Pilot light went out on water heater late Friday. Called and emailed Ethan and he was on site at 0800 Saturday morning. Something bumped/hit the earthquake gas shut-off valve so it was a quick fix and he was on his way. Before he started his own company, he was the lead on the plumbing of my kitchen re-model. In 60+ years of dealing with plumbers I've yet to encounter anyone as thorough or professional as he and Scott, his partner in the business. Thanks again for everything Ethan!

Ethan is one-of-a-kind.

His services were resoundingly recommended by Alameda Peeps on FB and I was not disappointed.

First, he called to ask if it was okay if he came by earlier than planned (why, yes, please do! I responded gleefully). He came in and got right to work, figured out the problem, fixed it, and was done inside 10 minutes. Best part? The job required less work than the estimate, so he charged me less. Yup. Now THAT is good old fashioned (and super-rare in today's world) customer service.

He was also quite personable, which amounts to sprinkles on the icing on the cake.

Ethan's Plumbing is excellent and worth your time and money. We moved into our house in June of 2015. After about a year our hot water heater started having problem with its pilot light staying lit. Ethan's name on number were on it because they had installed it before we bought the house, so I called them for help. Scott showed up and fixed a factory defect in the time it's taken me to write this review. Their response was immediate, professional and instructive.

Last night our pilot light went out again. Ethan was booked all day, but after communicating throughout the day he found time to fit us in and stopped by to take a look. He identified the problem and fixed it, again, in just a few minutes.

The problem each time has been with the product the previous owner purchased and bad luck, and each time Ethan's Plumbing has come out to save the day. I cannot emphasize enough that he took time out of an already busy schedule to get us up and running again. That's above and beyond the call of duty, and it's why you shouldn't hesitate to call them when you need plumbing services.

Ethan was fantastic, we had our water heater stop working on a Friday night. Called a few places on Saturday morning and was either put on hold, had it go straight to voice mail, or was told by one gentleman that they don't work on GE (isn't that one of the larges brands?) and then we called Ethan. He was super friendly, arrived within an hour and in no time had our hot water running.

Ethan is the real deal. He solved a problem that 2 plumbers, 1 leak detection company, 1 contractor, and 1 handyman all misdiagnosed. I will be working to get refunded for their misdiagnoses.

Also, it only took Ethan 5 minutes to sniff around and find that my bathroom had been leaking in my bedroom closet right behind the bathroom. No one else thought to even look.

I am so relieved that Ethan not only figured out my problem quickly, but changed the copper wiring and was in an out within 30 minutes.

He is a lifesaver!!!!

Ethan is Great! We are so thankful that he accepted our urgent call at night and was able to help us first thing in the next morning. He spotted the leak from the tub upstairs which led to dripping downstairs. He fixed the leaky joint professionally and then clean it up afterward. Everything was perfect. Ethan and Scott are amazing!!!

Let me give you a bit of context: Six months that I have a problem with my dishwasher not working, another plumbing company came twice but never fix it and pretend they would come back later...which they never did and then ignored my calls and messages. Just to add to this nightmare of me having to chase this other company, I was also in my third trimester of pregnancy up to November and now with my newborn...

Finally, last week I am being recommended to contact Ethan's Plumbing by many (many Alamedans)... Few days later, thanks to them, my dishwasher/water line problem is an old story!
Not only they diagnosed the problem within a minute but they also solved it right away as they had the part(s) needed.

Thank you so much to them, they made my day and are now the one and only plumbing company we will ever trust and call in case of need!

Scott fixed a tub drain and a kitchen sink drain in my apartment. In both cases problems had arisen due to poor craftsmanship by whoever the previous plumber was. Like the other one star reviews, I too had the same issue with no return call. Even though my tile guy referred me to Ethan, and I included this information when I left the message for Ethan 3 weeks ago, I did not get a call back. I reached out to my tile guy and let him know that I do not yet have plumber so we're not ready to start the remodel, and explained that I had not heard back from Ethan, the tile guy reached out to Ethan and asked him to call me; unfortunately Ethan still has not called me back. I don't need to try this hard to find somebody to do a job for me, so I'm moving on to the next plumber.

My go to plumber, as a property manager I often need to have a plumber respond quickly to keep my tenants happy. Ethan, Mijo and Scotty are quick, knowledgeable and have the supplies on the truck so the repair doesn't linger on unfinished. On the down side, because he is so popular, sometimes I call and he say's no- I'm booked solid for the next week. Ughh hate when that happens but at least he lets me know. :)

Feeling chagrined and irritated...so here we thought we had found this great plumber and we were so pleased to have that resource checked off in our new home. Well, on Saturday, water started backing up into the tub and toilet in one bathroom. We called Ethan immediately and left a message. Today it's Tuesday, and after two calls/messages to Ethan, we have heard nothing back--and the water is backing up into both bathrooms, and I am quietly freaking out. We did, of course, start calling other plumbers, and someone will be here shortly. But not Ethan, who has lost a customer and a 5 star yelp review.

If you have any plumbing issue, Ethan is the man to call! I needed to replace an old 1950's toilet and called Ethan on a Monday afternoon and had a a beautiful Toto toilet installed by 9:00 am the next day! After he had quoted a price and was on site, I asked if he would install a bidet that I had purchased and never installed. He willingly did so and did not increase his fee. He's knowledgable, friendly, talented and is accompanied on his rounds by a beautiful little chihuahua-min pin companion named Mijo! You can never go wrong working with a dog lover! Hire him for your plumbing needs! You will be a happy camper!

Ethan is a 5-star driver! While I've not utilized his plumbing services, he's likely the first business I'd call if needed. Most days of the week we drive a similar route at the same time and he's a diligent driver friend. This was my first time using Ethan's Plumbing and I couldn't be more pleased. Ethan was very informative and took the time to explain to me the difference between a tankless water heater and the traditional water heater. On the day of our appointment, he arrived about 5 minutes early and was done in less than a hour taking out our old water heater and putting in the new one. Called at 8:15 a.m. for a leak under the sink - they answered the phone! The truck was at my place by 2:40 p.m. and they gave me an estimate and fixed it in less than 20 minutes - no mess, no water on the floor - they even took the broken parts away. Price was good! I had used Ethan's Plumbing a few years ago to replace our old hot water heater. Actually not just replace but upgrade from a standard 40 gal. to a 50 gal. to accommodate my son's walk-in bath tub. Excellent work and very fair pricing.
So when I had a leaking shower pipe connection to my shower head, I feared that it would hardly be worth Ethan's time to come by. Instead he immediately returned my call after an email to his website describing the problem.
Came out that morning and immediately identified the cause and made the quick repair--replacing a worn washer! I figured there would be some kind of fee for the service call. Instead I was asked, Was that all or was there something else? When I apologetically said, That's really it he simply said, We'll catch you later. So there was no charge. What great customer service and Ethan has this customer for life!

Ethan's Plumbing is great!! Ethan and Scott are my go to Plumber's. I'm never disappointed in their ability to handle my plumbing needs. I live in an older home (over 100 years old), so there are frequent plumbing needs to be attended to. Ethan and Scott are familiar and knowledgeable about older homes. I have used their services for hot water heaters, plumbing needs, bathroom and kitchen leaks, toilet replacement, etc. You name it......I've called them for it!! Some calls were scheduled, some calls were of an emergency nature. Never once has Ethan failed to respond to my calls for service. Ethan and Scott are professional, prompt, polite, trustworthy and most of all........excellent plumbers. I've never (ever) had to call them a second time in regards to work performed. Late last night our sewer got clogged and started backing up, causing a lot of stress in our 1920s one-bathroom house. We called a bunch of plumbers, but Ethan was the only one who picked up. He came over EARLY this morning -- squeezing us in before his other scheduled appointments -- and got the sewer unclogged right away. When I called back I was abruptly told there was no warrantee on the work. I had to call another company, Rick's Plumbing, to finish the job. I would highly recommend Rick's.

We noticed that our sinks and shower were draining slowly. Since we were going to have guests over the following week, I called some plumbers in the area, and Ethan's Plumbing was the most responsive. Ethan told me that someone would be by the next day, and was accommodating with my schedule. The next day, Scott showed up promptly and was quick to fix the problem and offer some tips.

Fast forward a week or so later, I realized I needed a receipt for my landlord. I emailed Ethan's Plumbing, and received a reply with a detailed invoice a few hours later. Highly recommend these guys!

I found my Sewer line leaking, a contracting friend from Alameda recommended Ethan's. They are GOOD, will explain any detail of the job needed for your full understanding, they acquire permits and have the job inspected officially and as someone who deals with contractors a lot, Id use these guys AGAIN AND AGAIN! I called Ethan's plumbing when I had a plumbing issue and the first great sign: they actually answered the phone!

I made an appointment to come to my house the following week and another great sign: they came exactly on time!

Ethan fiixed all my issues, and a couple of extra ones I asked about while he was here; in the stated time for the price he quoted me! He also recommended future repairs that would be needed with lots of cost alternatives and no hard-sell.

Ethan is not only quick to respond to phone calls, he works quickly and quietly, too, on the job. He tells us what we need to know, helps us make decisions if necessary, and he cleans up after himself (and us). We think his rates are reasonable and that we are getting our money's worth. In a freak coincidence, when I called this Ethan he was 1 block away from my house. He was there so quick we were still on the phone when he pulled up. He accessed the situation expertly and with lightening speed. He had to leave to grab a tool from Oakland and when he returned, he was able to fix the problem within 5-10 minutes. My traumatic plumbing experience turned into meeting an awesome person, his lil road dog and best of all a reliable, honest plumber that has a contagious cheerful disposition. I can't wait to have something go wrong again so I can get Ethan to fix it!

Wow! I am so impressed with Ethan's and their honesty and professionalism. I emailed them Monday and by Tuesday morning we were able to set up a visit that same morning! Scott came by on time and assessed the issue very quickly. As it turned out, the issue was not the plumbing or pipes but rather the caulking around the sink. Water was seeping thru the old caulking so there was no plumbing to repair. As a result, there was no charge for the visit! I offered to at least pay for gas but they refused. They even gave me a couple of referrals to fix my sink. If their honesty and professionalism from this service call is indicative of the type of business they run and work, I am sure to call them again in the future. Just as an FYI, I got referred to them from a friend who's lived in Alameda for over 40 years so she knows who's really good at their work and I trust her. I was not let down. Thanks Ethan's!

Now this is what you call service. My mother-in-law needed to have her kitchen faucet replaced, and I was unable to do so with my limited tools. Per Pagano Hardware's recommendation, I called Ethan's plumbing this morning. They were able to come in 1 hour earlier than originally scheduled, and replaced the faucet. The original estimate was $150.00, but my mom-in-law received a $30 senior discount. Great honest service!

This morning at 6:30 am my wife woke me up with the news that our washer was flooding the garage. I went out to try to turn off the water but couldn't. I finally turned off the main. I called Ethan at 6:45 am and he actually called me back at 7 am and said he was on his way. He had the problem fixed in less than 20 minutes and at a price that I consider very reasonable. He is our HERO!

Ethan is so amazingly awesome! We discovered we had no hot water on Saturday night when it was time for kiddos shower. Went to boil some water for bath and found gas flames super low too. Sunday morning looking for quotes, texted Ethan. He replied quickly. Unfortunately he wasn't working but had an idea what my problem was. He requested I text him a pic of my gas meter. Then he told me how to reset my shut off valve. He even called me a couple of times when I texted back some questions ( because my husband and I aren't familiar with this stuff). In the end, we have high flames on stove and hot water again!
How many plumbers would give advice if they can't come do the job? Anyway, we're so impressed with his help and integrity, we will definitely use him again for any future plumbing needs!

I just had a water heater installed. I really liked these guys. I first talked to a plumber with a lower estimate over the phone. After the plumber got to my house, the estimate went up by 50%. Ethan's Plumbing asked questions to clarify my situation, came by and checked my installation the same day that I called, and ended up doing the job for $50 less than their estimate. I never expected the final bill to be less than their written estimate.

The two guys that did the installation did it rapidly, left no mess, and were polite and friendly. All around a good experience.

I called Ethan at 7:58 Monday morning, because his hours started at 8am; I didn't want to get the busy signal. I chose to call Ethan (amongst a plethora of other plumbers) because I figured that if he's willing to put his name on his business, he works knowing that people will know his name at the end of the job, and that's directly related to his reputation...

Anyway: Asked him to come ASAP; he said 11am, but ended up coming at 10am. I had a bad thermocouple on my new water heater. He worked quickly, even let me ask a bunch of questions and hover over him to watch what he was doing (so I can do it myself next time, I'm sure he figured that part out). 15 minutes and he was done. Awesome!

The plumbers arrived timely, were very professional and courteous. Two faucet installations. Leaks under the kitchen sink repaired. A filtration system installation in the kitchen for which they did extra work to secure and fit into the small space under the sink. One toilette repair plus unexpected work on the sewage piping. Great work on the faucets but not so much on the toilet.

The same toilet issues arose the next day and the plumber refused to return for a proper fix.

This review is long overdue. A few months ago we had trouble finding a plumber available to fix our backed up sink. Ethan responded to our voice message right away, and came by the next day.

Then he came out and quickly finished my sink- which made my mom very happy as she seemed to clog it up a lot.

This plummer was recommended by a local hardware store. We thought that this would mean a solid and responsive professional. We called Ethan Elkin Plumbing four times for an urgent sewer backup problem at our house. Each time we called, we gave a detailed explanation of our problem and marked our messages as 'urgent'. This person did not even have the common courtesy of returning our calls, leaving us in the air waiting. He is a great disappointment, very unresponsive, uncaring and unprofessional. We reported this experience to the hardware store and advised them to not give out Ethan's name anymore since this person's actions would certainly reflect on the reputation of the hardware store. They agreed. He actually deserves no stars.

Ethan is great! I had some water damage in the ceiling under an upstairs bathroom. After hearing some water dripping after someone used the toilet and sink, I thought it might be from one of those in that bathroom. I contacted Ethan via email and he asked some questions about the problem and we set up an appointment. He arrived on time and quickly located the issue which was an old wax ring on the toilet. He already had the parts in a tray he had brought with him and replaced it. I also asked him about a leak in the master bath, and he located and fixed that problem as well.
The charge for the work was very reasonable. He was very friendly and professional, and I would recommend him to anyone without hesitation.

We have known Ethan for over 20 years. He is honest and fast and fair. He just finished aueto shut off values for us on 6 homes we own in Alameda. He did the work with Scott. His total time was around 2.5 hours with minimal disturbance to our residents. He has taken over much of the business that a plumbing company with 9 trucks used to have in Alameda.

Ethan was great to work with! We did a light bathroom renovation with him. He came highly recommended by Michael Busk, who did all our tile work. When I mentioned his name to Style, Bath, and Kitchen, they said we had the best.

He did all our plumbing work for the project, took out our old tub, and installed our new one. He did great work and did it all on time. He's also just fun to interact with.

Use Ethan's Plumbing twice. Once for some suspected water hammer or some type of loud banging in pipes. Ethan came out and assessed situation and provided a solution he thought might work (it helped). I used them again for some plumbing issues at another property. Scott showed up and replaced some corroded faucets and supply valves and fixed a main shut off valve leak. The service is quick and straightforward. They are respectful of covid protocols. Would definitely recommend and use again.

Looking for a plumber is hard work. I am glad that I found Ethan here on Yelp.

The water line to the refrigerator broke when the fridge was moved away from the wall to clean behind it and water had been dripping down through the floor into a hole the water line had been placed through for days leaving water damage to the grout, sub-floor and beams underneath and into the basement onto the wall of the house; we could not find the cut off.

Ethan came in, took a look at the fridge, went to the basement and took a look, found the cut off which looked nothing like anyone without knowledge of plumbing would have expected, told me the name of the cut off, explained how it worked, removed the line and then came upstairs and gave me more information.

I asked how much it would cost to get a new water line installed, he gave me the price range.

A small cost for a quick removal and tons of information!

I am elated that I found our new plumber!!!

I needed a plumber for my claw foot tub because it was leaking. My flat was built somewhere around 1915 and that means alot of the stuff is old. I had replaced my faucet and in-going lines but the inlets to the hot and cold were toast. After all of that work I wasn't in the mood to crawl under the place and replace the two lines.

I looked at Yelp for local plumbers and found Ethan's Plumbing. I called Ethan, he came over, surveyed the problem and gave me a quote. I thought the quote was reasonable and couple days later Ethan came over to do the job. He changed the inlet pipes with copper piping and also the valves. He did a nice job on soldering the copper and ensuring that there were no leaks.

Another plus is that he billed me over an email address and I was able to pay for services via credit card. He is definitely worth calling if you have plumbing problems.

We were renters in our last home in an old Victorian home - Ethan was our landlords favorite contractor and he swore that Ethan knew his stuff. When we bought our own 125 yo home recently, we knew we'd call Ethan for the plumbing work we needed done - plumbing isn't something we want to roll the dice on and we wanted a competent plumber

He recently replaced all of our galvanized with copper and installed a new tankless water heater for us. He was on time, finished in his quoted time, and easy to work with paperwork wise given his upfront quote and use of quickbooks for payment. Most importantly, he's a joy to have around - hard worker with a fun and humorous disposition. We're going to work with him for our upcoming bathroom remodels and we know he'll do a great job.

He's a one man shop so sure he might take a day or two to get back to you. But he'll do great work and you won't have to worry abt costly plumbing breaks down the road.

Ethan and Scott are our plumbers. l can't tell you how awesome that feels to be able to say that.

They do really great work, are on time, and fairly priced.

They have moved a washer and dryer for us, installed a water line to our refrigerator, and installed a new Toto Promenade toilet (never thought I'd constantly be remarking how much l love a toilet to myself and to my husband, but here I am). They are scheduled to come and do more work soon. Ethan returns texts, calls, and emails, but l think your safest bet for communication is email if it's not an emergency plumbing issue.

I texted and called Ethan before 8 AM this morning because his name was written on the water heater in the house we purchased last year - and the water heater wasn't working. Within ten minutes he was at my house diagnosing my problem - which, despite the error codes on the water heater, ended up being a gas issue. He kindly re-set my gas shut-off valve and didn't charge me a thing. What a great guy - I will definitely recommend him to my friends.

When it comes to plumbers, it doesn't get much better than Ethan's Plumbing! From the start of my cafe, Ethan was available for questions and had great advice during my equipment purchases and was always 100% reliable - when he said he'd do something, he not only did it but did it fast and on time! I can't recommend his services enough. He did everything that was illustrated on the plans and asked questions when something didn't make sense. I have an old bathroom sink faucet that has needed repair for awhile. Since my Fiancée was going to stay over since being in town, I decided to fix it. I've taken it apart to replace a washer before, but this time, another part came loose and came out. Oh nooo...don't how to put that back? Next morning I called and two plumbers didn't answer. This was the next day after the Fourth of July. Ethan was my third try and he answered right at 8AM , his listed open time. He told me to send him pictures and after sending him the picture of it taken apart, he said he could do it and be by in two hours or less. No problem for me to be home. I was heading out for my regular walk when I noticed Ethan's truck parked. He was in the area and wow..,surprised me. I went back inside to unlock the back door. Turns out that later he needed to go to his truck for the tool to replace that little part I had pulled out. After reassembling, he tested to make sure there were no leaks, and quite soon he was done! There are two sinks for the master bedroom bathroom, and now my Girl has working faucet on her side of the counter. Thanks to Ethan, for his prompt, efficient, reasonably priced...leaking faucet repair. Now my Girl has a good working faucet/ sink all to herself!

Ethan was able to swing by my house (with my permission) to quote installation of a new water main pipe underground. The price was reasonable and included permit fees.

Installation started at 8AM few days later and took the morning to complete. I had to go to work and Ethan kept me posted on progress by text. Everything went as expected.

I'm writing this review more than 6 months late and can still say everything still works as it should. Thumbs up!

We had Ethan Plumbing replace our water heater just yesterday. I do my research before I let anyone in our home. I also did a lot of research on water heaters I wanted one made in America, Let's kept America working people. Well when I spoke to Ethan He said yes he could get the Bradford White water heater I had found not only made here put is one of the top. He was great when he came to give me a quote. Quick and all business. This guy knows his stuff! He gave me a quote which made it possible to get the work done within a couple of days. He and his workers are all nice and efficient. This is a business I would recommend to anyone that needs a plumber.

Ethan rocks!!

Our condo's water heater died (Friday) New Year's Day morning. I thought for sure that we would be without hot water for the 3-day holiday weekend. Ethan called me back the next day, Saturday morning. He was timely and provided us with a very reasonable quote. We agreed to the quoted price and he told us the water heater was in stock locally and he could install it that day!! Low and behold, we had hot water before dinner time that day!! Ethan is our hero!!

Ethan's Plumbing completed my request quickly and efficiently. I made my request one evening online and within one hour had a response that someone would call me the next day during office hours. I did get a call and had an appointment 48 hours later. The 2 hour window worked well and my plumber arrived, looked over my job and got to work. He cleaned up afterwards and presented the bill which was reasonable. I would use them again.

I have known Ethan for the past ten years, he has repaired various plumbing issues at three different homes I rented in Alameda. Ethan is always a pleasure to do business with, he is friendly, precise in his diagnoisis, no call backs, leaves his work area as clean if not cleaner than when he came in to do the repair. I called Ethan today with a leaking kitchen sink issue, he is scheduled to do the repair tomorrow, always so easy to work with Ethan and schduling is a breeze as he is considerate of the working clients busy schedule. Ethan is professional, fair, and prompt. Not only is he fantastic at his trade, he runs an efficient, local business that I would absolutely use again and recommend to friends. When we had a broken exit pipe that needed quick attention (car accident in the garage...oops), Ethan made time at the end of his busy day to make the emergency repairs on the same day I called (after several other local plumbers said they either didn't have time or weren't sure they would be able to make the repair). In an hour, Ethan had completely fixed the pipe and connected us w a fabulous contractor to finish the job. He came back to double check his work and ensure that all the plumbing leading to the pipe was in perfect working order. I have total confidence in Ethan's work and appreciate him going above and beyond to make time for a challenging job, charge a fair price and help a new resident find other quality providers. Super efficient, punctual, right-priced.
Our kitchen sink was clogged, and the technician did an excellent job unclogging it. In addition, he replaced the pipes as the ones we had could potentially rust and leak. All the job was done well, and very fast.

Ethan was able to come out to our house the same day we called to replace our water heater, but there were a couple issues with his service. The first was that he did not appear to empty the water heater before moving it, even though he had the hose to do so. Instead he tried to move it himself even though he had other staff working on the same block as our house and could have presumably called for some short-term assistance.
In trying to move a heavy water alone down our back porch, he gouged all three wooden steps of our newly built back porch. While he took off $100 off the bill to account for his damage, but that did not cover what it took us to repair it given the type of damage done. If he had not been in such a rush and taken that shortcut, the damage could have been prevented.
He also said he would clean up the rust on the gas pipeline in the water heater closet, but he did not. Nor did he remove the old steel strapping from the previous water heater. Instead he left it dangling on the wall.
We would not use his service again unless it was an absolute emergency and we could not find anybody else.
