We get sewer backups a couple times a year in our 3-family house. It doesn't help that our house sits in front of the manhole & a sewer hub,  where all the street debris likes to settle & torment us. And, our upstairs tenants include four women, with thick long hair that is always clogging our pipes ....

Anyway, it's gotten that all I need to do is sniff the air in our hallway -- and know that trouble is brewing from that telltale, horrible, sewer gas smell. And there's usually no time to wait. I can go from a sniff to an entire flood inside our 1st floor apt within the same day!

So, about a month ago, my nostrils sounded the alarm, and I called our regular sewer guy. Well, of course, he was out-of-town. Then I called another guy we had used and was OK, but he couldn't come out for at least another day. More calls to others here on Yelp, and it was like Backup Sewer Day in NYC, everyone was busy.

Pipe Monkeys was a new business, and I prefer to use contractors who have a whole big bunch of positive Yelp. But, no choice. So I called. And Kirk, the owner of Pipe Monkeys, said he'd be right out within two hours.

Turns out Kirk had been a manager for over a decade at the big name sewer company that everyone's heard of. He had a nice big, strong machine. He automatically snaked my sewer in both directions -- toward the street, and then toward the house -- something other guys don't mention doing, and when i ask, I've been charged extra. And he was infinitely patient. The snake got through, but Kirk was determined to snag the cause, so he kept at it until something big and furry and gross came back. He said it was so much hair, it looked like a wig. Or, it could have been gunky, shredded tree roots.

Also fabulous: It was after hours, but he didn't charge me an Emergency fee. Can't tell you how many times I've been slammed before -- even with my regular guy. And his rate was very reasonable -- less than most. And he's smart, grew up in Queens, and speaks perfect English. Plus Greek, for those of us in Astoria.

Well, a few days ago, I smelled that sewer gas smell in the hallway again!! I couldn't believe it! And when Kirk opened up that big grate inside the garage that leads to the sewer pipe, we saw all this debris and gunk ... The city had just been out to replace our water main pipes in the street, and Kirk's theory is that a whole bunch of the excavated street ended up in the nearby sewer main, clogging it.

Well, here is an honest, conscientious guy: After Kirk cleaned out my pipes again, he called the NYC 3-1-1 line, and got the city's sewer dept to come out and flush out the main sewer with this high-pressure jet stream. By doing this, I shouldn't have another problem for a long time. Which means I won't be needing Kirk's services. So, to help this new customer, Kirk voluntarily lost some future business from me.

That's what I call customer service and integrity.

Very surprised by all the high reviews. Michael does give good advice, but he is pricey and is booking too many jobs per day. Because of this, he showed up several hours late and seemed in a rush. We weren't totally satisfied with his work or his attitude.

I had inquired about a replacement if needed faucet , made the appointment . Artsem came and placed my new faucet. He did a very good and quick, was also very helpful with all other questions I had. I will call them again when I need help with anything else .

We had a stuck corroded bolt making it impossible to change out the toilet seat. Rob was able to get it done and was nothing but pleasant and professional!! Definitely recommend Astoria Plumbers for any of your plumbing needs!

Dov was fantastic. We kept having to reschedule our appt but he remained flexible and available at the drop of a hat. I'm glad I have someone I can count on for the next emergency.

Olsi came out to install 2 faucets for me in my new condo. He took away the old plumbing and made sure everything was working.

Was efficient and well priced. Marcel came with all the tools required, and completed the task promptly. The new faucet works great!

First time using Kirill and I give him 5 stars.  Got back to me right away with an estimate that was very fair, and was at my house within 24 hours to make the repairs, which he treated as a priority because it was the kitchen sink.   Installed the plumbing for a new sink and connected the dishwasher and plumbing looks great.   I'm having him do more work going forward given my experience.

Joshua is amazing! Kind, professional, and friendly, I would call him again in a heartbeat. I called him on Friday night looking to take out an old sink and replace it with a new one. We set up an appointment and he was able to come right away on Saturday. This is my first time getting something plumbing related fixed, and Joshua was so kind and knowledgeable, explaining to me what needed to be done and the best way to do it, even going as far as to recommend me a faucet and help me pick out the right one. There were some problems with my existing plumbing, but he fixed those as well with the installation. Even though it was not the work scheduled to be done, he took the extra hours to help me and prevent a bigger problem in the future, not leaving until very thing was perfect.

Was in a bind with my sewer main, John came out promptly diagnosed the situation and took the time to explain my options and didn't try to rob me like some of these other companies.

Excellent service.  Arrived early to my home to replace my kitchen faucet. He explained everything to me and was very kind.  After several months it is still working perfectly and no leaks.  The price he quoted was the price I paid.  I highly recommend him and will use him again if the need arises.

Used for 2 projects, one for leaky sink and another for leaky sink and clogged drain.   He is very respectable person who gets the job done right and fast.  I would call again for any future plumbing issue.

I messaged them and I got a call right away but I didn't pick up since I didn't recognize the number & I get a lot of spam calls. So I got a text message from them stating they were the plumber I messaged. I asked which one since I messaged so many plumbers in the same day. After they sent a link with a message saying Leave a review.. which honestly turned me off at first because they haven't done anything yet. Anyway I started messaging them (which is always a good option to take, that way you get things in writing & they can't go back on their word or quote, hence the first message). I asked a couple of questions, but they didn't even respond back to either of my questions in the text, very Unprofessional, so we definitely passed on this company!

We needed a bookcase assembled and two televisions mounted. Robert was communicative and did excellent work on our job. Definitely recommended.

We had used their services twice for some drainage problems in our sink and tub.  Spoke to Hassan twice on the phone and both times he came to save the day! He's very reliable and punctual and does a good job. We'll be using him again.

Was in a pinch and had a plumbing emergency late in the evening. My sewer backed up into the basement (EVERY drain in the house was instead flowing out of my basement toilet - not fun). John and his team got in touch right away, and had great communication from the start. Listened carefully to the issue, and was able to give me a quick diagnosis and ETA during our initial call. Upon arrival got the sewer unclogged and up and running in short order.
Gave a fair and balanced recommendation in terms of temporary and more permanent solutions, and charged a fair price for the work involved. John was extremely patient and openly shared his knowledge and expertise - despite my uncertainty on options to move forward, the team was courteous, understanding, and professional throughout. Overall great experience, I learned a lot, and would highly recommend!
