The pumber installed our new kitchen sink disposal. He was very friendly and told us exactly what he was doing. He even lined up the name of the disposal in the sink so it was facing you as you're standing at the sink. In my previous home and in this one they've always been at odd angles. That's a nice professional touch I wasn't expecting. Thanks for the pleasant experience.

Our kitchen sink was backed up and we first made contact with this company three weeks ago. I spoke with the scheduler, who is a delightful ray of sunshine. TL;DR she refused to reschedule us for service after an unfortunate missed appointment. Yesterday I called a different plumber and this morning they came out and fixed my sink, which was necessary due to the hack job DJ Murray did two years ago. So, save yourself the time and exasperation. Find a licensed company who appreciates customers and doesn't believe in sarcasm and ineptitude as acceptable business practice.

I live in an older house where I frequently get tree roots growing into my sewer.  DJ Murray is my go to when I need to have the sewer snaked to clear these roots.  They are reliable and do honest work.  I recommend them for any sewer work you might need!

We've used DJ Murray over the years & they've always been there. We are seniors & I just had back surgery. Plus it's the middle of winter. Our sewer is backing up in the basement & we can't flush out toilets. Now I don't know what's happened to this company but we called them on Thursday, they said they'd be here the next day. Friday they called, said they couldn't make it until Monday. They called on Monday, said they couldn't come. Very unprofessional. I wouldn't recommend or ever call them again.

Very rude and disrespectful.
They gave 2 different verbal estimates one to my wife of 400 and to me on the phone a couple of hundred.
They never finished the job and they stormed out when we tried to discuss with them.
Not recommended.

All I can say is RUN AWAY from this company.  I've used this company in the past for multiple rental houses and apartments in Royal Oak over the years and the service used to be decent.  I am not sure what happened but the service is now deplorable.  I rarely use the word deplorable, so that's how bad they are.  I called Dan (the owner) at 7am on Monday morning.  I explained I had a sewer emergency and we were a family of six.  He said he'd do his best to get there in the afternoon, worst case, first thing Tuesday morning.  He didn't call or show up on Monday, no big deal, he said he'd try his best.  Tuesday comes around and by 9am, nothing.  I call the number and speak to a woman who says we have you scheduled between 2-4pm.  I explained that I personally spoke with Dan and that he understood the gravity of the situation and would make me a priority.  She said that's all he had available so I accepted it.  My wife took the afternoon off and guess who didn't show up?  DJ MURRAY failed to show up for a booked, confirmed and promised time slot.  I leave a nice but firm voicemail on their answering machine (did I just date myself by saying answering machine?) and demand a call back first thing in the am.  I figured I would beat them to the punch so at 7:01am I gave them another call only to get Dan again.  I said Dan, what is your major malfunction?  You know I am stranded, you no showed me twice, what gives?  Dan says he's sorry and he wants to make sure we get fixed up quick.  I am not sure if I was just overly tired or desperate at that point but I allowed myself to believe yet another line of his BS.  Fool me once.....you got me again Dan!  Well, he never showed up as expected and the cherry on top is that his company refuses to answer any of my calls.  They know the wrath that I was fixing to lay upon them.  Anyway, I ended up calling Nelson Brothers Plumbing who were professional, courteous and more importantly showed up when they said they would.  That same day!

Called at 7:30am due to a backed up sewer pipe. A very professional and nice lady took down my info and set an appointment between 10 and 12. Tony arrived just after ten. He thoroughly diagnosed the issue and was up front and honest about my options. He tried snaking and pulled an enormous root clog out. At that point he explained the next move: either keep trying to snake, which might not work, or go for the hydrojetting. We talked about it for awhile and he made some good points. I decided to go the cheaper short-term route to try the snake and then save up for the jetting in a few months. Luckily it worked.

I cannot be more pleased with the service. This is my third time in 6 years using these guys. Professional, prompt, thorough, knowledgeable and honest.

As for all the negative reviews? Seriously? Act like a decent human being and have reasonable expectations. I gambled on the snaking. If it didn't work, that's on me. They are not wizards with some magical powers. I also didn't call last night when I noticed it, as there was no need for after hours charges when all I have to do is not use the water til morning. Don't believe the hype. Call them.

Let me tell you what this guy did to me. I had frozen, busted pipes in my crawl space. Dan Murray came out with his assistant and sent the assistant into the crawl space to survey the work and take photos. Murray told me that he sees possible asbestos in the crawl space and I'll need to have that cleaned out before he'll do the work. I tell him that I've lived here for 15 years and dozens of professionals have been in and out of this house and there's no way there's asbestos down there.

Murray tells me he will not do the work until it's tested and because it's polar vortex time, I don't have many options to get a different plumber out there fast ... and Murray knows that too. So, Murray tell me to call a specific environmental company to do the work. I do that. The environmental company comes out and laughs that there is no asbestos down there, but I pay to test it anyway because Murray won't do the job without it. So two days later, test results come back and there's no asbestos. I call Murray who says, GREAT! I will call you in the morning to let you know when we'll be out.

The next day, no call.

So, I call him. I finally get an evening call back from the assistant who says, we are finishing up a job and will call you after.

Again, no call.

The next day, same game. In the meantime, four days have passed and I now have 5 additional pipes burst including above ground. I ended up with a flooded kitchen and crawl space when the pipes thawed. Had to have the city come out and shut off all water to the house. The game this guy played with me cost me an additional $2,000 in repairs ON TOP of what needed to be fixed in the first place.

If I could give Dan Murray Plumbing less than one star, I would. They've earned it.

FABULOUS SERVICE from initial phone call to rapid response to wrapping up the job! I can't recommend DJ Murray Plumbing enough! Tia from the office was super friendly and helpful. Tony arrived within an hour of my call. After a brief discussion, he diagnosed and fixed the problem! Explained everything that he was doing and was very thorough in checking that there weren't issues other than the sewer blockage. He was wonderful! Friends provided me with the names of a few plumbing companies, but not all companies are capable of handling sewer issues. Highly recommend DJ Murray Plumbing!! And for my animal loving friends, please note that these folks are all pet guardians and love animals. They also provide some services for shelters pro bono! They had my business immediately! GREAT COMPANY!!

Unprofessional, rude and unapologetic.

Dan is always late and doesn't have basic sense to talk. When I made an initial call to him, I was greeted by him by saying that he doesn't have time to talk. He also told me that though online it does say that they work after 5, he doesn't like working after 5.

He didn't turn up the first day, reschedule for next day, turned late by an hour the next day. He was almost pulling in when I had to leave to pick my son up from Preschool. I of course didn't stop for him, because he is the one to not have respect for others' time.

He still called me back to yell and to ask me not call them again... yes of course dude... not calling you again.

I had my drain snaked at my unoccupied rental house 11/8/16,  the young man they sent out, Tony, had never seen my older system. He snaked it anyway and it appeared to be working. The charge was $185.00
After having tenants in the house a week, it started backing up again. When I called back on 12/12/16,  I was informed by a very very rude receptionist that since it's been a month and that there's no warranty on drain snaking, they could not help me except to send someone out again. Basically, I lost $185.00. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. She told me we can't please everyone.
I called another company in Ferndale that is coming out AND bringing a camera which is included in the price of their drain snaking services.

As a contractor myself,  it's important to communicate with clients.  It would be great if DJ Murray could grasp this.

Yesterday appt was no call, no show.  When I called them,  one hour after the appt window,  I was told they don't go on roofs in the rain.  I tell them they can scope the drain line from a step ladder.  They don't go on ladders in the rain.  While it may have been raining in Royal Oak,  it wasn't in Farmington Hills.  Fast forward to the rescheduled appt window today for 10-12. Called them to verify appt at 11:00. Yes,  they're on schedule.  12:30, no call,  no show.  Called again.  Returned call five minutes later with an ETA of 1:15.  Cancelled altogether.

Who do I bill for wasting four hours including drive time??

There are classes that explain what customer service and support mean.  I suggest this company invest in some.

This is my first ever review of anything.  This company has such poor service something needs to be done.   I have had my entire sewer replaced and I still have to have plumbers come out to cut roots in the section by the street.  I have been using DJ Murray without issue until now.

I had service done that I paid around $200 for in October.  We asked this person to do a through job.  They never came in the house.  They didn't check anything, they just serviced one of my 2 lawn cleanouts and drove off.  2 months later it was backing up again.  I called the company and the gentleman said it was my fault.  They eventually came out, fixed it and drove off.

TWO (2) WEEKS LATER, my drain is backing up.  I am pretty sure, every plumbing company in the world will say this is bs.  Roots don't grow that fast and its time to question the service.

I called this weekend to get return service and explained the issue.  I did not ask for free or a discount.  After several calls, they will not return my calls.

You will be best served by never calling these folks.  Poor service.  After this I will be doing my best to file a complaint with the city, BBB, and anyone that will listen.  My hope is anyone that took the time to read this will use one of several companies nearby that offers better service.

Happy Plumbing!

Horrible service.  Called them late one evening to schedule someone to look at a leaky drain pipe.  The guy who answered was rude.  He said he would call the next day between 9-11am.  Never called.

I called back and a lady answered and said she would call a technician and call me back with a time they could come out.  Nobody called me back at all.

Never will call them again.  Good luck DJ Murray.  You'll need it the way you treat customers.  Ridiculous.

These guys are a joke. Sent two plumbers at two different times to fix two sinks, a toilet and shower faucet. One gave me a quote and left. The other was a boy that obviously couldn't do a mans job who left saying that he would get back to me. Nothing, left me hanging. The woman who answers the phone told me they didn't want to do the job. DJ Murray is a joke and clearly not plumbers. Don't waste your time.

Horrible customer service.  Called about needing a serew drain snaked, they promised a time of 1.5 to 2.5 hours.  Called at 2 hours and said another 2-3 hours.  Fine.  Tony finally arrives, tries to snake it and gets nowhere.  Says he needs a different cutter and will have to come back first thing in the morning.  Still requires a check for him showing up.

Next day he does not show, I call the office and am put on the phone with Dan, Manager (Owner) and he tells me he will not have one of his crew do this, he will be our personally in 2-3 hours.  After 3 hours Tony calls to say they will not be coming out, to call someone else.  I did, and it was then cleared in under 5 minutes.

I filed a complaint with the BBB, and they jus sent me this response - BBB made several attempts to contact the business regarding your complaint and has received no response.  Your complaint will now be closed by BBB, indicating that the business did not respond.

Stay away from this company - I wish I had read these comments before I initially called them.

Unfortunately, I had to lower this review a star.

After the gas lines were run my roommate and I stayed in the house for the first night.  The thermostat was set at 70 but it never got above 50 and we froze all night long.  Fortunately, the next day I figured out that the gas was never turned back on to the furnace.  I turned the valve and it worked.  I thought this wasn't a big deal just a small oversight.

They also replaced the hoses and spigots for the washing machine.  My roommate did laundry the other day and he set the washer to cold but the clothes came out warm.  Using our deductive reasoning we discovered that the hoses were switches so the hot side went to the cold valve and vice versa.  Luckily the clothes weren't ruined or faded by the hot water.  Now, this was just careless since it's clearly marked which is hot and cold.

I just hope I don't find anything else they missed.

I had a disposal that I couldn't get to work I couldn't find a reset button
so I requested for them to just thro it out and put pipe plumbing only
no more disposal.

the plumber got down to check it out and found the reset button out of sight in the back, pushed the button and it started up.

I said ok I will keep it and nothing else was done just pushing the
reset button,

what iam complaining about is the charge of        $129.00

that's right $129.00 for 10 minutes just to push the button.
when I called to complain that no other plumber would charge  $129.00
I was told that's there chare $129.00 for to push the button, at the time they quoted $169.00 to replace the piping, it would have been cheaper, I think its highway robbery.   no refund of any kind was given.

Here is my experience with D J Murray Plumbing. I have had my Royal Oak home I currently live in for 19 months. I tend to do most work myself, and only call professionals when something is beyond my capabilities. My house has a house trap, and when I first bought the house it was clogged and needed to be cleaned out, I used Roto Rooter. This weekend, the main sewer line was again clogged and backing up through the basement floor drain. I attempted to clean out the sewer line myself with an equipment rental from Home Depot but was unsuccessful because I couldn't get the snake to make the turn at the trap.

I called DJ Murray at about noon and was told they'd be out in about an hour and a half. An hour and a half later, they called to say they'd be there at about 3. They arrived at 3:30. I informed him that I'd lost a bit from my rental in the pipe, and after  trying to grab it with his equipment he said I'd have to suck the water out with a shop vac, retrieve the bit myself before he could proceed, and to call and he'd come back.

I had done so after about 30 minutes, I called, he said he would come after the job he was on. 2 hours later (about 6:30 PM) I called, I was told I'd have to sign a waiver and if that was okay he'd be out in 30 to 40 minutes. He was finishing a job, they said, right around the corner from me. 2 hours later I called again. This time, they started telling me they weren't comfortable cleaning out the drain, they're afraid their equipment might get stuck, and they'd only proceed if I agreed to a $2600 installation of a proper cleanout outside the house.

At this point, I called Nelson plumbing (9:10) and reached their answering service. A plumber returned my call at 9:13. At 9:25 they arrived. They were done with my routine sewer line cleaning at 9:35.

So in summary, my experience has been that 8 hours has been wasted on an emergency service call I've made, and D J Murray demonstrated less competence than Roto Rooter, they tried to upsell me when all I needed was a 10 minute routine maintenance.

I ended up spending $250. D J Murray originally quoted $185-$225.

I called last week to schedule an appointment for a back flow test for my sprinkler system. When I was speaking to the woman on the phone, she was very rude when I asked if they were licensed (city permit requires licensed backflow tester). I went ahead and schedule an appointment for a week later. I was told someone would be there between 9 and 11 am. I took the morning off of work and waited for someone to come out. At 10 am, I called to confirm that someone was coming because I had not heard back. The woman answered, asked for my address, and said the technician was coming and she would have the technician call me right away. I never got a call back and no one ever showed up. I waited until 4 pm, and nothing. I wasted a day waiting around and they didn't even have the decency to reach out to me or show up. I would not recommend this company to anyone.

I don't know why these guys get all of the bad reviews.  I am giving them 5 stars based on my experience.

Royal Oak resident, drain to sewer line was clogged with roots.  They snaked it in the afternoon to get the pipe to drain, then came back that same evening with a camera and cleaned all of the remaining roots with a high pressure nozzle.  It was expensive, over a grand, but afterwards the pipe was spotless, they showed me the camera before and after.  Furthermore, they assured me that the pipe can be maintained with annual root treatments.  That was good news since the alternative of digging up the yard and replacing the pipe is very costly.

By the way, DJ Murray was my second choice, the first people I called on a Saturday at 7 pm.  Left a voicemail and their message assured me I would get a call back within the hour.  They NEVER called me.

Very dissatisfied with this service.  They were hired by the seller before I purchased the home, after having a sewer inspection costing me 125 dollars fail in their attempt (couldn't get thru, as the roots were too thick).  AFTER DJ Murray (technicians Tony and Steve) came back to clear the sewer line for 149 dollars, I had another camera run down the sewer line (150 dollars), and they STILL couldn't run the camera!  I had to hire ANOTHER snake company come and clear the line, at a cost of 350.00.  These people are TERRIBLE!!!  NEVER AGAIN!

When I noticed that my 15 year old hot water heater had sprung a leak, I called DJ Murray, since my previous experiences with the company were excellent. Dan Murray and his assistant arrived the same day, and proceeded to install a new water heater. The work was done efficiently and professionally. And, when more, though related, work needed to be done, it was done without extra charge. Everything was explained clearly; they were friendly, courteous, and respectful. They will always be my go-to plumbers.

The worst operating business in Royal Oak PERIOD. I'm not going to waste my time elaborating with an elongated story on the debacle/grief/money this joke of an establishment has caused me.  Bottom line is....two weeks later I still have the same leak and a hole in my ceiling that they cut. You can't make this stuff up. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.

I called these guys in to do some emergency work on some backed up pipes over the weekend: I noticed Roanne S.'s review being so wildly disparate from Ryan L.'s, and thought maybe they treated her differently for being a woman which, I wouldn't encourage, but I needed someone quick and nobody else seems to be rated very highly at all elsewhere.

Well, they came out Saturday, and were prompt and efficient, but they didn't clean up after themselves at all, leaving a huge mess to clean up later. I figured whatever, as long as the job got done, not a big deal.

By the end of the night, the problem resurfaced, they hadn't really done much of a job at all. So the following morning I called them back, and they sent a guy over at no extra charge to redo the job.

Dispatch told me he'd be at the site in an hour, but he arrived in 30. Normally that'd be great, but it's not a residence, and I had a bit of a commute to get there, so that was a problem. Turned out somebody was there and let the guy in, he was done and called to tell me he was leaving as I was pulling into the parking lot.

So, speed and efficiency again, I guess?

To this point things seem to be working ok, but I'm walking on eggshells with the plumbing there just in case anything else comes up. (Literally.)

Anyway, I guess the plumbing company was OK. I don't call for plumbing work a lot so I'm not wholly dissatisfied with the pricing, though I bet it could have been better. But they were quick, and quick about the job, for better or worse.

Maybe there are better plumbers out there, I hope I don't have to look for one anytime soon though.

Called in morning with a clog sink. Said they would be there at 10am. Called them back at 11am since they hadn't showed up or called. Told me it would be at least another hour. Called them back and the lady that answered rudely told me to never call them and that they were never going to come out to my clients house that day or ever again. I was shocked how rude they were. Worst customer service ever. I clean houses in royal oak and like to use the same company for all my clients. I will never ever use this company.

2 years ago, I was doing laundry in our basement when I noticed water gushing out of  the standpipe on the floor, flooding our basement on the day we were hosting the wedding shower for our besties here in MI and the day before we were to fly home to CA for a visit with two house/dog sitters on tap who had already brought their stuff over.

Called DJ Murray because they were the only ones who had a real person answer on a Sunday morning at 8 am after calling all the plumbers with full page ads in the Yellow Pages (because the internet failed me back then).

Turns out the sewer pipe that connects to the municipal main collapsed (who knows when). Could not fix it that day because they needed to dig up the street, after getting permits from Ferndale... remember our wedding shower and our trip to CA.

DJ told us they would take care of everything while we were gone in CA (permits and everything)... but we did have to move the wedding shower, call off the house/dog sitters and board the dogs.

10 days and about $10K later, we came home to water than ran down the drains successfully, a less humid basement, and a huge patch in the asphalt outside our house.  Not a thing was missing in our house, they hosed down the backyard and about a month later they came back and sealed up the asphalt.

We have had two other blockages since then, in other parts of the pipes and these guys have been prompt , responsive and professional and now know our dogs.  They did not charge this last time... which I was fully prepared to pay since the pipes were blocked and when they left, they were not blocked any more.

And they have a human answer the phone on a Sunday morning at 8.

I've also been unfortunate enough to have to call DJ Murray to come snake out a drain for me. Both times have been at almost a moments notice, and they've been able to help me within a matter of hours. For the service they provide almost instantly is hard to match at a pretty reasonable price.

I hate to give this company one star, as in the past I good experiences with them.

I used this company for two big, $2,500 jobs at a couple rental homes I own in Royal Oak. They accommodated me being landlord, made it simple with tenants and all; I was impressed with the representative I dealt with, etc. Things changes drastically since those two jobs.

I had them come out to do some routine work on one of my properties. Upon arrival there was a discrepancy about price. The technician got the owner on the phone and the owner started yelling and screaming at me over the phone. Mind you, in the previous six months I had given him $5,000 of my business. Behavior such as this, to me, is nothing short of someone showing their true colors, their real character. Upon asking the technician to leave my house he let on to the fact that this behavior was common for the owner.

Price is almost irrelevant to me; customer service 100% drives my buying power. It saddens me to see what the second generation is doing to this company.

I was using Nelson Brothers for 5 years; their prices were creeping up so I thought I'd try another company. I now continue to use Nelson Brothers because they appreciate my being a landlord and calling upon them 24/7 to help my tenants.

They were very helpful!  Worked REALLY hard to get the job done!
Had a main sewer line repair in October.  But, then had another backup 2 months later.  Well-- it was a corroded pipe under my foundation.  Probably would have been found if we had telescoped the whole line after outside repair in fall...but now all is fixed.  They worked 12 straight hours to get it done!

We called them out for a drain clean out, but realized it was a bigger job than we first thought-we had a cracked pipe and needed a new drain clean out installed. The guys were professional and seemed much better at fixing the problem the right way instead of doing only a so-so job like the last company we used. The rates were  reasonable and they demonstrated good follow through in what they promised. We will definitely call them again when we need a good plumber .

I had a main line back up and called around to gather quotes from local plumbers. DJ Plumbing was the best price quoted.
When the plumber arrived he was nice and talkative,
In the end the bill was $200 to snake the drain. This did not include putting a camera down the pipe.
1 week later the problem was back.
It turns out the guy did not clear then drain all the way with the snake; this is a ploy used so they can keep coming back and charging more money.

Dont use DJ Plumbing; they use deceptive practices if you don't know anything about plumbing.

D J Murray did not return to help with the repeat backup. Since they had written a quote for an external clean-out install on the June receipt, the receptionist told me that in their business it means there's an underlying problem and that the receipt also had clearly written no warranty. I called another company since I felt I got shafted.

Totally clueless, totally unhelpful, totally over priced plumber.  It is a long, drawn out story that I am loathe to give blow-by-blow details to, but I hired them to do two things.  One thing went well, the other not so well, and when he finally walked out the door, I still am using duct tape as an ersatz repair measure under my kitchen sink.

Horrible!!! from the minute they answered their phone. Was suppose to show up and snake out a backed up sewer drain after hours.  Initially the plumber called and said no problem, should be out in about hour or so. Called me back about hour later and he sounded extremely intoxicated, argued with me that I would need more intense treatment or redo of the system and wouldn't be able to do it until the morning. I asked him how he could possibly know what is needed since he hadn't even shown up to see the problem or the drain??  I told him forget it! Did not want to deal with a drunk idiot.

I've had DJ Murray plumbing at my house in the past. Based on that good experience, I figured that I would have them back out for a current project.

The initial appointment went as planned. Dan (company president per his business card) arrived and we went over the details of the job. We set up a date for the work to be completed. So far so good...

On the day of our scheduled appointment, Dan was a no call / no show. I called the business office and was told that he had been stuck at another job. I understand the schedule conflicts of a tradesman and I did not have an issue with rescheduling. However, I would have at least appreciated a phone call informing me that he was unavailable. I planned the appointment around my work schedule, and for me to wait around for hours after my scheduled two hour appointment window was an inconvenience (not to mention a complete waste of a day).

I spoke with Dan a second time, this time giving me another two hour appointment window. Again, I was met with the same results as mentioned above.

Why I attempted a third appointment is beyond me. This time,  I was given an actual appointment time of 11am. As of 1230pm, Dan was a no call / no show. I called and canceled my appointment.

After approximately two weeks of rescheduling and still being at square one, I am now in search of a different plumber.

It's a shame that a company that once earned high ratings from me in the past has now earned the exact opposite review. I simply do not have the time to go back and forth for weeks and not accomplish anything. I do not appreciate having set appointments that are not met.

The techs are timely, friendly, and honest.  We have had them out twice for main sewer line cleaning and storm drain cleanouts.  I appreciate the tips and advice on what we could do to improve things related to this problem, without being pushy.  I will use them again in the future.

Well, it seems that this people don't take their business seriously. I had schedule an appointment for the plumber to come between 11:AM -1:00 PM. No hearing anything at 12:30 PM, I decided to call to find out when they will show up. The receptionist told me that they were running late. So I asked when they were expected to show us. She said to me that this is going to be now between 2:00 and 4:00 PM.  I said that I took the morning off to be there. They never called me to let us know that they were going to be that LATE and I had to call to find out. This is completely unacceptable.  They don't deserve to practice. They are the worst company that I have never seen. Now I am looking for more serious plumber company. I would remember not to recommend this people. This situation happened in West Bloomfield, MICHIGAN for the information

Unfortunately I've had to use DJ plumbing twice in the last two months for two separate issues. Both times Dan and Tony have been the service repair guys. They are efficient and knowledgeable at what they do, as well as being courteous and professional. I would highly recommend this company if in need of a plumber.

The owner is a real jerk.  Was told a quote and a time they would arrive between 2 and 4 o'clock..  Waited all day and when they arrived at 5pm the owner decided to drive the price up by double because I asked the service man to keep sewer clean out area as controlled as possible.  Owner said if you want the white glove treatment double the price.  Then I gave the go ahead.  They told me they wouldn't do it.  I believe the service man wanted to go home to eat dinner.  So they made me wait all day then doubled the price, then left me with a sewer backed up at 5 o'clock at night.  Don't trust what they tell you over the phone.  They are wishy washy ......wouldn't trust a good job out of these guys, let alone a clean one.  They are defiantly liars!

Came home late from work to find a sewer back up.   The plumber I used was closed.  Then I realized anything going down was coming back up, so didn't want to even use the toilets!  Sat down and went to look on-line for a plumber with a camera.  I found this company that not only said they had a camera, but had 24 hour service.   I called them, the phone was answered, and they said they would call as they were on their way after finishing the job they were working on.  They came as they said, 2 men, with huge equipment, and knew just where to go to clean it out, all the way to the street.  It took them about an hour, finished at 9:30 PM and even offered to help clean up the back up.  Very professional, knew what they were doing, didn't waste time and got the job done---and I didn't have to take a day off of work.  I can't say enough good about this company.

We had a sump pump that was spitting water. I think we must live on top of a creek as the sump pump goes all the time. Fortunately my neighbor happened by with his dog, he said if it's spitting water that's bad, mine did that, I ignored it and had 2 inches in my basement the next morning. He gave me the number for these guys. They totally rocked. I called at about 6:30 pm Friday, someone actually answered the phone, Dan and Tony were at my door by 7:30, and by 8:30 they were gone, the whole thing was fixed, they cleaned out the drum, re-attached and adjusted all the sump pump lines, and also had to move an electrical outlet to plug it in (there was no actual electrical work involved, the outlet is funky, I actually need an electrician next!). Very reasonable charge for all that extra work, and fast considering everything they did.
Anyway, they rock, very nice guys, highly recommended, I couldn't have asked for quicker service or a better outcome.

After calling 5 or 6 other places this was the only one that said they could be at my house the day of, and it only took an hour. After telling them my problem the knew the problem and gave me the price on the phone and it was accurate when they completed it. They snaked both drains($250) and were done in less than an hour.

We had D J Murray out right after Christmas when during the polar vortex our pipes froze.  They came out quickly and got the water back running and the leak stopped.  That was great.  Then early April when I went to turn the outside water back on, it leaked where they fixed it in early Jan.  So I called and asked if they could come back out since it seemed to be leaking right where they fixed it.  I was puzzled when at first they said they would have to charge me a full service call and at that time would not even consider it was there fault or treat me like a returning customer. Finally they sent over Jody to take a look at it.  Jody was great, looked it over and got the problem fixed properly.  So I was very disappointed they didn't seem to care that when they fixed it in Jan, could be any of their fault that it was leaking again.  However, Jody did one heck of a job so I can use the outside water faucets and wash my car this weekend.

Had a clogged kitchen sink and called them to correct the problem.  Plumbers were on time, courteous, and fixed the problem.  Great customer experience as far as the repair was concerned.  Score lowered because I was told that the mention this add discount was already applied to the original quote.  This should not happen with Professionals.  I did not; however, call around, and cannot comment on the competitiveness of the price, with or without the discount.  I recommend that you discuss this when you call.  If you bring it up later, and they already applied it, you are out of luck.

Champs of all plumbing service companies in Oakland County!  I went through a few services, either they charged me for telling me nothing, charged me and said it was fixed, or gave me a referral to a guy who complains and whines and doesn't want the job...Oh Boy!  Brief overview of my chaos...April showers, 4-5 standing water in an old 1920's basement without any drainage, crapped out hot water heater, & raw sewage in my basement sink.  Basically, NO DRAINAGE out of the house.  Their receptionist is a gem - she was very pleasant and knows exactly how to convey a nightmare message and delegate a work order.  She called me back within 1/2 hr to let me know the Guys were on their way.  Before 2 hours, I had a full report of what was going on, why, what had to be done, and a proposal to sort the problem.  Guess what?  Sewer collapsed at the main and no storm drainage from the house...Everyone want to hear that news right?!!  My stomach sank thinking I might have sell organs to pay for this (just kidding) but it was craptacular though.  Anyways, they had a full crew, backhoe and the big equipment truck the next morning prepared to fully dig and repair.  it was a crappy job, but they were full of silly humor (it keeps them going) and carried on with a very professional repair job - completely replaced the sewer line from the house to the city main line and along the dig path, they ran into my storm drain, that apparently wasn't draining. They cleaned it up and connected a cleanout in the middle of the yard, leaving an easy access to maintain both the sewer and the storm lines.  Pumped water out of the basement and replaced my hot water heater (also repaired a few minor jobs along with it).  Now of course we are all thinking OMG this is easily over $10k NOPE...it was under $8k total.  No small change, but less than I had expected for what had to be done.  At the end, 3 further days of rain and I've not had a drop of water in my basement and ALL drain pipes drain properly to the ewwey gooey far away yuck place, that it's supposed to go!  I am grateful this was taken care of and confident that it was handled professionally!  I will use this company for all of my future plumbing issues:)  Thanks Guys!  HIGHLY RECOMMENDED...

After watching what I'd like to call The March of the Plumbers' walk up and down my driveway over the past few months, I was almost at my wit's end.  Living in an old house and being a first-time home owner isn't always a good combination when it comes to understanding all the options, opinions and complexities of plumbing issues.
So what did I do?  Well, I decided to find out who had the best reputation in Royal Oak and call them. And that's what brought me to DJ Murray.
These guys (including the owner) were willing to assess the situation and in a very clear manner, tell me what needed to be done. As a woman, I know how on-guard we can often be when it comes to house and car repairs but not once did I feel that way with these guys; in fact, I enjoyed talking with these men and as someone noted in a previous comment, they can make you laugh through some not-so-fun repairs.
So.....all repairs are done, I'm happy and I would recommend them to anyone who is looking for a company that has been in the community for a while, is professional and employs all-around good guys.

This company gave me quote, made an appointment with me for 4 days later, never showed (after I waited for 3 hours), called later that night, didn't apologize, and rescheduled for the following day. THEN, the next day, they called to say that thier boss told them all of a sudden that they didn't service my area anymore and if I wanted the service I would have to pay $100 more than originally quoted. They didn't hold true to their quote, suddenly decided not to service, didn't fulfill their commitment to their customers, and all of a sudden wanted $100 more (almost doubled the price of the service)!!! They are SO unprofessional, rude, and could care less about customer service. Do NOT use this low class company. In this economy, people who value customer service should succeed, and selfish companies like this should be the ones out of business.

These are not the men for the job when it comes to drain cleanout do not call them. I would recommend anyone else for the job personally. I know they can install plumbing just fine but they will not stand behind their work for drain cleanouts. Their guys rush the job, do not do the promised camera inspection, because they say it is not necessary, and leave a mess. This is the last time I turn the other cheek when I am refused a service that I was promised because I am told their is no need for it, I just have roots. I had them out just over a month ago and now guess what, their is water in my basement. Unacceptable quality of work with no warranty, or integrity to stand behind their work. I will be fair by saying they offered to come back out for 89.00 to re-snake it, what a deal to come finish the job they started. I said no thanks I would call a company that will stand behind their work.  Now I have a different contrator coming out and I have to spend 175.00 to have it snaked again by someone who will stand behind their work. What a waste of time and money.
