I've hired this team a few times over the years to handle some projects of various sizes. All residential.

I have no complaints at all. All of the work has been good, and I think their prices are fair.

We had a horrible experience with Horton. Not only were they incompetent to do the job right, they kept billing us even after we told them to stop the work because we hired someone else who is competent to finish the disaster they started. After another company finished the job, they came back onto the property WITHOUT our consent and took the photos with the work that's been done, and claiming it's their work! Trespassing and lying. A very dishonest business run by rude and incompetent workers. Stay away!!!

The people that are working behind the desk at this company are really freaking rude I had a family emergency and was trying to reach a sister that work there and some lady named Sandy is very rude and disrespectful she does not know the difference between an emergency and a personal call. Can you imagine her sending people out to do your plumbing. And I live out of state.

Horton sent Dave to my home today. He did a great job. There was no mess, he did not need to open any of the ceiling and it was 1/2 the price of that other plumbing company. Horton is hands down #1 for me and my family!

Please be aware of hiring this company. My outside water sprout seal broke loose this winter, and I needed a reseal, or new sprout to stop the leak.  The water leak was on the outside, not inside. I shutoff the water the day before he he came. He immediately took the water sprout off. He verified that I had no leaves inside. He went out to his truck and got on his phone came back and asked me to turn on the water.. I turned on the water and he came back in the house again to say, look like I need to do a little  more work. He told me he would have to replace a short  pipeline because of the leak. I asked him, where is the leak he needed to replace? I had him show me. There were no leaks/water anywhere but, he said (the expert) I needed that pipe replaced. So, I notice during his work there were prolonged periods of silence (what is he doing that I don't hear him working?)  He told me he had to crave a piece of wood to fit under the sprout on the outside to anchor against the outside wall. I told him that I didn't like that because of water/snow/rain over time will not last. He said, well I will go to Home Depot to get something better.  He came back with a pretreatment piece of wood and said this you can paint. So not professional looking.  Three hours later he showed me his work and told me he put in a new shut-off valve (which he didn't get my approval to put in a new shutoff valve) and explained how to turn off and on for the water supply to the outside. I was left with a huge hole in my wall because they don't  do drywall . So, I have to replace my installation and drywall.  After 3 hours which should had been an hour, I was told they work per hour and my cost was $500+. He was nervous telling me. Why? Being unrighteousness.
My advice is don't panic like I did ladies, and randomly call any business for services.  For water issues learn where and how to shutoff water valves in your home are and never seal that area. Some not so gifted homeowners will do that.
Be aware that these companies are greedy more so than ever and will take advantage of your calamities.  I wish there were more laws in place to advocate for consumer services.. However,  Karma is real and life must go on. We learn everyday from greedy predators. I will definitely do more research in the future.

Hot water heater broke in the middle of the night which was a total bummer!  But Sam at Hortons was able to get someone out that day in the morning to replace it.  They did a great job and we are very happy with it!

What kind of installation is this? Cheech & Chong? Gaslighting when I sent photos and complained. This after thousands of dollars worth of work. They don't value their customers.

I had a gas leak and they came out the next day which I was happy with.  They air pressure checked for the leak as Gas company locked it off.  They couldn't find the leak as there was an area they could not get at.   The tech said they might have to cut a hole to get at it.  He called the owner who came out and said we needed all our black pipe replaced $2700 - 3000.  We call someone else who cut the hole and fixed the leak and saved us a lot of money.   Beware

The main drain cleaning the guy did was fine.  BUT the attitude and how he treats others needs much improvement.  Also the company knows of my health issue and ignored it.  Needed 3 filters under my sink changed which the company said they would do.  Guess this old crank was running behind since he did not want to touch it.  Since i was told they would do it an this idiot was not going to I called the company.  The girl said she would talk to manager an call me right back.. LIED... Not call back.  Guess she called this nut job here instead.  So he came up with he would do it only if I signed a paper stating he was not responsible fro any leaks.  NOW THIS IS A PLUMBING BUSINESS????????   They cannot do a job without leaks?  I finally told them I was not signing anything.... This company USE TO BE GOOD but now is not with SH.....  HONEST

The experience I had with Horton Plumbing was awful. They installed my water heater with the previous owner. I saw their name on the tag and figured I would call them because maybe they knew how to work on the broken part. When the rep came out he immediately tried to sell me a new water heater without looking at the old one. He then started asking my advice on what was wrong with the part, and he's the plumber! He called his tech and was complaining about me, to the tech, about how cheap I was that I wouldn't agree to a new water heater before he even looked at it! I wouldn't recommend their service or how they treat their customers to anyone.

Two days in a row Horton's Plumbing saved our lives! Once for a sump pump issue and once to replace an 18 year old water heater. Both times the person taking our concern and Nick the service rep were wonderful to work with. A special thank you for being able to get out a water heater at 4:39 on a Friday! Very professional, able to get me in the day of the calls and service with a genuine smile! This first time customer is a customer for life!

Thank you so very much!

My significant other and I ended up needing to have the pipes snaked again not even two days later. This time we used Cumming Plumbing and they did an amazing job. During the process, we discovered that the work Horton had done when we first moved in was really weird--there were new pipes going uphill (a big no-no in plumbing), two air admittance valves when there should have only been one, and when we later had the line scoped we found that Horton had somehow managed to leave the head of their drain snake in our pipes! We're 100% sure it was theirs because we had the line cameraed before Horton snaked it and I was there when Cumming found Horton's snake head, so I know it wasn't Cumming's.

After consulting a number of professionals, we came to the conclusion that we had to redo nearly all of the work Horton had done on our house because most of it had been improperly installed. We had the work done be another plumbing company, of course, and they did an amazing job. During that work, however, we discovered that Horton's plumbers hadn't even sealed many of the PVC pipes they had installed for us and some weren't even fully attached to each other, which explains why they looked like a waterfall each time we had a backup (Horton's plumbers had assured us this was normal, of course).

Another big difference between our two snaking experiences was that Horton's guy had absolutely covered our floor and wall with sewage and then tracked it up and down our basement stairs so it was everywhere. He used our bleach and paper towels to help us clean it up afterwards, but it was a disgusting experience. I hadn't mentioned this in my previous review since Horton's plumber said that making that much mess was a normal part of snaking and we didn't know better since that was the first time either my significant other or I had ever needed a sewer snaked. Cumming, on the other hand, didn't leave a drop of mess anywhere even though they snaked from the same spot.

Cumming also said their prices, after hours and otherwise, up front before anything else. They've been nothing but pleasant and I doubt any of them would give me an angry call in the morning about how wrong I was if I had voiced a concern.

I'm going to have to retract all the positive things I said about Horton in my last review--they may be prompt, but they do terrible work, their customer service is horrid, and they're much more expensive than other plumbers who do the work properly.

Do not use this company if you want legal, approved work done.  Hired them to reroute waterlines for a bathroom project.  Told them 3 times that this was permit necessary job since all work was being inspected by Ypsilanti township, before they started, while they were working and when they finished.  Was charged $1050, which was very high for work I could have done in 4 hours and $100 in fittings (but needed licensed plumber and permit).  Was told I had to contact office to get permit pulled
Office acted like they never heard of pulling permits and said they could work off my building permit - not true or legal.  Took 2 days for them to pull permit so I could get inspection .  They then wanted $75 more for permit, to which I responded that the $1050 was for LEGAL plumbing work which required a permit.  They then sent a bill to homeowner for $100 for permit....real questionable ethics from a legitimate contractor.  Avoid at all costs!

Moved to Dearborn area just over six months ago and knew before buying a home that the basement had some sort of water episode that soaked into the carpeted area of the finished side of the basement. I asked the homeowner to have the drain snaked to be sure it was only roots. (There are several massive Oak trees on the lot!) He called Horton Plumbing. Horton came out and snaked the front drain to the road and ran the camera for me (well for the seller, i was the buyer requesting this from the seller). I called Horton afterwards to get a more clear understanding of what, if anything, did they pull out of the drain, as i was the concerned buyer of the house they just snaked. I guessed he was busy or I caught him on a bad day or something cuz the guy was a prick. He was thoroughly annoyed with me for wanting to know if they pulled out roots cuz 'his report on the receipt told me that the line was all fine so what more did i want!?'  He did not want to understand that as a potential buyer, i needed to know not only that the pipeline was fine, but also if it had been full of roots cuz if it was NOT, that meant that there was yet another water issue with the basement! Well he said since i wasn't the one who requested the job, i could contact the seller and ask him for further details. Bro, buyers don't have the contact info for the sellers, they are only in contact via their agents and the seller's agent felt they had done their part by having the drain snaked and showing that the waterline was good.

So i bought the house anyway, and six months later the basement floods not from the drain they snaked, but from the drain in the rear of the house where they did NOT snake. Why didn't they snake all drains? Is there something i don't know about plumbing or home ownership? Is it normal to be called to house with a back up / sewer issue and not snake all drains to make sure they are ALL clear and not just one drain? I mean, it wasn't flooded at the time of the snaking, so its not like they could know if they remedied anything!

I wasn't living there, i didn't direct the plumber where to snake, but damn it if a plumber shouldn't be snaking all the drains that could be the issue when they come out to a house!! So now i have to deal with a flooded basement, and moving all my stuff from the floor, and ripping out the ruined carpet/padding and cutting out portions of the wall cuz Horton took the road with least resistance.

I have a basement floor drain that has noises coming from it.  Horton plumbing came out charged me over $200 service call and gave me a quote to replace a broken trap on my floor drain.  The boss with years of experience came and gave a quote for $2400.  He claims he could smell the radian gas in my basement.  That's odd because radian is odorless.  I decided to get a 2nd quote for this considering the price and I just didn't trust this guys response.  Another plumber came out and told me there is NO trap on the line.  Installing a trap would not solve my issue.  Instead this 2nd opinion told me the truth, I need my radian pump serviced.  The radian pump is over sucking and that's what's making the noise I hear.  Furthermore he also agreed there is no gas smell, radian is odorless plus the pump is over sucking, so how would you have gas inside?
I do not recommend Horton for anything! They just try to sell you things that's it.

They came by and helped install new plumbing a month ago. Earlier, this evening, our toilet backed up and started coming out of our bathtub.
We were able to contact them right away, and we got someone down here in ten minutes, which was good.
The biggest problem is that we did not have any warning about how much it'd cost just to check it out.
So, if we had waited till tomorrow, we could've saved 100 dollars, and we would've been fine with waiting, I just wish they would've let us know it'd cost so much just to check it out.

Good news is, they fixed it quickly and the guy working was nice and apologized for the lack of communication beforehand. I'll try out other places next time, but this place did get the job done.

Pros:
Quick, efficient, explain whats going on afterward, polite, decent. (They wore little plastic things on their shoes, yay!)
Cons:
Lack of prior communication, much more pricy at night. (If you do use them, do it during the day.)

EDIT: They called us this morning and the lady said we should've known about the pricing. Minus a star because she was snappy at 10am in the morning.

I had a drain that kept backing up and several companies agree that I needed the sewer drain replaced. I went with Horton's because they were quick to respond and, although they never actually scheduled a time which caused issues, they completed the work quickly. The work itself was done well and I have no complaints, but I do take issue with their excavation company they use as well as how they tried to resolve (or lack there of) a problem that arose.
My sewer line is directly next to my gas line, something I made a point of bringing up to them, which I was assured they'd take every precaution to avoid it including calling miss dig. The day after the work was completed, my girlfriend and I smelled gas in the front yard and had Consumer's Energy come out. They found a leak (luckily only on the outside of the house) and took care of it immediately. The head of the crew said, it was an obvious nick in the line; something that they should have spotted and called us about.
I called and spoke with Jeff at Horton's, he apologized, said he would get to the bottom of it and get back to me. What I got was a phone call from the excavation company already on the defensive claiming it was the settling dirt. When I said that settling dirt doesn't lead to the phrase obvious nick, he then switched gears and passed blame onto Consumer's for not flagging it properly. For anyone that hasn't worked with miss dig, they flag all of the lines and if they miss something, you can call and they address it right away. He said he was going to send a crew out to talk to Consumer's and get back to me.
Bottom line, I have gotten no resolution or response from either company except for a yard that is far more torn up than it should have been, a company that still dug without the gas line actually being marked, and the bill that arrived the day before it was due. While Horton's may do good work, their customer service is subpar and if you need excavation done, go with a different business.

We have lived in Plymouth for 30 yrs and we've hired Horton over the years many times.  They are easy to schedule, great with staying in touch to let you know they're on the way and have never failed to show up in the committed window of time. The plumbers are all professional,  honest, curteous and respectful.....and do great work!  I'm very pleased with them and would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone.

I was really disappointed. I purposely scheduled the first appointment at 8 o'clock. They didn't show up until almost 9 (said he was lost) and they tried calling me but the number was disconnected. That was because they had wrote down my phone number incorrectly. He was finished by 10:40 and charged me for three hours. He said that included all the travel time (It's 15 minutes to my house tops). He needed paper towels to wipe the drain clean, didn't explain why the finish of tub around new drain is ruined on half of it, left the floor a mess. Maybe all plumbers are  the same, but I'll take my chances and try somebody new the next time.

I recently used Horton to clean out a root clogged sewer line in my house.  They were responsive and came in the time frame that they said they would and completed the work.

I would agree with the person that said something about the written quote. The reason for the 3 star review is because they quoted me 160 dollars for the root clean out on the phone however when the tech arrived he cleaned the roots out and then tried to charge me 385 dollars for the work.  He said it was because he had to clean out the storm drain too.  I would have been happy to pay for extra service if we had discussed it before hand.  I was in the house so we could have discussed.

In the end the tech did give me 100 dollars off, but I would be carful if I used them again.

Callers beware! We had hortons come to our hair salon to check on our bathroom hot water tank. We wanted to use a local plumbing company to develop a relationship with for future service. #1 they charge $105 to walk in your door #2 $155 an hr for labor and an up charge on materials. The tech was nice but kept repeating he was on the clock for labor charge. So instead of investigating other avenues to hook up a new source for water, we went with his recommendation. I could of bought the tank for 1/2 of what the charged us. And $500 charges in labor. And left with a hefty bill. Yes service companies do charge, but I called around after and there are a lot more reasonable companies out there. Do your research. I won't be calling Horton's again.

Terrible. Charged to snake our drain twice because the first time they couldn't get it done. Drain immediately backed up after they said they had snaked the entire drain. Then was told $5000 repair of my sewer line was the only option. Called Mr. Rooter for a second opinion. They took the time to explain the issused a water jet to clear our system and then gave us a one year warranty for less then $700

I had Horton do a number of jobs --with no problem...then came the leaky fill valve on the blue toilet. Yeah it is vintage, 1970s , but it has always worked, and only needed new parts inside tank. I hired a crew to do cleaning-- they tightened the valve so they could shut off water to toilet-- to clean tank (over-zealous). They broke the faucet handle on the valve.

Called Horton, to have a sink faucet installed in kitchen, and to fix the now decommissioned toilet...the young guy who replaced faucet- excellent. no mess, no problem--new faucet.

The  shady -looking guy working alone in the distant bathroom, destroyed every SEAL on the toilet--where there were NO leaks- now toilet was leaking at tank base where it fits into toilet, it was leaking from new flapper in tank, and it was leaking (big time) from the original problem. the wall shut-off.

He comes out, hands me a bill... the faucet install was $369 (approx), and he wanted several hundred dollars for fixing  toilet -- which was now needing seals which they did not have on truck, nor did they have in shop, which would have to be ordered. He had done NO FIX  of toilet-- and this was not a bill for the NEXT visit ,if he is able to EVEN GET a seal for the tank.  He wanted to sell me new toilet, which would then not match blue shower.

I paid for the faucet  install  (IN FULL). Bad plumber said he'd call when the seal came in... he never called.  Horton is billing me... for their plumber wrecking  a working toilet. My daughter's BF is fixing the toilet.

I haven't paid them...I hate having to fight w/ office staff... this is not the first plumber to break stuff, on purpose,  to make a more lucrative job. I am a senior, disabled person living on budget...crooks don't care, they will steal from anyone. Horton should not hire guys like this one.

Way overpriced. This company tries very hard to over charge, & underperform. They use scare tactics to convince you to dig up your entire yard to replace sewer lines which do not need to be replaced. They also double bill, meaning charge you for 2 man hours when only 1 man is on your site. Work is shoddy.

If you want to use their services, make sure you ask them to give you a written quote. There is a very nice older lady who answers the phone and is very knowledgeable, but if you don't get her, good luck. The rest of the girls are not very professional. The technician who came in to do the service did an ok job except for he left one part of my shower head loose. I asked them to install a new shower head/faucet set and a new toilet, neither the girl on the phone nor the technician gave me a quote to install the toilet. When the technician handed me the bill, it was $615! $400 to install the shower head/faucet, $215 to install a toilet! I called the manager Linda to discuss it. After three days of trying, I finally got a hold of her. She said that was their standard price. I said that's not the point. They should have told me how much it was. It was $215, not $50. I could have Lowe's did it for half of the price. She said she would talk to the technician and call me back by the end of the day. Two days have passed, she hasn't called. I hate to put a neighborhood business on my black list, but I'm not impressed with more than one thing at this place. Don't have any warm fuzzy feelings to go back.

Very disappointed in this company.  Came out several times to fix my bar sink pump.  Same younger guy the first 4-5 times, with a service charge each time.  Last time, they sent a senior person out who looked at his coworker's efforts and said I don't like the look of that.  He ended up using the original pump and some new plastic fittings to correct the 4 previous jobs by his coworker.  It could have all been taken care of on one service call, but I had to rearrange my work schedule and pay for several service calls.  Most expensive plumbing related job I have ever had.

I found out a week after a water leak was fixed by Horton plumbing that they never properly reattached the line to the pressure relief valve.  It took 3 1/2 hours to replace a piece of pipe and then they didn't even make sure everything was properly reassembled. When I called the company it still took them five hours to arrive. The plumber Andrew and his manager Sam showed up at my house and acted like it was no big deal. Sam was very condescending. I had asked them not to let Andrew come back out here but they ignored my request. The worst part is I would never have even known anything was wrong if a friend had'nt pointed it out. This could have been catastrophic. $582 for an unsafe job.  Don't trust this company with your safety.  I wish I hadn't!!!

Exorbitantly overcharged (double in fact) for a very basic snaking job. We are located in an older area of Plymouth and we always need the 6 blade for snaking the old clay pipes. The guys snaked with a 3 blade.  We then had the pipes camera'd (that price was standard and what we expected) but after seeing all the roots that were still in the pipes we had to request they finish the job.  We were told it would cost more but we were not told we would be charged an additional full visit.  So the first snaking was $160, camera $250 - so far so good but they charged another $200 to attach the 6 expandable blade and run it again- so another $200 to finish the job they were hired to do!! $610 in all.  I did email and call after paying the bill but I have never heard back.  We are not being unreasonable and we fully expected to pay about $500 that day but $610 was taking advantage of us.  Still hoping to hear.....

I called because my toilet was leaking. He did not bring in a single new part. He spent an hour trying to fix with the old parts.  He charged me $95.  I shut off the water to see if it was fixed and within 2 minutes I could see nothing had changed.  When I called him back he said he had to special order parts. Really? They charged me $95 for nothing.

I, as previous would be cautious.  Wish I had read reviews prior to contracting for bath remodels and new toilet(s) installation.  All workers were professional and courteous however there were several areas where the work needed to be redone i.e. connection not right under kitchen sink, powder room toilet not level.  The biggest caution is to do your homework on countertop recommendation from them.  We had marbelite shiny finish and liked them (for 16 years).  We decided to go with the matte finish based on the salesman's recommendation (easier to clean/shows less scratches, etc.)  BOY WAS HE WRONG - worst counter tops ever!!  (Again just a word of caution on this as we should have researched better.)  Some final concerns - the button up work is slow/fixtures and tile gaps.  Also, caution - they do let apprentices do work which is of major concern and where the above toilet and kitchen sink needed to be redone.  I do not feel comfortable about an apprentice installing when I am paying for a master plumber.  Synopsis:  do your homework and don't pay the balance until job is done to your satisfaction . . . OR YOU ARE COMPLETELY fed up with the cosmetic fixes they try to do to cover up the flaws.
