Highly recommended! Rick and his crew are knowledgeable and professional. We were desperate after my husband tried to fix our leaky shower pipe. (Lord help me) They showed up within 30 min of calling, caped off the leak so we could continue to have water until they could order the parts and come back to fix the next day. They were quick, clean and so incredibly nice!

My property management company put me in contact with Rick's Plumbing when I heard very loud gurgling noises coming from the toilet in my apartment.  The toilet had stopped flushing (plunging didn't help), and neither the sink nor tub were draining.  I spoke with Rick on the phone and we scheduled and appointment for the next morning.  He was very friendly and considerate enough to offer to make me his first appointment since I needed to get to work in the city.  

Later that day the line from the apartment above me broke, and a horrible mess ended up in my bathtub (I'm grateful that's the only place it showed up and nothing was leaking through the ceiling). Rick tried to call me after he got the call from the upstairs tenant.  He left a voicemail because I was in a meeting.  He then called my property manager and got the key to my place.  When I got home, the bathroom was cleaner than it was when I left it that morning.  Rick did a spectacular job cleaning up what must have been a very unpleasant mess.  

The reason I wanted to be home for the appointment originally was because before I moved into this apartment, I'd read on the Yelp page for my property management company that one of their workman had let a pet out even though tenant specifically asked them to be aware and keep the door shut.  Apparently their pet did get out and they didn't know about it until they got home.  I was being over cautious because of this.  When I learned that Rick was already in my apartment and called him, he couldn't have been more understanding.  He may have thought I was a crazy cat lady, but was polite and kind.  When I got home my cat was safe and sound.  

Great service, friendly person, and kind to little old ladies and their cats.  Thank you Rick!

I am actually writing this review just as they are leaving because I am so impressed by them!  I needed a plummer because I smelled something damp in my new home.  The crew searched everywhere and found a couple of sources.  They fixed everything.
Rick brought a team of young men who are just awesome.  I thought that they were trainees - and I was cool with that.  I am an educator and a mom, so I love that idea.  But they all had a job to do and were incredibly efficient and knowledgeable.  
He has indeed trained them, but they seemed competent enough to be on their own (maybe? He would know).    I appreciate how they have used shoe covers every time they came back into the house (as well as masks).  Great work.  And bless Rick for the training he does!

after visiting the site to review the problem, I waited a month and called three times trying to get his estimate. After a month he referred me to another plumber who he said would have to come out and look that the site and review the problem.

Great service at a competitive price. They were a little late but it was an emergency same day appointment so I don't fault them for it. Highly recommended.

Phew! These guys came within an hour to remedy an unfortunate incident that left me without plumbing of any sort. It was not an easy fix. They snaked the main line clean out, went from the roof through the house to the side sewer and totally removed and reinstalled my toilet. They stuck to the price they quoted me even though the process was probably 90 more minutes than I thought it would be.
It literally brought tears to my eyes! They were so thorough. No zip through and back. They did each line at least twice and once they felt satisfied with the repair, they tested the lines by dropping tissue from the beginning and watching for it to pass by the clean out next to the sidewalk.
Both plumbers were professional but not stiff, personable and cleaned up after themselves. I had just had my floors done and they were careful not to mar them with their massive, get 'er done, equipment. Despite the fact that they were both wearing black pants, they let my gigantic dog shed all over them whilst she demanded adoration. They also prevented my smaller, escape artist dog from exploring the great out of doors by being careful to close the doors as they went inside and out.
Love these guys. Still, hope I don't have to see them again anytime soon.

I gave Rick 1 star as when I first called him on Tuesday he came when he said he would. He cleaned out the sewer pipe so i could use the kitchen sink.  I had a broken pipe outside that needed to be replaced.  He told me what he had to do and would be back on Thursday for sure. He not only didn't show up as promised but never responded to my phone calls or texts. I've never heard from him.  I finally called another plumber who gave superb service.

Our kitchen sink was clogged. We made it worse by trying to fix it. Called on a holiday, was seen that afternoon by Andre and Vernon. They assessed the situation, let me choose the route best for us, picked up extra necessary materials and came back and got to work. These technicians were knowledgeable, gracious, and understanding. Furthermore, they gave me lessons about what to do the next time it happens So the plumber may not be necessary. Great job guys!

Rick and his assistant were able to clear by severely clogged kitchen sink in about an hour.  They even updated my old metal pipes to make the plumbing current to today's standards.  I was very happy with the work they did.  He answered all of my questions and gave me preventative maintenance tips to avoid any future problems.  The price was reasonable and less expensive than other plumbers I called.  I would call him again if I ever have any trouble.

One of our two toilets (the only one my husband who is in a wheelchair could use) started leaking at the base.  Tried another plumber who couldn't come out until September, asked him for a referral and he gave me Rick's phone number.  I called and Rick answered.  I explained the situation and Rick came over right after finishing another job.  He and his technician were polite, professional and friendly.  They quoted the cost upfront, which was reasonable, and did the work quickly.  Our toilet is as good as new, if not better as they put in a better service line and bolts.    I would highly recommend Rock's Plumbing to anyone.

Loved that they showed up in a mask.   They were professional and kind.   They fixed three drains, a toilet, and a shower quickly.   I did not time them but they were sure out in a flash.   Hire them!  You will be happy you did.   Great service.

Called Rick in the morning about my busted water heater. He came over and took a look, gave me a price that was literally half of what some others had quoted, and returned later in the day with the new water heater. By dinner time, we had hot water, the old one was hauled away, and all was right in the world. Will definitely be calling Rick in the future for all my plumbing needs.

The main sewer pipe between my house and the street plugged up on a Saturday.   Called nearly a dozen plumbers with only two even bothering to return my phone call.  On Sunday afternoon a friend recommended Rick.   I called.   Within an hour or so he returned my call.   At that point it was too late to come out to my house but Rick promised to be at my home first thing Monday.   He was.  He seems very knowledgeable and professional.    He also treated me like an intelligent adult (for example based on how the pluming was acting I surmised the stoppage was near the curb, not under my house).   He agreed.

Rick showed up Monday morning when promised and quickly cleared the jam.   He also gave cautions on the likelihood of one occurring again (sadly, there's a tree right above the pipe).

His charge for his efforts was quite reasonable, far lower than other Yelpers have said they were charged by big franchises.

Knowledgeable, respectful, professional, honest, and reasonably priced.   What more can one ask for?

We were having serious water problems.  I called and within an hour Rick and his crew were at the house.  They identified the problem and fixed it in no time.  

They all were very professional, curtious and respected our space, even helped clean up the mess caused by the problem.

the most unprofessional service i have ever received, to the point that i now question the veracity of his other yelp reviews. i rarely use yelp but wanted to help inform others who are considering using his services. would not commit to a time to meet and vague about whether he was willing to work on the issue the same day. after arriving, he was unable to identify a simple leak in a sink, and promised to give estimates for other work to be done.

the estimate never came, and when i followed up on it he said he did not have time and to ask again. when i called again, he again did not have an estimate and said he was 'busy', but again promised to give an estimate. throughout the whole ordeal, he was completely unapologetic and made excuses.

in the end, we never got an estimate, and my husband who has NO plumbing knowledge whatsoever was able to identify and fix the leak.

Mike was fantastic. Very punctual, cordial, and professional. He came out same day and fixed our issue in under an hour. Can't speak to Rick or the rest of the team, but Mike was great and we would highly recommend him.

We are from out of the area, but are visiting our daughter and son-in-law on Alameda Island.  We had a backed-up kitchen drain on Friday morning with a kids' birthday party scheduled for the next day.. HELP!  I called Rick and, fortunately, he was able to come do the job right away.  His quoted price seemed fair.  He and his assistants were very personable and polite.  They worked quickly and professionally to clear the drain.  He installed a clean-out fitting to make future maintenance less of a problem.  He then pointed out some other pipe routing that he had noticed and explained why it may lead to future problems.  I had him fix that as well.  He ran into unexpected problems (the house is 100 years old) and had to do extra work, but said he would not charge any extra.   Neat, tidy, quick and professional quality work.  Highly recommended!

Where do I start?

I've used Rick's plumbing for various different job's on my 1950 home in Castro Valley, and the work, price and timing has always been excellent.

To date Rick has repaired leaks, sealed up some old plumbing, re-did the drains in the shower and just recently repaired a water main that broke under my front lawn.

Everytime I contact him, he's on time, does a great job and always surprises me with how low the price is.

Last night I noticed my lawn was completely saturated with water and realized we had a big problem. I called Rick, he answered the phone and agreed to come over the very next day. While I was at work, he dug up my lawn, 18 inches down, found the problem was a broken water main and gave me a call. After giving me the more than fair price I said do it. He got the parts, fixed the leak, and even put the lawn back together, I almost can't tell it was ever disturbed. He always leaves me the old parts and leaves the job clean.

All of this happened while I was at work, I came home to a completed job and my family doesn't have to go without water tonight, all in less than 24 hours.

This guy rocks in every sense of the word. If you want dependability, a great price, an honest job and fast work, this is the guy to call. I've used Rick's services a number of times over the last 4 years and I always get the same result.

These guy thought it would be okay to throw away their trash in my trash can when they weren't even doing work on my property. They were working on my neighbor's home. I watched them walk over to my trash, stuff my full trash can down(so now it's not going to empty because it's all jammed), and throw their nasty plumbing trash on top. Now I just walked out to my trash to try and fix it so it will empty when the trash truck comes... And maggots were crawling out of their trash... I'm blown away. Absolutely disgusted. I will be telling my property manager who contracts with this company. Hopefully they look into getting a new plumber.

I had Rick and his crew over earlier this year for a leaking copper line in my garage. Rick gave me a very great price I could not pass on. Him and his crew completed the work in a very timely manner and the work looked much better than the work that was completed by another plumber years back. Highly recommend calling Rick for an plumbing needs!

If you're looking for a plumber in Alameda you found your guy with Rick and his team. I had an old kitchen drain line in need of replacement plus the exhaust vent. I dug the pipe up myself to help it expose the problem and possibly save some money on having the plumber do it. I started to call around, most companies wanted from $175-$100 to come out for a house call. Not with Rick, I called Rick first thing in the morning and he was at my house by noon. Rick had one of the lowest bids I had received. And with his many years of experience plus having a great knowledge of old Victorians it made me feel comfortable going with him. Rick and his crew returned the next day with supplies to do the job at our scheduled time. They were efficient, professional, left the area cleaner than when they arrived. Rick will be my first call next time I need to address any plumbing issue at my place.

We had a broken pipe in a bathroom in our office building. I called several plumbers but no one could come and fix it before I left work. Rick came within a few hours and fixed the leak and put in some new aerators in the faucets and now everything is perfect. Very fast and best yet very reasonable pricing. We'll call Rick again.

Rick was responsive, informative, and affordable. He did a great job I cannot recommend him enough.

Got an appointment within 24 hours.  Team (two very polite young men) came on time, worked very hard, did not upsell.  I have a very old house and the plumbing is kind of hinky but they fixed everything, even though it required them going to a hardware store to find appropriate fixtures because of the age of the set-up.  Very fair rates.  Professional services.  I will definitely call them again.

I'm still giving them (Rick's team) a 5 star even though the wre a little late and didn't warn me.

That said, I had a clogged kitchen sink and a difficult setup. They went at it several ways and got it cleaned are running, probably better than it's ever run for many years. The didn't just get it moving, which I've had happen before because of the configuration of my pipes. They did the job right! It took a little over an hour. I definately recommend them.

I typically only review on Yelp to share great experiences. Sadly, I have to hold Rick and his team accountable for the terrible quality of work and service they provided me. I had to get a real plumber to redo much of the work and pass city inspection.

Let's start with the failed Alameda City inspection. While all my other contractors (two electricians, one gerneral contractor) were present at the inspection, Rick was chasing other dollars - he didn't show up. When I called asked him to come and fix the leak so it could pass, he refused. All my other contractors had to leave and come back after the issue was fixed - day wasted. (I asked Rick not to come back.)

I should have known better when he stopped communicating with me early on. In the run-up to the job, he only answered my call when I disguised my number. This told me that he only cares about one thing - new business.

He and his team of four young apprentices did a hatchet job on the exterior only my house while installing an on-demand heater unit.
The work one of his team didn't meet any kind of aesthetic standard you'd expect from professionals (see pictures). Rick saw this and suggested he improve the way it looked. His apprentice snapped back at Rick for telling him it was fine before walking off for a cigarette. The whole dramatic exchange happened in front of me. I couldn't believe it, but I was intrigued to see how Rick would handle it, figuring he would redo it himself. He never did.

I hate leaving bad reviews. I do. But I was vulnerable, not knowing what to expect and I feel like I made a huge mistake in hiring him and his team. I also feel obliged to share this so you can prevent yourself from having the same experience.

Rick and his great crew did a couple of jobs in my apartment in an 1892 Victorian in Alameda. Late last year he quickly identified and corrected improperly installed fittings on a gas stove. This week he replaced a failing toilet that was laboring with circa-1955 pipes and fittings.

He said he enjoys plumbing because of the constant variety he and his guys encounter in both old and new buildings. I can say that it was a pleasure and a relief having such solid pros in the apartment rescuing the fixtures.

Rick did the work for the house's management team at Cerda-Zein Realtors, an excellent Alameda-based company staffed with friendly and efficient professionals. Everyone I dealt with turned each repair process into a stress-free, pleasant experience.

I had a plumbing problem today rick came out today and helped me big time with a sewage problem. He came fast and worked professionally!!

My property management company sent this company to repair a leak. He came the first day, and looked at and told me he had to turn off the water supply to the whole apartment building to fix it, so he would have to come back the next day between 11 and 1.

The next day, 11 comes and goes, so does noon, and then at 1:30 I called to ask where they were. I was rather rudely told that 'something bigger had come up'. Now I understand emergencies happen, but I happen to know this guy works with at least 2  apprentices. Not a single one of you could spare 30 seconds to call and inform me?! He acted as if I was seriously inconveniencing him. So I asked when he could come and he said again the next day between 11-1. I said I am not staying home a second time if he isn't going to show up and he got all nasty with me saying he couldn't predict what would happen. I truly understand that. But it is not cool to expect people to stay home from work multiple days in a row on a chance that he *may or may not* show up. Really shady business practices.

I will give 2 stars because they did finally come and fix the problem. But zero stars for customer service. Seriously, I am sure there is another plumber out there that values your business enough to show up at an appointment time, or at least have the courtesy to call you.

The hot water in my bathroom sink would not shut off even after closing the valve under the sink. I called multiple plumbers no one was available. Finally called Rick and he was able to stop by within about 15 min between jobs and he and his assistants were to be able to get it fixed quickly. Thank you!

Rick came out promptly to diagnose and fix a sewer issue. Very efficient, professional, and informative. I'll be using him for any plumbing need I have in the future.

My property management company sent Rick to fix a problem with our toilet. He was highly professional and went above and beyond. He was able to come over as fast as I had wanted, and when he arrived was very professional. He addressed the main problem and even took care of an additional problem that my LL would not pay for, without charging me extra. He struck me as honest, hard working, competent and efficient. His assistant was also professional and explained exactly what they were doing. Thanks Rick!

I love this company because this was the first company who gave me the opportunity to learn about plumbing and work with customers Rick the owner I'm always gonna be grateful for giving me the chance and being off the streets

This guys finally shows up, doesn't fix the problem, takes your money, then never calls back when u call him with an issue. If zero stars was an option, I would choose that.

On January 24, 2023 around 3:30pm PST in front of Chipotle on 5th Street in Alameda; the driver of this Ricks Auto Van opened the van door and hit the side of my car door really hard. He looked me dead in my eyes and had no regard to apologize!! Complete irresponsibility, no accountability whatsoever. Poor integrity representing the company.

Rick's Plumbing has always been very professional, courteous, and on time. They make sure everything is in good working order before they leave. My last repair was a leaking tub faucet which they fixed very quickly. And, since I live in an old home, I get a lot of debris in my faucet filters and I really appreciate the fact that they cleaned them out without me having to ask them (including the kitchen sink and shower). Rick's really does a great job!!

Yesterday our sewage pipe backed up and it rose up into our bath tub! We have never experienced anything like this so there was a sense of panic. It was absolutely disgusting! Rick was recommended to me by a friend who has seen his work. I was concerned this was going to be a huge mess. We just got our floors and carpets replaced. Rick sent his team. Two very professional, super re-assuring, hella nice dudes! I overheard them talk while assessing the issue and came up with a game plan. They were able to snake the pipe from outside, no mess inside, and cleaned the tub after it drained! Thank you. I highly recommend and will never call any one else when we have another s*****y situation! Rick's Plumbing is the s*** yo!!!

Called several plumbers today, they either didn't answer or were booked through the weekend.  

I received a referral for Rick's by another plumber and quickly found his number online.  He answered even though he was on the job and deployed a technician in the time promised.  

What was even more impressive was Anthony, who was polite, made sure the issue was resolved by testing several times and then had me confirm to ensure my satisfaction.  He made sure not to drip on my floors and remembered a piece of the project was incomplete, really minor, but he made the effort to call to tie up his loose end.  

Straightforward, reasonable pricing, excellent service and great workmanship.  Personal checks only.

Just wonderful... I found Rick here on Yelp and I have not been sorry. I have a rental property in Alameda and since I live in San Jose, I really need a good, responsive, and reasonably priced plumber I can trust. Rick is all that and more. Very easy to deal with as he is willing to quickly communicate with the tenant to schedule a visit ASAP and has been very willing to accommodate their schedule, even if it means coming in the evening.

For those who live in Alameda, this should be your first call for any plumbing needs. Rick showed up within 30 minutes, figured out the issue and fixed it up one hour later. Extremely responsive and courteous!
