He was at my house at 10:30 snake in hand ready to tackle our drain. Not only was he an over all nice guy he handled all the questions I had about how clogs happen, how the snake works... and so on. He charged a very reasonable fee THREE TIMES CHEAPER than Roto... and to be honest, the guy from Roto was a jerk.

I would call James in a heartbeat for any small plumbing need (he has only done a small plumbing job for me) He is honest, reasonably priced and what I call good people

If you are looking for quality, perfection, and get a fair price look no further. McNiff Plumbing is great. Jim installed a new high efficiency boiler and indirect water tank for me. I used the mass save program to do so and it can a pain but Jim made the install the easiest part of the whole thing. Jim is top notch in his trade. Great to work with. We had McNiff over to replace the water faucet in the bathroom this week - the cold knob sheered off and was out of commission. Who wants to brush their teeth in scalding hot water? Not me!

James (Jim) is very thorough (methinks a perfectionist), is careful not to wreck your stuff in the area he is working, and actually *cleans* up before he invoices you. Short of flying my dad out from the other side of the country I can't ask for more in a service professional.

I have used Jim to install heat in my house, update the plumbing in my bathroom and replace my old water heater.  Every single time I call Jim he is quick to respond and gets the job done faster than I ever expect.  His pricing is more than reasonable for the job he does, but most of all he is by far and away the most reliable person that has come to work on my house.  I would recommend Jim to anyone that has plumbing or heating needs as there is nobody else out there doing the quality of work that Jim does at a more affordable price.

I wanted to upgrade my old heating system, I called several people since this was a big job and he had a fair price and seemed trustworthy.  I was switching to natural gas and changing the system from 1 heat zone for the whole house into multiple zones.

National Grid was a pain in the A** to deal with, but that shouldn't reflect on James in anyway.

He showed up when he said he would, did the work requested of him (and then a little extra) and stayed budget and completed the job on time. The new system looks good so far - I would recommend James for other jobs, and if I need other big plumbing jobs he would be my first phone call.

Great plumber, great price, have used him many times: furnace and water tank; sinks and toilet; and other smaller jobs.

I'm a repeat customer who experienced a water heater leak at the worst possible time. McNiff came out on short notice and diagnosed the problem, fixed it and charged a fair price.  He is on top of his game in all respects.  Returns calls promptly, gives accurate time estimates, shows when he says he's going to and gets it right the first time -- both the diagnosis and the repair.  He is the ONLY plumber I will call.

We highly recommend Jim.  

Jim was recommended to us by a colleague.  They were impressed with his work.  We were equally impressed with the work he has done for us.

Specifically, Jim converted our home from an oil boiler to natural gas fired system.  Our house is over 100 years old and required Jim to accurately size our system to order the new boiler as well as install it.  He also lined up the necessary other tradesmen for the project and pulled the necessary permits from the town.  We needed a chimney service to install a liner for our chimney, an oil tank removal service, removal of the old boiler and an electrician for wiring upgrades.    

Jim lined up these contractors and accomplished the installation in less than one day!

We also used Jim for a needed repair recently. He was easy to contact and schedule and very fair with pricing.  

I have a little experience in the trade having worked as a plumbers helper a few summers for my brother-in-law, a master plumber in PA.  In my conversations with Jim I quickly came to the conclusion that he was 100 percent on the mark with his estimate of the situation and recommendations for the job.

Jim has done work for us a number of times.  We found him to be quick, thoroughly professional and very reasonably and fairly priced.  Having hired different plumbers over the years, we are very happy to have settled on Jim and recommend him without qualm to anyone in need.
