Bob learned the trade in the Navy while based at the DC Navy Yard back in the early 1980s. He came to work for Allied in 1984 and earned his masters license in 1987 and took over Allied in 1989. Imagine this: It's Day 2 of #Snowzilla2016. You wake up in the morning and things feel a bit ... off. You roll out of bed to see the snow still falling and go downstairs for a hot cup of coffee (tea). You glance at the thermostat. You glance at the thermostat again. A third time.

WTF?!

Frantic, you run downstairs and slide open the door to look at the furnace. You're not sure what you're looking at. It's metal, boxy, and making a noise. But not the noise it usually makes when it keeps you warm. This is a different noise.

You run upstairs, even more frantically because things are getting real. Fast. You grab your phone and start Googling things. Furnace. Cold. Help. You find some numbers and call all of them. No one is helpful. Everyone sucks. You give up, turn on a space heater and settle in for what could very well be the end.

Somehow, you keep your house warm enough with the space heater and lots of cooking. Towels at the doors. Water off and pipes drained at night. Two days go by. Monday morning you call all of the HVAC people who said they'd visit on Monday. They don't remember you. Everyone sucks, again. Then, you call Bob at Allied Service Co. He comes within 3 hours, even when your street hasn't been plowed. He fixes your furnace. He only charges you a basic diagnostic fee. He shakes your hand and leaves to go save other people. You see his cape as he exits your home.

My tankless hot water heater stopped working. Sent a message via yelp and Bob responded quickly. Set something up for the next morning (Sun). Came by, repaired it and now I have hot water. Charged a very reasonable fee. I would definitely work with Allied Service company again.

Do not use this company my mom had a boiler that was supposed to be installed last April when she went to use the heat it was not working. Called the company several times would not call back and would not return calls even hung up in our face. Called another company stated that the boiler was just set in the house and the power was supposed to be ran to it but he failed to do it and that means he did not test the system to see if it worked. He told my mother who is a senior citizen it would run fine but that was a lie. But not to call or come out to see what the problem was is just absurd also emailed the company no response he was paid in full in cash  beware of half done work

Bob came to my house back in 2014(the day of my wedding reception) when my Freon was low, and literally in 20 minutes he said I will be back in a few years because you have a small leak but nothing to worry about right now.
Well now its 2016 (the day of my birthday party), and the whole unit keeps freezing and he says You need to replace it He gives me a quote.. comes back the next day and puts the new unit in and I am great! Both times Bob came, I had a house full of people and no air! How crazy is that!

Excellent service and professionalism!  I needed my rooftop AC inspected and then replaced.  Allied came out on very short notice, arrived on time both days, brought all the tools they needed (this had been a problem with other companies), assessed the problem, explained them so I understood and was willing to discuss options with me.  The pricing was extremely competitive and the work was done quickly and competently.  I will be using Allied for all my future needs.

Our HVAC system stopped working this past weekend. Bob responded to our message on yelp and committed to showing up the next morning between 8:00 and 9:30. After inspecting the problem, he was able to fix the issue later that day, and our HVAC is back to cooling down our house.  Thankful to have our problem fixed in one day!

Robert got back to me within an hour of my quote request and was able to service both of our in-wall units the next day, including fixing a clog that was causing water to leak into our living room (and in our wall!).  His price was very fair, he was easy to work with, and he even gave us some advice on how to maintain them ourselves rather than paying for semi-annual maintenance.  I would definitely use him again.

I was absolutely thrilled with Bob and the whole Allied team. I needed a whole new HVAC system for my condo. When I called other companies for estimates, some weren't able to come for a few weeks. Not only was he able to come for an estimate within a few days, he said he could install it just a few days later. And here's the best part: he gave a better price than all the other estimates! And the service was excellent too, so I can't believe I got such a great deal. Thank you!

Robert responded to my request via Yelp for dishwasher servíce. He gave me a competitive quote, showed up when he said he would be here, completed the job in a timely manner, and charged me the cost of his estimate. It was simple and no hassle. So happy I found Bob through Yelp! Our A/C decided to crap out, during the HOTTEST week of the year, and we immediately panicked. Called several places but they weren't available quickly enough (and one just flat out didn't show). Once I got in touch with Bob, he was able to come out immediately and diagnose the issue. Not only that, but he had the new part we needed (a fan motor) in his shop - and he came back just an hour later to install it! Now our A/C is working perfectly for a very reasonable price. Bob was quick, efficient, and knowledgeable. I also asked him about getting a new water heater, and he assessed and discussed our options for replacement, which was great. He will definitely be our guy for this stuff going forward!

Bob is great.  My HVAC/heat was not working - or so the gas company told me - and it's the day before we're expecting a huge snowstorm, so you can imagine my panic.  I called Bob around 230pm and he was there by 330pm.  Turns out my HVAC was fine, so the unneeded stress & expense was annoying (which I chalk up to bad luck on my part). However, I really appreciated Bob's customer service, quick turn around, and reasonable fees compared to others in the area.  I had a plumber in that same morning that charged me 2-3x what Bob would have.  I will absolutely be calling him first the next time I have an issue.

Bob and his team team came out on Sunday and replaced our air conditioner which is up on a high roof,price was fair and workmanship was excellent,also two different companies came earlier and couldn't get to the air conditioner

Bob provided horrible service even though I have never meet this guy nor did he do work in my house. All I had was a lousy 5 min conversation with him and knew he is a hustler. Lets me  just start off with I have never had experience no one respond to my inquires regarding a quote with It's $250 do you have the money or not? When I said yes,  Bob said, well alright and hung up the phone on me. Not to mention he was very condosending and disrespectful throughout the short time I engaged him. He continues to sigh, huff and puff on the phone as if I were bothering him. So, I asked are you busy? Should I call you back when your freeand his response was (with a elevated voice) well yea; I am!  Busy.  To further illustrate Bob lack of professionalism with me would be after waiting several hours for him to callback to let me know he was on his way. He had his contractor, Bobby call me to tell me, Bob will not be out today because he's waiting on your part for the furnance and the part will arrive in the morning.  In which i was stunned because how can Bob order a part for my furnace when he had not seen my furnaces so how or why would you order a parts. Based on  my experience with Bob I concluded his business is a scam and he lack professionalism on multiple levels. He was rude, disrepect, condosending and lie to me as  the potiential consumer and for that I do not recommend anyone seek services from him. I can only assume Bob was rude due to he thought he was my only option considering it is Christmas eve. Well you thought wrong, Bob! You though wrong!

This is a follow-up review from my initial one. Robert has done it again! This time my HVAC system 20 years old went kaput. So I decided I'm going to replace my HVAC and my hot water heater. Robert came in give me an estimate next day within two hours both major pieces of equipment are installed and working fabulously. If I could get this level of service for everything that I needed life would be grand

If I could, I would give Bob and Allied a bonus star! I live some distance away from DC and support an aging parent from a distance. Imagine my panic and dread when I learned that the AC in our DC family home stopped working, during a heatwave no less. I contacted a few companies and Allied responded quickly (on a weekend) and had turned around a repair in less than a day.

Bob was prompt, offered a fair price, and a clear explanation on the nature of our repair/replacement. Most importantly, Bob was patient as my family and I worked through details regarding onsite visit and payment. What could have been a stressful situation was handled efficiently, empathetically, and with the utmost professionalism.

Just getting around to writing this review- my AC broke the day I was leaving on international travel (was actually leaving in 3 hours), so I called Allied frantic.  Bob responded right away and explained the situation and he was at my house within 30 minutes.  And he knew what the issue was and fixed it pretty quickly.  I couldn't believe how quick and efficient he was - I will definitely use Bob again!

After I wrote a bad review - because he did not do work he was paid to do - he offered me money to take down my review.  This guy is trouble and very dishonest. If you want details of the original problem, look below - he was paid to fix a loose toilet and never did - despite lots of promises to come out and take care of the problem.

Bob was excellent. The yelp message about his company is spot on; 24/7 response, free estimate, quick and reliable. He diagnosed our problem within 15 minutes, and had everything fixed within the hour. From time of contacting him via Yelp until the time he came out to assess the problem, it was 10 hours.... and this was emailing him on a Saturday night and him coming to our home Sunday morning. I couldn't recommend any HVAC company more!

What a horrible experience. Bob came out and serviced my split system through AHS home insurance.

Let's forget the weeks having to deal with AHS and Bob speaking to AHS and the back and forth, that can easily be blamed on AHS... but Bob told me that he replaced a part and fixed the split system, even though it didn't seem to be working, he said give it a bit... I did, and it continued to not work... all he ended up doing was OVERFILLING and OVERCHARGING me on Freon -- the Freon then leaked out, as he never solved the problem, but he charged me for 6 pounds when the split system only takes 4.5 max.

Okay, so he didn't fix it, he lied to me, he overfilled the system, he stepped on and broke an outside light, then he completely drops off the face of the earth. I wasn't angry at this point, I frankly wasn't sure what was going on and I just wanted to get in touch with him, because my heat was not working for weeks in the dead of winter... I was asking if he could come take another look... he would not respond to phone calls or email from me or the insurance agency.

AHS eventually gave up and hired someone outside their designated companies (JC & JC HVAC Mechanical Contractors, LLC) who evaluated, fixed and properly filled the unit in a timely and professional manner.

Very, very disappointed.

(Side note: early on he was telling me that I should replace the entire unit, or tear it out and get a gas fireplace installed instead because in his opinion split systems weren't good.. well outside of a gas fireplace not providing air conditioning in the winter.. it seems like I'd be better served with a $200 repair than a $3000 replacement).

We've had the trifecta in the last five months: boiler, water heater and A/C.  Each time, I called Allied.  Each time, Bob showed up and replaced the units in the same day.  One installation required follow-up service, and he came right out.  His prices are very reasonable and his service is excellent.  I trust him completely in and with our house.  I would not call anyone else.

My heat went out at the house and with a short request on Yelp I had a reply back from Allied in minutes.  I was offered a reasonable rate and had a technician at my house within a couple hours.  The technician, Bob (Robert), even actually arrived at the time proposed which is uncommon for just about any other service I've requested in DC.

Luckily it turned out to be a simple problem that Bob was able to resolve, offer up some additional tips, and close on a more than competitive rate.

I highly recommend Bob at Allied Service Company for HVAC and plumbing needs.  Between April 2020 and January 2023, Bob has replaced our AC Compressor, Air Handler, Dishwasher and Garbage Disposal.  Additionally, he came out to adjust our HVAC system after two other contractors couldn't figure out what was wrong.  We have never had an issue with Bob's work.  We trust him and would recommend him highly.

Bob was very professional. I had trouble with my water heater. I called him on a Saturday morning and by the afternoon i had a brand-new water heater fully installed. He gave me several options all reasonably priced. Based on the age and condition of the old water heater, it made the most sense to install a new one. He provided me with a very detailed and thorough explanation of what the issue was and why it made sense to install a new one. The price that he quoted me with the actual price he charged. Very fair. No gimmicks. No hassle and reasonably priced. Everything was as we had discussed. He even inspected the furnace at no extra charge. What had initially seemed like a major project was completed in less than half a day on the same day I called. Great service. Now I have peace of mind with a new professionally installed water heater. Will be calling Bob back for more projects and would definitely recommend Allied Service Company to all my friends and family.

Bob was great to work with. My heat pump went shortly after I bought my condo and being a new homeowner, he was very helpful in explaining to me what my options were and how to best care for my new heat pump.

In addition he made some tweaks to my thermostat the have helped my heating work perfectly ever since.

He was able to have my new heat pump installed on the roof in under 24 hours from when it broke.

Bob and his team are gems. He was responsive, flexible, and made every effort to meet our needs throughout the entire process. He handled our insurance company so we didn't have to, completed installation of a brand new AC system on time, and was a delight to work with.

We've used Bob several times now. First he replaced our heater the day we moved in to our new house in late December and quickly learned it was broken. The second time was our AC when we got home from out of town to learn it was broken and 90 degrees in our house. And he also replaced our water heater recently, same day we called. Allied service company is the best!!! Our water heater broke down so I called around to get price checks,  but either they were booked too full,  or were way too pricey, but then I called allied!!

Immediately I could tell they were a lot more professional than most of the other places I called. They quoted me at a cheap price and sent the technician out the same day. Every dime was worth it and he was able to get everything up and running. If you need quick service for a fair price, definitely go with this terrific company!! They will not let you down and are always great with their customer service.

Robert told us we would need an all new $3500 unit. I called a second company for another opinion and they were able to repair our existing unit in an hour for $100. Filter theses reviews by worst to best. Would strongly recommend you find another repairman.

Bob replied extremely quickly to my request for a quote and was responsive to correspondence before the service. He was able to come when we requested and was prompt and friendly. If I could give Bob and his company a 10-star rating, I would. I woke up at 3:30 this morning because I was very cold. I got up to check the thermostat -- way below the 60-degree mark. I pulled out the laptop and started looking for a company.  When I read the reviews on Allied Service and saw they opened at 6 a.m. I decided to call as soon as they opened.  I left a message at 6:00 a.m. -- Bob returned my call barely 2 minutes later.  He was at my house at 8:30. My 30-year old furnace is shot, and we're expecting a blizzard tomorrow.  But Bob came back with a new furnace that is being installed as I type this. And he put in a new thermostat. The other worker with him is also terrific. The price is great. As I said, if I could give 10 stars, I absolutely would. Thank you, thank you, thank you, Bob!

Bob did an amazing job troubleshooting my HVAC at a reasonable price with great customer service!  HVAC was acting up. Ultimately, it needed a full replacement. It was not under warranty.

Quotes were obtained via Yelp from several local HVAC vendors. Original in-person diagnostics was obtained from a large HVAC company, also.  They were priced too high and lots of upselling.

Bob had a great price and diagnostic service was prompt, which was far superior than the rest. He was swift in ordering the new HVAC unit. He even assisted with the home owners insurance process, as he's a subject matter expert. He personally installed the HVAC with one of his other assistants. It's running smoothly, as we checked heat and cooling. He gave pointers, as well.

I highly recommend Bob. Support this small business.  Best prices and superb service in the Arlington area. No price gouging here. Just honesty and reliability, at an awesome price.

It's frustrating when a contractor commits to help you out of a tough maintenance problem, commits to show up, and then never does, and refuses to respond to the phone call asking if he's still coming.

That's what Bob at Allied Services did to me.

What's so difficult about answering the phone, or returning a phone call to say:
a) I'm not going to be able to make the appointment and help you, sorry, and
b) Here's a recommendation for who might be able to help you.

Simple professionalism.  But not my experience with Bob.

Bob was an enormous help to me. I had a Friedrich A/C unit that needed expert attention but I couldn't find anyone who would come take a look at it. Finally someone put me in touch with Bob, who was super responsive, kindly fit me into his schedule, and in short order came up with a plan for how to solve the problem. I can't remember the last time I worked with someone who was so generous with their time and expertise. I would recommend Allied to anyone!

Its June, and 90 degrees out.  Last night (or maybe night before) our upstairs AC system stopped working.  I called maybe 10 places off of Angies List, no one could come today on a Saturday except one place that wanted to charge me $330 just to come out!  Then I tried Yelp and Allied Service!  They came within 2 hours, had the ladder needed to get to my roof, and solved the entire thing right away!  And charged me $285, including labor and the freon fill-up.  Will definitely call them in the future for our heating and cooling needs!

Robert cleaned my drains at short notice. I got quotes from 10 companies and he was by far the least expensive.  He also took the time to educate me on plumbing, which was great.  I'd book him again in a heartbeat.

We had a great experience working with Allied and Bob.  We called Allied to get a second quote on a furnace and to confirm that our furnace was dead after a bad experience with another HVAC company.  Bob came out the same day to look at our unit.  He provided us a quote that same day for an energy efficient unit.  He is a straight-shooter, which was appreciated.  He did not try to upsell us or pressure us to replace our AC unit at the same time, even though it is 10+ years old.

After our HVAC failed and couldn't be repaired, we called Bob at Allied Service.  He was prompt, responsive, fair, and clear.  He helped us choose a replacement, offered a great price, and had it installed the next day.  Allied Service also helped coordinate with our insurance company to keep our out-of-pocket costs down.  

I was expecting an enormous and expensive hassle, but it was neither.  Overall, we had a great experience with Allied Service and very highly recommend them.

Outstanding experience working with a company for installation of new A/C.

It's not easy managing a home repair project from out of state, but Robert eased my concerns with back and forth dialog answering questions before beginning and providing updates with the project until complete.

Job well done at fair price and delivered as promised. Could not ask for more.

Bob is an incompetent crook who stole a part of my HVAC.  When my air conditioning broke the night before July 4, I sent several requests on Yelp.  Bob responded promptly and showed up the following morning.  At the time, my system had started working again, but I thought someone should look at it.  After viewing the condenser, Bob assured me that the issue was I needed a new capacitor, which would be $200.  I said ok, and he installed it.  After he did, the air conditioning stopped working all together.  When I asked him about error messages on my thermostat, he said he doesn't know anything about Carrier units (the top selling HVAC in the country!).

After admitting he didn't fix it, Bob told me that he wouldn't charge me and that at least I got a free capacitor.  The next day a professional from a legitimate company came over.  When I mentioned the new capacitor, he told me that the one Bob installed was used, broken, and rusted out.  The issue was the motor, but now I needed to pay for a new motor AND a new capacitor.  

To add insult to injury, Bob got black soot all over my windowsill and door.  DO NOT USE THIS GUY.

Also note that some of his over-the-top five-star reviews are from people outside of the DC area, which is very suspicious.

Ever wonder how companies that make appointments with you and don't show or call stay in business? Me too. I met with Bob to have him look at why the top floor of my new house wasn't getting cool. He told me there was an air flow issue and short of tearing out the existing duct work and reworking the flow issue the best option would be to install a mini split system. He said go online and purchase a 1 ton system and he'd install it for $1,000. I paid him $85 for the service call and told him I'd be in touch when the new system arrived. After the unit arrived I called to schedule the installation. We agreed to a date and time and on that day Bob didn't show. I did however receive a call from a lady telling me he had pulled his back and would need to get back to me in a few days. I waited....and waited...and waited. After a week I started calling to get some kind of update.  I had just spent $800 on a new AC system and needed to get it put in. Bob ignored over a dozen phone calls and 6 voice mail messages. At this point I was angry. So....I borrowed a friend's cell phone and called Bob.  Sure enough, he answered that call. I asked Bob...why are you ignoring my calls and voicemail messages? He said I'm not...blah, blah, blah. He agreed to come that following Tuesday to do the installation at 8:00am. At 8:45 Bob was no where to be found. I then decided to text Bob and he told me, no...it will have to be tomorrow. Some of my associates didn't make it in today. Pissed, I got ready and headed into work. Today at 8am Bob was again a no show. Then some dude named Wayne called to tell me that they were putting me on the schedule for tomorrow at 9:30am. I told Wayne,  the he'll you are. You have already stood me up three times, and you will never see another dime of my money.  Do yourself a favor and don't even consider using these unreliable, disrespectful people. Bob....karma is coming for you.

Our pipes froze & burst! We had them fixed but didn't realize the furnace was damaged too. Robert came out on a Saturday, he was prompt and quick to diagnose the problem. Water damage inside the furnace. We called the insurance company on Monday. Gave them Robert's info. By Monday afternoon we had approval to have a new furnace installed. We set up appointment for Thursday, Robert said it would take about 3 hours. He showed up promptly at 9 as promised and finished with 10 minutes to spare. Robert is professional, thorough, and just a good guy. I would recommend him (Allied Service Company) to family & friends. Thanks Robert!!

Last Friday, my AC unit started blowing room temperature air, which wasn't cooling my home. I sent out quotes on Saturday morning, and Robert was very responsive and able to schedule an appointment the next morning. He diagnosed the problem quickly (the compressor had burnt out), and he was able to install a completely new AC unit within 3 hours, which fixed the problem. I highly recommend Robert and his company for their responsiveness and high quality service!

I had the pleasure of having Bob from Allied Fast Services come to my house and installed a new 16-seer unit. And I must say, the experience was truly outstanding. In less than three hours, Bob efficiently completed the installation, demonstrating his exceptional skill and expertise. Not only did he ensure that everything was set up perfectly, but he also took the initiative to pull a permit, demonstrating his commitment to adhering to regulations and ensuring a job well done.He went out of his way to buy materials needed for my old house.

Bob's professionalism and attention to detail were truly commendable. Throughout the entire process, he exhibited a thoroughness that instilled confidence in his work. From carefully inspecting the area before beginning the installation to meticulously checking every component and connection. He made several recommendation to change multiple items since my unit was 20 years old.

Good luck getting an HVAC company in DC willing to pull a permit. Once you bring that word out, you will be  having a rundown. Bob was the only HVAC Master in DC who didn't blink an eye when I requested a permit.

Please do yourself a favor and call him, it will be the most pleasant experience you will ever have.

Cannot, CANNOT recommend against this more. 1) For starters, 150 for 15 mins of work snaking the toilet? 2) Left an absolute wet mess and cleanup is not included in the $150. 3) Zero warning/mention of CASH/CHECK ONLY. No CC. 4) Major insulting of intelligence with Now nooormally, it's 250. But we (as subcontractors, will do for 150 line. Pfft, c'mooon. 5) And there was also a bunch of other seemingly crazy shady stuff with the price and billing not worth going into detail about. But basically he couldnt respond to any of my questions/objections or kept going back on seemingly simple minor stuff and using subcontractor status as excuse for everything, like saying, Yeah it's ridiculous that he doesn't accept CCs. I know I  do. So I asked why doesnt he bust out the Square and get reimbursed, but nope--he forgot it. Or first claimed he didn't have official invoice docs...but then he did when I said couldnt pay otherwise. I also unfortunately realized after the fact that I was signing the yellow customer copy the whole time. Also, it's not standard to make out checks to the individual (vs. company),  right? Can't say exactly what, but def sooomething shady there between the guy Will and Allied.

So, all in all...Just. Don't. Sorry if I'm hurting a POSSIBLY  innocent Allied here, but thems the breaks -- it's YOUR hired/vouched-for subcontractor., right??

Just used Allied Service from a recommendation of  good friend. Bob was my HVAC tech. He diagnosed, fixed and had my A/C blowing cold air in about 15 min from arriving. And it was someday service!!!! This is the company to fix all you HVAC needs. Thank You Bob.

I had a leak late Saturday night from my AC unit. I messaged early Sunday morning and the owner responded within minutes. He set an appointment up for 11am but arrived a little over 30min early and fixed my leak quickly. He was all done before 10:30am and gave me tips for the future.

Bob is honest and excellent! We've had an issue with our hvac where it appears to be leaking Freon. Bob gave me an honest diagnosis and opinion and I really appreciate that. And was able to fix the problem as discussed/best option for us. I highly recommend Bob.

Our gas furnace stopped working the day after xmas and the coldest day of the year. Bob came the next day, replaced the furnace in only a few hours, gave us a great price, and we were warm and toasty the same day!

I can truly say that Bob of Allied Service Company goes above and beyond for his customers. I can't count the number of times that I needed either major work done right away or just something minor checked and Bob always gets the job done right! Bob and his team are great. They helped me pass an HVAC inspection that my General Contractor left me out to dry on. Ended up remedying the inspection write-up and buying a new furnace.  The entire job was done in a few hours and not a single shred of evidence that they were in my home besides the warm heat purring out of my vents. Bob is amazing. My boiler stopped working and he came right away to investigate. It turned out I needed a new steam boiler, which he got right away and scheduled to come back the next day at 7:30 am. He showed up right on time and everything went super smoothly! I am really grateful to him for his help and efficiency, and I also got a great price. He is an honest, capable, and super reliable business owner. I will definitely be using him for all my plumbing needs going forward!

I did not have heat for almost two days.  I attempted to troubleshoot and wait out the problem until I realized an expert's assistance was needed.  I called Allied and they promptly responded (they he's Abe exceptional extended hours for convenience).  Bob was at my home and resolved my problem in less than 15 minutes; he stated he had the part with him (BC they come equipped) and my heart has been running perfectly since!  What could have cost hundreds cost me not even $100; this company is highly recommended to women whom normally are cheated.  He was  trustworthy, professional and have me a great military discount.  THANK YOU BOB!! Bob never showed up for our agreed appointment and never contacted me to explain his absence or to reschedule.

Bob's voicemail prompt talks about the importance of your (missed) call, but it seems his customers are not important to him at all. Talk is cheap. Action is the best and most reliable measure of a company's principles and values.

If a vendor can't manage to show up when promised, how can they be trusted to do the work?

DO NOT TRUST ALLIED SERVICES. THERE ARE MANY OTHER HVAV COMPANIES, AND I STRONGLY ENCOURAGE YOU TO CALL SOMEONE ELSE...  ANYONE ELSE.
