Called Len The Plumber based on recommendations in MC County, Best Pick Reports, and our community neighborhood e-mail group.
The bathtub hot water faucet was leaking hot water and the hot water shut off valve was broken. Called Len The Plumber, plumber showed up on time, but claimed he could only fix the shut off valve.
The hot water shut off valve was replaced and is now working. The plumber tried to fix the hot water faucet, but said he needed to replace the cartridge, had to special order this part as well as the shower diverter. After a while, not exactly sure how, the plumber fixed the hot water faucet leakage. The plumber said he had adjusted something inside and we were all set. If we were to encounter further issues we could just call the main number and he would order needed parts. We paid $519, overpriced?
Two hours later we discovered that the hot water issue was not fixed, and this time worse. We called the main number immediately, received a call back the next day. Dispatch office was going to contact the plumber that initially came out and he would return asap. Waited and waited, but noone showed up or called. Meanwhile, someone from customer service called to do a satisfaction follow-up call. We conveyed our frustration and the customer service rep. said he was going to notify someone. Again we waited! After six phone calls we finally got in touch with a manager, Thomas, who said they had the parts and they could come out the next day. This time the cost would be $729, this amount was added to the previously $519 paid. After lengthy negotiations, the amount was adjusted to $159. Thus far we were to pay $519 (initial visit) + $159 (2nd visit).
The same plumber returned, and he brought along replacement parts. The hot water faucet cartridge was replaced, but the diverter was not! During the intitial visit, the plumber forgot to check the diverter and could not replace the diverter cartridge as the part purchased was not the correct one, the current diverter cartridge could not be replace! The plumber left, it was late, he was tired, he forgot to caulk around the diverter. Water is now seaping into the wall.
Following the last visit, and after trying to get in touch with Brad Davis, Divisional Manager for Montgomery County (not too eager to return my calls), and one week short of a month - we were finally adviced that the whole faucet had to be replaced and that Len The Plumber could supply and install the faucet for $419.
So to sum it all up: Not to forget the countless hours waiting + numerous phone calls and e-mails - total cost for getting our hot water shut off valve, faucet and diverter fixed $ 1097. Does that sound excessive?
