We have had polarizing experiences with A.B. May.  About a year ago we bought a new HVAC through them, and had a wonderful experience.  As part of that deal, we received a year of a Gold Plan membership, which, unfortunately, has not lived up to it's promise.

A few weeks ago we requested service to fix some leaks and to replace some faucets.   After having a bad experience with a specific plumber in a previous problem, we requested that specific plumber not be present.  When they finally arrived, about 4 hours after the window we requested (remember, we have gold plan priority!), not only did one plumber arrive, but the plumber we requested to not see showed up to supervise.  In retrospect, we should have immediately asked them both to leave, but, having the gold plan, we felt somewhat locked in to doing business with them, as we were expecting a discount.  After a diagnosis, we were told our outdoor faucets were not freeze resistant and needed to be replaced.  We ultimately signed a quote for about $260.  Turns out, we were charged $430 (we got a discount on drilling through concrete, something they didn't mention they'd have to do when the TWO technicians present looked at the problem.)  Not only was it way over the price quoted, when the technician took our existing faucet off, he said something along the lines of, hmmm... you already had a freeze resistant unit.  Also- it leaks just as badly as our old one!  So, $430 spent, and we're in the same place as we were before.

The last straw, however, was this past week.  We had a main-line clog, and a large puddle of solid waste in our basement.  We called them around 8 p.m. for emergency service, which we should have as priority as Gold members.  We got a call from someone who said a plumber would be there sometime that night.  Come midnight we called back, and the same guy told us to just go to bed.  Around 6:45 a.m. we missed a call asking us if anyone had shown up.  Around 7, we called again and were told we were on the list for that day.  When we tried to get an estimate on what time we'd receive service, they wouldn't confirm that we'd receive it that day at all.  We were transferred to a manager who denied that we could have talked to someone the evening before.  After waiting 15 hours, with a putrid puddle of solid waste in our basement, unable to run water to clean it, we decided to take our business elsewhere.

In the past two years, this company has gotten over $10k from us.  We are happy with our HVAC.  Unfortunately, each experience we've had with their plumbing has been appalling.  When they bother to show up, they make us feel like our house is falling apart.  They're rude, pushy, and don't do a good job.

I contacted ABMAY as we have a contract with them for home appliances, to come to our home to fix an air conditioning problem, and within an hour a very courteous tech was at my door. My wife who normally handles these situations was at work at the time and when she came home seeing the ABMAY truck outside, told me that we had a contract with another company for our air conditioner.
The tech was very gracious about this awkward situation and didn't charge a thing for my mistake.
A GREAT COMPANY WHO VALUES CUSTOMERS FIRST!

I called to make an appointment and it took two days to come out to fix a few minor plumbing repairs.  They couldn't make it out the day they said so I waited another two days. When they come out, these small plumbing problems turned into 500 bucks!  I was expecting no more than 250.  The next morning I see there is a leak under the kitchen sink.  That wasn't even one of the problems I called about.  This was the plumbers fault.  I find this leak on Sunday and they can't send anyone out to the house on Sundays unless you have a contract with them.  So I have to wait until Monday while my cabinets soak up the water.  First and LAST time they get my business!

We recently had our routine maintenance on our furnace done by A. B. May. The technician that serviced it was friendly, professional and did a great job. We have always had great service from this company but Soencer went above and beyond to provide such good service. He is an asset to the company.

We just had a new AC and furnace installed. We have used a few of the big names in KC previously but decided to let AB May come out and look at our system when it failed. I am glad I did. Awesome and very professional service. When we were going over options they were not pushy but gave us all the options. I am glad we let them handle it.

The employee who came to both my properties on 07/24/15 was clearly interested in only one thing - selling new units.  At the first property he immediately started his conversation about how old the units were and that they needed to be replaced.  On the second property, he refused to add coolant because the unit was the cheapest unit on the market and not worthy of a $2,000 repair (it's only 5 years old).  He wanted to send somebody else out, for an additional $89 service call plus whatever associated costs because he wasn't comfortable working on this unit.

This man is clearly a huckster, sent here by AB May for pre-sales canvassing instead of performing routine maintenance functions as pre-paid for in the maintenance agreement.

Two additional instances of poor service surrounding this situation includes that fact that their office didn't call before the tech arrived, but called an hour after his arrival, and when I originally called to schedule the semi-annual tune-ups, I was informed that it would be over two weeks before time was available.

Why in the world would anybody in their right mind want to do business with a company that wants money up-front, makes you wait multiple weeks for an appointment, sends out a tech who only wants to sell new equipment, and then wants to charge even more for additional trips when the original tech doesn't want to do his job?

Update: Bumped it up to 3 stars based on the follow up.  We are now just waiting on the repair to happen.

A senior technician came out to follow up and it was a night and day difference in professionalism between the 2 furnace techs.    He looked at the furnace after I explained the problem and we reached a solution, now we are just waiting on the part for the repair.

The only other thing is we still only received one phone call, not the 2.  Not an issue since we were working outside and saw him drive up the subdivision.

This company will definitely overcharge you. They will claim that they use national rates but what they do not tell you is that, if they repair three items in an hour, you will be charged as if they made 3 separate visits. You will be pressured to be part of the Gold program which will cost you $60/month. Your billing will be all lumped together. They will not tell you the cost of parts and the cost of labor - it will be a flat sum. I recommend that you go somewhere else.

I go to church with Dan who works for AB May.  So when I had AC trouble I called Dan.  So much for knowing someone.  Way overpriced for what you get.   I won't make that mistake again.  I will stay local for a lot lot less.

We have the gold plan, and having it, we have save tons of money. The fluorescent tubes in our kitchen was going out. I called on a wed, thinking that was enough time to get a tech out by Friday. They were so booked up that someone couldn't get to me until Tue of the next week. When I told the dispatcher that I had guest coming on Sat, she checked with someone, then told me someone will get to me the next day.

Mark/120 he the tech that came to service the lights. He is a very professional nice man. I was so grateful that he cared enough to fit us in his schedule that was already full. Also, I don't remember the dispatcher's name that took my service call, but I'm so grateful to her as well. She was kind enough to schedule service for the next day. She didn't have to do that, so I really appreciated it. I have always been pleased with the service. BTW, the warranty didn't cover the lights/part, but the price was very reasonable.

Please be careful when using their services. Be sure to get an estimate with other places before using them. My father is an older man and his hot water heater went out a couple of days ago( today is 12/17/18). He called for an estimate and was told it would be $1400 (approx but not less than 1400). The rep could not explain exactly what this $1400 entailed but the rep informed that this amount included a warranty but not a specific breakdown. The price probably included installation, but how much!!!???? My father declined and picked up one from Home Depot for $650 and a warranty. This was not the first time they have tried to get over, previously they told him he needed a new furnace which is still intact. He has used them previously and they are always looking for ways to get more money out of him. I only gave them 1 star because I have to or else they would get none. Stop trying to get over on people!!!!!

I suppose I will submit an older experience because it appears from some of the more recent reviews that this company has some serious ethical and accountability issues.

Sept of 2011 we purchased a new house in Johnson County KS. It came with a home warranty from AB May. In Spring of 2012, we had our AC unit serviced and we were sold a gold agreement. We had them come out on a few occasions for the standard $60 fee. The annual plan increased twice between 2012-2017.

They were always pushy on trying to up sell services after making a house call. For instance, they recommended buying a $60 bottle of drain cleaner to prevent clogs. Stating it was all natural. I've discovered I can spend $10, follow the directions and unclog all my drains whenever I want and I still have product to last another couple years. It was fifty fifty on the expertise level on what I expected and what I would receive. We gave a few 5 star work reviews but we also received our service fee back twice for poor performance.

So anytime you are giving a company hard earned money and expect good work then it's not difficult to wonder why half the time the work was good. It never dawned on me that if they screw up on simple fixes then perhaps they have little credibility on big issues.

For instance, we had a water softener installed. Come to find out it has power but that's it. A real plumber took a look at the device and said it's non-operable. They are great salesmen but horrible at installing water softener.

Then we had a furnace issue. They told us the gas line was leaking. Told us could get someone out that day cause it's an emergency but just 30 minutes earlier they said the furnace fan was inoperable and the part would take a few days. So after talking with their sales guy I declined to purchase a $9500 system. I had a real hvac guy come out and he said if you don't smell gas then you don't have a leak. It was a ploy to get us to fear the worse and we realized AB May and it's owner are in the business to trick customers into believing the worst just to keep them in business.  Turns out only the furnace blower switch was bad. We optioned to have a brand new system put in for $7500 by Patriot Heating/Cooling (Shawnee) and our top AC bill was only $175 last summer and our gas bill has averaged $110/mo during winter months.

That's not all. They signed my signature without my knowledge on two separate occasions. I asked the first time why it happened and the worker said because they have commercial accounts that they can't begin the work until they get a signature. I'd say those commercial accounts are too trusting. If AB May is lying to its private customers just imagine what their commercial accounts don't know!

The owner and I exchanged a few emails but the response each time was basically we condone dishonesty but we don't see what we did wrong but we will make it right if you tell us. Believe me I have stacks and stacks of documentation of how they lied, forged my signature and attempted to bait me into buying one of their whole systems. They like playing games but eventually they will lose.

Stay as far away as possible from this outfit. Did you know Berkshire Hathaway now has a partnership with this company?

I've used A.B. May for the past six months and I am definitely pleased with their service.  I had a maintenance visit scheduled today, Greg. S. Was the technician and he was professional, thorough, provided excellent explanations and answered all of my questions.  When I scheduled the appointment, it was easy, quick and they called as they promised.  I highly recommend them.

We are with AB May for almost a year. We had few issues ( Plumbing & A/c)and they fixed it fast, except today!  The reason I am wring it today, we had issue with water blockage in our kitchen sink. They send a technician at 2:45 pm , spent 2 hrs and diagnosed that we had a major issue and need $865.00 to fix it! and also told me the reason for blockage was in his own statement people from third world countries put rice and oil in the sink ' . This statement was upsetting as it sounded like he was blaming us for blockage issues !  More specifically speaking, a racist statement . I  called the service manager and complained. She apologized and sent  Eric Kern, who found the problem and fixed it!  He left at 8:15 pm. He is a very knowledgeable person. They didn't charge any single penny for that work! We appreciate the way AB May management handled this case.  So if anybody has any issue with Tech , call and talk to the managers directly  and they will find a solution for you.
We recommend AB May to any body.

We had issues with our plumbing and required AB May to come out and fix them.  While the technician was out he was very professional and courteous.  He was willing to answer all of our questions and did not seem bothered by our presence.  The technician was clean and left our house cleaner than when he came (he wiped down all tile and walls that were near the work area). The technician fixed the issues timely and completely in one trip.  I would highly recommend AB May to friends based on the experience we had with the plumbing technician.

Called AB May out to look at my AC. They would not give me a ETA so I had to wait by the phone all day for a call. I called to make my appointment, and the answer service took my number to have the company call me back. They called me back but failed to update my number, so my 1st appointment was canceled. I didn't even get a email notice. They came out the next day, and were not able to explain the problem, so suggested a new unit. Two different people provided very different prices. I paid close to $400 for a service fee and freon, but the AC is still not cooling my home. I would not recommend this company to anyone. Also they are very expensive!

This company is a complete SCAM! AB May came referred to me and I have had nothing but PROBLEMS with this company. They like to use the term NOT PROPERLY INSTALLED. I have only had 2 service calls with them and both times they said the work wasn't covered because it was not properly installed by their terms. On the other hand I have the professional that installed our Jacuzzi tub saying it is, so it becomes a he say she say situation in terms of legality. Once I told them I needed this leak fixed no matter what (I HAVE WATER COMING THROUGH AN ELECTRICAL OUTLET) and I was going to pay out of pocket, I was then told they do not have time to do the job. I was then told that the owner was going to come by and take a look at it and I got ahold of the owner Craig Freeman and he knew nothing about this. So I not only was scammed but I was lied to. DO NOT BELIEVE THEM when they do their walk through service inspection! I had 2 items on report that were not working properly at the time of inspection (therefore they were not covered) But everything else would be covered. Both of my service calls had nothing to do with the 2 noted issues and they STILL DID NOT ONLY COVER IT BUT LEFT IT UNFIXED. I am waiting to here back from the owner to see if they are going to take care of this or if I am going to have to go the legal route. I am a business owner myself and this is just not right!!

My AC unit went out and was taking bids. Salesperson showed up 20 min late. Gave me some prices that were about $1000 over what everyone else was giving. When I told him I was getting bids, he stood up and walked out. He stated that These are 'good guy' deal prices only good if I wrote a check today.

Or less than 1 star.
Called AB May today to ask a question about efficiency of putting our two $10K Trane Heat Pumps on EM Heat as another company had suggested to a friend for her own house. AB May offered to send a technician out to answer my question for a fee. $20,000 spent with them, and this is their customer service to a simple question. I think not. Too many other fabulous  less expensive companies to choose from, who I am sure would be glad to reach out to me by phone and discuss the options of use on HVAC efficiency.

Also, when we moved to town, we were told that AB May is the most expensive company and not to use them due to that.

Very unimpressed, would never recommend, nor will ever purchase from them again.

A.B. May is a great locally run company for home warranty and service needs.  We've had American Homeshield for our previous homes and while the packages they offer seem to have more value, A.B. May employees its own technicians and the service has been consistently good, so I've been happy with them thus far (past 2+ years).

Update:  Here is a response I received from AB May after my review:

Hi Jason, I apologize for the frustration that was a result of the service call from A.B. May.  I am going to pass this along to Chuck who is the manager of that department.  I will also make certain that I follow up on this so that your needs are taken care of.  Again, I apologize for the inconvenience and look forward to resolving this issue.  Thank you for bringing this to our attention.  Have a wonderful Monday.

It's been 2 weeks and I still have not received a call.  Pathetic!

Went through Home Depot to have a HVAC system installed in a historic home in Leavenworth, Kansas.  A.B. May was the selected provider to install this system.  This company was recommended to me by a skilled carpenter who had A. B. May install his HVAC system.   My wife and I used A.B.May primarily because of this referral and the financing available through Home Depot.

The quoted price and Trane HVAC system were both good choices.  From that point, everything went downhill.  The install started in the winter 2007- but stopped because the workers needed the crawl space dug out to install duct work. (My wife and I still work full time in Phoenix, AZ - we were unable to find anyone available to dig out the crawl space on short notice).  Our original sales representative left the company so we had no responsive contact within AB May.  Work resumed the next summer, once I returned to Leavenworth and dug out the area in the crawlspace.  The install team did not respond to my requests where I wanted the HVAC vents placed, plus training on owner maintenance and equipment use was nearly nonexistent.

The good news in 2011 is the Trane HVAC system is working just fine.  Would I ever use A.B. May again in the KC metro area... probably not.  A one star rating is generous!!

We had an old ceiling fan the kick the bucket in our family room on an 8 foot ceiling. We called AB May , they said they could get out in a few days and we made an appointment to install a fan that I had already bought all they had to do was put it where the other fan was and take the other fan down for me to discard. It was my great mistake of not getting a quote but I didn't think I would need a formal quote on $100-$150 service call. Oh my God when he handed me the bill of $650 for his 20 minutes of labor and 1$2. dollar and 50 Cent junction box I almost pooped my pants. I had no choice but to write him a check for $650. Absolute highway robbery and theft he should've been arrested. Needless to say we will never have them on our property again.Tim T.

AB May came to fix one of our furnaces on 12/30.  They also opened up the other (working) furnace for some reason.  We wake up the next day (Friday) and that second (working) furnace was no longer working at all.  Obviously the tech did something to it inadvertently.  We immediately called AB May to get someone out to address it and we're told we would have to wait till Monday.  I explained that it was the result of THEIR tech, and there was no apology no remorse.  Frankly the just didn't care.  I called another company, they came in an hour and got it running, so we didn't have to find a hotel for the weekend.  I will never work with AB May again, and would advise everyone to stay away.

Got home around 8:00 on a Sunday night from a weekend away to a hot house and no working A/C. I gave AB May a call and had a technician at the house within 45 minutes and working A/C within an hour. I still just had to pay my same $60 fee for a home warranty call, despite it being late on Father's Day Sunday.

We got a home warranty with the purchase of them home, and this is the second time we've called for service. We have been impressed with the response time, the friendly service and the educational aspects of each visit.

These guys have truly saved me a fortune.  They installed our Heat Pump/AC years ago and we had the service package.  But a couple of years ago we upgraded to the Gold Package for the Home Warranty.  Several times we considered downgrading it.  But this month it's paid for itself 10 times over.

1.  Our washer won't drain.  We call.  They come out same day.  Determined there were a couple of things needing addressed and ordered the part.  It shows up a couple of days later.  They come back and fix both issues and install the new part.  Now it works like a charm.  Total:  $60

2.  2 weeks later, our fridge won't cool.  Freezer works.  We call.  2 hours later, technician is there.  Very friendly.  He determines that a part (condensor I believe) was frozen.  He thaws it.  Said he'll order a replacement part.  An hour later the office calls us to tell us that part is no longer made (which sucks because the fridge isn't THAT old).  They can give us a new basic fridge, or an $815 credit.  Luckily this is right about the 4th and they had awesome sales.  We got a $1600 fridge on sale for $1000.  Total:  $60 fee plus difference for fridge (with tax about $210)

3.  Last night/today sink backs up.  An hour later so does the washer. Called today.  Here within 2 hours.  They determine there are several issues starting with the disposal that's leaking and not working, which is plugging the drain.  Entire plumbing underneath needs to be reworked and the disposal replaced.  Total:  $367

By my estimate, this month has cost me about $750.  But it's saved me WELL over $2500.

Use at your own risk - Kindly read.

A.B. May started off as a friendly company and they do pretend to value you as a customer , but it comes at a great cost. The value in their service is all but valuable.

HVAC Inspections - They send a guy out whom will just sit there on their phone and make sure it runs and charge you $69+ for it. You can do that yourself. They won't inspect anything other than the noises. At the end, they'll quote you for a new unit if the age of your Furnace/AC is greater than 10 years old.

Up-Sales Tactics - A.B. May will make 'all' conditions in your home sound worse than they really are and quote prices that excruciatingly high. For example, you could have an offset in your mainline and have no cracks, leaks, or backups. For 14 deep and 100'' out, they will quote you anywhere from $8,000 to $40,000 to replace the mainline; stating that this is a major issue that needs to be fixed. Just because you have to have your line rooted, doesn't mean that the line is a constant danger to your home. Even so, if you go to a non-biased plumber, they can fix an offset for less than $1,000; a service not offered by A.B. May. My suggestion is to always get a second opinion by a local plumber.

Repair/Replace Warranty - A plumber will tell you not to go with Home Depot/Lowes/ Big box stores for a new Kitchen Faucet as they are 'cheaply' made. If they swap out your faucet under warranty, it will only cover a $60 faucet that is 'worse quality' than Home Depot/Lowes, etc, and ask if you would like to spend $200+ for a nicer faucet. Bottom line, they will only replace parts that are defective in your home with the lowest quality unless you pay extra. It's not like for like.

Customer Service - They will quote you on the phone how much it will cost to send someone out. Sometimes, it will end up being multiple trips and you 'should' get pre-approval for the cost of one visit. Even if that is done, they will 'not honor' it. They'll apologize and offer a credit to your account instead of a refund of the multiple charges.

If you reference this review with them, they might say angry customer, not in good standing, etc. I assure you that I've had all the necessary work done to my home, and stand by my statements as honest, and not retaliatory to a single incident. My account was paid in full and I left on good terms.

Waited 2 days for someone to come to our house.  Never got a call or explanation. 2 appointments, 2 no-shows.  My only thought is that Covid is hitting all of us hard.  Still, it would have been nice to get some contact from the company if no one is going to show up.

Horrible!! That's all I can say! What a waste of a home warranty! Be warned! They will find any reason to not cover your warranty. They have no problem taking that $500 for a home warranty but they're a joke!  They tried telling me my AC wasn't wired correctly so they couldn't cover my fan motor... What a comical business. Than they tried charging almost $600 to replace it.. the fan motor was $117 & I put it on in 10 min.

I am a single mom and pay almost $70/month for the gold plan.  When I bought it several years ago it was supposed to cover almost everything in my house.  But over the years the monthly price has gone up and the things it covers has also gone down.  Nowadays, this doesn't cover things like my washer/dryer or two refrigerators....the things I'm likely going to have problems with.  If I want those items covered I have to pay even more for each one.  And, apparently my HVAC has aged out so they won't cover repairs on it (which is the main reason I bought it in the first place)

On top of that,  it seems EVERY time they come out they have some kind of exception as to why they won't repair it for the agreed upon trip charge or restore it to previous condition.  Things like improper installation or your HVAC system is too old.....or your water pressure is too high and we want to install a pressure reducing valve on your mainline for $350+ in order to warranty our work.  Last time they had to replace an old tub faucet they whined that it didn't have an access panel in the linen closet.  I finally talked them into not charging me to cut a hole in my wall but they wouldn't even put a piece of drywall over it.  I had go to the hardware store and install my own access panel door later (for about 1/4th of what they were going to charge me if they did it).  The replacement faucet was not near as nice as the once I had and actually totally different and cheap looking.

Today, a simple kitchen sink faucet repair.  They came out and charged me $60 but when I saw the cheap, ugly ($40 at the hardware store) piece of crap they were going to put in that looked nothing like my single handle faucet I had I said No, thank you!  They showed me another, more up to date model and said they would give me a credit towards it for an upcharge.  How much?  $288  WITH the credit!!!  I made them wait while I went to the hardware store and found a more reasonable model that I paid $107 for plus I still had to pay the $60!!  So, with my parts purchased and my monthly payments for this last year and a half alone I have paid $1,458.84 to have a 2 faucets repaired and a toilet flapper/innards replaced (they were replacing the one they had put in a few years previously that was another cheapo piece of crap).  They even told that if something did go wrong with any of my built-in appliances that are covered that they were not obligated or match colors or options either.  So there goes my cream colored dishwasher,  stove and overhead microwave that matches the refrigerator they won't cover,  They also told me my garbage disposal was not properly installed but they would only charge my $385 to replace it! They have come out and done bi yearly maintenance on my HVAC system.  So...if these numbers make sense to you....go ahead and give them a try.  Personally,  I'm saying goodbye!

We purchased our home last September with an A B May Warranty.  They inspected the heat pump and pronounced it OK.  It took three plumbers four visits to repair a leaky faucet in the shower and a second visit to reverse the cartridge in a bathroom sink so hot came out when the handle was pushed to the hot side.  I've done quite a few of these myself and know to test before the job is finished.
All their employees seemed more concerned with selling us an extension to the warranty to the extent that we thought the warranty was expired with the last visit.
When the heat pump failed last month, we bought the replacement through Beebe whose crew fortunately was polar opposite to May's.  So I paid about four thousand dollars because May's people either intentionally misled us or we misunderstood them.  Yes, shame on us for not getting a hard copy of the warranty and doing our homework but at least I'll never have to deal with them again.  The one positive thing I will say about them is that they did waive the second $75 service call fee when I complained about the faucets.

I've had to have AB May out to my house 3 times in the last month!
I think we've finally found the problem and fixed it!
Eric was incredibly helpful and did anything he could to make the best of the situation.

Thanks!

Our upstairs toilet was leaking sewage into our kitchen ceiling. They came and sealed the pipe 10 days ago. Sewage started coming up from the bathtub. We keep calling to figure out when someone is coming to fix the problem, but they have repeatedly not shown up.

They also said our warranty won't cover the problem because it was caused by an installation error. We've had the warranty the whole time we've lived here and the problem didn't start until over a year after we bought the house.

This isn't the first time we've had problems getting something fixed within a reasonable amount of time or without having to call back multiple times because whatever they did didn't fix the problem. This seems to be the typical quality of service and I don't plan to renew the warranty again.

This review is a little late.  Over the summer our air conditioner would trip the main breaker.  So we called AB May.  They send a guy out who looked at the panel and said he didn't see any problems. My husband and I had already done that. That was that.  He didn't see any problems at the panel and he was not interested in fixing the problem.  Neal Harris had been out to look at the air conditioner and said it was not an AC problem.
So disinterested A B May guy leaves, after being paid for doing nothing. That night I call my brother who is a real electrician.  Unfortunately, he lives in New York.  My brother walks us through the process: check this, check this, check this.... Viola! The wire to the air conditioner is badly burned in a spot.  My husband fixes it for the time.  Come Spring we will call an electrician to replace the wire.  Needlessly to say it will not be a guy from AB May.

Very disappointed.  Have had a home warranty with AB May for a year and just renewed it. Never had to use it. Called for the first time to have routine maintenance on my heating and AC. Made an appointment 3 weeks in advance , took a half day off work to be home, and find out 30 minutes into the appointment window that they aren't coming out. Unbelievably poor customer service!  I've called another company to take care of us and will also look at other companies for my home warranty. Can't rely on a company who can't even have the decency to keep an appointment!

We have used AB May with our home warantee, which was provided when we purchased the house. They did such a great job with the few items we had, we chose to purchase the gold plan and continue to use them for our house and also our rental property. They provide fast, accurate service. Mark H. is the electrician I would like to recognize. His knowledge is stellar and he did a great job explaining and fixing our problems.

AB May charged over $600 for less than 2 hours of labor, and a few relatively inexpensive parts.   I found their pricing to be inflated and unreasonable.    The technician did quote the fixed price to me, and although shocked by the amount quoted, I used their services to avoid having to take additional time off work.  The work performed was replacement of 2 small shutoff valves on furnace humidifiers and providing an annual furnace check for 2 furnaces- it took about 1 hour and 45 minutes (and I'm being generous on the time estimate).   I will not be using their services going forward.

Received our service visit for a furnace and a/c check on december 10.  Seemed a little late for a contracted client on their top level plan that it took 4 weeks to get the appointment.  Time frame for the appointment was 11-2.  Tech showed up at 3.  Work only took about an hour, Christian was basically friendly, said all was in working order and went on his way.

NEVER USE AB MAY FOR ANY SERVICES!!!  I contacted AB MAY to help with root removal from my sewer line. They informed me that I needed to jet out my sewer line and it would cost me $2,000 but since I had a home warranty it would cost $1,500.  I assumed AB MAY was a good company so I did not price check with other companies/plumbers. AB MAY then told me that they recommended I replace my entire sewer line and gave me a price quote which I felt was really high.  That led me to call other companies/plumbers and I find out that the going rate to have your sewer jetted is $300-400 and AB MAY charges $2,000!  What on earth!?!  So I called AB MAY (James) and asked him why they charge so much. He then tries to tell me that the AB MAY jetting machine is a commercial grade machine and that others might not use commercial grade jetters.  I don't care if it's commercial if it gets the job done! I then call a friend in another state who is a plumber who specializes in drain and sewer line jetting. He laughed when I told him what AB MAY had told me and said that's a new line...!  He said we got ripped off.
Listen up! AB MAY is a DISHONEST company--I was told their techs are commissioned based on what they recommend you have done and they often tell you that you need way more done than is necessary. They are charging 4-5 times what other honest companies are charging.  DO NOT use AB MAY!   We are telling everyone we know about this and contacted our relator at Reece & Nichols to inform her and to alert the company of AB MAY's pricing and practices so they can find another company to use when recommending home warranties.  We have been robbed!

They are always late and can't fix anything right the first time. I think its a little ridiculous I payed $530 for them to fix my air conditioning, just for the next day to wake up it does not work. I called in the next day and I told them and they wanted me too pay more for them just to come back again. I think its some B.S. Never again A.B. May.

I noticed water leaking from my 12 year old water heater, so I decided that replacement was a logical solution.  When someone called to give me the  1/2-hour notice for service, he sounded frustrated and said that he'd tried calling me 10 times.  I checked my phone, which I had by my side all day.  He called me 5x in the preceding 3 minute period while I was on another call.  I called immediately after getting off the call, so that bit of drama was my first impression.

After the technician arrived, he advised me that I needed a special gadget to control water pressure.  Having just suffered the loss of a loved one, I told him that I really didn't need an unnecessary expense.  He said that I was rolling the dice if I didn't get it, so I did.  I was very disappointed to find, especially after paying much more than planned, that the water pressure in my shower was a dribble the next morning.  ABMay called to schedule another technician to finish the job.  I wasn't aware that the job had not been completed, but okay...  I mentioned my concern about the water pressure.  A different technician came out the following week to finish.  I asked him about the low water pressure and he responded sarcastically, didn't you read what you signed?  We're not responsible...  I told him, well it looks like I just learned a valuable lesson.  He said my shower head was probably dirty.  He said he could look at it, but it would be chargeable.  At that point, I asked him to please leave and showed him the door.  In my opinion, I feel that I was treated rudely and possibly taken advantage at such an awful time in my life.  Someone from ABMay left a message for me after seeing my review on another post, but I've left her two messages now with no returned call.

We spent 7K after a 2K discount on a tankless water heater. First, no one ever showed up within 30-45 mins after the call. Then there was a leak once the water heater was installed and another technician had to come out and fix it.  While he was at our home he said some of the things that were done were illegal and he had to fix them.  Instead of putting a vent cover on the outside of the building, they left two ugly pipes sticking out. We've been waiting to have the unit registered since Friday. The install also broke my dryer vent hose and then duct taped it together.

have been a home warranty holder with them for alot of years, needed them a couple times in 2021, once for a leaking faucet, came out, still dripping, cost me 75 bucks, called em back and was told theyd have to cut drywall at my expense to fix, i went and bought part and fixed myself... september 2021 called them for a water heater issue, my cost after my home warranty was almost 2000, i said no, they came back with 700 and something because they had to pull permit, i agreed, i recently called city to ask about inspection as the tech said someone would reach out, no permit was ever pulled( ima do a little digging around on that one and shake the tree a bit )... called today about heat pump not working, they said it needs a new compressor and they pay 2000 and my cost would be 2900.00. but, they would reimburse me a credit on water heater and apply other discounts and i could get a new hvac system installed for almost 17,000 bucks. I told them i was going to call around and he told me to call him back with my quotes and theyd see what they can do. I believe its time to part ways.

This afternoon Curt Ledom arrived to replace my Aprilaire 600 whole house humidifier water filter. He had one on his truck so changing it out was a quick process. He was prompt, professional and an easy person to talk to since I had some questions about the different dials and when to change the percentage.

He usually works on much larger projects but happened to be in my area so I got his expertise on my little job. He explained about your bronze, silver and gold home warranty insurance plans and I told him I would look them up, in more detail, after he left. I did and they cover most anything you could want.

I am not sure how long Curt has been working for you but he was kind and offered me the option of emailing my receipt or having it sent in the mail from the office. It's nice to know I can have that piece of paper since I am used to being more old school in my transactions.

Way too expensive and difficult to deal with overall.  Over $400 for about 30 minutes of very simple work that was clearly explained to them before they came out.   All they really seemed interested in was selling me a new HW heater (with questionable logic at best) or home warranty plan.  Pass on these guys!

At 7:30 this morning I called needing help with my furnace. A little over two hours later, A B May was on my door eager to help. Jerrell, the service technician, did an outstanding job. He was courteous, efficient and professional. In addition to fixing my problem, he went above and beyond by showing me things that nobody had ever showed me on how my furnace operates. I am sure he saved me time and expense down the road.

I have been a client for over 3 years. They have been to my house numerous time, fixing everything from my microwave to my dishwasher to my furnace. Each time, I have been absolutely amazed at how courteous, efficient and cost effective they are. I highly recommend A B May.

In July an AB May repair man came to our home because our refrigerator was leaking on the inside.  He suggested we turn off the ice maker and water/ice dispenser.  If that stopped the leak he thought he knew what part to order.  It did not stop. We were told the part was on back order. It is now October 7 and now we have been told that the part is discontinued, although not sure they know what part is needed.  The refrigerator is only 6 years old.  Yesterday I received a call saying that AB May would replace refrigerator with a basic style or give us a voucher for $970 to NFM.  I checked with my husband and we chose the voucher.  Later that same day I received a call saying so sorry, we made a mistake, your contract with AB May has expired and you will not be getting a voucher.  Not my idea of good customer service.  AB May will never get a good review from us or any more of our business.

Update...AC fixed.  We escalated and AB May came through and sent a senior tech who took the cover off and immediately seen the problem, I mean immediately.  He took the time to explain to me and went to order the parts and was willing to go pick them up.  Found out it was not in stock but called the next morning to tell us that he found a vendor and would be picking up the part and head over to our home to install.  All fixed, house is cool again, dogs are happy, so is wife.  Wish it did not have to take 4 techs, but hey, it's done.  I have now changed my rating as a result of the senior techs efforts.

****DO NOT USE ABMAY** do not waste your time nor money on this company.****
I have had a home warranty with ABMay since buying my first house in 2009 until October of 2021. During those 12 years the prices continued to rise as ABMay provided less services with their warranties.
Five and a half years ago they talked me into buying a high grade HVAC system. I was promised spending more money on a higher grade would save me money in my monthly bills. I have yet to see this decrease in my bills. For ABMay to come out and do the at first bi-annual maintenance, which turned into just annual maintenance for the same price on the unit would normally be rescheduled at least once since I was not a high priority for them. They would call me the day before the appointment to reschedule. Sometimes this would happen a few times before I could get them to come out and do the maintenance I paid for with my warranty. After five and a half years the air conditioner I purchased from them stopped working. Come to find out ABMay was negligent when installing the humidifer drain line and air conditioner coil drain line. This negligence caused the air conditioner coil to rust from the inside out from water damage. The five years of routine maintenance overlooked this issue each time. ABMay refuses to take any responsibility for their mistake and acts like this is normal for a unit this age. This is not even normal for a unit 10-15 years old let alone less than 6 years old.
Using ABMay will end up costing you more money in the long run than if you were to go with an honest company. I would suggest using a smaller company. I have learned they seem to care more about their customers and quality of work performed.

NO STARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My family and I recently went to AB May to get a new furnace and it looks like we will be freezing for this winter. Ever since our installation on Oct 17th it has BARELY worked. They were just at our house 2 days ago and my furnace won't cycle on right now. Then to add I have mostly tile in my home so when it gets cold it gets FREEZING. To top everything off I have a 9 month old and 2 year old who I have to constantly bundle up because AB May installs faulty furnaces. Avoid this company. They are a scam. We paid in full for something that barely works. It's also really hard to get ahold of anyone. They treat their customers like crap! I regret sooooo much going with them. WE ARE FREEZING! Please, please use your money with another company!!

In response to Maria: We will see on Monday when more of your management is here. Your technician is here now and even the technician they sent out had a hard time getting ahold of someone above  him to ask simple questions. I will never go to you guys again. I told you guys at an earlier call that we had a downward flow furnace which is rarely seen. Why did you not send out someone who was more experienced to come trouble shoot the problem early on? Today will be the 6th time you guys have been to my home. Again, I would like to advise everyone to stay away from AB May. I am very dissatisfied.

I used to like this company, but things have changed. After a decade of business at two different homes, I'm calling to drop our warranty tomorrow.

Each hvac servicing (2 per year) is little more than an attempt to sell us a new system (at a huge markup) or additional maintenance (Evap coil cleaning, blower cleaning) that are nearly $600.  Electrical work was similar, an encouragement for thousands in work for a new box.

Any service call you make is unlikely to be covered, just a chance to hard-sell you things you don't need as though you do, and at a wildly above market cost.

I estimate I've wasted close to two grand in the last year or two... no more.

We've been customers of A.B. May for years and Precision (which they absorbed) for even more years. We called them last week to unclog a partially blocked washer drain which overflowed. I had tried to unclog the drain with a manual snake but couldn't. The plumber they sent was personable and efficient and used a motorized auger to pull out the clog. The entire process took no more than 10-15 minutes. The bill was $231. I believe A.B. May has just priced themselves out of our market.

I JUST moved into my house less than a month ago, so you can imagine my shock when my pipe connected to the main line overflowed into the basement of my house! I was horribly upset, and being a young, single homeowner, very stressed out thinking about the cost to fix the issue. I have an older home and knew that backups can happen when you first move in, especially if the house sat for a while, which it did. I knew that the pipe needed to be snaked and that there was probably a clog somewhere in the main line. One of my coworkers recommended that I call A.B. May because he knew someone who worked for the company. I am normally hesitant to reach out to any large name companies, for the fact that they normally overcharge for servicing, but I do trust my coworker. I paid $79 for the main line to be augered, not bad right? I was told parts of the pipes were difficult to snake through and that a tech would come back with a camera on the snake the following week. Why couldn't they do that the first go around..? The representative also tried to sell me a warranty which was about $65/month. Seems sort of high, right? That isn't a home warranty that covers everything in the house, which might I add, you can get through other companies for almost half the price. Anyways, I spent my Friday night mopping up doo doo as I thought about my contingency plan, should the situation be worse that what's on the surface- i.e. roots in the pipes. The technician came back the other day to send a camera down the main line. He told me that my pipe was underwater, the pipe is clogged, and that the pipe is collapsing since it was difficult to get the snake through. He also told me that the situation was really bad (emphasized a few times). He went out to his truck and gave me a few quotes for what needs to be done. Either I can spend the low end of $8k and have a pump grinder/dump put in outside the foundation of the house, or I can pay $19k for a new main line, pump grinder, basement floor ripped up and replaced, and the street outside my house ripped up and replaced. I could see how it might cost $19k to rip pipes up UNDER my basement and tear the street apart, but that's assuming that the main line did need to be replaced. The tech even looked in my backyard to see if a sewer line ran there, that I could T with my main line instead. I didn't have one. I also requested the footage of the snake and camera, yet I couldn't open the file even after attempting to convert it. I felt that this tech was nice, but also can see how the values (money) are instilled in this individual.
I always get a few quotes on any project I do, and so I called The Sewer Doctor to come out the following day. He augered the main line over 100 feet, to where it Ts with the city line. He then put a camera down there until the T. I got to watch the entire thing. My main line was very clogged, and about a 20 foot stretch was underwater. BUT, my pipes were in good condition! As long as I get the main line cleaned out once a year I am good to go. My main line does not need to be replaced.
Long story short, A.B. May, who prides themselves on doing the right thing, every time (A.B. May website), is the most dishonest company I have ever worked with. They will cheat you out of your money. I could be out $19k had I not called The Sewer Doctor for a few hundred dollars instead. Do not use them!

We asked for the home warranty when we closed on the house and are so relieved that we did! Several issues that were not mentioned on the inspection have become evident since we moved in, and the crew at A B May has been top notch. I have had numberous problems with my sump pump purchased through AB May.  First it was installed incorrectly, and repaired poorly.  After many attempts to fix the problem on 1/30/13 even though the professionalism was poor they were finally able to fix the problem(I HOPE).  After they finished their was water and debris everywhere.  They tried using a broom which only made the water mess worse.  They removed the sump pump drainage pipe from the spicket outside and failed to reattach it before leaving.  They had wet shoes and were tracking in my house and on my white carpet.  They even commented on how poorly installed the sump pump was in the first after we were told by our AB May contact that they were sending their sump pump expert.  And almost everytime they tried to charge me for the visits even though it was their failure in installing it correctly in the first place.

Very happy with our first experience with this company. We had a dead dishwasher. Scheduling was easy and painless. Our appliance technician, Sean, was professional, affable, and willing to answer many questions. Having had negative experiences with other home warranty programs, I found A.B. Day 11 without a working furnace.  The technician came out on Friday, March 6th and after a few hours indicated he needed to order a part and the part would be coming from Chicago.  I had the option to pay $75 to have it overnighted, but that meant it would be Monday or Tuesday at the earliest.  Not sure why that would be considered overnight - I declined that charge.  Didn't hear anything until I called and left two messages at their dispatch on Thursday, March 12th. No call back on that day- called Friday, March 13th and the dispatch let me know that the part was in and the tech had to pick it up at the shop and would then be headed to my house. After the tech worked for 3 hours, I was informed it still isn't working and another part is needed - this one coming from AZ.  Just called and dispatch says the notes show the part isn't scheduled to be in until the 18th at the earliest.  It is 37 degrees outside.  Additionally, I have a gold plan with this company.  I had them out in December to have the furnace seasonally maintenances.  Unacceptable.
***UPDATE***
It is now April 29th and the furnace is still not fixed.  Almost two months now - I do understand that it is a hard time due to COVID 19, but I will point out that this started two weeks before the stay-at home order.  The 3rd part needed was ordered and was supposed to be in March 30th - then when I called on the 30th was told it was actually the 31st.  I had to call on the 31st at the end of the day to check and was told that now they were hoping to get the part by the 16th if April.  That day came, again I had to call to check as no one had called me - confirmed that they now had that part and they said they were busy and hoped to be able to get me scheduled the following week. I explained it had been a long time and that I hoped they'd be available the next day - they did agree and and we scheduled a time for the 17th.  The tech showed up on the 17th and he grabbed the box that was obviously the shipped box that we had been waiting for and he headed to the basement to hopefully finally fix it. Guess what? THE BOX WAS EMPTY.  No part. The tech had to return to the office to check where the part had disappeared to - as this was a Friday, I was told at 7pm that they couldn't locate it and that they were going to regroup on Monday.  Monday I was called and told the part needed to be reordered and it would be 1-2 weeks more!

This is day 54 of no furnace.

They are going to be at my house tomorrow with the part.... not feeling confident it will be fixed tomorrow, but hoping!

I also looked to message them as they did respond that they needed my contact info to have a customer service consultant contact me after my initial review - there is no link to message this company that I could find.

I thought this big company would be a good pick to come out and check why my furnace wasn't working.  The guy instantly tried to upsell me a service package, and told me it was routine maintenance. I had looked up probable causes online and knew to clean the flame sensor so I asked how much (besides the $89 diagnosis) $25 so I said go ahead. Takes sensor out and says oh it looks like this has already been cleaned. Not the problem, but wipes it down anyway.  Then puts voltmeter on gas valve goes out to truck texts someone back and forth for a few minutes then says it's the gas valve. It's a 4yr old furnace. I asked how he knew that. He gets exasperated &says well I've been doing this for a while now. Part is under warranty but labor will be +$400. I'm kinda in a bind so I say ok but he doesn't have the part. He will emergency order it for the next day. I agree still have to pay $89 for diagnosis he actually tries to make me pay for cleaning the looks clean sensor but I don't agree. So he drops that.  Next morning I have Neece Heating & Cooling come out (husband & wife local company) she quotes me $50 service $275 to replace gas valve if that's the problem & guy will have part on truck already. Guy gets there has it fixed in less than 10 minutes. Loose wire to the gas valve $50 total charge. Made my day. Canceled with A B May but got no response on getting a refund or much apology I'm sure they would have replaced the gas valve and charged over $400 never telling me there was no problem. New guy said they are more of a furnace seller than servicer. You can only get a refund from one guy and he's not there leave a voice mail, but don't expect to hear back.

3-23-2018 Update

We had our spring service for our furnace, heat pump and humidifier.  Kevin W did the tune up and was very professional, courteous and knowledgeable.  He carefully explained a furnace add-on we needed and was able to install in the same trip in very little time.
--------------
9-1-2017

We needed to have a sump pump installed as the torrential rains last week resulted in water coming into our basement through every crack and seam in the floor, something that never occurred in our 22 years of ownership of the house.  We called A.B. May, as we have a service contract with them for our HVAC stuff.

Having that contract is a bonus because they give their contract customers priority over others.  They were able top schedule an appointment for me within two weeks, which was much better than a foundation company I contacted, who said they couldn't visit us until October.  That didn't work for us.

So, Field Supervisor Joe Young and an assistant, Zach, promptly arrived at our house today.  While they were here, we also had them replace several shut off valves.

Joe and Zach proceeded very courteously, professionally, quickly and cleanly, doing high quality work.  As they were mapping out the exit pipes for the sump pump (they installed a main pump and a back up), I expressed concern over the possible drilling through the main floor joists, as I know there are rules to follow when doing so.  Joe was all over this, assuring me the installation would be such that he wouldn't drill through any joist.

Joe & Zach were at our home almost all day, but they weren't intrusive.  In fact, they were quite pleasant to have around.  Joe offered great customer service, wanting to do whatever we asked of him, pointing other things we needed to consider, providing estimates and information, and prompting questions from us.  Both he and Zach brought a LOT of credibility to the project.

A.B. May, in general, and Joe and Zach, in particular, are great!

Our home warranty was through them so we used them for the work on our house for the first year. Most recently, they worked on our water heater, and it's been a complete nightmare. They quoted us the wrong amount, mis-communicated with us at every turn, almost voided our new water heater's warranty by not telling us pertinent information, had to send out an electrician on a different day after failing to communicate expectations to us, had to come back out as they forgot to turn our gas back on, had to come back out again because the water pressure was terrible after they left that time, and now they have to come back again tomorrow to finish working on the water pressure issue because they couldn't figure it out today. My husband and I have both wasted a lot of our PTO having to go home and wait for AB May on the 5-6 different visits over the past few weeks. It's completely unacceptable.

The only person I've had a good experience with is Jeremy the electrician, and I'm not even sure whether he works for AB May or is a contractor.

Can't wait for my home warranty to expire in June so I never have to call AB May again.

An AB May home warranty was provided when I purchased my house a year ago.  I am definitely NOT renewing with them.  My dishwasher needed to be replaced and I only had 3 replacement options and ended up paying $500 out of pocket to get a decent model.  They had to come out multiple times to resolve small problems like leaky toilets.  I ended up paying for several visits before they finally replaced the valves.

When one of the problems wasn't covered by the warranty, they provided an estimate with a discounted labor rate.  The estimate was incredibly high so I had my regular electrician take a look.  Turns out that AB May had diagnosed the problem incorrectly and by going with my regular electrician I ended up saving over $1000.

Bottom Line:  If you need a home warranty, go elsewhere.  If you need regular service, think twice.

Honestly the most appallingly horrible service imaginable. I pay for priority platinum service for HVAC and my list of issues with them is so extensive that I can't even go into all of them here, but they include: repeated no-shows and cancellations for service appointments, incorrect installation of system components, inability to fix problems for a system they installed, incomplete seasonal maintenance (such as not cleaning coils, topping off refrigerant or changing filters properly), different service person sent every time (one more incompetent than the next and each one blaming the last for not doing the job correctly), both disingenuous and rude managers. Most recently, when they didn't show I was offered 50% off service fee. When I explained that I wouldn't have one because I pay in advance, they simply said oh and offered nothing since I don't pay anything. I guess the $400+ I pay for the service plan is nothing. They couldn't even provide a time they would make up the appointment the next day. In fact, they will never give you a time that they will show up--lately, not even a morning or afternoon timeframe. I certainly will not renew and am seriously considering getting a lawyer involved. If Yelp allowed 0 stars, that's what I would have given. Don't believe any positive reviews online.

Bought a house last year and our realtor recommended going with AB May for the warranty contract and have the seller pay. Thought it was a good idea so went ahead even though most everything was new. luckily we had it as the A/C Condenser just blew a compressor on a 3 year old Lennox system. Called them up and they were quick to respond and the gentleman came out and told me that it was indeed the compressor and it would cost 2800.00 to fix even with the manufacture warranty and our repairs are covered up to 2000.00. Kinda shocked I asked what were the costs for and they told me 1800.00 for labor and 1000.00 for Freon. 1800.00 for labor??? for a 3-4 hour job. I have family in the industry and reached out and they confirmed that was a complete ripoff. So needless to say after repair and warranty expires will never do business with this company again. Giving 2 stars because they were very prompt for service call.

The first guy came out...  Antonio.  He was real nice and said he had cleared the main line.  He  hadn't though.  The next day he came back out and my tenant told me he was unable to clear the line.  A man with a camera came out named Robert.  Robert was awful.  My tenant called me because she didn't like the guy.  I call to dispatch at this point wondering what is going on with their employees.  They had Robert call me and he told me he found a block in the line but because filled with sludge couldn't see anything.  At this point I called my regular plumber.  He cleared the line in ten minutes and everything was now fine.  AB May wanted to charge me thousands to dig up a line that had no issues.  I have now been asking for the refund promised to me via text and management for over two weeks.  My next step is to file a credit card charge back.  ... At least I have it in writing so I'll get my money back but what a nightmare...  DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!

The house I purchased three months ago came with a home warranty, which was one of the reasons I chose to purchase the home.  I then upgraded to the AB MAY GOLD home warranty.  Which means nothing.  I had a tech out today because one of the toilets wouldn't flush.  Long story short, he removed the toilet, which is now sitting out back on my deck, charged me $208 and gave me a quote of $810 to replace the pipes in my basement where he says the clog is.  When the tech saw that I was shocked at the price, he offered to do the work for $700 plus my cowhide rug,  Really.  I may be poor, but I'm not so impoverished that I have to let go of my $400 rug for $100.  So, if you're looking for a home warranty, go with a REAL company, like Old Republic.  My daughter bought a house a few months before I did, and Old Republic came in and replaced the water heater when there were issues with it.  AB May is truly a Ponzi scheme - I'll be cancelling my warranty.  These people are just scammers!!!!

I purchased my home a little over 2 years ago and as part of my contract I was given an AB May Home Warranty for the next year.  I've used their services a few times in that first year and as a first time home owner they took care of all our issues (there weren't that many) quickly and pretty inexpensively.  i looked at what I could have/would have spent if i didn't have the warranty and I definitely save some money for sure.  I renewed my warranty since and I couldn't be happier.  Sure there are some technicians who are much better than others, but by now I have  the name a of a couple for plumbing and appliances and jsut ask for them.  Very happy with their service and will definitely continue to use/recommend them.

I wish I could give a 0 star review. HORRIBLE service provided. They come fix a problem charge over $600 and then leave you with an unattached leaking toilet that isn't usable unless you want water on the floor flooding. THEN they expect you to wait DAYS to come fix the problem they left you with and an unusable bathroom. DO NOT WASTE your money on this company.

Not worth the money for home warranty...response rates, trained employees and need to call over and over again.
I'd suggest pay as needed and get a good heating, cooling, plumbers and electricians.

They were good about 5 years ago but like the plumbing their quality has gone down the drain. Who ever they hire or contract with Their call service is even worse .
What good is it to pay almost $1000 a year and then every visit?

All hat, no cattle.  Definitely not five-star service.  Waited all day for the scheduled plumber.  Called at 5:30 pm asking about the visit, and they didn't show me on the schedule.  I had called a week earlier after receiving an ordered part to schedule the appointment.  Now I get to do it all over again!
Oh, and they charged me $438 for a shower handle valve and for 15 minutes of work.  Find another plumber.

Yesterday, roofers discovered a wire run loose along the peak of our roof under the last layer of shingles, and can't complete the work until it's dealt with.  Called ABMay and they said someone would come out this afternoon, would call before coming over but they couldn't give a more specific time than between noon and sunset which was fine.  But so I have walked around with phone in hand (literally) all day, fielded other calls with no problem but as of 4:30PM, no electrician.

So I called ABMay and, after being put on hold several minutes, was told he tried to call you some time earlier but kept getting a busy signal, so he tried another number and same problem.  Garbage!  I gave them only my one and only phone number and, as I said, that phone's working just fine all afternoon and never out of my reach, not even in the bathroom.  Furthermore, ABMay refused to reschedule before Monday although they advertise 24 hour service and roofers are otherwise done - and they did make the commitment to be here today.  Untrustable, unreliable business.

My old hot water heater started leaking so I called A.B. May. Joe T. came to my house and assessed the situation. He is incredibly knowledgeable and took the time to explain every detail to me. He came back on a Saturday morning to install a new water heater. He kept a positive attitude the entire time, even after a few sizing issues we ran into. Joe is the best plumber I've ever had and I will continue to work with him from now on. Thanks Joe!!!

We have had A.B May's silver service plan for a little over a year now and we have had 2 times already where we have had an appt scheduled weeks if not months in advance only for them to cancel the day of due to an emergency with another client.

In May of 2018 was the first experience. Our AC had gone out the week before a scheduled appt but we decided not to call them as we had a scheduled appt on the books already and had had it scheduled at least 6 weeks in advance. Of course the week it was out was the first time KC temp hit above 90 (memorial day weekend) so it was miserable in our house. I was also 6 months pregnant at the time. The day of our appt, I stayed home from work so I could greet and assist the service rep in my 80+ degree home. They called me maybe 30 minutes before my appt to tell me that another client emergency had come up and I would have to call the main service line to reschedule the appt. Under no circumstances was I going to allow that to happen as I was sweating like mad in my own home. I explained to them that our AC had been out for over a week but I didn't call them for service due to having a SCHEDULED appt already and decided to wait patiently for them to arrive and assist. I went back and forth with the customer service rep multiple times who basically kept telling me that I would have to reschedule. I was FURIOUS. I involved my husband and after a few more frustrated chats with customer service they informed us they would keep our appt and send someone out sometime that day. They did come that day and offered $25 dollars off our service at that point.

The second time was this morning. Again, we had an appt for A.B May to come check our AC unit that scheduled several weeks in advance. My husband was home from work so it worked out perfect for our schedule. We were told a rep would be out between 11-2. At 1130 my husband gets a call from the rep who tells him he won't be able to come out due to an emergency with another client and asked that my husband call the main line to reschedule. This time we were offered movie passes, which makes no sense to me and doesn't make me forget about the fact that we're paying for a service we aren't receiving.

We are at the point where we're looking to cancel our service plan with A.B. May and find a local business repairman who appreciates our business and treats us with respect. I know that reps would rather work emergencies because i'm sure they are paid more for that type of service call. I feel like it is HORRIBLE business practice to shaft the clients who pay for these expensive service plans but show no respect for us when they cancel scheduled appts without proper heads up. Fed up is an understatement.

Be careful with what you sign with them. I had the basic paid for 1 year, one of their reps convinced me, after trying really hard, he told me that, if I didn't like it after, that I could go back to what I had already paid for the year, and giving me all these wonders about the company to sign for the upgraded version, so I did. I do not have time to read a 100 page contract (my fault), but now that I just want to go back to the basic I am being told that I can't, and have to lose what I already had paid.

I trusted the company, and now I am losing what I already had. But anyways, I asked them to come fix my AC unit, looked at it, he couldn't fix it, so they called another guy, couldn't fix it either, they had to call the expert (but he is SOOOO experienced, that he gets an awesome schedule, 8-5 Monday to Friday (guess what I have the same schedule), and I travel for a living, so I am only in town on the weekends, one of the other wonders of this company right? Well, got tired of this company, called an independent guy, he fixed it within 20 minutes!!! and did not charge me as much as these guys do.

Anyways, hate them, hate the customer service, thanks for nothing AB may.

If you had asked me on Monday, I would have given a rave review of AB May because their technician was out there within an hour of our fridge going out and it was fixed right away.  However, I had scheduled maintenance for that Thursday and that was awful.  We were scheduled in the 2-5 slot and were told that morning we were at the top of that slot.  3:30 rolls around and still nothing.  Finally at 4:00 we get a call saying he's 30 minutes away.  At last.  4:30 - still nothing.  Finally after 5 PM he shows up.  At this point my husband wasted his whole afternoon waiting around because we were told we were the first in that slot.  Then the regular maintenance, that should only take an hour max, took TWO AND A HALF HOURS!  He was there until 7:30.  Because of this we missed a family dinner we had planned waiting around for him to get done.  This was on Thursday.  We left for the weekend Friday morning and came back Sunday night to no hot water.  So we had to have them come back out again, at which time they charged us ANOTHER $60 service charge, saying that they can't prove it was their guy that put the wrong part in the water heater.  Even if it didn't happen at the last maintenance, AB May is the ONLY company to have ever done maintenance on this water heater, so someone in their company made that mistake and then WE had to pay for it to be fixed.  I'll be looking for a different company to get my home warranty through from now on.

Have had decent experiences up until recently. Had them come out to clean and service my AC unit and they did a terrible job. Leaves still in it. Mulch still in the outside radiator fin things.  Called them to try and resolve multiple times and they never called back. Tried to charge back on my credit card but was found in their favor due to the language they gave you sign to release them. Will never use again. Too big now to provide good service.

A.B. May is great.  I got quotes, and they weren't the cheapest, but they offered the most value for the money.  I bought a new furnace and air conditioner condenser from them, and also hired them to replace a clogged mainline from the house to the city line.  A lot of money, but high-quality work, sober workmen who show up on time and are respectful, and great service after the sale.  (One drain tube on the furnace needed to be tightened down.)

We have a home warranty through AB May on a house we just bought in April.  We asked them to come service our AC and while the service guy was there he took it upon himself to check out the furnace...we ended up needing a new furnace and AC and they will only give us our max pay out on one unit, even though the service call was for the AC only.  So our max pay out per call is $2k...then they jacked up the price of the units $2k so they wouldn't have to lose any money on it.  They also wanted to give us units that no one has heard of and those that have, have said not to get them.  Long story short...I can go somewhere else and spend $200 less than what AB May was willing to give us with our home warranty.  So we will not be renewing with AB May and I will make sure to let everyone I know that is buying a house, not to get their home warranty through them.  Any service man I talk to when getting quotes for our AC/furnace, laugh when I tell them we have a warranty through AB May and say their not surprised that its so expensive.

Had a tech come out to our downtown condo for a simple check-up/cleaning of our AC and furnace, both of which work fine and have exhibited no problems. The tech spent 2 hours (!!!!) fear-mongering about multiple inconsequential 'problems' and had his sales guy come out to price a new unit because ours is 'like a car with 300,000 miles' and is apparently about to die. They pushed hard to get us to replace our functioning, no problems system with a new one for $14000. But they'll give us a $1000 discount if we buy right now. I thought AB May was reputable and honest. Won't be using them again.

We have a contract with AB May and have had no issue getting help out to our house whenever we need it. Everyone who we have had come do work has been great. We have had our dishwasher, oven, toilets, faucets, garbage disposal, and HVAC serviced by them with great results. My only complaint is that it's pretty expensive to maintain a contract with them, but I suppose that's the choice we make, understanding that we could spend more to repair and replace things without the contract. We love the convenience of being able to call one company for all our needs, with confidence that they will send a skilled professional to do our repair.

When you can get a technician they do good work.  I would not recommend you buy any of their service packages, if you're looking for quicker service.  Unfortunately if you need service it may require a 2-3 day wait; requiring in emergency situation that you call another company.  If you Lose your furnace or AC do not count on them to come out.

I live in Kansas City Missouri. I have the 1-year gold plan with a.b. may which was about $500. They charge a separate $75 fee every time they come out to do any work. I had a leak under my sink and called someone out ($75). The plumber fixed the leak which was a loose-fitting on our garbage disposal. I could have done it literally in 10 seconds. All it took was a quick twist with a plumbers wrench and you're done. But still, $75. Annoying but it's business. I get it. This occurred last week. This week, another leak under my sink. Gee, what a coincidence. I call them to send someone out and they tell me that it may be another $75 fee if it's something else unrelated to the garbage disposal which it obviously is. I looked myself and confirmed that his work remained. So I denied the service and called the specialty warranty number to explain my situation. The work wasn't done in full. I explained to her that, had the plumber fixed ALL of the issues then it would have only been $75 for fixing multiple leaks. She agreed. But now that a plumber would be coming out a second time, it will likely be another $75 service fee, even though we could have avoided this if he had fixed all issues the first time. All of this is in light of the fact that I bought their most expensive warranty plan. So instead of $75 one time, they will charge me $150 after not doing the job the right way the first time.  I didn't have a great experience with them the first few times they came out also. Another time, a plumber fixed my toilet that was leaking. While working, he turned the main shut off valve back on, having forgotten he didn't reconnect the water line to the toilet. So water sprayed everywhere in my bathroom. Nothing was done to see if any water damage had occurred. Thanks for that. They use SHADY business practices and have a lack of integrity. I wish I wouldn't have bought the 1-year warranty with them as there were other choices in-home warranty companies that seems equally as good. Now I know I will choose one of the other companies. STAY AWAY from a.b. may! From now on, I'll do my own home maintenance!

Purchased the gold service plan when we loved into our new house. Quickly had plumbing issues and called for an appointment. The first two times they rescheduled. The third visit a technician came two hours late and fixed two issues and told us we needed an appliance specialist for the rest. These two problems continued after he fixed them. The appliance specialist actually showed up on time the next day, and told us all of our problems were related to plumbing. He actually said that the previous technician must have been incompetent because they should have been easy fixes. He recommended requesting a different plumber. We did that day, and I've called three times since, and still have not received any information about when someone will come by. So much for priority service! It's been almost a week and I still can't use my kitchen sink or dishwasher. dont waste your time or money.

Had one of their Plumbers Cody come out to fix a leaky P-trap..

He proceeded to tell me I had to cut out the tile on a newly remodeled bathroom to replace my entire stack for 2 bathrooms which was a complete lie. I rushed home to see what he was doing and he already had cut into one wall. The pipes he claimed were corroded were not, they were rock solid and the threading was perfectly fine. All it needed was was some elbow grease to remove hard water buildup and some plumbers tape. When confronted he just said.. Well it looked like corrosion..

I chased him out of there and he still charged me $95 even though he left my plumbing disconnected and actually tried to leave my house with my plumbing fixtures.

I paid $95 for an attempted robbery. If they cash that check it will tell me all I need to know about AB MAY.

There is a reason Reece Nichols has recently dropped them for Home warranties.

The service is OK -- nothing special, but they get the job done.  I do wish more effort had been made to explain exactly what they were doing, why certain parts were required, etc.  However, as noted elsewhere in some reviews here, it's their pricing structure that's outrageous.  Labor is not charged on an hourly basis, but on an unknown flat-rate schedule.  This can result in the highest labor rates in town.

For instance, my furnace installation took about 3.5 hours but cost over $5200 plus another $2700 for the furnace!  That's all fine if you've got a lot of money to burn (for fuel in your new furnace), but otherwise you're much better off to comparison shop.  It's very obvious that the company is much more interested in profits than honest, transparent service.  Final result was a huge case of buyer's remorse.

We had a sewer gas smell coming from our bathroom in our new home.  We had the AB home warranty and decided to use them.  First guy looks down the drain pipe and tells us to pour bleach down it whenever we smell the gas $75.  Second guy crawls into the attic and puts duct tape on the exhaust fan tubing that is incorrectly tied into the  sewer gas stack (where the problem exists) and doesn't recognize it as the problem, another $75.  Third guy pulls the toilet and puts on a new seal (not needed), another $150.  $300 later and still have the smell.  As I've read in other reviews, they don't care.  They show up and don't investigate the problem, or in the case of the second guy, don't even see the problem when it is directly in front of their face.  One call to a plumber friend and he was able to diagnose it over the phone.  I know I will probably not ever get a call back even when I've left messages, and highly doubt that I'll get any reimbursement for this.  I just want to save someone else from wasting their money on a poor service.  Call a company that specializes in the specific repair.

They were great to work with 20y ago, but not now. I had a repair question on an amana ac unit they installed, called the office number, and was informed the only way to talk to a tech was to schedule a service call. (Which would mean missing work and of course paying for the call).

Jeremy Labor, electrician, was awesome! He was quick and very efficient as well as being very pleasurable to talk with. He described exactly what he was doing and went above and beyond to make sure everything was safe and answered any questions we had. I can't say enough good things about him and our experience! I am very impressed with the quality of work he performed!

I am pleasantly surprised with the service received from A.B. May through my home warranty.   After calling to have a concern with my water heater checked out, a tech came out the next day and determined the unit needed to be replaced and gave me some upgrade alternatives.  An installer, Nick C., came out the next day.  The new water heater is commercial grade and better than the one replaced.  Nick is a true professional and took great care in a job well done.  He even entertained my questions about the new unit and how it works.  Much appreciated.  Thanks Nick!

UPDATE: AB May refunded my service call fee, listened to the call between myself and the woman I spoke with & acknowledged her attitude and lack of training. It was also explained the tech SHOULD have told me I can't work on this fridge at all bc it's under warranty and should've never charged me $89 to begin with.
I appreciate the communication with Tommy, the appliance manager, and I believe they handled a poor situation well.
----------------------
UPDATE: AB May technician, as I said all along (despite the fact he was defended by his company), got it WRONG.
Another company is here and is currently fixing my BAD COMPRESSOR. Good thing AB May both declared it was the electronic panel and told me I was wrong when I complained their guy didn't even look at the compressor.
----------------------
I am furious. I just got off the phone with a woman who told me repeatedly We've been in business over 50 years. GREAT, congratulations. That streak won't continue with any more money from my hard-earned income.
AB May sent a technician out to look at my refrigerator/freezer which is only cool, not cold. He came in, switched a bunch of breakers on my power box, couldn't figure out which one was for the kitchen, so he just came and unplugged the fridge.
He pushed the reset button, plugged it back in and waited a couple minutes. Display was the same as it was before. 35 for fridge, -1 for freezer.
Told me the issue was the electronic panel. Asked for $89, told me to call LG.
I called LG customer service. They said (1) if there is a display, then it is NOT an electronic panel issue. They also said (2) the numbers have a + or - 5 degree view, so the AB May technician couldn't have just diagnosed it by simply looking at the display.
Their technician didn't even LOOK at the compressor, the coils, NOTHING.
When I called AB May back, I was told We've been in business 50 years so we aren't in the business of poorly diagnosing people. The offer was made to send a SENIOR technician out, but that if he found the same issue, I'd be charged a another $89!
WHAT?? Your techs come on a service level? My $89 wasn't good enough for a knowledgeable technician the first time? And also, you want me to trust that a co-worker of the first guy is going to come to my home and CONFIRM his buddy did a poor job? Get real. That's not how the world works, and I can't believe this customer service representative had the nerve to take a tone with me. Any follow up question I had was met with, As I HAVE ALREADY EXPLAINED to you...
When LG sends their tech out, I have PROOF that the issue is not the electric board, I want my $89 back AND an apology.

DO NOT USE ABMAY... WAY OVER PRICED AND THEY WILL UP SELL YOU ON THINGS THAT YOU DO NOT NEED!

ABMAY worked on my home without a permit which is required by MO. They also DID not follow through with the work that was in writing on my contract. The supervisor is very hard to get in touch with and the phone trolls will not give out her information. They worked on my home and come to find out have left me with a FIRE hazard problem that must be resolved ASAP and they have shown no concern to take care of this matter. The realtor company that I used to purchase the home NO longer recommends ABMAY for any of their home warranties. Its also funny how out of all the reviews only one was commented on by an ABMAY representative.

Be warned, flat rate pricing is to gouge you. I am retired and had a service agreement for 11 years. I spent an hour and a half being given my plumbingi.g options. It was really a sales tactic to sell things I did not want or need to the tune of $ 6000 plus. I ended up paying $608 for 30 minutes work. The technician replaced my kitchen faucet I purchased on my own and a garbage disposal I priced later at $85. So AB May made over $500 for 30 minutes actual time to install. Supposedly I got a 15% discount for being a Bronze member. It said I saved over $300
I called To discuss my dissatisfaction and was given a $60 coupon for future use. The manager explained this was due to increased overhead, maintaining a fleet of vehicles and high gasoline prices.

I guess I will either stop using them or try to find someone who does not take advantage of an emergency situation.

Instead of fixing our AC, they tried to sell us a  whole new furnace and AC for 20k,but if we acted today and paid cash, they'd do it for 18k.
Give me a F'n break. I knew it was a scam. Priced their unit with two other local firms and both came in at $7700.

Called another AC company. He came out filled the unit w leak filler, loaded up w Freon and said we should be good through the summer. He said he wouldn't recommend the system AB May recommended because it's quality rating was well below more well know brands. Even still he said he could install their system, if we wanted for 7500.

No thanks AB May!!!

I have been an AB May customer for about 20 years, even through all the price increases and service decreases (as far as what is covered)  We have the Gold agreement with stand alone appliances also covered. However, we are now looking around for an alternative service, as we are currently experiencing very poor service. I have been without a dryer for 6 weeks and everytime I call, I'm just given yet another later date for the arrival date of replacement part. New ETA is Jan 20. I understand that there are currently issues with getting parts, but the people I speak are not empathetic and have an oh well attitude. By the time the dryer is fixed (if ever) I will have spent enough money at the laundromat to buy a new dryer! Not to mention the time and inconvenience. I just feel like some sort of empathy and compensation is not too much to ask for.

NEVER. Unqualified, disrespectful, horrible service, & extortionist pricing.

I purchased a service plan at the first of the year. We were supposed to receive priority on all service calls. They take my $21.50 every month, I receive ZERO priority, and when someone comes out they get NOTHING fixed, they are disrespectful, or give me ludicrous estimates, ranging from $850-$7,000 for a problem that I, a 56 yr old grandmother did the actual excavating and dug the 4 foot by 4 foot hole to access the water service valve, and found a licensed, master plumber to fix for $170. BECAUSE the hole was already dug.

On April 9th I called with a list of things, big and small, and scheduled for for the 14th, a Saturday, 5 days out, with the intention of allowing the entire day to have some or most of the small things knocked out. Thhe day I scheduled I was given a time frame of 8am - 12:00pm. I got a call at 10:30 on the 14th saying the technician was running behind. I was agreeable because I planned to be there the entire day to allow for the work to be done. The technician arrived at 12:10pm, reviewed the list, assessed 3 of the problems, only had time to tackle 1 problem, a leaking tub faucet, and was unsuccessful at that. He left at 1:45 having fixed NOTHING, saying he had a charity event to attend.

One of the issues was a water service box for which the technician referred AB May's excavation department. The technician assigned for that was arrogant, condescending, and rude over the phone insisting that I was wrong about the solution to the problem when I told him I had already talked to an engineer at the water department. He had to call to find out for himself then still showed up at the property equally as arrogant as he was on the phone. The disrespect alone would keep me from letting him do the work....and the price quote.

Most recent issue: Error message on the thermostat causing the A/C to shut down allowing the temperature in the house to climb to 88.
I called for our priority service on a Friday morning. I was told someone could be out there the following day on a Saturday but no window of time could be given. I would get only a 30 minute advance warning call from the technician anytime after 8:00am. After waiting at home all day my daughter got a voicemail at 4:30pm saying they are rescheduling to Monday. The 2 adults in the home are at work on Monday from 8-5.
When my daughter got a  call from a technician Monday she told them no one could be at the house Monday, we are cancelling their service, and to call me because I'm the one who holds the service contract. He said he would call me. No one from AB May ever called me.
Call Bob Hamilton instead.

Read before you buy a home warranty... AB May's home warranty is a huge bait and switch. If you buy a home, and an appliance (or HVAC, plumbing etc) breaks, supposedly after they attempt to fix it, they'll replace it. That is the most attractive part of their marketing presentation. BUT (and it's a big but... like they wrote a whole section into the contract for this to avoid having to do what they claim in their marketing materials).... if they can't get the part for the appliance that breaks because it's been discontinued, they only give you money for the part, EVEN THOUGH THEY KNOW YOU WON'T BE ABLE TO FIND THE PART AND HAVE IT REPAIRED BY ANYONE ELSE (because the parts are discontinued!) and they KNOW you'll be buying a new appliance. Even if they say they'll cover up to $2000 in repairs per service call, they won't repair it if the appliance manager (Tommy Thompson) says it isn't worth it, at his personal discretion, and makes a decision not to repair it for you. So you end up with a check for a fractioof the cost of a new one. Their business model is to sell home warranties to home buyers/sellers and collect the cash, charge 75-100 per call, then pay as LITTLE as possible when it comes to actually taking care of the homeowner, which of course, would not actually involve issuing a credit or check in the amount of a standard, builder-grade make and model, which is marketed as part of their warranty. This is how they make money.

UPDATE AS OF 11/19/19:
Within hours of social media posting, husband and I have a voicemail and a Yelp response from two different members of staff. One soft and communicative, friendly from Page, daughter of the owner (a voicemail); one patronizing response from Maria on Yelp that claims a refunded service fee (we should be excited about that 75.00... since the oven has been broken for 2 MONTHS... ladies and fellas, I have four kids and we both work full time, so *that's not exciting*), as well as a significant amount of money for a discontinued part that they know we cannot get... rounding up, they've cut us an undeposited check for $490 for a built-in double wall oven PART. A.B. May and their Yelp responder Megan M. know that we will have to replace our double oven for roughly 1400-2000 for a baseline builder-grade appliance BECAUSE THE PART THEY NEED IS NOT AVAILABLE AND THEREFORE THEY CANNOT FIX IT. Or will not fix it, based on the appliance manager's discretion... it would probably cost them too much to rebuild the motherboard on the oven (even though they promise up to$2000 in repairs per call). So if they can't fix it, they'll replace it right? Nope.

Maria M., on Yelp, says we should be happy with the $490 they wrote a check for. Except their check means we have an inoperable oven, they have discretionarily decided not to fix it, and we have to spend 1000-1500 on a new appliance, even though we have a home warranty. But hey, said Tommy the manager on the phone, You at least got SOMETHING.

Side note: this is on top of a discontinued gas range they've already paid for the part for  (we accepted that one because we didn't know any better)).

Megan M. claims they have worked hard to make this right.... what work? Ummmmm, after a couple of weeks of calls from us, promises to have a supervisor call us: a delayed and dismissive phone call with Tommy (appliance manager) to my husband Josh, then two calls with me, they have told us we stick by our 490$ check for the parts (for an oven that will cost $2000). You can just cancel your plan if you don't like it. (That plan you paid $500 for... then $600 for additional service calls). Tommy made sure he told me he checked with Mike Green (plumbing and electrical director) and Sam Posladek (COO). So FYI... this isn't a mistake. It's standard practice.

Huge waste of money.  I pay them almost $65 a month for a Gold membership and everytime I need something serviced it takes a week to get someone out to my house, unless it's dire emergency.  There's no preferential treatment for their Gold members. Once someone does get to my house they charge their members another $60 service fee and mark up any parts you need by 1000%, yes I said 1000%. The 2 free services they offer in the spring and fall to service your air conditioner and furnice isn't worth the $780 I pay a year.  I'm better off hiring someone when I need them.  Needless to say I'll be cancelling my membership today.

Go to Bob Hamilton, even if it is a little more money.

Simply put, the installers at AB May are non-professionals.  One of their drivers switched lanes without using his turn signal while i was in his blind spot.   He proceeded to switch to my lane and I hoked to let him know I was there.  Immediately after, he made an effort to roll down his window and flip me the bird and then brake checked me on the highway.

Dude, you are driving in a company vehicle with your local number posted all over it - how can you be so stupid to flip someone the bird WHILE IN YOUR COMPANY CAR!  Especially a company who's marketing scheme revolves around trust, local support, and a family setting.

He must have been having a bad case of the Mondays i guess? Won't ever use them or refer AB May to my friends and family.  Amateurs.

Amazing service. My security company set up my Nest Thermostat. The security company had no clue what they were doing I was up at 1:30 in the morning when my heat wouldn't stop blowing even though my ac was on. It was 83 degrees in my house & 32 degrees outside.

I called A.B. May & they had a guy out the next morning.

Matt Sanchez with A.B.May came out & installed my NEST thermostat properly. He also cleaned my HVAC & adjusted my setting to save me the most money on my electric bill.
Now when I turn my AC on only cold air comes out. Thank goodness!! Do you have any idea how frustrating it was to sweat when it was 32 degrees outside. Lol
If you have a nest & a security company set it up call these people immediately. They know what they are doing.

Going to call next month to get a humidifier added on to my system which is much needed up here in the winter time. I had no idea how affordable a humidifier could be until Matt told me.

Had service on 27 year old furnace.  Pilot light wouldn't stay on. Technician took apart the igniter (gas flows thru it, then small copper tube to actual pilot light), cleaned the small copper tubing piece, took out the pilot light and all the burners and cleaned them up with a wire bristle brush and reassembled it all.  Worked great.

We had AB May install a 2.5 ton AC unit in our house on a Friday. The unit didn't keep the house cool. We called AB May and let them know the issue. They had someone out here that day (Saturday). He tried an adjustment and told us to let them know if it worked. It didn't. We let them know Monday morning that the unit wasn't cooling the house. They had the unit replaced on Friday (would have been sooner except for our schedule). We had a crew of very professional friendly guys who switched the unit out for a 3 ton. It required quite a bit of work to accomplish the switch. Everything was completed and our unit keeps the house perfectly cool. Many companies would have played blame games before switching out the unit. AB May did no such thing and was just interested in having a happy customer. Way to go with your customer service!!

This business is a joke. They told me they would be at my house some time after noon. I ended up taking time off of work to be here when they SAID THEY WOULD BE HERE,  but they never showed and called to cancel the appointment at 7:30pm. Hopefully, others will see this and go somewhere that appreciates their customers and the time/money they would have spent on their services. Needless to say, they have lost a chance to have a longtime customer that's new to the area.

We have had a Gold Maintenance agreement with AB May for many years now. We recently had a problem with our A/C and they offered us a deal to replace it rather than repair it with R22 freon (which is $100/ pound now). They offered us a discount equal to the amount of the repair (which would have only cost us $60 out of pocket) and would have cost them as much as $1500 or more depending on the amount of freon we required.

I was curious and got two other estimates from a couple local companies. The price from AB May was 37% cheaper with the discount from the lower of the two bids. The other bid was 50% more costly.

We got a free upgrade because the unit we selected 16 SEER was unavailable at that time but they could get an 18 SEER unit at no additional price since what we wanted they could not get in a timely manner.

Since our house has two a/c and furnaces, we got a good deal on the second unit as well.

Our house is very nice and cool now and we are able to keep it at a higher temperature and still feels good. We got the Google nest thermostats. Pretty cool also.

If you didn't know, there are only a handful of air conditioning / furnace manufacturers around. So, before you get your a/c or furnace replaced, check to see who's unit you are buying and why it is so much more expensive than another brand with the same warranty.

FYI - AB May sells only Daikin, who also make (and own) Amana and Goodman. One of the bids we got from another company was Amana system. The highest bid was for Lennox. That salesman was trying to be really technical but I researched and found he was full of bologna. He said we did not have enough airflow for a high SEER unit without a lot bigger ductwork.

So, they pretty much have you in a pickle when your a/c is broken and you need it fixed quickly, but if you are proactive (if your a/c is around 15 years old you better think about it) you can find the best deal and save big money.

The only discouraging thing we feel should have been done better with AB May is that with the a/c check this spring, someone could have inspected the unit and found the potential problem before the condensation flooded our garage. So now I have some drywall repair to do but saved $6K overall if not more. I can patch drywall and paint.

Unethical and dishonest. Run - do not use. Will tell you something is broken when it isn't. Will upsell parts that aren't needed. Charges outrageous labor fees. We pay $70 a month for a contract that is supposed to cover our sump pump.  We called for service and agreed to pay an additional $60.  The tech claimed to fix the problem without even removing the cover on the pit.  I expressed doubt.  He said there would be an additional $77 to remove the cover.  He did remove remove the cover, messed around, again claimed the problem was fixed, and left.  I ran a hose to test and the problem was not fixed.  Another tech came and fixed the problem.  In my opinion the $77 was a scam.  Also the first tech seemed to me to be under trained.

The last furnace/air maintenance the tech came 50 minutes after the 12 to 2  window and didn't even apologize.

We've had a home warranty with AB May for 12 years. Since another company bought them two years ago they've been getting more and more about upselling than repairing. I've had the whole house Gold Agreement with AB May for years.  I called on Saturday, 6/20 with a leaking garbage disposer.  I scheduled a service call for Monday, 6/22 from 8am to noon.  I was contacted around 11am saying that the technician was running behind, and it would be after noon before someone could be there.  As I had afternoon appointments, this wouldn't work for me.  I called back to reschedule the appointment for Tuesday morning.  Every time I call I wait on hold for at least 5 minutes because they haven't obviously hired enough people to answer phone calls.  After finally getting through, I was told someone would be at my home before noon.  He arrived at 12:10.  He installed a new disposer in about 30 minutes, but left behind a MESS of moldy, DISGUSTING crap in my non-disposer sink!!!  I gagged and vomited when I saw it!  YUCK YUCK YUCK!!!

AB May contacted me, refunded my service charge and apologized for the mess left behind.  I'll upgrade the # of stars after my next service with them.

Future service calls have been handled quickly and professionally.

Our furnace 'died' and AB May diagnosed the igniter.  The technician spent a lot of effort trying to sell me the warranty, but never took the time to tell me that my furnace and the intake pipe were full of leaves and debris from squirrels getting in.  In addition, in my 'history' it said this had happened before.

What a joke! Noon appointment turns into 4:30 and the tech spent less than a half hour to accomplish nothing and charge me $89 for it. He was in such a hurry his phone rang as he walked out my door to say he was on his way to the next appointment. All I needed was a faucet in a spare bath either repaired or replaced, and one in the kitchen replaced. The first thing he did is start working me towards purchasing a water system, then looks at my bathroom faucet and says it needs to be replaced and new supply lines added. Then he looks at the new kitchen faucet I bought from HD and says he would need new supply lines again (which he had none on his truck). So I went ahead and pulled the bathroom faucet myself, cleaned the build up, put it back, and now it works great. I'll try the kitchen next-Thanks for saving me over $400+ for something I can do myself. Your loss A.B. May!!!

Really just a company ran that looks to install the cheapest equipment along with offering some of the worst warranty packages possible. Had a warranty purchased by the previous home owners and it covered basically nothing.

When the one thing that was covered, the AC unit, went down, it still cost $4000 to have replaced. A week after it was replaced the contractor went out so they came out and replaced it. Here we are a year later and the contractor went out yet again, but they were unable to come out and fix it so I had to spend another $400 to have Anthony heating and cooling (great people) come out and replace it. Loved how right after a year the same junky part failed and they magically were unable to help with a 90 degree house and a pregnant wife in it.

Avoid this company at all costs, unless you're selling a house and want to saddle the new owners with a cheap warranty.

We've had good luck with A.B. May in the past, but this experience did not meet our expectations. The technician arrived late, did not wear shoe covers when he came into the house, reeked of cigarette smoke and also smoked on the property. He used the bathroom and left the sink filthy and soiled the towels. As a customer prior to this experience, we would have recommended A.B. May but based on this situation, we would not. Very disappointed.

I have had a Gold Agreement with AB May for the past few years. For $60+/month they come to the home for a $60 service fee. I don't know what has changed but of late when people come out it is like being invaded by a time share salesman trying to up-sell me at every opportunity. I have the agreement for piece of mind and because I expect to be taken care of when issues arise. That has not been my experience. After a long pitch trying to sell me a $1500+ sump pump by disparaging competitors and disputing the ability to install the system cheaper and the efficacy of any other unit, I asked if the plumber was on commission only to be told why does that matter?. Well it does matter because for the $60+ per month and the $60 service call I want someone in my house working on my behalf and not their own. I want to know that the deal I get if I should decide to upgrade from the base product offered means that I am getting the upgraded product with the standard product being deducted (at a minimum). Also, read your warranty because it is not written as it is sold. Odds are you are bound to be disappointed when you actually need to rely on them for help. All I can say is that my confidence in AB May has been eroded and I feel taken advantage of by a company with whom I have expressed my loyalty by having this plan and making them my first-call for support.

I started with ABM a for years ago with a home warranty when I purchased another home. I was very impressed with the service  I received for electrical, plumbing, and A/C as the house had been empty for 4 years and needed significant work.   We decided to continue our relationship and upgrade to a gold service plan after the 1st year. This is the 3rd time we have used our plan and every time have been more pleased than the last. I called at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday of memorial weekend and had a technician at my home by 3:00 p.m.. I was given preference not only because I am a gold plan holder but because I had no AC and health issues affected by that.   He was able to quickly diagnose and repair my issue and my house cool down several hours later.

Not impressed at all. This is one Homeowner that won't be doing business with AB May. CALL SERVICE EXPERTS

During the recent heat wave our A/C went out after hours. Our first call was to A B May. Long story short I have a five year old furnace and heat pump purchased from A B May. The lady answering the phone at AB May was rude at best and they wouldn't send someone out unless someone in the house was bed ridden. I do have someone in the house recovering from a motorcycle accident that's on medications that makes them much more sensitive to the heat. After calling just about everyone in the yellow pages I called Service Experts. There name says it all. At 1:20am the repair man showed up. He was friendly, efficient and took the time to answer my questions. Of the companies that would send someone Service Experts didn't try to pillage the village and overcharge me for the service. I will be purchasing a service plan with Service Experts and encourage anyone to do the same. Thank you Service Experts!!

I had a great experience with buying my new furnace.  But I had a pretty bad experience when their plumber to came out to fix my faucet in the downstairs bathroom that wasn't working.  He spent a lot of time in the basement, then came upstairs and told us that the piping in my 100+ year old house was not done correctly, and that he would have to tear up my kitchen floor, tear up the bathroom, and tear up a wall between the kitchen and dining room, and re-pipe the entire downstairs, at a cost of over $6000.  As you can imagine, telling a woman you want to tear up her beautiful, tiled, recently remodeled kitchen did not go over too well!!  I could not get him out of my house fast enough!  I called another plumber and he said that's ridiculous, the pipe is going through a crawl space from the basement to the bathroom and all that needs to be done is the pipe needs to be insulated and the crawl space insulated, he charged me under $300 and the faucet has been working every since.  I feel like the AB May guy was seriously trying to overcharge me!  Also every time they come over they try to sell me their gold plan.  High pressure to buy the gold plan but I am not interested when the service is hit or miss.

The person sent to fix our problem had no interest in fixing the problem.  The AC breaker and main breaker were tripping.  The guy took the cover off the panel and said he didn't see a problem but we could use a new panel. ( We had had the AC checked and everything was okay. )
That was that.  He stared at the panel and said he didn't see a problem.
I spoke with my brother, who is an electrician in New York, and he said: check the main breaker, wire from the main to the panel, and wire from the panel to the AC. Eureka! There was a nasty burned spot on the wire to the AC.  My husband spliced in a new wire and is going to replace the wire.
I don't think the A. B. May guy could change a light bulb.  He probably would tell you you needed a new lamp.
Yes, the panel could be upgraded but it is not that bad.
Both my husband and I took off work to meet this doofus.  We are sitting at the dining room table and patiently waiting for the bill to be written up.  I ask him what is taking so long.  His reply is he is writing the recommendation for the new panel.  I ask him for the bill so we can get back to work.  He tells us how much is owed and I pay.
Waste of my time and my money.

We had a service call for a plumbing leak and  the leak reappeared couple of days after it was fixed. We had another service call for a humidifier installation and the RH has not improved more than 30 percent monitored over a period of 3 weeks. I called back not knowing the services are only warranted for 30 days and was told I have to pay $75 each for them to come back and check the humidifier installation and the plumbing leak. To check their own work. Very disappointed. Will not use them again.

PS: I requested an automatic model for the humidifier installed but the tech made a decision not to install per instructions. Chose not to install the sensor and notified us at the end of work.

We've been paying the $60/month for the GOLD package with ABMay since our warranty expired after buying our home.  They came called to schedule appointments before, now they no longer do that, so I called them the other day to check on that, they said it's now up to me to schedule the appointments, so I scheduled one... Well tonight our AC went out, called their number and NOPE, they can't come out, it's only an emergency in their minds if someone is bed ridden, talked to 3 different people, got the same line every time. I will be cancelling that GOLD package for sure. We've been ripped off, no questions.  Called Bob Hamilton, not sure what kind of service they'll provide but at least someone is coming out tonight to check it out.

This has to be the worst company in the Kansas City area. I have had nothing but problems every time they come out. And they can never fix it on the first time so plan on taking several days off anytime they come out. They always send out an inexperienced Technician to do the maintenance. I have the yearly maintenance plan on my 6 year old AC and furnace and every year for the past 4 there has been major issues. Now they are trying to double charge me for the maintenance, but luckily American Express allows me to view past statements so I can prove that they have already billed me.
This company is absolutely terrible and I will never use them again and make sure that everyone I know is aware of the problems. I realize there is going to be some issues with every company, but this is absolutely ridiculous.

I called A.B. May to schedule an home energy audit/inspection.  I'm new to the area, not very knowledgeable on homeowner stuff, and couldn't figure out why my electric bill was so high.  They scheduled a 'Service Advisor' to come out yesterday.  So, Joe L. shows up and it was an incredibly thorough, informative, and useful experience.  Joe is a true expert and took his time walking through my home, inspecting the furnace, A/C unit, etc. and meticulously going through the exterior, living areas, and attic.  He listened attentively to my concerns and was able to quickly diagnose (and fix!) the main problem, identified several quick fixes that would reduce our bill, and pointed out some recommendations for the future.  I couldn't be happier with his skill and professionalism and would give six stars, if Yelp let me.  Highly, highly recommend them!

I was a returning customer who previously had work on my HVAC and had used ABMAY for my Spring/Fall maintenance checks and repairs.
Today I called for labor only to replace a hot water tank I had purchased the night before when my old tank finally kicked.  The new tank was $450.00 and all I needed was 1 to 1-1/2 hours of labor to install.
I was quoted $585.00, For Labor Only ! ! !  What A Rip Off ! ! !
Doubt if I will ever call them again ! ! !

On 11/1, I had to wait three hours with zero plumbing because the t-line plug valve broke (AB May provided this service). 8 days later the plug fell off and was cracked.  I called AB May at 9:22 in the morning.  They said someone could come on Wednesday.  Due to the fact that I had zero plumbing available, I said it was an emergency and it could not wait till Wednesday without anyone in the house being able to use the bathroom, take a shower, wash their hands etc.  I was told I would be added to the list and all they could do was give me 30 minutes notice.  I called in the noon hour to get an estimate arrival time and was told late afternoon.  I began to move my afternoon work meetings to another day.  I called at 3 and was told there was no estimate of arrival and that there were 3 houses in front of me.  By four I cancelled my evening plans.  At 4:30 I called and was told there was one house in front of me.  At 5:30 I called and was told the plumber was finishing a house and I would be next and I asked to speak to a supervisor who ensured me that the next available plumber would be at my house and that this situation was unacceptable.  At 6:30 I called and was told the plumber was finishing a house and I was next and I spoke to another supervisor who told me that at 9:30 it was marked as a non-emergency.  By 6:50 a plumber was at my house and explained to me that he had already been on one call back service today and that the plug broke because the original AB May plumber incorrectly installed it in the first place.  The plumber tried every plug that he had in the truck and none fit.  He informed me that the part center closed at 4:30 or he would be able to go to their parts center and find a plug that would fit.  Keep in mind, I had called at 9:22 in the morning and no one had come to my house until 6:50.At 7:30, the plumber was still on a phone call with his supervisor trying to figure out a solution to this problem caused by AB May.  Meanwhile I have been 10 hours without plumbing, had to reschedule meetings at work and cancel my evening plans because the original AB May plumber failed to do a good job, the original dispatcher did a poor job and every dispatcher after him failed do correct the error.  The plumber had to jimmy rig a solution (wrapped the broken plug with plastic) and I was told someone would be back in the morning around 9 am.  I now have to move meetings in the mornings as well.

As a customer, period this has been unacceptable.  As a Gold service member of AB May for 2 years this is beyond acceptable.

I have a mixed review for AB May.  Their availability was great.  I needed a technician soon and they were able to come.  The tech didn't find anything (19yo system) and once he turned the unit back on, it worked.  He suggested I get a new thermostat because he suspected it was the issue (service fee $89.50).  Brought a new thermostat, setup AB May to install (service fee + install $266) and in 4 hours, system was doing the same thing.  Was able for tech to come the next day, no fee, but he did identify what was wrong- relay switches.  When asked about the fees for the thermostat because that was not the problem, I was told if I brought a new system from AB May, they would put the $266 toward it.  What's the difference between a wrong diagnosis if you buy a system or not?  Thought I should get a refund no matter what.

Have used AB May since we purchased our home and they were the provider of the home warranty.  Since we have purchased 50Gal water heater and new HVAC/Heat Pump.  Very satisfied!
Initially the HWH kept going out and after a couple of trips to repair and a few emails back and forth AB May came out and installed a new HWH.  It has performed flawlessly since.  The HVAC is great and our electricity and gas bills have declined since installation.  Would recommend to others.

After a month in temperate San Diego arrived back in Leawood and our A/C went out on a Sunday morning.  Fortunately, I have a gold agreement, which covers repairs with a monthly fee..  Troy came out  and it turns out we needed a new fan and motor.  The temp in our house was 85 degrees.  He put a blower and motor in to tide us over until the factory part came in.  On Monday PM, the part arrived and Monday evening a technician named Rusty came out and completed the job.  I have used AB May since 2004 and they have always delivered.  What could have been a nightmare was fixed within a day.  I would recommend AB May without hesitation.  .

We have a home warranty through AB May for the house we just purchased, so when our air conditioner didn't work, we called them.  They came out quickly and said that the repair would cost more than was allowed under warranty so the unit needed to be replaced.

We got 3 estimates between $9,000 and $13,000.  These estimates included a credit of $2,000 due to the warranty, so you'd think that we were getting a good deal, right?  Well, we contacted another reputable company for a bid.  For $6,100 we got a unit comparable to AB May's $9,000 estimate.

Paying for a home warranty and then paying 50% more for the product is a rip off!

What a great bunch of guys to show up on time and completely solved my heating problem. They even wore boot coverings to not soil our floors. They were just absolutely amazing and teriffic. They charged almost nothing to deal with my problem and were such gentlemen. Nick and his supervisor cole cannon did such a fine job of solving my boiler problem that words cannot express my gratitude. I would recommend these guys for boiler issues as there are very very few folks who sill work on boilers. Best regards. Ric Delaney. Kansas City.

At the time of purchasing my home, under contact to the seller's agent and at the request of the seller's as a condition of the home purchase AB May was to vent the existing bath fan in a second floor bathroom to the exterior. The receipt for the work was included in the purchase materials.

Months later while cleaning the gutters in the spring I began looking at the roofline from the backyard trying to see the vent that was installed. Not seeing anything near where it would be vented, I went up into the attic.

I discovered an aluminum dryer-duct vent tube run from the ceiling four feet over to where the rafters are seated on the ceiling plate wedged against the roof decking and the sill plate. It didn't look right, and not what I'd visualized when asking that the bath vent be vented to the exterior.

The tech from AB May had also used a 3 versus a 4 dia vent tube, smaller than the 4 ring on the vent, and taped over the connection, very sloppily done and basically just rigged.

I went down, turned on the bath fan and went back up to the attic. I could feel the air-flow from the fan blowing back into the attic. It was simply blowing against the interior of the roof and the insulation.

He had NOT vented the bath fan to the exterior, but had made it appear as if it were.

Meaning, the bath fan was still venting into the attic, a worse condition in winter than in summer.

If I hadn't myself gone up and looked, and wasn't somewhat knowledgable, I wouldn't have known.

The moisture from the bath has been discharging into the attic space for the last six months.

Maybe the seller's agent from a (once) reputable realty company when I was buying the house told the tech to do it on the cheap. Maybe he assumed there was an opening for the air to vent at the sill plate. But that he didn't check, or knew he was just rigging it to appear as if it were venting, is and was simply wrong.

It should have been done correctly in the first place, and that it wasn't with the potential for damage and insects it could cause leaving the new homeowner to believe the problem had been fixed is at the very least utterly unprofessional. I won't be calling AB May to come redo it.

Great service from them.  Also, it's nice that they do it all plumbing, electrical, HVAC, etc.  They are prompt, and do great work.  They cost a little more than some places, but it's worth it to have them come out once and do the job correctly.  We used the gold plan at our prior home that was 50 years old, and that was always worth it, sometimes just for the discounts if we upgraded.  In an older home it seems like there's always something to be repaired, and it was worth paying the $50 to things repaired/replaced.  We have a newer home now, so we just call them as needed.  If it's not right they will take care of it, but they seem to get repairs right the first time.  I recommend them.

We had an AB May home warranty policy that came with the purchase of our house. A few days after we took procession we got a call saying that the house had to be inspected before our warranty would take effect so they could see if there were any exemptions to the policy. Non were found, and we received our policy.
On Easter Sunday our kitchen sink backed up. The following morning I called AB May to clean it out. They sent two technicians who weren't plumbers to clean it out. They looked at the sink and said they had to call the office because the sink was installed illegally. They took pics and got on the phone repeatedly. Finally a real plumber showed up and looked at the sink and agreed that they couldn't snake it and that the work was extensive and he would send us a bid to fix it. We asked why this was not pointed out at our inspection and been made an exemption. It was obviously easy to see as everyone who had looked at it that day saw the problem as soon as they opened the cabinet. He said their inspectors aren't very good. In the meantime he would not snake the drain until the corrections were made. So still no sink. The bid came for $2130.00. And we had to remove cabinets downstairs in my husbands workshop.
I realize this is an old house (60 years). And that things are probably not up to today's standards.  Someday I'm sure we will have to make upgrades. But to refuse to a simple snaking of the drain until we agree is inappropriate. They sited all sorts of things that could happen with old pipes so they would rather upgrade it all before touching it.
A quick phone call to my regular plumber, and he came out, snaked the drain in about 30 minutes. $125 and we were back in business. No disastrous floods or problems.
These home warranty policies are just a way to get them in the house and find upgrades to cover their free service calls. Same thing happened at the house we sold. The real estate agent had a policy with them, and told us to get an annual service on the furnac. He came, but found something on the humidifier that of course wasn't covered that we had to fix.
It's a scheme. Don't waste your money.

To start with this company is apparently too big for its britches, we just purchased a home in Shawnee Kansas the seller contracted a be May to come in and fix a faucet in a tub that was leaking they half ass completed that and then they went into the master bathroom into a soaker tub and thought they should fix it too but they had a problem they needed parts they left they did not come back for four days on the fourth day with already signed our contract for the home and the next day maybe Mason Lane out a technician who apparently didn't know what he was doing and he left water on and took the spout off of the tub and water with spewing everywhere it came running down to the floor below and threw a Canlite and got the ceiling all wet the floor all wet and then because he realize something happened he put his tail between his legs and he walked out of our house and left without a word and did not take care of the problem.
AB may authorize A water restoration company to come out and check the moisture level in our ceiling and floor upstairs to which he reported back to A.B. May and they waited 24 hours to respond so after 48 hours of a soaked ceiling now they have fans drying it but they're not addressing the fact that they messed up our soaker tub, we got an email from them that stated they weren't taking responsibility. I would never use them I wouldn't let my dog use their lawn to go to the bathroom they suck!

Our basement had flooded and my husband was out of town. I relied on an experts opinion as to what the issue would be. My brother in law is in the industry but I was not able to get him out to our house the same day. I called A B May. They showed up and went downstairs to our basement to diagnose the issue. They lifted the cover of our sump pump (which was filled to the rim with water) and quickly told me, It's broken and no longer working. You will need a new one Not once did they touch anything to try to fix an issue or evaluate the problem.

I trusted this was the issue since they were professionals. I paid them the service fee and they emailed me a detailed quote to fix and replace the sump pump. The quote was $1,789. It felt expensive to me. Again, my husband was out of town and I was not knowledgeable about sump pumps. Fortunately, my brother in law called and was able to come out and look at the sump pump. I wanted another opinion before I dropped $1700 in 24 hours! He simply walked into the house, to the sump pump, placed his hand down into it and surprise it was working fine. Turned out it had been clogged and just needed to be cleaned. My basement stopped flooding immediately and no sump pump was broken. No money needed to be spent. FIRST of all I am extremely upset with A B May and I will NEVER use or recommend them to anyone. It was clear they wanted to just sell.  What a horrible company and AB May should be ashamed that they have their employees doing this.

DO NOT use A B May for home repair. You will never know if it is an issue that can be fixed easily (like in my case) or a true issue.

My journey with AB May began about 5 years ago with a broken dishwasher. Well, it wasn't fully broken until the tech literally broke the door. Long and short is we were going to be charged over $500 or join the service plan and it was free. Since then, we've put in a new furnace/AC/water softener and had multiple repairs--most of them had to be fixed a second time! To this day, my faucet still vibrates when you turn off the water from the kitchen faucet. The miscues are too numerous to list, and spending $71/month on this plan, only to rarely use it--and the repairs are typically last less than a year--is like flushing good money down the poor plumbing. Carter is a great guy, and I am just more disappointed that they literally feel like they nickle-and-dime you for everything. They make a big deal about the city not requiring a permit for furnace/ac but they have it inspected anyway. Ironically, the install actually failed the unnecessary inspection! I have some pic of the install, and these are not even the worse of it. You have to stay on top of them to get everything cleaned up and installed back to original fit and look. There's too much competition out there, folks, so look around before you decide upon a true partner in your home maintenance.

This company has gone completely down hill since they moved locations thanks to heavy nepotism this company has gone down the toilet #dont let your family run things they are not qualified for. I received a home warranty with my home when i moved in and my water heater has gone out 2 times, in which i called for A.B. May to repair or replace both times the first time a large, very rude plumber came out one evening and said that it was against code to have the water heater in the utility closet. He left. I used to install water heaters and could not think of a code that makes it against code for the water heater to be in that utility closet so i looked it up, guess what there is no code. Just a bad employee to a bad company that doesnt want to stand behind there warranties! Now I repaired the water the first time, it just went out again yesterday so i called up A.B. May they send the same rude, large plumber and first thing he says is if it's still in the closet still, i cant replace it i told him again that there is no code against it. he still refused, he also refused to call his supervisor. In my opinion A.B. May was a great company throughout the 90's but they are turning into a company i will ask people not to use because i no longer trust them as a household name. I hope this prevents some headaches

AB May says, We do our best to keep our pricing reasonable and competitive in today's market, while leaving enough margin to pay our employees what they deserve for the quality work they do.

I still don't understand how charging $700 for 20 minutes of labor is reasonable.

Terrible!!! Scheduled  electrician and plumber to come out on same day. Was told they would be there between 8-11. Electrician shows  up at 9:30;plumber never showed. Called AB May multiple times to ask were plumber was and kept getting told 15  min. away. Finally at 12:30 I canceled the plumber. I left a msg for the plumbing dept manager to call me back and what a surprise he never did. The customer service rep was a flippant, rude girl who had no idea what she was doing. We have a home warranty and have only been living in our home for 3 months when the AC goes out. We called on Saturday and the technician called back saying she's cancelling the appointment because we are too far out for her for the night and to call back Sunday. We call and again are cancelled on until Monday. So much for a home warranty or emergency. Meanwhile the house is sitting at 82 and it's in the 90's outside and I have pets and kids. I'm new to A B Mays home warranty plan. What I didn't know was that trying the repair myself would cost me more than the deductible....I learned my lesson there (btw AB May management should probably make that clear at the time if purchase)

But regardless of all that the Plumbers (technicians ?) who responded, Ryan and Stephen were absolute rock stars. They were speedy in diagnosing the problem. They explained my options, made good recommendations and performed the work rapidly and flawlessly.

With a cancer patient in the house having the water shut off for a long period of time would have been problematic, Stephen and Ryan understood the situation and got us back to normal in record time.....plus they were both really nice people !!

Kudos to A.B. May for employing these kind of folks. I'd recommend The Gold Plan to anyone !

Your employee was A+. But after researching your prices after the fact I'm disgusted. That isn't his fault, thos company used to be legit, not now!!!!.

The disposal can be bought at Lowes for $399 you charged $1,186

The pressure value is $95 you charged $885.

And this is with a supposed member savings of $662. That cost me $90.  SCAM!!!!!

And labor was about 2 hrs. Plus a $75 service fee.   I'm embarrassed I got scammed.

$2236.00

What a rip off!!!

I'm kicking myself for not  pricing this . Will never use you again. Total rip off

I would give 0 stars if I could. Deplorable customer service. They do not care about you after they have your money.
AB May installed a new water heater Monday. Tuesday I came home and the house smelled of gas. AB May came out and said the new water heater had a faulty valve and was leaking gas. They turned off the gas and said they could fix it the next morning (Wednesday). Wednesday morning the tech says that the manufacturer will not allow AB May to repair the valve. A new company has to install it and that won't happen until Friday. So that will be 3 days with no hot water.
I called customer service at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday requesting assistance - e.g. getting hot water sooner, compensation for a hotel, etc. Was told I would get a call back later. I called back at 1:30. Was told I would get a call back later. I called at 3:30 (very angry at this point) and was told either (a) AB May could repair the valve Friday (not sure why they could suddenly do this) or (b) they could come out between 7:30-8 the next morning to put in a new hot water heater (not sure why they couldn't offer this at 9:30 a.m.). We opted for (b).
By 8 a.m. Thursday, no one had arrived. I called customer service and was told the plumbers were in a meeting and would get to us when they were done. At this point I had enough and told the representative they needed to come and remove their water heater and I would find someone else to install another. I also told her I wanted a refund. She understood and said...I would get a call back later. A tech came and removed the water heater and a new company is here installing another. Should have hot water soon.
Not once has a manager from AB May called to discuss this situation. No effort to make it right. Still no credit for the removed water heater and I have yet to receive a return phone call.
PLEASE do not waste your time and money on this company. There are plenty of other reputable companies in the area that care about their customers.

We're GOLD SERVICE Members for 4-5 years and treated like garbage by the customer service team after THEY cancelled our maintenance at 5:15pm as I took the last day off from work for the remainder of the year!  I admit I was miffed when James called and he could've cared less!  His words, we'd try to fit you in on Saturday, what's your schedule that day?!  I was infuriated and finally just hung up!  I called back today and spoke to all the Village Idiot's except for....a supervisor!  As the mic was keyed on the customer service rep's wireless mic I heard each of them refuse to take the call and tried to pawn me off down the line, with a final, I'll have Shelly O'Dell give you a call!  Never happened!  I asked for the owners email address and was refused!  Nobody cares at this company and that's fine!

Over the past several years, I've actually talked to each of the techs and only one had something nice to say, but, I still heard from him the negative side of how bad the company truly is, over priced and can't keep anybody around due to the management and incompetent supervisor's!

It's all apparent as I've come upon this situation!  I read thru hundreds of reviews and have come to the same conclusion as them, the customer service is horrific and they try to overcharge you for anything and everything!  Disgusting company and please, please, please, please.....stay away!

The company has grown too big to care about the customer any longer and they've lost control of the values of the original company!  The commercials are a smoke screen from the reality of what's really going on within the company!  What a joke!

Valerie took excellent care of us. While I appreciate all of your HVAC Service Technicians, Valerie has been exceptionally professional, courteous, and diligent in maintaining our HVAC system. I will ask for her by name on future service calls. Thank you to Valerie and AB May for helping us maintain our home. We deeply appreciate the service.

I received the survey email with my invoice but it didn't allow me to leave any comments and I want to do so.  Steve S, #1621, did a great job for us working on our tankless water heater.  Even though ours is older and could have been replaced, we opted to repair the one we have.  Steve ordered the parts through Rheem which were mailed directly to us.  Steve replaced the motor but was missing two parts in the Rheem package so had to make a third trip to our home to finish the repair.  The missing parts arrived the next day and Steve had already made a note with A.B. May dispatch saying that he would need to return the next day.  Great service from Steve and the dispatch people.  Everything went smoothly, the water heater is working great, and we're very happy with Steve's service and personable attitude.  We'll definitely call A. B. May again!  Thank you for a job well done!

If it wasn't for the service technician my rating would have been lower, but he was great.  Very knowledgeable and clear with his explanations.  He did a great job with the final installation..

My AC unit began making a horrible noise so I called AB May and they send out a tech.  She looked everything over and found that our blower motor was totally shot.  She took out the blower motor while checking everything out.  She told us it would cost over $1000 to get that fixed.  She told us that since our AC unit was over 12 years old the could probably put in a new unit for around $4000.  We figured it would be better to go with the new unit.  She was going to put the blower motor back in but I told her since it wouldn't work there was no need to reinstall it.  With my insistence she left it out and in front of the unit.
When the salesman can to give us a bid I was gone but my wife showed him the unit.  He never asked her about the blower motor laying on the floor.  He just quoted the price of a new unit, about $4600.
We scheduled the install and when the technician got there the first thing he asked was about the blower motor on the floor.  He told us that we would still need to pay the additional $1044 for the motor.plus $500 more because our exhaust pipes needed repaired.
In the end we wound up getting both an AC unit and a furnace as both of the old units were 12 years old and the outside AC coil was over 20 years old.
Pros:Great technician and 12 year warranty
Cons: Inability for the sales team to communicate effectively with the technicians causing bad information

AB May has really earned my one star. My frustration with them has been compounding for a few months now. We purchased their home warranty when we bought our home in October and have called them for several issues. The first issue was with our stove that took them multiple visits, payments and 10 weeks to finally figure it out. They ordered the wrong part 4 times and finally concluded that the pilot light was not turned up high enough. We then had them come out on other occasions (to fix an issue on something that IS covered under my home warranty), charge me for the visit, to only tell me that I needed to call another company to fix the issue. AB May is an awful company and needs to get their act together.

The servicemen were great, but the front office is Terrible.  After we bought our house we had the dishwasher fixed 4 times.  Taking off work, washing dishes by hand for months, and it  cost us $150.  After each part failed, we kept hearing this time it will work. Wrong!  After the 4th attempt they finally decided to give us a $263 credit.  So the 4 fixes, disruption of our schedule, and washing by hand for months is worth $113.  What a joke! I will never use A B May again and discourage the use of their services to everyone I know.

Pleased so far with home warranty. We've called twice in a month for two different issues. Each time the tech was friendly and knowledgeable. The first tech I don't recall his name but the second one is Greg S. Greg helped resolve our AC issue which ended up being a couple easy fixes.  When I called for the appointment they had someone out next day.

I've used AB MAY several times over the last few years and so far, I'm happy with the service.  Of course, I've mainly used them for maintenance purpose of the AC/Furnace.  I've had one occasion when I think they took me for a ride...when they installed my disposal.  They said I should get a new one and I hadn't had a problem with the old one.  I kept it and it still works...three years later.  Guess they may have wanted a bonus.  Best to get a couple quotes before any company comes in and does something for you.

DO NOT get a Home Warranty contract through
AB May. They've been called to our home twice now and both times come up with every BS excuse they could, in order not to provide a warranty repair on our furnace and now our electrical panel.
Additionally, on our most recent service call, we had to schedule several weeks in advance, then the tech was 2 hours late.

Very poor service...even with our gold plan.  Have used them the past few years, with increasingly bad service.  They were here in June because the outside unit was so noisy.  We asked.if we needed a new fan.  They said no...there were just some loose screws (probably because of their last serviceman).  The unit was not cooling today so we called another company.  Same day service.  Guess what..   we need a new fan, and the compressor was in upside down causing the fan to work inefficiently and burn out.  We will never use A. B. May again.

we are in the second year of a home warranty with AB May. as a courtesy, because my family used them for so many years, we were able to get our AC and Heater serviced this year along with a $50 credit to use. making monthly payments has been worthwhile, though I think I might look elsewhere for another service provider in the future.

we had several plumbing issues when we moved into our home that the previous homeowner probably should have taken care of. though we received a discount we probably would have found a better deal elsewhere.

there have been several occasions when I called (it's a $60 service fee regardless) and twice the issue has been pretty non-existent so I felt like I was just throwing money away. other times it has been worthwhile.

I think my issue comes with the fact that they specialize in so many different areas that the service can seem impersonal at times. that being said though, I haven't had any major issues with the work that has been done.

AB May technician came to fix the heating system. The guy stayed in our home doing nothing but taking up space in our hallway for SIX HOURS. Finally expressed my discomfort with his remaining in my home and he ordered the part and left.

When the part came in, the same technician came to replace it and almost refused to leave. He kept trying to make excuses to stay, offering services we didn't need, asking to stay until the thermostat read 70 degrees, then 73 degrees, then 75 degrees. When we said we would check with our landlord before agreeing to additional services and call if the services were needed, he argued with us and tried to make a case to stay for more time.

We talked to our landlord about this and he says he was told by the company that they tell their employees to stay in your home past the amount of time needed for service so that they can get their hours!

This technician was invited to do a job. He was not invited to disrupt our household for 6 hours doing nothing.

Called to clear clog in basement toilet,  they cleared clog after pulling toilet. Apparently they didn't put it back on properly as now I have water rushing from the base all over the bathroom and my common area. Called to alert of issue as not 2 weeks have passed, they sent a tech who didn't address issue but came ready to charge us more than what we paid to clear clog. customer service says no charge since work was done less than 30 days ago just for us to call back again and they say oh no charge to come back out. This is horrible and my floors are drenched.

Just wanted to report that I'm still alive; it is now 3.5yrs since AB May did a preventative maintenance check on our unit where they made me sign a waiver claiming the carbon monoxide levels might kill me if I didn't buy a new $9.5k unit...and, magically, the A/C wasn't as cold the following summer after they messed with it. I think at this point I can officially call BS, since our detectors have still never reported a reading over 0.0. Additionally, after hearing our AB May experience, another HVAC service company came out and recharged the unit; A/C has been working fine since, which unfortunately supports the idea AB May likely removed some refrigerant--dirty sales tactics.

We bought a furnace from AB May last year, and got onto their Bronze Service Plan.  The plan includes an annual HVAC inspection.  We recently had them complete that.  They identified a problem that required replacing on of the valves so that the variable gas flow would work.  The warrantee covered the part, and I only had to pay for the labor.
Only doing a lot of work.  Labor was over one thousand dollars discounted to $834 based on the Bronze plan.  That seems like a lot for a couple of hours of work.  It seems like a lot for a minimum 2 hour labor charge.
I talked with the Technician he went on about booked hours versus actual hours.  I called and got hold of their customer advocacy department.  I was told labor was not based on hours at all, but each activity had a set rate.
I've spent a career contracting for professional services - Engineers, architects, and accountants.  Never have I seen hourly prices so high.
Yes count me among those who will be looking for another vendor.

On plus side the actual employees I spoke too were pleasant and knowledgeable, but that doesn't make up for their pricing structure.

A GREAT EXPERIENCE...
I just had a tankless water heater and water softener installed in my 100 year old home and was very pleased with the end results.  I dealt with a number of people from AB May to get this project accomplished.  From Shelly and Alexus  in scheduling to Ben, Nick, Todd and Stuart who helped on the install of my tankless water heater and then a week later for my back ordered water softener.  I can't say that everything always goes perfect but what I can say is that everyone I dealt with was very professional and worked VERY hard to make things right .  THEY ALL PARTNERED WITH ME TO MAKE SURE THAT I WAS SATISFIED AND HAPPY WITH MY NEW EQUIPMENT.

GOING THE EXTRA MILE...
After the long day of my final install I mentioned that I had a stool acting up to my tech, who did not work on stools, and 20minutes later, at 5:30 on a Friday night, I had another plumber on my doorstep to fix my stool.
I feel the people I have worked with at AB May are well trained, very honest and caring.

We have used AB May for years and have been Bronze and Gold plan members. After being impressed for years, the customer service has deteriorated a lot over the past two years. Our recent interaction was so disappointing that I actually Googled to see if AB May had been sold to another company and was under new management. We have a leaking pipe in our basement and pay $60/month for peace of mind, 24-hour emergency service and priority service on all other requests. They can't have someone out to fix our leak for almost a week. Called another plumber, he'll be here in about an hour. Gold Plan cancelled. Won't use AB May ever again.

I'm not sure I can find the words to express my disappointment and frustration with AB May.  We are getting estimates for a new HVAC system.  I called several companies in the area to come by and give us estimates.  I called AB May on Friday and they put me in touch with one of the technicians.  He said he could come over and give and estimate but only if I was willing to commit to hiring them.  I told them I was getting estimates so I wouldn't be able to make a decision until I get all the numbers.  He then said he would come on Monday at 8 a.m. to look at our situation and run some numbers.

Monday morning rolls around, the tech arrives and promptly tells me he would only have time to look at our system and get me an estimate if I was willing to commit to using AB May right then.  I told him that I was getting estimates all morning and would make a decision in the afternoon.  He said he had another house to get to and wouldn't have time to work up the estimate until the afternoon.  I asked him, If you have another appointment already scheduled that you have to get to, how would you have time to look at my system now if I was going to hire you? If you DO have time to look at my system now if I was willing to hire you, why couldn't you still look at my system right now like we discussed?  He claimed he misunderstood what I needed and said, I don't get paid for the time I spend getting you an estimate.

I tried to reassure him that we were going to make a decision that day, so I didn't understand what difference it made if he got me the estimate now or later, it would still be two hours of his time.  Also, if he double booked his time, I didn't understand why I should be shortchanged in the process.  He then said, Who is 'WE and is there someone else I should be talking to about this project?

At this point, I was getting angry.  Even if AB May had the best prices and best service, I was no longer inclined to work with them.  The attitude I got from the service tech really put a bad taste in my mouth.  While a $7000=$10,000 project may be small potatoes to them (the tech mentioned that the project was small compared to $40,000 jobs), it is a big deal to me.

I am so disappointed with my brief experience.  I don't know what else to say.

I have been a gold warranty holder for years with AB May. The service standard has dropped to being poor. This summer I had to wait months to get an appointment for AC to my children's area of sleep and it was over 85 degrees upstairs. I thought it was a one time problem and tried to ignore as they normally are good. Their delay of maintenance caused other issues. There was no concern that their delay was causing problems and more issues to repair. I pay premium prices but get put on a lengthy waiting list of months.

Today I texted, called and waited with a spraying leak inside and could not be given any idea about service times or protocol. Next week is what they wanted for me!! No clue when to expect help or if it will solve issues. Because of the delay this summer, other problems occurred due to the delay and I'm obviously concerned that the lack of attention will cause more damage in my house today. They take their draw every month but there is no longer customer preference or help if you own a warranty. So disappointing!!

I've tried customer support and got a ten minute hold if that tells you anything. Could be that they are so busy that they don't care about customer satisfaction. They've added classical piano music to the hold time so they are investing in music not more technical support.

I was once a good customer of this company and have spent thousands of dollars with them but will not use them again. Several years ago I had them go to a rental house we own to do a check of the air conditioner unit before the summer season. I was advised at that time that it had too much coolant and some was removed. Several weeks later, the unit was not working properly and making noise so I called AB May out again to look at it. The tech said it was low on coolant and added it at a high cost (I might add). I have called the company many times and was always told they would look into it and get back to me. They have never done anything but give me the run around. No satisfaction at all. I would not use this company again for anything ever.

We bought a house that the seller had purchased the AB May Home Warranty for the buyer.
We have a leak from the up upstairs bathroom shower and have a BIG wet spot on the kitchen ceiling from it.
We called and a guy came out and told us it would be $75.00, which we were told about before hand and they would go ahead and fix the problem.  Well that's not what happened.
All he did was run the water and checked a few things on the tub (not even the shower, which leaks when you switch it to the shower). He told us he would have to come back and it would be another $75.00 plus the cost  for cutting into the ceiling and for cost of parts like a new shower head and if we wanted it to match the rest of the faucets it would be more, we don't even need a shower head! It's leaking in the wall down to the ceiling not leaking out of the shower head.
So the cost went from $75.00 to any where from $300-$450 or more! We didn't do the repair with AB May.
What a rip off, sellers beware when your realtor asks if you want to provide the buyer with a home warranty and waste $389.00.  Waste of money!

I am writing this after many failed  attempts to get AB May to come out for our contracted maintenance. We have been loyal customers who renewed a home warranty with AB May, however I can't help but feel we have been put on the back burner to accommodate their lack of staff. I made an appt over a month ago, they have canceled do to an over load of calls ( which I can certainly understand in this hot weather) however pushing me out for 2 more months, really!!!!!
Do not make me responsible for your scheduling problems. I now know not to use you in the future.

They completely dropped the ball. I called on a Friday afternoon and was told someone would be out on Monday and I would get a call when they were close.
No call, nothing. STRIKE 1.  I call Tuesday Morning, they did get me in the system this time and and they got me a technician out to my house. And  we did go over the 3 projects I needed. Next I was told by the tech they would send an email with the estimate. Waited remainder of week. nothing. STEERIKE 2.  After calling and asking for the quote I was promised, I find the qoute is all lumped together and not broken down like I asked for. STRIKE 3.
If I can't get the simple stuff like I ask for, most likely they won't do the job like I ask for either.  I can't think of any reason to call them back for anything, heating, plumbing or electrical........

Purchased a high efficiency heater and air conditioner from them in August of 2011 for about $9k.  I had received 4 quotes and felt the price was reasonable relative to what I purchased.  Was fairly satisfied at the time (mainly because my previous unit had been so horrible - anything would have left me thrilled).  Today, my heater stopped working.  I figured it was so close to when I got it installed, I would call them to fix it.  I was promptly told that my year warranty had expired 5 months ago and that it would cost $89 for a technician to look at it.  I can understand charging me something, but full rate?  I told her I was glad to hear that they stood by their product and workmanship.  What a massive disappointment.  I guess they figure once they make the money off the equipment, you are no longer a customer worth working for.  I guess in the end I will get some satisfaction as I have another unit I see needing replaced in the next few years.  I think I might call them to get a quote just so I can say no.

Update:  After I spoke with AB May yesterday and was told a service call would cost $89, I scheduled another appointment with a different service company.  Whether it was my 1 star review of service or my disappointing conversation with the scheduler, AB May ended up calling me back about a half hour later.  The service manager let me know he was going to send out someone free of charge to figure out what was wrong.  A service person came out later that night and again today.  A part was replaced and true to their word, no charge.  I have replaced my 1 star with a 4 star.  The only thing keeping them from a 5 star would be the nonchalant reaction of the scheduler in the first place that caused the initial reaction.  The only recommendation I could give to improve service would be to give the scheduler the authority to escalate customer concerns instead of just saying no, that will be $89 since your warranty is up.

We received a home warranty through AB May when we purchased our house. Go figure a few days after purchasing our home the furnace stops working. AB May had a technician out with in an hour of me calling them. Even though it couldn't be fixed the same day (needed to order a part) the technician was very nice and informative. We found out that the gas line wasn't up to code but he told us that he would fix it for a discounted price when he replaced the fan. We also decided to upgrade our home warranty to their gold package so that moving forward any service we need from them will only be a $60 charge! Doesn't get much better than that! I highly recommend them!

Beware!  Asked them to repair a garbage disposal and an air conditioner.   Both the plumber and the A/C guy immediately began to sell much more costly repairs and parts, outside with Fear tactics.  Told my my entire plumbing under my sink needed to be replaced and that a much bigger and more expensive $5K repair was essential for my AC.  Both were simply not true.  Disposal works great without their recommendation and my AC has a new motor and is working great, WITHOUT their $5K repair.

Thanks GOD I was home as my wife would have caved into their horrible tactics.  They are trained to up-sell and go for bigger ticket repairs!

My ex-wife had some work done by A.B. May.  They charged her $278 to fix a leaking toilet!  I was appalled.  They don't work on hourly, but on per project pricing and this took them 15 minutes to complete. Those of us who realize how simple this fix is can see they gouged her.  The parts can be bought for $10 and it takes about 15 minutes.

Then she had an issue with her HVAC and for some reason she called them again.  They gave her a quote of $1,800 and she had the work done.  5 days later the fan started making massive amounts of noise and now they are telling her the entire unit needs to be replaced and that HVAC units only have a 12 year life expectancy.  This is a flat out lie.  I would never hire A.B. May to do any work.  They must work off commission and they definitely take advantage of people who may not understand how things work.

And to top it all off... she HAS A SERVICE PLAN!!!

Then, when I looked at the quote they emailed her, there were three options...

1) Replace the entire HVAC unit for $7,227 investment after an $1,800 credit for the work just performed

2) Replace just the heating unit for $3,927 after a $1,000 partial credit for the work just performed

3) Replace the fan motor that was making noise PLUS add a Nest thermostat for $1,029.  They JUST replaced the thermostat when they did the plumbing work.

So they never gave her an option to just FIX the unit.  And they left her with the impression that the entire unit was shot and had to be replaced!  She didn't think there was any other options.

These are predatory practices that I find offensive.  They prey on clients fears to make a fast buck on commission.  I am livid in how they treated her and sent a trustworthy tech over to look at it. I'll post again tomorrow after he goes over.

Letter to the owner of AB May.  Edited for length and updates

I am writing to you as a very frustrated AB May customer.  I am going to just tell my story and you can do with it want you believe is best

I put my condo in KC up for sale with Reese Nichols.  My agent suggested I purchase an AB May Home Warranty to add to my condo as an incentive, she told me what it covers, and sent me the information.  I thought it was best to go with her recommendation.

About 2 weeks ago I put in a service ticket for my AC Unit.  There was water leaking into the closet and the AC is right above it.  I called it in and a tech was scheduled.

Tech came and checked it out.  He started to go into everything with my renter which they told him that he really needed to talk to me about it since I was the owner.  He told them he would give me a call.  He never did.

A couple of days later, after not hearing from him, I called into AB May.  They told me that a supervisor was going to check it out and that HE would call me.  I never heard from him.

My agent had an open house and she said the faucet was leaky.  So I called in a plumbing ticket.  I asked again what about the AC and they said someone would call me.

A plumber was sent.  He said that he would have to return because he needs to move the water heater (a $200 charge) and fix the pipes.  He schedule another appointment.

Visit #2 - he moved the water heater and fixed an o-ring.  He then called and said he would need to return to brace the stems (or something like that).  While he was moving the water heater....all of the water came out on the floor.  The boyfriend of my renter was there and ...he tried to clean it all up himself before she returned.  She freaked when she saw the mess....

That night after he left, the AC went completely out.  I called the 24 hour service line.  This is where I am going to start referring to the sales material my agent sent. In the pamphlet is states - 24 emergency service.  It was 90 degrees at 9pm that night and the AC was out.  At this time I had no idea if the lack of service from the first AC call caused this, something that the plumber did when he was flicking the switches to turn off the AC or what.  I was told that there was nothing that could be done.  I referred to the 24 hour emergency service line in your material.  Unless its someone bed ridden its not an emergency.....I would change that in your printed material....extremely misleading.  AB has a 24 hour answering service....that is it.

I called at 7am CST and spoke to someone to get someone there to fix the AC.  They said someone would be there sometime that DAY.

I called again around noon.  Still no ETA on the arrival of a tech.  Once again Id like to refer to your printed material - 100's of certified techs.  Apprently you only had 1 working that day.  Please change that.

I called in around 3pm.  Spoke to the AC Manager.  At this point I am angry and frustrated and just done.  He first started to tell me what the original call was all about....that it was my problem because of how the AC was installed (I did not build the place nor install the AC), and that he had no idea when someone would be there because the one guy was busy on another call.  He was rude.  No empathy.

Vist #3 by the plumber - he removed the water heater, braced something with a 2x4 and finished the job.  When I spoke to him at this point it was 530pm EST.  Still no AC tech.  He called in and they told him someone was going by the shop and would be there within the hour.  He would call when he was on the way.  Never heard from him.  I then paid $570 to replace the handles and to move the water heater.  That was after the $500 credit for the call.

Around 730 est I called begging the customer service agent to find the guy.   At this point I had to pay $150 to put my renters in a hotel because it was over 90 degrees in the condo and they had been sitting there waiting for a tech to get there.

My renters returned the next morning.  The shower head and faucet was wiggling and about to come out.  In the 5 years I have lived there....and the 3 sets of renters I have had since moving to Georgia....I have never had this issue.  Once can only assume that the plumber did not complete the job and made those things worse.

Visit #4 My realtor met the plumber last night.  he said someone would be there tomorrow to reinstall everything because #1 did not do it correctly  They are going to return today and hopefully fix the plumbing....vist #5.

I just got off the phone with your Ops Manager.  He told me I was repeating myself, my plumbing was old, and that they would take care of it.  RUDE.

UPDATE:  visit #5  the tech refused to reinstall everything and left my shower head with a hole in the wall.  This was not there before.  He stomped out the house and left.

Speedy service, for which they earn 1 star.  Unfortunately the recommendation stops there.  Their estimates are not comparable to other quality places in the metro.  Was quoted $1700 for a new hot water heater and flue.  After persevering for a week without hot water and imposing on a very gracious neighbor, ended up dropping half that amount.  In my opinion, saving $700 was well worth the wait.

My refrigerator went out Tuesday night  and they were at my door the next morning by 7:30 AM! That is a total grand slam service in my book.
The repair was done quickly without any extra upscale attempts.  I could not ask  for any better service or experience.

Hayden with AB May was fast, courteous, and extremely professional! I would recommend AB May for their plumbing services, I couldn't believe how fast they got a technician out there considering it was in the afternoon when I called.

Valerie S HVAC Technician did a great job fixing our AC unit. Diagnosing the problem was difficult and time consuming and she figured out the tricky problem. She was courteous and professional.  The costs were covered by a home warranty for a home I just purchased. Great experience all around.

Tony and Brian were both friendly and did a great job installing our new AC & Furnace. The project was started on time. I had a conference call at 9am since I work from home, so I left the garage open and left a note for them to start the project. After my call I came down and checked in to see if they may need anything. I appreciated how both Tony and Brian took my conference call schedule in mind during the day. They explained what they were doing when I had questions and they both talked me through the final instal and Brian showed me how to use the new thermostat. I was very pleased with my entire experience this week from setting up an appointment, purchasing the unit and the install today; and the yearly maintenance will be easy since it is included in the warranty for the next 5 years. Thank you all for making this a good experience for a first time HVAC buyer.

This KC company has a warranty contract which they have added restrictions preventing or making it practically impossible for bi-annual cooling/ac unit service as promised. You may schedule only four months out of the year. I have not found this in my contract. But according to the company that is when they have techs available. This translates as if they don't have enough techs to service the warranty agreements that they offer. This may be the root of their scheduling issues. If they can't get someone out until July 2019, they know it is impossible to get another 6 month service in the year of 2019 (how is that bi-annual which is what I paid for).  For $795 in 2018 we also only received one service due to rain. Yes rain caused a cancellation and a no show for the reschedule. And in 2017, for one service, we were cancelled 3 times (due to their scheduling issues). Yes three. 1) last job ran over 2) oh...we forgot you have 2 units, that means we need to reschedule for four hours, 3) we can't do the outside unit due to rain. Darn rain! These practices are not acceptable, but seems to have been put in place to purposely deceive the client.

I have had the gold plan with AB May for over 10 years.  The quality of the service people has deteriorated significantly the past few years, while the pressure to upsell me on every visit has dramatically increased.

Let me provide a synopsis of the terrible service we've received just within the past year or so:

This summer, our kitchen faucet began leaking as well as the toilet began making noise.  Note that AB May installed that toilet several years ago after the first toilet they installed broke.  By the way, their service plan for $960 per year (plus $60 per visit) doesn't cover porcelain even when they sold and installed the toilet!  But they cut me a deal and knocked a hundred $$ or so off the cost of the new toilet.  Wow, thanks AB May for being so generous.

When the plumber arrived, he took apart the faucet to determine the cartridge required and reassembled it when he realized he did not have one on his truck.  He then proceeds to replace the siphon column assembly inside the toilet tank with a part he purchased at Home Depot.  After he left, the toilet would barely flush away urine, much less solid matter.

After about 2 weeks have passed, he returns to complete the faucet repair and he brings a new faucet because AB May lost the original part shipment (or so I was told by him).  All good so far, right?  Then he proceeds to install the faucet and reverses the hot and cold water lines.  (only discovered after he left our house when doing dishes that evening).  I told him about the toilet not working properly so he makes some kind of adjustment (and it starts making a gurgling sound after he leaves).  A new plumber is dispatched to fix the hot/cold water supply and fix the toilet again.  All these visits required me to sit at home on hot standby waiting for them to grace me with their incompetent employees.

When I complained to the customer service rep, her response was that I don't need to sit at home waiting because they call 1/2 hour before the repairman comes.  How does that help me if I'm in the middle of a movie with my grandchild? I asked.  Her canned response was that I don't have to sit at home because they call 1/2 hour prior to the service call.  I'm sorry, but I did not realize that stupidity was a contest and she was trying to win the competition.

Let's get to these last two weeks.  Previously, we purchased a new Honeywell humidifier after remodeling the house and installing over 4500 pounds of hardwood flooring on two levels of the home.  The installer placed the unit in the wrong location on the furnace and it could not regulate the proper humidity.  He came back to patch up the hole he left in the furnace with the original installation and mounts it in a different location on the furnace.  The first unit stopped working within a year and they wanted us to pay $60 to come fix it as it's common for humidifiers to stop working.  My wife told them that we're not going to pay for a defective unit to be repaired every year, so begrudgingly they installed a new one.

Fast forward to this fall when they came to check out our heating system to ensure everything was working.  The service man said everything worked fine including the humidifier.  When we had a cold snap hit the area, I realized the humidifier wasn't working.  It read 10% actual humidity while the gauge was set for 25% humidity.  Hmmmm.  If it was properly checked out and supposedly working, how did it magically quit working?  Once again, we get hit with a $60 service call to repair something that was fine a month or so earlier.  Once the service man arrives he confirms that the solenoid is plugged and recommends we get a water softener.  I pointed to a spot about 20 feet from the furnace to show him the water softener we purchased from AB May several years again.  Like magic, the upselling spiel ended.

The same week, the same toilet started making gurgling sounds again.  The plumber tells me that the stopper was worn and it should have been replaced instead of the syphon tube.  I asked why the first plumber did not catch that.  He had no answer, but I paid another $60 for a repair done incorrectly but not within their 30 day cutoff period.

Can anymore go wrong?  It sure can.   While the plumber was here, he recommended we replace the pressure regulator at no cost since he was already on a service call. Great, but there's more.  He replaced it without incident, but failed to notice one of the hot water tanks was leaking, yet he said he blew water out of the expansion tank and had to be right on top of the leak.  So out comes AB May today to replace the hot water tank.  I get informed that our hot gas exhaust piping is too close to a PVC sewage pipe.  After the plumber spends about 1/2 hr in my basement, he says the hot water tank installation crew needs to come out and oh, by the way, I'll owe them $412 for a different flue gas exhaust pipe.  Did I mention that I blew another afternoon waiting for AB May?

Just really disappointed in the response I got from these guys.  Flooding in the basement on a Sunday afternoon so I call my home warranty only to be told that they could have a plumber out on Tuesday.  Really!!  I had to call another plumber who came out that evening and took care of the problem.  Apparently the home warranty isn't work the paper it's written on.  Guess who will not be renewing their home warranty with AB May?

The night A.B. May stole Christmas from my kids!!!!!

We purchased a home warranty through AB May when we bought our new home in Aug. 2016. This past Thursday, December 8, 2016 our range/oven quit working. We paid our contracted fee of $75 for a service call to fix our range/oven. The technician assessed our oven/range has a critical error in the control board making our oven inoperable, but the stovetop burners still worked. AB May's solution is to either rebuild the control board or give us $185 credit towards a new range. To rebuild the control board, it will take 2 weeks and we would not be able to use our oven or burners during that time -  meaning we would not be able to cook any meals.  We were advised we could expedite the rebuild at our own cost of $100 (which is insulting) and that could, but won't guarantee, it will be fixed any earlier than the 2 weeks.  They will not give us a loaner oven and will not replace the oven. To make matters worse, it is 2 weeks before Christmas, so our kids will not get any Christmas cookies and our Christmas meal in our new home with our family is now cancelled.

Even though in their Terms of Agreement, Section 7 under limitations of coverage states they will offer cash or credit in lieu of repairs when parts are unavailable through standard purchasing channels, they are still unwilling to abide by this section and replace our range. Since parts are unavailable they should offer a reasonable cash offer.

I would advise anyone purchasing a home warranty through A.B. May to do their research and shop around!!!!

Absolutely not worth your time or money if considering the home warranty.

Nothing worthwhile is covered by the Gold home warranty. There are exclusions for anything that is non-trivial. The main benefit is that your service calls are reduced from $89 to $60 (which is any time anyone comes to your house even if no work is done, no free estimates).

Any request for a repair is met with multiple high pressure upsells.

Any quote is typically 20% higher than comparable local alternatives and sometimes higher than that.

The quality of work is good and in-line with what I expect, but every other aspect of this company is subpar in my opinion.

Had our plumbing inspected by Joe S. He was awesome!  Not only was he very personable and knowledgeable, but our visit was very educational!  I always like to tag along during inspections so I can learn more about how things work in my home and Joe encourages that as well.  I learned more during this inspection than any inspection I've ever had before!  Good job Joe!

We called with water in basement they promptly called with a tech and came over on a Sunday evening. We were charged $60 per our agreement but the tech was unable to open the line.  He mentioned somebody would be out the next time to run a camera thru the line.  I waited and waited and then called back and they promptly came out and we were told there was a breakage and they had to dig up the backyard and it would be $3K  each spot and so on.  With no increase in our water bill we asked them again to snake the line.  Day 3 with a clog they snaked the line at another cost of $60 and the machine got stuck so the tech cut it off and left it in there.  No water a 3rd night with a snake in my line we decided we had it and called around and found a company that would be able to properly snake the line but we had to wait another day for them to return with their super employee to  remove the snake. Living in a house with a family of 3 children and not being able to use the water was not ideal.  Come to find out techs get a commission if they can upsell the homeowners on unnecessary services.  The techs didn't clean up their work mess unless i pointed it out.  Also,  explaining my issue with them i have receive no call backs.   Buyers beware.  Thankfully we have google now  so do your homework and check with other companies and plumbers.  We found another plumber to take care of our issue within 20mins.

Beware!!!   Nice on the phone and accurate scheduling.
We had a Bronze service agreement and scheduled our A/C to be checked out.  It had been operating normally without any issues.  Tech arrives and bad mouths previous AB May tech who serviced our furnace the past fall....tech bad mouths company who originally installed the system....tech inspects the systems and says our compressor is bad....a few mintues later he says no the compressor is ok but both thermostats are bad.  wanders in and out several more times and speaks to my wife like she is an HVAC technician herself and as though she should know about such things.  Tech then says the thermostat upstairs works but the downstairs thermostat needs to be replaced.  My wife calls me at work confused and frustrated.  i speak with the tech who confirms my thermostat is broken.  i said that the thermostat was working fine this morning and he says he reset it it to factory specs and it won't go below 82 degrees.  I repeate that it was working fine this mronign and seemingly fine until he arrived.  he said...nope its broke.  i asked him how much to replace...his answer...$383.  I left work and went home to look at the thermostat.   I looked at the thermostat and the button was broken...he said he didn't do anything....after going back and forth a bit i asked him to leave.  The tech was unprofessional and incompetent and extremely frustating to have in our home.  I will never never never do business with AB May again.    That evening I purchased a new thermostat  fro $69.99 and installed it myself in 15 mnutes.

Just bought a home and have a home warranty through A.B. May. Kitchen faucet breaks, floods the kitchen the Thursday night before Christmas. Called for an appointment Thursday evening.  They offered no assistance that evening, and did not give me a time window for service the next day.  They said that someone would come over sometime Friday.  Someone did arrive Friday afternoon.  He did not provide his name.  The part needed to complete the repair was not available for a week. So, I opted to go to a store, purchase a new faucet, and and have them back to install before Christmas, which the plumber said would be fine. Called customer service back to schedule, and no availability for 4 days, the day after Christmas. Customer service had no options to offer. The home warranty clearly says they will provide 24-7 Priority Service. Called my own plumber, who graciously agreed to install my faucet Saturday morning so I can assemble Christmas without washing dishes in the bathroom sink.  I'm a business owner myself, and I am EXTREMELY disappointed with this experience with A.B. May, and I hope it will be my last.
